The Club House - Restaurant in Lai, Chad
The Club House in Lai
Description
Privilege
Snug restaurant with pleasant atmosphere, staff were attentive and helpful. Food was OK but not special, did expect a bit better for the price but certainly didnt leave hungry.
MoreWonderful location with beautiful grounds and restaurant overlooking the sea. Very dog friendly and the staff were really friendly.
MoreLove this place! A great location!Fresh food, lovely plates, afordable prices!
Fantastic food, and beach-side location. We dined here for my birthday a couple of years ago. Hope to be back next summer 🤩
MoreFirst time of going to the Club House and like The Hive Café the food was amazing!!!!
MoreBreakfast was well over priced although the breakfast was tasty it was very small and lacked items
MoreExcellent seafood and friendly staff in a lovely setting. Highly recommended, best food weve had for a while.
MoreDelicious food and drinks, friendly and helpful service - an ideal spot for a meal or just a cocktail.
MoreHit and miss food and drinks, and poor service. We waited almost 30 minutes to have our drinks order taken meanwhile the neighbouring table who were seated after us had their order taken promptly and before us. The mackerel was lovely as was the velvet sherbert cocktail, but my partner ordered grey mullet and the Bexington cocktail which were both quite disappointing. Overall wouldnt rush back.
MoreMy first visit here and I was really impressed! A group of 12 of us visited for dinner and were looked after by really top notch staff. Excellent varied menu, dominated as youd expect by wonderful seafood and a good wine menu. For the beer drinkers they had some Piddle bitter. Great night and Ill be back. And dont forget to take the chance to have a look around outside. This is a fabulous location!
MoreGreat location by the shore. Excellent food and staff.
Booked a table and wanted to drink a few glasses of wine (at leastasked if I could park up for the night to avoid DD, outright NO. So my happy fellow campers, avoid this place even if it is for a celebration, sister restaurant to the Hive, but a bit more inclined to cater for helicopter visitors, then camper visits. Not impressed!
MoreWent for dinner on a lovely summer evening and had a great meal with well matched wine. Thoroughly recommended , image is the sole I ate.
MoreNothing special. For 35£ you can eat much better breakfast in different places. Small portions. Just place to sit is with nice sea view
MoreUnusual hidden away restaurant next to beach with plenty parking Opportunity to sit in or outside Well looked after to ensure customer comfort Interesting menu Food was good
MoreNot a ‘foodie’ place. But sound delivery of seafood and non-seafood.Red mullet was single small specimen bulked with fairly stodgy potatoes and stodgier aioli/ yellow sauce on top.Wife’s sole was better but a tad undercooked. So a bit pricey given the above.Scallop starter first rate and 5/5.Closes v early so if eating from 7:30 (in Juneprepare to feel hurried and aforementioned clanking of ‘closing up shop’.
MoreLovely location, great decor, compliments to the interior designer (of the toilets especially). Good food with different local fish on the menu each day. Staff very friendly. I would recommend for a cocktail and meal with a sea view, especially during the summer evenings
MoreThe only reason I’d not give it 5* is because the service is insanely slow. Apart from that, I love this place, so chilled, great booze and fantastic food!
MoreFantastic food, eaten here a few times and it never disappoints. Attentive, friendly staff and amazing views.
MoreAte from their Friday night set menu - the Fish and Chips were absolutely delicious 😋 The cocktails gorgeous, the restaurant setting amazing and the staff so pleasant. A thoroughly enjoyable evening which I would recommend.
MoreThere is no pricelist showing the price of drinks. £6.54 for two ordinary (tepidcoffees is too much. £3.27 is an odd amount so I assume a tip was automatically added without telling me. When we arrived it took ages before any staff appeared to seat us. Upon leaving I saw that fish and chips are £19 and take away costs £14. Captive audience in the area!
MoreWe stumbled on the club house as we were out on a dog walk and new to the area . The food is absolutely delicious and the customer service outstanding . We went back the following day so I could try another dish on the menu . It’s certainly well worth a try
MoreOften quiet even in the summer, generally because most people just visit the beach however and already bring a packed lunch.
MoreTried the Sunday roast today and it was absolutely amazing 👏 perfectly cooked and delicious, served by friendly, polite and attentive staff. Perfect location. Would definitely recommend👌💯
MoreWe chose this restaurant as a birthday treat as I am a fish and shellfish conosour. I was very disappointed when the menu arrived. Looking on the website it shows pictures of crabs, lobsters and seafood platters. The only shellfish on the menu was scallops that we had, but nothing else, the meal was good, but the wine was not chilled, so wont be in a hurry to return.
MoreVisited in August, pre booked, happy with a table in the marque outside, there are heaters if its chilly, service was very good, fish & chips were great, plaice was lovely. The only negative was the Peach Melba, advertised as including Roasted Peach which was clearly straight out of a tin. 2 portions at £8.25 each, spoilt the experience. Id need some reassurance that this was a one-off before I could recommend.
MoreThe first time Ive been here since this place opened, the setting is lovely, weather was beautiful but paid £7.00 for 2 only just hot small coffees. Paying for location.
MoreDidnt know this place even existed and I have lived in the area for years.. avoid being in the marquee which also spoils the view.. but good food, good wine and good service. With free parking on the grass for patrons which can be muddy at the exit in the rain so try not to wheel spin the car...
MoreWe had a delicious meal at The Club House yesterday. The staff were lovely and attentive, the meal was well cooked and beautifully presented. Would recommend to everyone.
More22 degrees, clear blue sky, kids back at school, a hugely capable young chef and some of the best front of house staff outside London….what’s not to like? The crab Bon Bon, sole, mackerel and a simple rose superbly chilled.Thank you.
MoreWould highly recommend this restaurant. We were a party of 6 adults and two children and we all had superb meal at The Clubhouse with John and the team working very hard on a hot evening. So difficult to choose from some great dishes on the menu. We had reserved a table a few weeks before we visited and would suggest booking well in advance as it was very busy, and no surprise given the quality of food and service.
MoreWe had a lunch reservation for 1415 having booked some time ago... and arrived hungry and expecting good things. We weren’t disappointed.Decided to skip starters for pudding and cheese, and both went for prawn curry. Very decent, smelt fantastic too. A couple of drinks, light rose wine was certainly Morris’s. Hubby had a Hive Lager, deemed excellent! Plus an alcohol free lager, obvs less so. Then we shared a chocolate fondant, yummy indeed! Shared three cheeses. A coffee each.Waddled out feeling very content.Service was good enough to warrant a decent tip which was well received - hopefully our similarly satisfied fellow diners did the same...they were a well heeled bunch!
MoreVisited today for birthday lunch. Staff attentive and helpful. Ordered the rack of lamb. Definition of rack of land is " A rack of lamb is a cut perpendicularly to the spine and including 16 ribs or chops".We received 2 fatty lamb chops on our plate. The meal was served luke warm after being told the lamb was resting, and when questioned was told it is a cold dish, this is not stated on the menu. They did then proceed to warm our lunch at our request.Needless to say disappointed with our £95 lunch, will not be returning.
Morestone’s throw from the beach, we came at nighttime but the views in daylight must be stunning. fish soup was perfect winter evening fare, fresh as. two thumbs up.
MoreWent on a Sunday so had the roast but will definitely be going back soon to eat from the main menu. All three courses were delicious, staff were friendly and professional and its a really nice laid back venue.
MoreVery very hard to fault, incredible service from Stephen (manager and sommelier),he was friendly, kind and informative, we had the tasting menu and the combination of flavours and the wines that paired the dishes were second to none. It was an incredible experience with amazing views and all round a wonderful time. I personally would highly recommend and we will be coming back regularly
MoreFab food, really chilled and with a gorgeous view. Staff really friendly and relaxed. Look forward to going again soon. Next time will take the dog!
MoreAfter a very hot week, our Family of 7 booked the Beach House, a traditional chalet about 30 Metres from the main Club House. It was a dead calm and cooler afternoon and the surroundings were complimentary and relaxing with views onto the sea. We had a variety of dishes including Monkfish, Lobster, Hake and Sea Bass and everyone was delighted with Quality, portion size and flavour. My gazpacho starter was outstanding. Desserts are not my thing but others were very pleased. Throughout the afternoon, service was efficient and friendly with plenty of knowledgeable advice on offer. Great wine list and some interesting digestifs. Id go again tomorrow. This is one of the areas outstanding restaurants.
MoreElegant restaurant by the seafront - I had the crab with heritage tomato starter and the strawberry pavlova for dessert. Both dishes were excellent. At the higher end price-wise worth it for the beautiful garden location and lovely staff.
MoreFood here is excellent albeit a bit over priced, service was a little slow when we visited, the location is stunning!
MoreOn our visit in July .. A party of ten including a fish chef and one disabled in a wheel chair. We were just on a visit to see fishing conditions and decided to to have a look, we have been to the cafe here for many years and was surprised to see it had changed to fish restaurant. Our chef was interested to see the fish as it is his expertise. He is picky about his fish and gave a thumbs up after talking with one of the chefs preparing for the evening service, the fish counter was full of very freshly caught local fish and had a good selection, I love samphire and they had this and other seaside herbs for garnish. We decided to stay for tea, hot chocolate, coffee and iced coffee sitting outside in the beautiful seaside garden, mostly wheelchair friendly. While waiting for our drinks we perused the menu, it changes frequently due to the availability of the local foods, it is quite extensive and I have an idea what to order on my next visit. This is a smart fish restaurant in a great location especially when the weather is good and you can make use of the garden, for something more special the main building is very nicely furnished in a comfy style. All the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and accepted us in our holiday attire , it was after lunch and before dinner and we did sit outside. Dress up for the evening and have dinner in style you will have a wonderful experience and a delicious meal.
MoreGreat location. Friendly staff. Food served on the day I had my meal was not really up to the standard I would have expected, cold plates, undercooked fish/lamb dishes. Service was slow & billing was confusing. It is an expensive place to eat & watch out for dubious service charges & cakeage charges. The management ask for a £3 per head cakeage charge if you bring your own Birthday cake to share there, when celebrating a special occasion.Grounds & entrance are not particularly suitable for disabled or the elderly. The positive is plenty of free parking & a lovely location. However very expensive!
MoreSpot on. Overlooking a quiet beach in rural England. Lovely presentation deep food conscious without making you feel guilty of eating it. From the fried cockles to the pheasant appetizer the meal flowed and everyone at our table was loving it. Dont just show up. But you dont have to wear a tie to enjoy this great chefs controlled pallet. Pur Yum!
MoreTotally agree with other reviews.Staff is rude and not welcoming! We were not staying. We walked away and I am glad we did.Just a short walk on the road there is lovely The Manor House where staff is lovely.Spend your money elsewhere!
MoreGreat setting lovely food, not the cheapest place but worth it. Overlooking the beach at West Bexington. It is restaurant, car park then the beach so no problems with parking. Good menu and good selection of drinks. A place to return to. Nice seating in doors and outdoors.
MoreHad a lovely family dinner outside overlooking the sea. We didnt have a reservation, but they managed to squeeze us in as we were early. Very friendly staff and all the food and drink was amazing. Will definitely be coming back.
MoreSpent a lovely couple of hours here today. The food was beautiful and the sfaff were excellent. It was a very hot day and they brought a bowl of water for our 2 dogs. Cant fault anything except my silly husband knocking the outdoor heater above me on with his head as he leaned back on his chair in the 30°heat ! We will definitely be back before we leave
MoreVery cool location. Riding on reputation of good fresh food from the sea. Creative chef doing his thing in an open kitchen. Excellent wine list with fine English wine. Good service. A bit pricey. Enjoyed it a lot but could go up a notch still.
MoreGreat crunchy squid and fried oysters, lobster was so-so, good wine selection. Polite and friendly staff, very personal. Macaroni and crab was a highlight on the table. The smoked salmon and nibbles were a great start to a long evening.Nice sea side atmosphere, fitting colour scheme and furniture. Great view!
MoreNice place, food was great although not much variety in the menu. Drinks were good too. Service is excellent.
