The Center For Fine Art Photography - Non-profit organisation in Fort Collins, United States
We’d love to visit the museum. Been there many times, always closed. We were there at noon today (Tuesbecause your Web site said you opened at 10 AM. Nobody there again. Do you really exist?
***** WARNING TO ARTISTS *****I submitted a fee-based entry for possible inclusion of my artwork into a competition hosted by the Center for Fine Art Photography. I submitted through the artist hosting website the Photography Center chose to utilize which is called Cafe Listings. I logged the notification date as stated in the prospectus on my calendar and looked forward to notification on that day of either acceptance or denial into the exhibition. Having used Cafe Listings dozens of times in the past, I was expecting their standard automated email notification listing each specific art piece with an indication of acceptance or denial into the exhibition. The notification date came and went. I received no notification. In the days that followed, the art pieces I submitted were "held hostage" as I was unable to solicit them elsewhere pending notification from the Center for Fine Art Photography. Days later I checked the Photography Center website and discovered selections had been made days earlier.I contacted the Executive Director and Curator and insisted on a full refund for non-compliance on their part for not having notified me.(Let me note here, that approx. 8 years ago when I contacted the Photography Center for a different incidental business matter, to my shock, they placed me on their mailing list. I immediately removed myself from their list.)The Executive Director and Curator explained that they did send me a notification (not through Cafe Listings as they should have, but instead through iContact, their mailing list), but the notification bounced because I removed myself from their mailing list (8 years ago, mind you!). She also stated she would not be refunding my submission fee.I contacted the credit card company I paid the submission fee with, Bank of America. I submitted to them copies of the prospectus, the email exchanges, and a sample of what a Cafe Listings artist notification should look like. Bank of America has no tolerance for the irresponsible, sloppy, and incompetent business practices that were demonstrated by the Photography Center. They reversed the charge and refunded my entire submission fee.How the so-called Executive Director and Curator does one thing, is how she does everything. Irresponsible. Sloppy. Incompetent.
Always worth a visit to any of the Centers many exhibitions (they partner with other spaces in the area so locations vary). The juried shows are always of the highest caliber and the curated exhibitions demonstrate as keen an eye for great art as Ive seen anywhere.
Hamida is very rude and arrogant. She treats people like shes better than them and it sickens me. The claim of this place is to be inclusive and celebratory of people in this community, but unfortunately they have Hamida looking down her nose at people she sees as lesser. I will never again deal with her or any place that employs her.
Could use some better viewing music
Great place to see photography
My husband and I found this place on accident. I’m glad we did and got to see some stunning pieces. The staff was kind. It wasn’t crowded and didn’t feel too hoity toity. We weren’t dressed up (nor did we look like slobs), but we felt comfortable. Can’t wait to come back.
A "must visit" gallery!
Went to a small showing, nice place, parking lot could use more light.
ARTISTS BE WARE. While I think it is nice that they try to engage local artists and exhibit their work, artists be ware - this place is designed to ZAP your pocket book. They will charge you for PACKAGING of your return work, they will try to charge you for framing, shipping everything. I have worked for 20 years and exhibited widely and never seen the amount of paperwork and ways they try to make you pay them. All this for one piece in a show. While I think it is good that they have artist talks and dinners and portfolio reviews, I have never come across a place that will not reuse shipped works packaging. What about the environment and recycling? They are out to make money off artists - on a side note, in terms of photography and where it is as a field and art practice, they are still lagging behind in the 70s, with traditional themes and work that fits into the most conservative branch of photography history . Think Ansel Adams esque. It was once well known, but seems to be stuck in time now, and overly beaurocratic. (I filled out 14 pages of forms for one piece in a group show!)
Beautiful space providing support to the fine art photography community.
High quality gallery, excellent curation.
Art. Real art in town
Contemporary in both the styling of the space as well as the work that is shown there. Two small galleries and one large gallery, perfectly sized for two solo exhibitions and a group exhibition, that display photographic work that at times crosses boundaries into other mediums to expand the language of photography. Very welcoming staff as well.
Great frequently changing art photos
Beautiful art and the friendliest greeter in the world. Not a bad way to spend an hour, especially for free. Do donate though, its worth it.
Gorgeous photography. Always very inspiring. I recommend the First Friday Art walk.
The center doesnt follow up with responsibilities of critiques after photography competitions.
