The Cav - Gastropub in Auckland, New Zealand
The Cav has brought in a rule where they are not doing Jugs after 5. Really bad form. Other than that, a good experience, great manager
Strolled over for lunch in my work break and ordered the double beef truffle burger... It was way above expectations. Also it was a good size and I kinda struggled to finish it... But glad I did... Actually enjoyed the whole experience and will defs be back there in the near future... Also, theres a lot of gluten-free options for those that need it which was cool to see... Everything washed down well with a brew. GGs
Stunning city view, good beer and burger
Great atmosphere & friendly service.Food are ok too.A good old sports bar😀
Nice pub, terrible food!Chicken tacos had supermarket packet chicken in it! Rest of the tables food was terrible too. Good for a drink but eat somewhere else
Dog friendly. Nice staff. Good food
Nice decor. Good cocktails. Horrendous service. Please learn how to make your customers feel valued
Good spot to watch Joshua vs Usyk. Breakfast was a feast too 😁
Some of the best service Ive experienced, super friendly staff, great food and atmosphere as well.
Wonderful experience. Staff is just excellent. Right from the security gentleman at the door who is so friendly and helpful to the waitresses at the bar and counter, they are just so lovely and welcoming. Even tho the place was packed the service was excellent and the food was exquisite. Try the chicken burger that was quite tasty. Will visit again for sure. On street Parking is available across the road so thats handy.
Good pub style food in a great setting with wicked view of the Sky tower
Superb atmosphere & a very tasty Southern Fried Chicken Burger. Family & friends equally enjoyed their meals.
Tasty foods, great portions and friendly staff. We had nice dinner here! 😊
We took our Border Collie and other family dog Alfie to celebrate a birthday last night. Staff couldnt have been more accommodating giving us a great table where the dogs were happy but out of the way as it was pretty busy with a Blues vs Highlanders game on. They brought fresh water and dog treats over and made a fuss of our boys. Great service. Enjoyed the night.5 star woofs of approval from the fur babies!!
Bright and breezy. Sports Bar with a gastropub feel.Limited parking on street. Staff helpful and friendly.
This pub has a free quiz night every Monday, very entertaining and lots of fun, great music and friendly staff 😊.
Nice place just expensive but it was a special night so you gotta live
Business lunch. Great atmosphere, superb foods and drinks. Will do again next meeting.
Love the new Reno. Great spot with friendly crew. Good food menu. Could do with some more craft beers
Love it. Friendly service and great selection of food and beer. The chicken schnitzel is good. The beer balcony/garden loses the sun just a tad too early for my liking but its still a great place
A group of us booked a few days earlier for the NFL. The staff were extremely accommodating with getting us set up in a prime spot, along with having the commentary playing as well. Overall a great experience, tasty food and plenty of beer.
Nice decor but can be very echoie so dont go if you need a chat - youll be yelling at each other to hear. The deck is lovely if you can get a table.
Place is okay. The barman Mark though is really rude and arrogant. We were a group of around 12 trying to have a good time and he was rude with 2 of us, just because. We know you have been a barman for 20 years (you made it very clear), but you dont need to be a d**k about it.Learn how to treat your clients first.
The food was so good and the service was even better. So attentive but not over the top. We had cauli tacos, pork tacos, steak, chicken burger and kumara burger. Couldnt fault any of it. Every dish looked amazing and filled us all!!
Visited last weekend and had a great experience! The food was fantastic and the service exemplary! Staff were helpful and attentive and went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed and their recommendations were certainly reliable. The food was true gastro-pub fare - reliably "pub", but with some fantastic "gastro" thrown in. The "Best Bits" platter was a real hit (especially the prawns!). Couldnt have been happier! Congrats to your staff!
The Cav is a great inner city spot for catching up with friends. Its just up the road for me so I Iike coming here for a drink and to watch sports occasionally. The staff are friendly and attentive. My main reason for a 3 star review is that their portion sizes are quite small compared to how much youre paying. The quality is fine but I paid $28 for a chicken schnitzel and potato salad that was not particularly filling. Pub food is generally quite hearty and I didnt get that vibe here based on what my friends ordered. Credit to them for having a diverse menu, however. They also add on a surcharge for Paywave transactions. While I appreciate that small businesses need to recover these costs, for a popular and bustling institution that gets quite a bit of custom, its a bit cheeky to ask them to cover what is essentially an admin expense. It just feels like lately, the goodwill of customers is being taken advantage of.
Hearty food with generous portion sizes, particularly the sharing platter. Fine selection of wines and even finer staff with superb customer service. Piera served our food/drinks and she was very attentive and hospitable throughout our visit. Thank you!
Excellent service staff, helpful and friendly…great southern chicken burger, fries… kids menu great … sports bar vibe loud but thats expected… overall great
Delicious food, quiet pokies, well heeled, but laid back staff and locals, very good service, 11 out of 10.
Nice Ponsonby pub, good for drinking but do not come here to eat.The food is well overpriced. Example $32 for a greasy, overcooked pork schnitzel with a small pile of potatoes and mayonnaise. Seriously??
Great sports bar buzzing with people and with a large choice of beers. Surreal experience watching an UFC fight live with a bunch of friends. Very welcoming staff.
Great menu options and awesome vibe at The Cav. Staff are friendly and provide great service. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating that caters for both large and small groups. Theres a nice lounge area if youre stopping for a quick drink.
Nice place - sat out in the sun and had some cocktails and a ciggie. Good menu - food looked good although we didnt eat but cocktails were nice. Easy walk to Wynyard Quarter.
Always a really friendly team, have never encountered a surly bar person here ever. Lots of options for seating, out on the deck for views of the Sky Tower and city, in the cosy snug for a quiet chat or in the main bar area to watch sport on the big screen tvs. Not quite certain the food lives up to its gastro expectations but decent enough bar food from the meals weve tried.
Fabulous pub overlooking the city. Located on college hill and ponsby street. Great food. Good beer and prices. Locals pub.
Great fit out. Quality beers. Havent been for a while and pleased to be back
Went here for lunch and a function once. Nice bar and decor with popular food options. Most of us had burgers or the chicken waffles. Service is friendly and attentive even though it gets crazy busy and loud. Great place to just get drinks after work.
Very expensive food menu for a sports bar... awkward location halfway between Ponsonby and the Viaduct all by its lonesome... nice interior for meeting up with friends... not my favourite bar.
Our service was perfect, atmosphere is tough to beat. Food was excellent. Great seating choices for all weather. Loved the beer. Tha Cav is perfect.
Rude staff, expensive, nice ambience, food ok
Nice environment and beautiful place. Didn’t really like the food i had here, pretty expensive
Great food, tastes high quality and very flavorful. Service is very good, waiters are quite attentive and friendly. Nothing to complain about here, they also have a good selection of beers.
Had an awesome afternoon catching up with old friends here!!Great food and service!!
Food was great, service was awesome. Great beer selection too. Been 3 times never lets me down either
Beautifully furnished pub, great service and delicious, very flavorsum food. Went with the family for dinner and we all left extremely happy. Would definitely go back again!
Good food, try their southern fried chicken or fish tacos. Theyre really good. Be warned, it gets really busy during dinner time especially on Thursdays and Fridays from office crowds.
The Cav is one terrific surprise. 19th century inner city street front. 21st century interior. Super staff, friendly and welcoming. Fun gastropub food. Superb selection of tap beers. Recommended to visitors and locals both. A fun place to watch sports broadcasts.By the way the Cav is not in any way a "real boys club" as another review mentions.
Real boys pub but great pub. The corn mash is not corn its just potato mash with a few bits of corn in it thats my only gripe. Rest of food was good pub food. They have a great outdoor area as well.
Nice wide drink selection with knowledgeable staff. Nice bright and open atmosphere, great for those sunny afternoon /evening catch ups with friends.
The food was terrible and the price of the nibbles are outrageous !! staff not overly friendly...that’s Not how the old place use to be my first visit to the new place was a thumbs down experience.
