The Churchill Pub and Restaurant - English restaurant in Cumberland, United States
Food was great and handicapped accessible for my wife. She enjoyed her birthday dinner there.
Good atmosphere, good food. Could be managed better. Usually we leave happy for the most part but always just a little disappointed. Hopefully they can get back to joe they were at first opening. Back then they were smokin and jumpin. Usually the service is better in the summer.
Great food, and great service. Try the vegetable curry with chicken, pub steak and cheese sandwich. My personal favorites. Bangers & Mash, Shepherds pie, Fish & Chips also good.
Brought out of town guests to the restaurant and we were all very impressed by the quality of the food , service and live entertainment.
Food was okay. Intetesting decor. The kitchen staff needs to stay IN the kitchen and stop hanging out in the back of the restaurant. Very unprofessional.
The food was pretty good although our order wasnt correct. The service was awful and they werent busy to justify that. Our order was brought out, no check back to see if things were ok or if we needed refills on drinks, etc. Even had to wait for the bill after scraping off condiments and making the best of an incorrect meal. 3 stars is generous since we wont be going back.
Historic eatery in Cumberland that is blessfully reopened and showing signs of life. We had a delightful evening. Dan Stevens provided entertainment and there was a drag show inasmuch as this was the kick off event of Pride Week. The only problem was caused by yours truly by signing an incorrect check. Highly recommend you give the place a try and I shall return!
Nice atmosphere. Good beer. Sometimes live music. Food was way too salty but I only ate there once.
We have been to Churchill many times over the last couple years, and its consistently a great experience. The fish and chips are a must-try. Weather-permitting, the outdoor area is the better place to sit, but the interior is fine too.
Very good old style English/Irish pub with good beer selection. Parking is on the side and there is a beer garden in the spring and summer. They have all of the classics, like fish and chips, bangers and mash potatoes, Shepard pie. Wish they had sticky toffee pudding too.Sunday brunch and Sunday dinner with roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
Good English pub fare and more, had fish n chips and Guinness steak pie, both ample servings and perfect in every way. Guinness Blond to accompany the meal. Music was complimentary (Eagles, Simon and Garfunkel, the Stonesand at a good level to both listen and talk. Pub atmosphere too, neat bar. We will go back many times. Highly recommend!!!!
One of our hometown favorites! Anything with the beer cheese is amazing, as is the poutine. Weve yet to be disappointed and weve eaten our way through most of the menu!
great food! fish and chips where on point, only thing is fries could have been tiny bit crisper , stone on tap!!
Great English food...friendly people and enjoyed a very cool 😎 band (Night Traveler). I will definitely be back...SOON!
The food at the Churchill is top notch with some of the best local acoustic musicians on weekends. Whether it is a cold beer, a delicious meal or just a place to relax, the Churchill Pub is one of the best in the area.
Nice atmosphere, four stars because menu was sort of limited. Food was good and hot.
Prices are higher than other local joints, but youre getting something unique and delicious when it comes to the menu
My father and I stopped by today for a late lunch. Our server was Vicky, and she was such a delight. Being as we were the only customers in the store, she was very attentative, and chatted with us about the business while we waited for our food.My father got the Bangers and mash, and Ill say, as one that doesnt like pork, the sausages were GREAT! I got the french onion soup and mini beef wellingtons. The french onion was amazing, and those wellingtons left me speechless at first bite.We will DEFFINITELY be visitng again! He wants to try new things, but im pretty sure i know what Im getting during my future visits!
Fantastic food, especially with the new head chef! Good music and atmosphere too. Fantastic!
Poor imitatiions of British fare served by rushed disorganized staff. Table placement can put you in high foot traffic lanes, occasional DJ plays at ear splitting volumes whilst harried servers scurry about in demonstrative bowler hats. Pass.
Took 30 minutes to get two cups of coffee... punch line, they only brought one! The curry was unacceptable, like it was not actually food. Ashleys food was mediocre at best, she thinks its over priced! This place could be better, if they actually tried!
Real good food. Great fish and chips. Looking forward to going again to sit in the beer garden out back. Looks like a great place to enjoy some music and friends.
Interior very dark and crammed. Chose to eat on patio. Beer was good. Reuben sandwich was worst I have ever had. Very, very little sauerkraut, corn beef was dry, and what ever dressing they used was nothing like I have eaten. No desire to return.
I thought I’d miss Warner’s German Restaurant forever. But now Im a regular here. Love the outdoor seating area - best place in the Cumberland MD area - hands down!!
Excellent food! Reasonably priced. A little lengthy on the wait for food to come out, but otherwise great restaurant. True to the English heritage foods.
Food looked beautiful but was really just overly greasy and freezer burnt. Out of a lot of stuff on menu.
The Churchill Pub has a great menu full of delicious food. The shepherds pie and the mini beef Wellingtons stand out as my favorites. The staff is friendly as well, and I love the attention to detail in the decor and everything inside. As a Doctor Who fan, I also love that they have a TARDIS in the back! If youre visiting the area, or if youre a local and you havent tried this place out, do yourself a favor and stop by.
Prices are a little high for the area, but very reasonable overall. Think Morgantown or Oakland rather than a Cumberland dive. Beer selection meets expectations. Live music wasnt overbearing, unlike puccinis. Customer service was excellent.
Great selection of food. We tried all of the Wings. All were tasty and large except the tequila lime - they had a flavor that we could not identify ....
This is my favorite spot in the county! I havent had a bad meal here yet, and they are that rare pub that serves Boddingtons correctly. Try the pork schnitzel. Delicious.
Disappointing. I was there early on Friday. We were seated quickly and our beverage order taken. I ordered the Fish and Chips. The food came in a reasonable amount of time. I found the portion to be quite large and piping hot. The batter on the Fish was way too much and greasy. The fish was hot, flakey and very well cooked but the amount of batter on the fish was overwhelming. The Chips were generic steak fries hot and salt less. We also ordered the Beer Chesse and Pretzels, also disappointing. The pretzels were hot but the Beer cheese tasted more like Velveeta. BEST thing I has was my soda. Wont be back.
I took my son to dinner on a Thursday night which is when they do trivia. I wish I had been able to stay for the trivia because it is a lot of fun! It was really busy because they had a promotion going on for drinks and tacos. We ordered the Poutine which is on the small plates menu so I thought it would be more like an appetizer. Boy was I wrong! It was huge! The fries were nice and crispy and the gravy was really good! I also ordered the bangers and mash and my son ordered the sliders. He was very happy with his food and took most of it home to eat the next day. I found the bangers and mash to be a bit bland unfortunately. The waitress was very diligent in checking on us despite the business and lack of support staff. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I think they need to have more staff on hand. The bartender should not have to be seating people and taking orders because there is only one waitress. We will probably be back!
Fantastic food, cozy and rustic atmosphere at a VERY fair price! The owners came and introduced themselves and were very gracious and kind!!! Wait staff was ON IT!!!! We WILL be back and will pass the word around!!!
Food was very good! The Monster Burger was bigger than I expected. But totally worth it.
Such a cool place! The food was great, lovely staff. I had the shepherds pie and it was amazing. Really neat atmosphere.
Great feel and good food! Food was reasonably priced and served piping hot. The fish was enormous and well cooked. My Shnitzel was tender and the breading was crispy. The burgers were juicy and had amazing carmelized onions. The ONLY complaint that I would have is that there wasnt any salt on anything we ate.
The path from the parking area to the front door is a dangerous obstacle course, with the dips and bumps in the pavement. I almost fell while helping my elderly mother walking. The live music was so loud that I could not hear myself talking. The drunks at the bar were unpleasantly unruly and loud. If you like loud bars, good choice, but if you want a pleasant dining experience, dont choose a pub. And the booth we sat in had a raised lip, which made it harder to squeeze into and out out of the seat. I will probably go back at least once, but I definitely wont make a habit of it.
Cozy and relaxing! Soups were tasty, we ordered French onion and also mushroom soup. Both were flavorful but not quite hot enough. The Scotch egg is amazing! I would come back just for thaf. Our sandwiches were good too. Service was a tad slow. Definitely bring a sweater because the place is cold! Beer selection is great!
Very nice place. Wasnt sure what time they open but due to my sister passing thru the let us come in early and order food. Service is excellent, the staffected is very nice and the food was paticulary good. Looking forward to my next visit.
Great food but the wait for the food was way toooooo long. Our group ordered at 6:20. Got food around 7:30. The wait staff apologized several times. The excuse was only 2 cooks... the restaurant was way too busy for only 2 cooks. Ill probably give the place another shot in the future. Hopefully there will be more cooks in the kitchen.
Very nice. Seated promptly, waitress and staff very courteous, appetitizers and food were quick and delicious. Will definitely be back.
Authentic as they come. Noticeable as soon as you step through the door. As an expat Brit, I can tell the difference. Excellent food. The Poutine chips are out of this world with the fish & chips a close second. Service was prompt, knowledgeable and courteous without being intrusive. Great selection of beers on tap and served in decent size glasses. Good selection of quality liquor if youre looking for something a little stronger. Food and drink prices are very reasonable. Theres a heated patio with its own bar at the back of the pub. Didnt get to try the Sunday roast but one regular said he never misses it. Many thanks to Pam, Dawn-Marie, Jeff & the rest of the team who made our visits so enjoyable. BTW The pub has a huge outdoor sign thats hard to miss and parkings easy.
Very disappointed. Our party of four was seated after a short wait but were seated directly in front of the entrance in the middle of the floor. We asked if we could be seated elsewhere and were given a booth in the rear section. We ordered our drinks and two appetizers. We got our drinks but continued to wait for the appetizers. About 30 minutes later, the waitress returned to finally take our order. I had to ask about the appetizers to which I was told they would be “right out”. After a few minutes, the appetizers did arrive. But our food took a ridiculously long time before it arrived. In fact, the table next to us received their food while we were ordering and had completely finished eating, paid their bill, and were preparing to leave when we finally got our food. There was nothing spectacular about the food unless you count the fact my wife cut into her fish of the supposed speciality fish and chips to have an orange liquid come oozing out. At first we thought it might be cheese, which would have been very odd, but instead it was uncooked batter that was somehow trapped inside the fish. My wife returned the fish and chips and said she didn’t want anything, just remove that from the bill. It almost seemed like they were doing us a favor by doing this. The manager did stop by the table before we left to ask how everything was. We explained the situation and she offered to buy us a round ... the NEXT time we come in! Some excuses of being short-staffed were thrown out but we never felt there was a sincere apology or true attempt to make amends. Needless to say, we won’t be going back to get our free drink and we don’t recommend this place to anyone.
Very quaint, friendly service, great location. Fabulous patio with occasional live music and a great jukebox. English Pub theme and food.
I was so excited that this place had opened especially since they advertise that they have be sting cake. I have been looking for Fred Warners bee sting cake forever and just cant find it. I went here to the front and there was no one there. A gentleman in front of me finally left after standing there for 10 or so minutes and there was still no one to help us. I finally just helped myself on up to the bar and stood there until a waitress finally came over and helped me. I ordered my 2 pieces of chocolate beesting cake to go. As I was waiting I had to chase away the fruit flies from my face and noticed that they were hanging out around the drainage area of the bar. Pretty gross, but nonetheless I just came here to get my bee sting cake and leave. I finally got my order after what seemed to be an eternity just to cut a couple of pieces of cake. This establishment should not even be allowed to advertise that they have beesting cake. There is no comparison whatsoever to the original Fred Warners beesting cake. I would not be the least bit surprised if this was made with a boxed cake and cool whip as a matter fact Im pretty sure it probably was. There isnt much flavor to it at all and definitely no rum or real cream. I am very disappointed and and still in search of a wonderful beesting cake as Fred Warners served it.
Delicious authentic British fare. Amazing atmosphere. Cozy outdoor seating available. Best Fish n Chips I have ever had.
Tried the bacon wrapped bangers and beer cheese, bangers were good, but Ive had better beer cheese. Waitress was attentive and nice but the bartender was a jerk, griped because the door did not shut behind us but the door is always open when I go by at other times and she had an attitude because I asked to have the baseball game put on - she was very snotty. Not sure I go back
Very nice food was great service was great we only waited about 20 minutes for food .Really like the fish-and-chips nice portion of fish Really good beer batter !!!
I recently went here with my wife while visiting the area and was very disappointed. I usually dont complain, but the service was terrible, the food was pretty much cold and Im fairly certain the manager (a blonde womanwas drunk. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone. Im only giving one star because I am forced to.
I never got to eat at this place when Warners was in its hay day so I was really anxious to try it out. We had reservations for 9 people at 7 on the patio and while the table was cramped we managed and it never became an issue. The outdoor area was awesome. They have a great bar back there although when it gets dark they need more lights. Seriously. Get some more lights. Our bartender Val was very busy but our drinks were right and the beer was cold. They have several beers on tap. I had the Old German and Guinness. Our waitress Tina was great too. We kept her busy but she did well. Our table had 4 split checks and I expected them to be all jumbled up. She nailed 3 of them and quickly corrected the one mistake on the fourth. I got the Churchill Burger and my wife got the Steak and Guinness Pie. I have to say its one of the better burgers Ive had in a long time. The parking isnt great, but I think that walks hand in hand with their other problem. The wait. We were seated promptly at 7 and didnt get up to leave till almost 10. Thats an entire evening to a lot of people and if we had plans for anything else, wed have been out of luck. I understand its new, and they are getting better. Price is about what youd expect. 6 and 4 dollar pints and my burger and fries was almost 12. Overall I liked it. Atmosphere, staff, and food were all great. Prices were average. Wait was too long but I like taking it slow when Im having a good time so no biggie. If youve got an evening to kill and have good company you cant go wrong.
