The Cheeky Squire - Gastropub in Mount Eliza, Australia
There was 4 of us having lunch (on a sunday)It was disappointing it took 1 hour for our meals to comeAnd when the came 2 came together then after they ate mine came, then I was almost finished and my chips (appetisercame along with my friends meal.My pesto gnocchi was nice but nothing to write home about.
We waited over an hour for one of our meals - I had to follow up with the staff 3 times. I sympathise with staff shortages however, people arrived half an hour after us and ordered and got there meals before ours arrived. The Manager was rude and offered no apology. Once the meal (pizzafinally came, we had to leave and they would not provide us with a takeaway container.
Food was good, service was OK but definetly not warm and friendly. They do not provide a doggy bag option so be sure to eat your entire meal at the table... not screaming to go back but would if friends wanted to meet there...
We had a great night. Food is reasonably priced for the quantity and quality. Craft beer was tasty, tasting paddle could be your life saver if you dont know which beer to pick. Great environment and live music was the touch.
Its a good pub.The beer list is varied which you would expect.Ordering food is easy enough with the app but be aware that if you want you appetizer to come out first you should order it first. Wait 5-10 minutes then order your mains or you will get them all at once. The beef burgers are always excellent. The southwest chicken burger sadly has been dry both times we have ordered it.Mac and cheese croquettes are 🔥.Sadly there isnt really much of a seafood option. Prawn tacos were unavailable, no oysters on offer. Strange for it being a beach side location
Food was good and came out in good time considering how busy it was. The experience was made much better by the excellent service we received from Chris who attended our table.
Staff at front of house very polite and welcoming on arrival. The Gnocci, Garlic Bread and Beef Ragu was delicious and came out in a timely manner, thanks chef and kitchen staff. All staff were kind, friendly and accommodating. The venue looks great!
Omg!! I had a burger from here...it was sour! 🤢 I couldnt even finish it, after 1 bite my mouth was filled will a pickle-mayo combo tasting substance. Even maccas burgers are better! Still, I liked the outdoor and indoor decor, very fancy and amazing Staff!
I give this place a 5 star as the customer service was impeccable! We went as a larger group (10), all ordered from the table, food was reasonably quick and generous serves, very tasty. We ordered drinks from the app as we needed, served quickly and were left to just enjoy our time there with friends with no one pushing us to get out the door. The atmosphere was relaxed, comfy and low key, with live music making for the perfect Sunday afternoon lunch. Thank you to the staff and venue for your efforts!
Nice venue. The ordering system seemed to work much better this time around. (Non alcoholic drinks seem to take a while though. However, can’t fault the rib eye steak. Absolutely magnificent!!
I recently had a night at the Cheeky Squire for a friends birthday. They completely messed up my order which I went to the bar and actually ordered specifically. Once it was pointed out to them they said they would go back to the chef but they never actually brought me out a new meal so I actually paid and didnt eat. We noticed the staff didnt seem happy to be working there. The man at the door couldnt even stand up from leaning on his lectern to even greet quests properly. What a horrible experience. I was very underwhelmed.
A must visit place in Frankston. Loved the beers and food.
Nice beer selection. Some unique squires on tap! The food was pretty average though, chips were deep fried to within an inch of their life, burger was also pretty grim, sweet potato fries, sweet potato chunks on burger. Heres some sweet potato with your sweet potato! Friendly staff, good atmosphere for footy games. Id go back but not to eat.
Disappointing that not one Sav Blanc was available on the menu. Online booking was not working, no menus available on the tables and "waiter/waitressing" staff did all they could to avoid contact with patrons. My meal (gnochhicame out well after my partners meal (steakand only because I had to ask someone of its whereabouts. Driven past many times, this was the first time I ever entered, will be safe to say that in the future I will continue to drive past. Two stars are only because the food itself tasted fine.
Not bad for a bistro experience, food and service can be a hit and miss , but overall a nice enjoyable night out. Being part of the AHL group certainly makes up for the misses 😏😏😏
Poor service. Food comes out after an hour and half after ordering it. Try and complain but get fobbed off by staff. Try and ask for a take away container and be told there is non after everyone at the tables eaten their food and ready to go. If I could I’d give them no stars. Was willing to consider giving them a second to after the first experience (which was poor alsobut after tonight will not be returning.
Terrible service average food for the 1.5hr wait and childrens food comes out last, after several polite requests for an update on the food ordered 45mins earlier the manager proceeded to come out with a terrible attitude and tell us that because we ordered our starters and mains together we fet what we get, no service from the bar and after waiting from 7pm till almost 9pm for our food we needed to leave (being a tuesday nightand asked for takeaway as they would not refund to witch this request was also rejected. Overall one if the worst experiences i have had dinning in frankston
A good location and nice ambience. The food is alright for the price but not really that great.Staff really doesnt check on you or anything unless you walk up to bar and ask for help if you need anything. But good experience overall.
Tap drinks were good, but the food was a miss. My partner and I had been here before, which is what led us back but the food today was average at best. Im not a chef, but the chips and battered fish definitely signalled maybe an oil change was due. Very heavy, oily batter on the fish which was served warm and laid directly on top of the worlds oiliest garden salad Id ever experienced. My partner who will eat just about anything, said his parma was bland and salad soaked in olive oil with chewy cucumber. Wont be going back!
The Cheeky Squire is starting to look a bit run down. The table we set down to was filthy and we cleaned it ourselves. Having said that, the staff was very friendly. The food was the average pub food, definitely not outstanding. What was outstanding was the view to the beach and watching the sunset from our table.
Overpriced drinks, meh food and uninterested servers. Garlic pizza and aranchini balls dry. Gnocchi overcooked and stodgy. Have pretences to having craft beers, but they don’t taste any better than Carlton draught. AFTER we ordered and paid for 8 drinks and 5 meals, a very shrill woman came out to screech at us that we would have to leave immediately upon finishing because “we haven’t updated the site yet - we are not pet friendly”. We had a poodle inside a bag in the outdoor beer garden. The place comes up as dog friendly on a Google search. Don’t believe it. Much better options in the area. Spend your money elsewhereEDIT in response to their response:(1There was nobody there and we walked straight through to the beer garden, we didnt hide anything. Several staff came outside before we ordered and the dog was sitting (in his bagin plain sight(2There is no issue with a venue having a no-pet policy, but there IS a proper way of addressing this, and the over the top screeching and rude insistence we had to leave "immediately", which attracted the attention of everyone around and was most embarrassing, was not the way to do it(3the mass produced stuff you serve is not proper craft beer, its just priced as though it is. If you want craft beer in Frankston, go to the excellent Hop Shop
Great service, terrible food. Steaks not cooked right, food either too salty or no salt whatsoever. Desserts take way too long to come out and tasted terrible.Used to be a decent place to go to, now I wont return again.
We decided to go and check out the cheeky squire last night for our Monday night feed. The bistro was surprisingly busy for a Monday night which is always a good sign! The view of the beach and the kananook creek was a highlight! The service was very good and very helpful. We ordered everything together using the QR code on the table (drinks and foodthe drinks came out very quickly! The only odd thing is the entrée came out with our mains instead of before.Very good experiencewe will be back with family soon!
Wasnt keen on the beer selection but the cheeky Parma was ON POINT. Literally the best parma Ive had in years
Ok, decent Parma on appearance unfortunately was stone cold. But would have been up there had it been warm. The whole venue though felt in need of a deep clean, made me worry what sort of state areas customers can’t see are like… like the kitchen. Also not a busy night tonight but was fairly noisy I guess because of all the concrete and brick sound echoes a little. Ok - but wouldn’t rush back.
We came here to celebrate a birthday and enjoy catching up with family and friends. Unfortunately the overly loud background music ruined any chance of social conversation, making it a rather unpleasant experience. Our request to turn down the volume was ignored so we were reduced to eat and run only, and conversing outside of the venue. Food and drinks were excellent and atmosphere great except for the noisy background. If we wanted to dance it would have been perfect, but we went there to eat, drink, and socialise with our company. Background music is just that, in the background not foreground. You lost a lot of potential customers tonight.
Attended this venue last night and waited for over two hours for our dinner to arrive even though we asked several times . Customers came in after us at three different tables and had their meals served before us. There were no steaks ordered. It was beyond bad service .However a special mention to the security guard Nora who was friendly and helpful and made our night. She is a true gem and kind person . Thanks Nora !
Would not recommend at all. We waited over an hour until we finally saw our orders, and even then, orders were confused, missed and generally all-over-the-place. We were left feeling no confidence that we would receive what we had paid for. The food that did arrive was average at best, and definitely not worth the wait. A really disappointing waste of time.
Meals ordered for a table of 11 at 7:56pm, meals started coming out at 9:10pm after us chasing up the staff.Final meals still not out at 9:26pm... Still waiting on 4 meals.Absolutely shocking.Meals not worth waiting for either.
I found this place very nice, a little bit pricey but still very reasonable, the acoustics were nice and the atmosphere was nice. The only thing I would’ve liked is the staff to be just a little bit more friendly, they were very much a matter of fact and not super friendly, not rude either by any means, just not chatty
Visited here for a friends birthday the venue was nice had a great time until I relisted how much I had spent . Shouted a couple of pints for the boys and had some food . Over $100 you can see why I never go out anymore .
The new day & age of no more table service and having to ask to have your table cleared.Cocktails and mocktails took a long time to come out. Entree fried chicken was bland. Arancini was nice.Main pest gnocchi was really good. But hubby’s fried southern chicken burger was stone cold. Staff replaced it which was good.Desserts were tasty. Some of the staff were good and trying their best but others were rude and not doing much.
Had lunch here for a business meeting, the food and service were excellent. The chips were too tasty, if Id eaten any more Id have exploded. Wish I could come here more often.
Friday night was busy, the place was perfect for a catch up with friends. Drinks flowing and meals were good. Service was good as always. Just a great comfortable local. If you want a table Friday/Saturday night, i suggest booking in advance
Terrible dining experience. Waited two hours for meal. Would have walked out if we hadn’t pre-paid. Food was really average. Burger burnt, pasta sloppy!A nice occasion spoilt by really poor service. Never again!!!
Waited 1 hour and 15 minutes to be served lunch (pizza and a burger). Pizza was oily and warm, burger was alright but chips were warm, not hot and fresh as expected. Expected more of such a large venue. I spoke to other patrons who waited 2 hours for their lunch to arrive. If management see this review, I highly recommend the menu is condensed to fewer items to speed up service in the future.
Had dinner here last night. It was a Saturday and so was very busy. Even after the installation of noise reduction to the ceiling this is the loudest pub I have been in for a sit down meal. We were told be there QR code app (not the staffthat there was a 45min wait for meal. We stupidly accepted their challenge as my girl friend is working on her patience. At the one hour mark we did become, but we waited. At one hour and fifteen minutes my girlfriend asked a waiter how long until we get our meal. Without batting an eyelid she told another ten min. We did get an explanation that two chefs were not at work. Twenty minutes later the food arrived. A classic dump and run service. The food was between fair and good. Crispy potatoes are not crispy roast potatoes as imagined. They are jacket potatoes. We ate and got the hell out. Special mention on the drinks which took 20 minutes to arrive and only then because we asked if we could pick them up. My advice would be to hire some staff as it is clear that there is less than ten wait staff on the floor delivering food to a large venue.
Steak was cold, beef tacos were dry, the requested additions/subtractions were forgotten, the garlic bread was mostly crust and the app did not accept my discount code. Ended up having to uncomfortably request that two dishes be remade, reorder at the counter with the discount code and deal with the dry/cold meals because we didnt want to ask for any further corrections. Staff were nice and accommodating, if a little distracted and busy. The bolognaise arancini was good. The pesto gnocchi was average. The Nespresso martini was very well shaken. Prices were good. Maybe it just wasnt their best night as I had heard good things about this place previously. My partner ended up with a stomach bug the day after. If he hadnt had a stomach bug then we may have returned for drinks to give the restaurant another chance but we wont be going back.
No one at the door to greet me , I had to go looking for my party. I ordered a chicken Parmalat. It took an hour to come out and when it did chips were cold and parma just off cold. Very plain in flaver and much too much dressing on salad. Over priced. Will definately not recommend to anyone
What a great place a must visit for location and atmosphere. The food was great and it’s part of the Monties membership too. The bar has great beers on tap to choose from the steaks and service were terrific. Be sure to book as it’s very busy the view of beach river is lovely.
This place has so much potential but the food quality and service let’s it down. Unfortunately never been impressed by the food that is served and the last experience was a total disappointment. I ordered a pizza and after waiting almost an hour (it was one of three orders on the table that hadn’t arrived yetwe asked the guy in charge what was happening and got an extremely rude response. He showed appalling customer service skills. So possibly wrong field of work for him? He then approached our table with his laptop and spoke rudely again. After he finally took a little time to investigate 2/3 of the meals came out and also discovered my order was missing. He questioned this but within a few minutes that pizza was ready - very poor quality pizza. There was a female manager on that night that was super helpful and apologetic - so thank you. This place needs a revamp of its chefs and a few staff to see any positive improvements.
Beautiful space, good environment, great drink selection, food was fast but average. Would go back for convenience or drinks but not because I was craving anything in particular on the menu.
Caught up with a mate for lunch here. Not a bad location near the beach with parking out the back. Meals are the standard casual pub fare - burgers, steak, fish and chips and parma etc. A good James Square beers available are available, I enjoyed the pilsner.
Rude bar staff. I was declined a refund for our meals after I went up to ask how long our food was going to be. My partner then went up to the manager to get our refund which she was happy to give. We left after we were told our entree and mains hadn’t even started to be cooked, after 45 mins of waiting. Will not return.
First time coming here as we just moved from Sydney. The lady was kind enough to squeeze us in even though they were full! Super nice!Apparently they don’t have bbq sauce? As we were told by a worker, so we were annoyed by that considering we thought it was a staple condiment.. afterwards we then looked on the menu they had pizzas with a bbq sauce? Also we asked for gravy with our meal and got nothing, we went back and got it but got a red wine jus, when we asked the guy about it he told us “they’re the same”.. when they clearly aren’t.Chicken schnitty was pretty high priced considering how small the schnitty is and the lack of chips, which as another review commented, tasted vinegary.. maybe the salad dressing? However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom. The mac and cheese croquettes were good, as were the entree tacos and the schnitty, although small was very good.We wanted to love this place as its our new local, but the food was pretty average at best.Vibe is good though! Very noisy but good!
Nice place. Menu and payment done via de scan barcode on table. Not busy at all but it was Monday night
Paid $25 for a Lamb Greek Salad that was missing both the Fetta and the Pine Nuts. The lamb skewers were both entree sized half skewers and one wasnt full at that. So maybe enough lamb for one full sized skewer at most. Although the lamb was cooked well and tasted great I was starving after having essentially a side salad and a lamb skewer for my meal. Worse still my partner paid $42 for what was a thin slice of steak with a lot of sinew. Not a scotch fillet! Ive eaten here many times before and its never great but this one takes the cake. Yet go to Wheelers Hill James Squire and you get the biggest juiciest perfectly cooked eye fillet steak imaginable. So dissatisfied. Add all this to the system of ordering through QR code and youd be forgiven for thinking there are no staff at the venue, except to dump and run when serving food. They were pleasant enough when I asked questions, but they looked like the life had been sucked out of them. Go for the beer or wines for sure, but I wouldnt recommend the food or garden dining, which is next to the road and smoking area. Added bonus if the smoker is also going and the wind happens to be blowing in the wrong direction. Its a pity because they have the best location but this place just doesnt seem to have its S*#t together.EDITWent back today and had the first good experience weve had here in years. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was terrific. The best part, we were told we could order through the damn painful and stupid app... Or at the bar. We chose the bar, what a relief. My faith is beginning to be restored. Fingers crossed they continue on the right path.
Well what a incredible surprise. Congratulations on a truly amazing place. Right on the foreshore side of Frankston amongst everything (food, night life & beach). Big props to the door managers. So friendly & easy going - the perfect people to greet you. A chilled & elegant vibe with lots of tables to sit & watch the sunset, be romantic or to have a rowdy party...this place rocks & rolls & itll surprise you how BIG it is. Heaps of parking but be warned kitchen closes at 930pm 😜😋. Did I mention the door managers. Thank You. See you there again soon. G
We decided to go to the Cheeky Squire in frankston today for lunch. It was a windy rainy day and we hadn’t booked. The two ladies at the Cheeky check in (Mon and Annettewere very accommodating. They assisted with the check in QR scanning process and then directed us to our wonderful sea side window table. The food was absolutely beautiful as you can see by the photos. The colorful shirt wearing guy at the cocktail station created a wonderful espresso, and white chocolate and passion fruit cocktails. Delicious!!!!Every staff we encountered with was professional and genuinely lovely.Chelsea and Anissa stood out for us.The whole experience at the Cheeky Squire was great. Thank you. We will be back for sure.
This was my first visit to Cheeky Squire and I was impressed! Huge open inviting space with dedicated bar and restaurant areas, table service was prompt and efficient.I ordered the Cheeky Cheeseburger, which was a tasty meal, however would have liked the chips to be a little nicer. Worth a visit for the beers alone, the Golden Ale was smooth.
