Beautiful building looking like an old cathedral, funny presentation.Nice place to visit, suits for kids and families. Also there’s a big cheese market on streets nearby.+ Museumkaart works with it !
MoreRacist Dutch
Love walking down this scenic town. If you love cheese, then all the more reason to visit.
MoreIts an okay museum, the building is better than its contents.
Nice museum all about cheese. I learn a lot about cows and cheese. I got free cheese too, lekker!
MoreNice museum about the cheese history in the Netherlands. Nothing really outstanding l, the museum is quite small but the interactive expositions are nice and the museum is a lot kid friendly. The staff is very friendly and welcoming.
MoreIts a small informative museum in an extremely old building dating back to 1500s. You get free cheese on entrance and the volunteers are very friendly and helpful.
MoreFun place with nice exhibits
Excellent for kids and adults alike! Fascinating.
Super experience!
Perfect
The cheese museum in itself is quite small and have limited exhibits. The entire thing can be done in 30min-60min. The staff were courteous.

MoreReally interesting museum. Good shop and very friendly, helpful staff. Thanks for the free samples of cheese!!
MoreVery nice place to visit, and buy perfect cheese😍😍
Cute museum. Dont expect to spend too much time here. It is quite small. Building itself is gorgeous: fusion of old and new. €5 to visit.(is more than enough too)
MoreGood place for kids and young people to learn more about the way of cheese production
MoreMe and my boyfriend decided to pass the day at Alkmaar little city.We walked around for a while till we find the cheese museum. We just loved it! And we live in the Netherlands, so we know exactly whats a tourist trap.At the entrance after you purcahse your tickets they offer a small peace pf young gouda cheese for each of us.The museum is very interactive and tells a lot about the history of the cheese industry in NL. We were surprised once weve been in cheese "museums" in Amsterdam that were such a sad experience. You will learn about the cheese making, kind of cheese, cheese buisness , see a lot of old utensils and even old TV publicities. We really enjoy and we totally recommend.
MoreRecommend to visit this museum since it is really enjoyable to gather information about its history, tools and to see the development. Nice to watch a short documentary there as well!
MoreNice museum at a nice location (next to the cheese market).
The cheese market and the shop are excellent. The museum itself is good if youre interested in old cheese making methods but it took us 20 minutes to see everything and get bored...
MoreIm not usually one for the clear tourist stuff, usually it makes me start to feel like Im turning plastic, but this is the exception to the rule whether youre a traveler or a tourist (God help you if youre the latter). Theyre keeping their culture alive with this weekly attraction that will leave you questioning the exact method of how this mass, ancient, cheese accounting system / demonstration works. Its pretty rad though. All the hustle and bustle of guys running in synch with however many kilos of cheese on a platform. The scales and balancing process. The cheese guild master walking about inspecting the cheese and offering free tastes to the crowd. Its got its own vibe. Its its own thing for a reason. If youre looking for an escape from the bustling and vibrant capital of Amsterdam, and want a slightly more relaxed Dutch experience for a day, take the train from Amsterdam Centraal to Alkmaar and explore this hidden gem of the north.
MoreThe history of the two dutch cheeses Gouda and Edamer on historic settings. Very friendly staff.
MoreA good guide to cheese making but disappointing they dont let you try some of the local cheese.
MoreMuseum is 6/10, but city is beautiful
Perfect place to stop for a short history of Dutch cheese. Even got a free sample and had the time to watch the video. Excellent gift shop as well.Tip: Go on Friday to see the Cheese races. We didnt know about the event and showed up on a Saturday. But there was a fantastic farmer market downtown instead.
MoreEverything about Dutch cheese
It really suprised me. I dont think before it was so good and interesting.
Smaller museum than we expected but still very well our moneys worth. It has all kinds of interactive ways to learn more about cheese. Id say the perfect age for kids to take here would be about 8-12y/o.
MoreIt was nice. Visited Alkmaar for the day and this was a stop in the day. Very cheap entrance fee. Shares rich history of cheese making in the Netherlands. Also there are many bars/Cafes/restaurants in close by so you can get some cheese and a beer.
MoreIts a nice museum with a short history of cheesemaking in the Netherlands. It has some interactive displays for kids. Its okay, but I wouldnt go out of my way to visit it
MoreI loved Alkmaar. If you want the full experience though, youve gotta go to the Cheese Meusum. Its inexpensive at only €5 and the exhibit is high quality. Its self guided though they will turn on a movie for you in either Dutch or English to show you the process. Definitely worth your time while in Alkmaar.
MoreTraditional fridays cheese market is nice performance. But it is long and it is better to know in advance what these people on the square do. Prepare for huge number of visitors.
MoreNice museum, lots of information about how cheese used to be made.
Nice museum, interesting for me and for my daughter
So much fun for tourists. Especially when there is a cheese market show going on. Quintessentially Dutch, and Alkmaar
