The Cat Inn - in Wete, Tanzania
What a super place - lovely, friendly and informative staff, great food. British wines and beer. Thoroughly recommended especially after a good walk in nearby Wakehurst. Definitely 5*. Well be back
Every meal on our table was delicious, staff really friendly and helpful. That Cat always gets it right 👌
Amazing Sunday lunch. The staff are very helpful and attentive in a great village location and building. Although parking is limited there are plenty of places in the village to park. Great local food and beer 😎
Some close friends recommend the Cat Inn as they are foodies like us.It was my birthday week so hubby booked us in for dinner and an overnight stay, followed by breakfast. There was parking available upon arrival. The Inn is seeped in history and atmosphere. As soon as you enter the saloon there is a wonderful fire going. We were greeted by Lisa who was very welcoming.Lisa took us to our room (4)and what a lovely room. All the little extra thoughts and attention to detail were much appreciated. The coffee and teas were a varied range and good quality.A large bathroom fully kitted out with towels , robes and flannels. The bed was extremely comfortable with lots of pillows and a lavender pillow spray to help sleep. Now to dinner…Ashley greeted us and such a lovely friendly person. We were placed by the second fire place to eat.We are real foodies so the review is quite detailed for our fellow foodies! My husband had the forest mushroom soup followed by the steak and ale pie.I had the rib eye followed by the cheese board. I had never tastedBaron bingod or Balcombe blue cloud. What can we say!Hand on hearts the soup was creamy and deep in flavour delicious. The pie was so tender and tasty and packed full of meat. How we all wish a pie could be & should be but never is. Hubby was commenting at nearly every mouthful 😆I have had 1000’s steaks in my 59 years from renowned steak restaurants including the Coal Shed. My rib eye quite honestly was the best I have ever tasted. It was melt in the mouth, it was deep in flavour and one didn’t really need a serrated knife to cut through it was so tender. Medium cooked to perfection. The selection of Sussex and local wines were very impressive.Breakfast:I have never described a breakfast as pretty or quaint! I wish I had taken photos! The table had individual pots, jars, vessels etc all filled with little portions for two of corn flakes, muesli, the sweetest tasting blackberries, raspberries, blueberries & strawberries in one bowl. Then the apricots and prunes in two other glass pots. Greek yoghurt and the famous tiny Tiptree jars. A lovely glass jug filed with OJ.Our full English cooked breakfast was perfect portions and not overloaded. The coffee was very good too.Thank you to all the team at The Cat Inn. We are working out when we can come again.
Lovely old English pub. Good food, good beers and a selection of local Sussex and English wines. Very dog friendly.
Fantastic food and served me after a long bike ride with minutes to spare before the kitchen closed. Thanks :)
Had a fantastic experience at the Cat. We live relatively close but it was the first time we tried it. It was in a beautiful setting and the decor inside was homely. We only went in on a Friday night for a couple of drinks and some chips but the staff were lovely. We felt really looked after from start to finish. Will definitely be coming back soon!
Twice my food and the service was excellent and dare I say exceptional! If you are looking for a high quality meal in a warm and friendly atmosphere, thats The Cat Inn. Best to make a reservation at weekends.Do not hesitate trying the vegetarian option! If Id live closer by, Id be part of the inventory.
2nd time weve eaten here whilst camping at the beautiful Hook Farm site, and both occasions excellent experiences. Staff extremely helpful and friendly and food to die for (especially the steak and ale pies!). Totally dog friendly. Highly recommended.
Charming pub in a beautiful village setting. Excellent lunch with friendly and efficient service, Good value as well, highly recommended.
Very friendly and welcoming. Good tasty dishes.
Fabulous food, great service and helpful staff. Great for a special occasion, really enjoyed ourselves.
Best burger ever. Wonderful personal service
Nice pub in nice location, had a pleasant hour or two here
Fantastic service, food, ambience and location. I look forward to going back next week. I thoroughly recommend without hesitation.
Such a lovely place for a meal out! Amazing food, couldn’t fault it at all. Staff were so friendly too.
Good food. Lovely people. Comfortable. Charming location. Whats not to like?
Dont normally bother with these reviews, but really enjoyed my trip here. OK the weather was perfect and wed enjoyed a beautiful traffic free walk across the fields from Horsham, but the pub really was the icing on the cake. The menu was the perfect mix of slightly innovative dishes and more traditional pub stuff such as fish and chips, in other words not too pretentious. Beer tip top too. 👍👍
I went to this pub for the first time a few weeks ago and was extremely impressed! The food was amazing. I had a crispy squid and chorizo salad with a side of caesar broccoli and it was to die for!The waitress was really friendly and attentive and able to recommend dishes really well which is rare nowadays. The pub was extremely accommodating to fit us in at such short notice. The decor is beautiful with fresh flowers and a lovely country vibe which you dont get often enough anymore.Well worth a visit!
Great, food great staff what more could you want!
Pleasant pub in a nice village setting. Decent range of draughts. Helpful and friendly staff. Friends had light lunches which were well presented. One thing of note, for those that dont know. They had "stonebass" on the menu, and a member of staff said that it was bass from the med. Stonebass is a recently made up name (to make it more marketablefor the Meagre, a fish that is farm produced around the med. It does not taste like bass. I only remark on this, as I was caught out in a restaurant in the med by this, and it was rather disappointing.
Excellent food, great, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. Love this place...
Very good. Professional knowledgeable friendly staff. Lovely food. Had a lovely Sunday lunch with the other half. Was busy but everyone knew what they were doing and all ran smoothly. Definitely recommend. Thanks Cat
Awesome food! A really delicious range of pub classics. The service was excellent and the quality of food was incredible.
Love this pub. Always a popular choice for eating out. Food is excellent. Staff friendly and very efficiently managed.
Went for lunch today, when asking for a table for 2 was told”NO!”Shocked- I asked if we could sit outside (to rest a minute before the hike back to Gravetyebefore I could finish my sentence “NO!” AgainAll I could say was “Wow” which was responded to with “WHY, WHY?? I’LL TELL YOU WHY THERE IS LIKE 75 people in here.I didn’t say why, have never been treated so horrible & hope no one ever has an experience like this anywhere.
Came in without a reservation after a 10 mile hike, hungry and tired. Staff were overwhelmingly accommodating, found me a table, fed me incredibly tasty food, and I was sad to go. Will definitely come again.
Wonderful roast, great service in a very cosy, spacious pub in the beautiful village of West Hoathly. Highly recommended
It was an exceptional meal, really varied menu. Excellent wine list and the staff were wonderful. Thank you so much, we will definitely be back!!!!
Excellent food, beautifully presented and Harveys beer on draught. Also has some interesting local wines. Best to book. Friendly staff.
Fantastic food in a beautiful spot. Recommend booking as a very popular place. Will definitely come back. Had the mussels with chips and could not eat more as it was perfect for a lunch. Very high quality produce and the staff are amazing.
Great staff, food and drinks and situated in a location handy for the countryside and local attractions such as Wakehurst Place and Leonardslee gardens.
The Cat Inn has a very friendly and wel coming ambiance. Their food is delicious and generously portioned. The service is impeccable. A wonderful experience for a Sunday Lunch awaits you. Highly recommended.
I went for lunch here on a Sunday with the family and very much enjoyed my meal, which was Roast Beef. I would say the beef was very tender, and there was plenty of horseradish. Along with the Roast Potatoes came both green and red cabbage and a carrot. This is in addition to a Yorkshire Pudding, which was a good size, although Ive had much bigger ones both at Dunnings Mill and the Red Lion.Ideally Id give this pub 3.7-3.9 stars. This is to the gravy and meat not being that hot when they came out, and the gravy, although being a deep brown in colour, not being that tasteful. In saying this I would not the following positives:>All the staff were very nice, and the service was the best Ive had at a pub in a long time. They always collected the plates promptly, offered to get drinks, and were quick to take our orders. The food also came very quickly, and this was when it was very busy.> The desert I had was very good also: Apple and Rhubarb Nut Crumble with Custard.I would recommend.
Stunning lunch. If anything the entrees were too generous. A deep rich and creamy mushroom soup with truffle, and the plate of mussels which would have been enough for two both perfectly flavoured with sourdough on the side.On to the roasts. The sirloin was perfectly cooked, lean meat and all the trimmings beautifully accompanied. The roast chicken was the most tender piece of breast ever (sous vide?Moist, succulent with again, amazing veg.The only suggestion for the kitchen if I was nit picking would be to perfect the gravy. It was a little watery and lacked some depth of flavour. But overall, this was a very very high quality lunch and the best roast Ive had in the UK.Well done.
This is a real find! We had an absolutely wonderful meal here, the food really is amazing and of a very high standard. It was a treat to be able to have a pint of mother in law to accompany my dinner. We are all really looking forward to going again.
Amazing food, attentive staff, and a really clean, well maintained building with tasteful decorations. On a cold day we had the best table in the place next to the fire. Plan to return to explore some more from the menu!
Made a visit to The Cat Inn based on a recommendation from a friend. Decided to book just incase it was busy, even though it was for a Sunday lunch slot. Glad we did because it filled up fast. The meal was amazing. Even though the menu wasnt massive it had lots of variety and based on the 2 mains we chose which were outstanding, I bet every other choice would have been of the same quality. All freshly cooked from scratch, which isnt something most restaurants can say these days. The daily specials looked amazing too.Service was spot on. Greated by a lovely smile and welcome and throughout the meal felt very cherished by our waitress. If you get the chance to get a meal here go for it. Such a lovely experience, so much so well be going back again and again. Thank you
Nice place, nice atmosphere and staff polite. In my experience not good valve for money. Had a roast dinner here that cost almost £20! Had two small slithers of roast beef, 3 potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and a small amount of veg. Worst thing was it didnt even taste that good, potatoes tasted reheated. 9 of us are here, so a lot of money for a lot of disappointment. My partner has a gluten and dairy allergy so couldnt have Yorkshires or gravey and was substituted with kale! Shame as its a really well ran pub
Great service, great food, open fires. Whats not to like?Steak was really very good, and priced at what youd expect a sirloin to be. Gammon, the same. Two mains I hear you ask? No, I merely hoovered up the kids leftovers.Great experience all round. Highly recommended.
The Cat as usual didnt disappoint, we had the scotch egg as a starter which was delicious. We all had different mains and we were equally happy with our choices. The service was very good. Looking forward to returning soon.
Great place, a real pub with a great restaurant, good to see a crowd of regulars just enjoying a drink, unlike some places where drinkers are discouraged in favour of diners filling tables. Went in for just a drink, but ended up eating great meal after they kindly found a space, even on a Friday night. Recommended!
The Cat Inn offers the superb combination of friendly service with charm and character, exquisite food, wonderful drinks and a fantastic atmosphere. We were celebrating a special birthday and could not have had a more perfect evening. All the food was fresh, delicious and presented with precision. Dietary request were handled with care and understanding and the selection of drinks was delightful. The Winter Negroni special was well balanced and epitomised everything I wanted in a festive cocktail and it was lovely to see and enjoy Lagavulin 16 after dinner. A fantastic experience!
Went for lunch for our anniversary. Couldnt have made a better choice. Menu choice is good, plus there is a specials board. It was so good we had 3 starters, 2 mains and 3 desserts. All very very good! Staff and service were excellent. Thanks you all.
This is our second night staying at The Cat Inn. Absolutely nothing negative to say. Clean and comfortable rooms. Food here is traditional pub food executed amazingly. The dining room is a lovely place to eat. Named in the Michelin guide. All of our party had lovely snacks, starters and mains. Given the quality its great value for money. Not a huge wine list but nice options. You wont be disappointed. Breakfast the next morning was exactly as it should be, varied options and all tasty. Beautiful countryside for walks.
Just the most wonderful pub, the food is perfect. I couldnt fault it. It rivals any top restaurant, and what makes it so much better is its the most welcoming environment with the most lovely staff. They seem like an amazing team. I will make this pub my go-to for any special occasion or monthly meal out. I travelled from Brighton and honestly it was so worth it.
Always great food and service. A safe bet if you want an excellent meal. Thoroughly recommended.
Really excellent food, reasonable prices, good service, good ambiance.Only minor downside was finding a parking space in the village when busy.Definitely one of our favourite pub restaurants in Sussex.
Was a bit put off to start with by the rather harsh booking system which told us wed only have 1.5 hours at our table and if we didnt show theyd take £25 for each person off my card. Once there the staff were friendly but their outdoor seats are REALLY uncomfortable. We did end up being able to stay as long as we wanted and the food was nice, although my salad was too salty.
My favourite venue locally.Delicious food, clean, tidy, traditional and full of little nooks and crannies.Log fire and plenty of outdoor seating.Friendly staff and in my eyes - it’s one of the best places for food in the area. My personal challenge is to try the entire menu before it changes in the new year!
