A familiar chip shop menu with some soups and salads in a modern room or on the heated roof terrace.
I love this place. Took my Danish relatives for lunch one day. They were delighted with what they called Scottish Fayre in comfortable and lovely surroundings and they would never have found it themselves! The most important thing was they thoroughly enjoyed it.
We were hungry and unsure of where to go..spotted the blue fish from a distance..please dont let the dark alley entrance put you off. We decided to be brave and were rewarded with a lovely interior, very friendly staff and great, great fish and chips. Why not enjoy a great british staple in chic surroundings?why not indeed. Great value too. We often opt for fish and chips when away etc. Its well worth the climb up the stairs. You wont regret it.
We went here yesterday and had the worst time. We were told a private room would be provided but ended up in a gazebo with so many heaters and other customers. Ended up with a £400+ bill even though 4 kids and 10 adults almost £40 per personl but was totally overpriced and when asked if we could get kids food with the starters was told the chef refused. Arrived at 17:50 did not get a drink for almost 1 hour. By the time we were finished it was 21:20 Then my son became sick going home. Will never go here again. Any other chippy beats this place on quality and price. Good luck if you go here
Best fish and chips in Scotland. Perfect fried, and good oil to fried it. Potatoes are cut handmade. And the 2 superspecial offer is great. Your stomach will new that you have eaten good food.
Bit difficult to access the stairs although there is a hidden lift available. Very nice inside. I love the brickwork and old stonework. Prices good, choice slightly limited, staff friendly. No outlook but that doesnt matter. Bit different as food served on a 8 inch square box to simulate newspaper. A place just off main throughfare in Glasgow I enjoy returning to.
I have been there before and enjoyed it but this time wasnt that great. Mostly because the chips were not chippy chips they were over cooked fries. I asked the waitress about this and she said that they cannot and have never served chippy chips, which s not true. I dont know about anyone else but if I order a fish supper I definitely want real chippy chips with it 😒
Great tasting, fresh fish. 2 can dine for £18 was great deal. Comes with choice of either haddock or cod with chips for each and a glass of house wine.
Staff were nice but we waited 10 minutes for a seat despite arriving at the time we had reserved. Location seems understaffed.Asked what type of bread we wanted as it comes with the supper however they proceeded to not bring any bread 😂Wine was ok, service was as good as it could be when you have so few staff (they did their best I thinkand the fish was delicious. Would consider visiting again but probably not on my lunch hour this time.
Could not fault the quality of food and drink, service, and attentive staff. However paid £)27.50 for a haddock supper and pot of lukewarm coffee for two. Same daytime special £18. Felt it was a bit of a con. And Dont see a return visit soon. Honest appraisal.
Fish was nice, as were the chips. Had a wowcher deal, that was recommended by a friend & regular. Opted for wine as we are both wine drinkers & were heading out to a gig. We had the white wine, neither of us could drink it. A couple at next table passed us their rose wine, as they couldnt finish it. That was equally as bad as the white we ordered. Lovely little place, clean & welcoming. But no wowcher deals for us if we come again next time were in Glasgow.
I dont get why this place has such good reviews. This has to be the worst fish and chips Ive had. Order was incorrect. Mediocre customer service, mediocre food. I kept biting into grease pockets and the fries were barely cooked. You can get better for the same price.
Lovely fish and chips in a very unusual restaurant. Great value, good selection of fish, and all cooked to order. I had lemon sole, husband had haddock.
Service was good and my meal was excellent. Ate here back in 2017 during my first visit to Glasgow, and this was was my first stop for fish and chips on this trip. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good meal. Atmosphere in the restaurant is nice.
Lovely food and friendly staff. Exterior is a bit dingy (as others have mentioned in other reviews), but doesnt take away from the atmosphere inside. Take advantage when theres an offer on Groupon etc, we were £12 for fish and chips for 2 people.
Very pleasant ambience within the restaurant, although it looked alittle shabby from the outside.Food: A variety of fish to choose from for their Fish & chips. Tasted great. Had the cod.Service: Was alright. Ordered a plate of wings though, but never came.
Nice Location in a not inviting side road. This is charming. The fish was good and the portion enough. But three stars only because the service was not very attentively and the chips where nearly raw.
Very good fish and chips limited options for vegetarians. Its in an alley down off Buchanan Street which is a pedestrian only street with lots of Shops and restaurants. They had decent beer on tap and other bottles too. They run specials frequently. You can choose four or different types of fish for the fish and chips. Chips (frieswere some of the best Ive ever had.
The food actually gets 5 stars as Ive been before and the standards for their food remain high. The letdown;......Very poor service from all three servers who attended to our table of 3 adults. Robotic, no warmth/smile, going through the motions. They advertise 2 fish suppers with 2 glasses of wine for £18. This wasnt even mentioned to us during the ordering process. When our bill arrived we asked if they could apply the 2 fish supper deal which wouldve knocked £4 off our bill. The response of all three servers; You didnt order the wine (we ordered soda and limes. Much cheaper for a restauranteur I should think). I requested a second time that they alter the bill accordingly and was met with glum looks. We deducted £4 from their tip (leaving them £1 to shareand left.
The location of the restaurant was in the middle of the alley in Buchanan Street in the city center. We ordered fish soup with bread and butter as well as fish and chips. They have various types of fish to be cooked as fish and chips. The fish and chips were great but the portion was a bit too big for us. The restaurant service was excellent
It was really pleasant! Only thing I found was that the batter mix was a bit greasy but could have been a bad batch- fish was delicious though! Attentive waitress and lovely atmosphere 😊
Visited on a Saturday night got served quickly ordered haggis bites as a starter which were delicious and steak pie and chips which were yummy my only gripe was ordered more drinks during our meal was told by waitress they wouldnt be long but they never showed up a bit disappointed that we had to eat our meal and had nothing to drink no apology was given!!!
The food at its best was just average. The the chips could have been cooked for longer as it felt like biting into a slightly cooked raw potato. The fish was half decent (I describe it this way as only half the batter was actually cooked and the other half was still raw). With defence to the food I have got to say the haggis bites were delicious and I would recommend them if you do actually decide to come here.As for the service, well it was almost non existent. When we have finally finished our sub par meal, we had to sit infront of the food which we didnt even finish for over 20 minutes before we finally got the attention of a waiter (to which all of the staff were far more interested in talking to each other than doing their jobso we could finally pay just so we could leave.Pretty disappointed as on more than one website claimed this is one of the top 10 places to get fish and chips and it didnt even come close to others I have had before.
Very reasonable priced courses of a fish supper and bottle of wine for two on a deal, at a little over 20 quid! The choice of fish is great, the batter was sooo light and crispy, and love the old fashioned presentation in a box. My mushy peas didnt arrive with the dinner and I think had been heated with a blow torch..... Ouch! All in all a good experience and worth the hike upstairs!
One of the best fish & chips in Glasgow. Highly recommended! 😊😊😊
This place does fish and chips the way they were meant to be done: lightly battered and crisp, served with freshly made fries and mushy peas. The portion was a good size. Delicious!
The chippy isnt the easiest place to locate and the approach to it is definitely not attractive, industrial decay is how Id describe it. Once inside the stairs up to it arent that attractive either however its the food youre here for and I have to say that the food is excellent and Im sure thats why it was pretty busy at 12:30 on a Tuesday. The service is good and the staff friendly and the prices reasonable for the city centre you can even have champagne with your fish tea. I noticed on the way out there is a lift available so the restaurant is available to disabled and wheelchair users. Will I go back yes but when Im hungry enough to eat the portions.
Great service with plenty of different fish and chip options... I recommend the Haddock and the Haggis Bites as a starter!
Meh. They do have other things on the menu, but the main thing is various kinds of fish and chips. Personally, Ive had better fish and chips from a roadside stand served faster and for much less. Interior of the place is dated; most of the seat upolstery is wearing through. Additionally, all of the music sounded like you were listening through a tin can.
Potential to be great but service was slow, we were missing sides from our order and our table was told to be quiet because we were apparently laughing too loud or too much. By 8.30pm the place was empty. Unsurprising if the atmosphere is being tempered by staff. Youd be better off getting a chippy from a take away and sitting on a bench on Buchanan Street where the ambience would be more convivial.
Big portions. Fish was pretty bland tho. I got haddock, my wife got cod. Both were tasteless. Pretty disappointed to be honest
When I was here with my husband a couple of months ago I couldnt fault it, food and service were excellent and I used a groupon voucher.I recommended on Social Media as well.I decided to make another trip today (31st Julywith my family and unfortunately we were questioned why, although a groupon booking we hadnt phoned to confirm? Our food was at best tepid when we eventually recieved it and we all experienced totally uncooked chipsin among cooked ones on our plates. No sign of bread and butter either. When we ordered tea at the start of the meal, it arrived up when we were finished and perched on a tray on the corner of the table. So disappointed after our last fantastic experience and embarassed taking my family who I told would love it.Really disappointed 😔
Excellent fish suppers, but the lemon sole is to die for. Lovely restaurant and reasonably priced. PS It"s not really a chippy in the old fashioned sense, so dont be put off by the name.
Slightly pretentious, modern, all exposed brick and cable trays take on the fish and chip restaurant. But forget all that, the grub is great and they were willing to find a table for one unbooked on a Friday evening. Thumbs up.
Nice venue in the heart of Glasgow. Very high standard battered fish. Fried chips very poor, what a shame compared to one of the best fish tried. Excellent service for a saturday night and super quick. Fair price. Overall highly recommended.
Got an itison voucher for birthday. Read some reviews which were not very good however we went along and when approaching entrance down the lane it wasnt very nice and if we didnt have a voucher we wouldnt have went in but I am glad we did as when inside the place was quite well presented and the waitress was nice and pleasant and took our order. Now to the food, I had the haddock and chips and my partner had the lemon sole and chips. Both of us agreed it was the nicest fish we have had in a long time and the chips were lovely, really freshly made real chips and not greasy. A nice experience, good food and friendly staff. Well worth a visit.
The best fish and chips restaurant I went when I stayed in Glasgow. The fish is very fresh, which makes it different than other restaurants
The entrance and the location are very misleading. It looks like you are about to go into a good forsaken alley. But once you go up the stairs the place receives you with elegance and charisma. The food was terrific, and to say that of a haddock supper an mozzarella sticks its quite something. 100% recommended!
Nice price and delicious! For 2 ppl who wanna chat and have a simple drink and eat is so perfect here!
First time eating here. Saturday lunch time and plenty of seats available probably beast it was day 4 of the Beast from the East snow storm. Ordered Thai green curry with king prawns and cod and chips with bread and butter and a pot of tea and a strawberry cosmopolitan. Waitress came back immediately to say she forgot there wasnt any curry today. Choose the spicy chicken filets with chips salad and coleslaw instead. Only a 10 minute wait for the made to order food which arrived piping hot and was delicious. Definitely worth a visit. Total bill £27.00
Visited tonight a party of 6 we were put beside the door which was frozen with staff and patrons going in and out all of our visit, meal was not the normal portion fish must of been filleted with a razor blade and both ends of fish presented were just batter, asked for a sweet menu and after ten minutes of waiting decided to just ask for the bill, I did complain about the fish the coldness and the non attention for our sweet but was just fobbed of with a sorry. Will not be back to this establishment as very disappointed in food, comfort and service.
For first time customers the entrance is awful. Once up the stairs and inside it is fine. The service was OK, however the staff member cleaning the table next to us put the clean cutlery on the chair! The food was good, tea and coffee could have been warmer but the fish and chips were delicious. Overall it was OK.
Fish and chips! Not expensive and very tasty. Also some nice side dishes on the menu. It can be hard to find as it is located somewhere on the third floor of a building at the end of an alley, but definitively worth the effort.
Great quality fish, beautifully cooked in crisp batter or breadcrumbs (we had the breadcrumbs). Chips were to die for, just as crispy and no grease. If only all were this good, even better than Catch.Great staff and friendly atmosphere.
Tasty fish and chips with bread and butter and a hot drink at a fair price. Alcohol is also available. The portion sizes are very good but service was a bit hit and miss. Drinks order not served for 15 minutes.
Right at the center of Glasgow there is this amazing Fish n Chips place.Food was really well cooked, fresh and super tasty. Staff are so friendly and always patiently explained about the menu.Highly recommended!
Fish and chips freshly made excellent with gluten free option for Coeliacs perfect. Great cup of tea, service friendly and top class. This is a regular for us at reasonable prices for the city centre.
Its a mix good+bad experience. Used voucher, although was stated to book 24hr in advance, a nice hostess let us have a table without too much waiting. Then...another hostess put on a very unhappy face that everyone can tell we are not welcoming there...really ruined the lunch we had...I guess no matter how good the food is the service does make a huge difference...
Read many reviews before finding arriving at the restaurant... I didnt make a reservation beforehand, maybe I should have as I had to wait quite a long time before getting a small table in the back. The hostess wasnt the most polite and wasnt made to feel particularly welcome..but the place was half empty and some lad was handing out flyers outside! OK, I had the calamari starter and they were like hard like bricks, even hard to cut in half, It looks like they came from a packet and not fresh. Very disappointed. OK, I saw other fish on my neighbours table and it looked nice, I was in a forgiving mood. My cod supper finally came and what I saw so not impressed! It was swimming in grease...like the oil temperature wasnt high enough...there was so much oil that the chips under the fish were soggy! The batter wasnt even crisp...so disappointing, but on the upside, the cod wasnt particularly big! The tarter sauce has not do fresh..bland and must have been sitting out for a while as there was a skin on top.. Like it was left near the pass too long. To injury to insult, Im eating my dinner and table beside me has vacated and the waiter decided to give the table a good clean...spraying detergent on top of me... I felt it on my hand and guessed that it must have also sprayed on to my food....he didnt even apologise in spite of my shriek of disapproval. So all in all, it was a complete disaster...the place didnt looked clean either, old bird crap on the window which should have been cleaned! On the upside, the young waitress was very pleasant. That is why I have given it a 1 star.
Approach to this place is tatty , however I have the view that once in you can always turn around and go. Do not turn back this place is great. Good fish good chips and great staff. I have coeliacs disease and they bent over backwards to make sure I was catered for . Full marks for hood natured helpful waitress and a good place of grilled haddock and chips. Husband said best fish and chips outside Yorkshire and thats a big compliment.
Found - finally a fresh fried fish joint serving great quality, made to order PROPER fish and chips. If you ever are headed north this place is a must. They could teach the chippies of London a thing or 2 about how to get the perfect fish & chips.Options of cod, haddock, Pollock and catch of the day starting at a reasonable £8.95 which includes chips, tartar and a glass of wine, beer or soft drink. Service was friendly and prompt and they catered for our large group seamlessly - all food arrived at the same time and was some of the best ive had (and thats a fair few!No room for dessert so I will just have to visit again to sample something sweet on our next trip!
