The Butcher’s Tap - Bar in Tonga, Cameroon
It’s the best steak place going. If ever I’m working near we stop by. Does get quiet busy so be quick to get there.
Meat extravaganza, great place, great food, very friendly staff
Good food. Facilities a bit basic and a chaotic place for the beginner. Staff were lovely though
Visited with a friend late Saturday afternoon. Good atmosphere, staff are efficient and quirky
The best hot dog I’ve ever tasted absolutely fantastic. The staff are friendly & efficient really lovely.
Fantastic experience dining. The bar is a butchers counter, you can choose a piece of steak (lots of cuts), or there was pork and lamb as well. I chose a pork tomahawk that had a Korean bbq marinade. They weigh the cut and the price of the piece of meat goes on the bill. You then take it to the grill and they listen to how you want it cooked and you choose sides (thoroughly recommend the Hispi Cabbage with lamb ragu side). There is a £14.50 grill fee per person on top of the meat cost and sides are charged separately. However prices are very reasonable for the obvious quality of ingredients and the considerable expertise of the chefs. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. The Parmesan and truffle loaded fries and homemade onion rings were fantastic.Thoroughly recommend the whole experience. Jamie (Exec Chefhelped us choose our meat and made a point of asking us how it was as we left. All staff were so helpful and friendly I felt compelled to write this review (I rarely do). We will be back, will not mind waiting for a table (they don’t take bookings and the place was packed).
I was very lucky to visit here on my last trip to the UK. As the name suggests the restaurant leans heavily towards a meaty choice. In fact I would say this is an homage to every thing meat based. The staff were wonderful and I had Chefs recommendation. It was divine. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the deserts as I had no room to try. I can however recommend the cheesy truffle chips - flavours I have never tasted before. The rhubarb gin was a first for me too. Very good. Another feather in the cap for Tom Kerridge.
Nice service , great food...want to come back again and again...❤️
Great food, great prices and really wonderful staff.
Wow, just wow. Weve come to Marlowe for a treat visit for my husbands birthday. We stumbled across The Butchers Tap & Grill & went in because it was pouring with rain. Little did we know that wed have the BEST meal!! Completely naive to this set up, we ordered. In the meantime speaking to everyone!! We met some wonderful people and what a compliment to have the Town Clerk regularly support the cuisine too & be on first name terms with all the staff! The staff were amazing, knew everything there was to know. The food.....sensational. My eyes were definitely bigger than my belly, but then I had the best goodie bag to bring home!!! Steaks cooked exactly how you ask for them, side dishes delicious, service for drinks - brilliant, you just had to decide whether to say yes or no to another. We went in for a quick drink and came out 3½ hours later with very full bellies and loads of memories under our belts. There was a constant buzz of people and an atmosphere to be amazed by. Thank you so much Jamie, Ed & the team. We had the best evening.
Avoid everything except the steak.Eating here youll find lovely service and brilliant cuts of meat - both of which are thoroughly ruined by the cheapest recipes and sauces. We had 3 meals. The beef burger was overcooked and both the beef and pork burger were slathered in awful sauces which ruined the meat, even the fries came soaked in sauce. At least the steak was good. Not worth the money.
Greeted at the door like long lost friends. The staff were all so helpful and friendly. The food was truly amazing and tailored to each individuals needs. Fabulous to find such a place that takes only walk in customers. A real find. Already planning a reason to go back.
Mac " n cheese bits Luke warm. Re done and were ok. Nothing to get over excited about.Steaks and burgers seemed to be going down well with other customers.
Do visit if you are in town. Small shop / restaurant with limited seating. The quality of the meat is phenomenal and it does not cost the world. We had a pork belly burger and the Vegetarian main, which were both amazing. They had a gherkin ketchup which was very interesting, went really well with the fried bits.
Everything about this place was top notch. Amazing food, amazing service! Will return.
Absolutely worth a visit. We shared the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Burger and the Sirloin Steak fresh from the counter. Both drinks and steak were reasonably priced. We popped the MacnCheese bites as a little starter which were "Proper Lush"
Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic food. You get to pick your cut and they are very help!
Well, worlds apart! Had a great meal, as always but the service, attention to detail and the fact I was made very welcome was a pleasure compared to my last visit! Certainly got it right now! Really made a rubbish day a little better! Thank you!
Not impressed. The place was practically empty when we visited yet it took 30 mins to order and another 45 mins to eat. The time our order took to prepare would have been acceptable if the meat was better prepared than what we manage to achieve at home. But it was simply blunt, devoid of any taste.
Not sure if it’s the covid hangover, the crazy inflation and supply chain issues but something is wrong at the Butcher’s Tap and Grill. We arrived to find it about 2/3 full, busy but not crazy. We ordered the chicken burger and the classic burger. Two sides of Parmesan cheese and truffle chips. This took 25 min to arrive. Yes, 25 min to rustle up two burgers and chips… other tables ordered after us and were served before us so it wasn’t a busy thing, it was a disorganisation thing. Anyway, we were looking forward to the chips - at £6,50, this was going to be good! Well… they came in a box which was a little weird but okay. We opened the box. French fries with a blob of mayo and some Parmesan cheese grated on top - for £6.50…Maybe some truffle in there somewhere but like a grain of gold in a swamp, not worth looking for. For the price (nearly double that of normal French friesI was embarrassed for the owners. So, things were bad to begin with but we could only go up from here right? Wrong. If you look up “bland” in the dictionary, there is probably a photo of these two burgers. Completely tasteless with no seasoning at all, not even salt or pepper. The cheese was processed, like the kind that comes out of a tube. It was supposed to come with roasted onions - er… a mushy paste like mess of what can only be described as fried onions and very little of them, was smeared on the bottom bun. The burger was so bad I could not finish it (and I had skipped breakfast to make room for this treat). The chicken burger was slightly better (which isn’t saying muchand no way was that buttermilk fried chicken. Bland and tasteless, again with no seasoning at all, not even salt or pepper. To be fair, they are advertising for a grill job at the moment so possibly there is nobody there who knows how to cook. In any event, whoever is cooking needs serious training. How hard is it to screw up a burger? Not that hard, apparently. It was our first and last time. What was supposed to be a special occasion ended up leaving a bad taste in the mouth. After leaving we went to a coffee shop down the road and bought some decent food.Avoid.
Disappointing. Over 30 mins wait for a chicken burger. Staff uninterested. Once served, no one came to check in. The burger itself was awful. The chicken lacked seasoning. Not worth visiting again.
Unfortunately a disappointing experience. I took my son for a meal for Father’s Day. The front of house staff were friendly and quickly took our order. Unfortunately the bar staff then apparently mistakenly sent our drinks to the garden, so we ended up waiting a long time for them to arrive when our waitress realised later that they hadn’t arrived. We ordered a starter to share before our mains, but the kitchen sent out the starter with my sons main meal, so he had finished by the time my meal arrived after I had to chase it up. Extra sauces we ordered were forgotten and had to be requested again. The burger I ordered was dry and overcooked for my liking. Considering it’s made with premium meat, I was expecting a juicy slightly pink burger. Unfortunately mine was bone dry and hardened. If Mr Kerridge were served in this way with that meal, I would like to think he’d be disappointed.
Full English bap.. OMG.. Well done BT&G team. You just have to go here for breakfast and coffee.. lunch, dinner.. anytime 🤣 incredible 🌟
Very busy place just after 5pm on a Friday. You can order steaks or other meats from the counter case and have it grilled right there if you wish, but I went for the burger. Excellent floor manager was very proactive, greeting and bantering with the guests, guiding the busy staff. To start with I thought I’d try and order a burger my way, then thought twice and went Olde School naked to try their standard Classic with just bacon, sautéed onions, pickles & burger sauce; added some chips and a coke. OMG. The meat, the char, it worked perfectly together. Absolutely one of the simplest, best burgers I have had since 30yrs in the US. Didn’t miss all the veggies, it’s all about the meat. Worth every penny of the £18.50.
Brilliant place from top to bottom, we walked in on Easter Sunday and were warmly welcomed as if we were old friends. This is a brilliant place, good beer, fantastic food , if you are in Marlow you have to go here!
Loved this place, absolutely first class. Service is excellent from the moment you walk in, food is brilliant and some great beers and wines. Wish I lived closer to this place
Sides and the service is great, meat is phenomonal however, the grilling was a nightmare, we got an overcooked côte de boeuf, with burned outside. Sadly this is unacceptable, Did not ask for a change of meat as it is disrespectfull for the dead animal to be replaced due to a grill person error. We ate it where possible but was an unacceptable and a disgracefull experience to an amazing cut of beef. The math for sides are there, but grill needs a drastic change before this place can be revisited. (If you like your meat rare or medium rare)
Just returned from a fantastic evening at The Butchers Tap and Grill. The food was outstanding and the service from Tina and the team was incredible. We will return on a future trip without a doubt! All the best, James & Matt.
Nice looking place inside , quite small though so you’re almost rubbing elbows with other people sat near you.Me and my girlfriend had the classic burger which was really nice , nice tasting good quality seasoned meat and quite big , good value for money at £9 I thought, considering it’s a Michelin starred restaurant. The loaded Parmesan and truffle fries were a bit of a disappointment, just fries with some standard Mayo on top with a little truffle running through it and some grated Parmesan on top. Not sure if this Mayo was homemade , it didn’t seemed to be , but at £5.50 a pop you’d want it to be. Grilled chorizo started was nice and the onions rings were nice.I was originally going to have a steak but couldn’t bring myself to pay an extra £12.50 for them to cook it which I thought was a joke. Because it is a butchers shop you go up to the counter choose your cut , pay for the weight and then they cook it for you, like I said for an extra £12.50!I wanted a rib eye steak with some fries and onion rings etc. and on working it out it would’ve cost me around £35-£40 for a decent sized steak around 350-400 grams with the fries and onion rings and I just couldn’t bring myself to spend that on steak and chips. I get that the meat is of good quality and age-dried and what not , but they really need to reconsider their prices. So we just stuck to the burgers , and didn’t regret it. A bit of a mixed review here. Some of the items on the menu and the meat are a little overpriced, but all in all and nice little experience.
Was taken here a few months back, and to be honest I was expecting a hole to be burnt in my Yorkshire wallet.... Its Marlow! But prices for burgers and drinks was no different to what others charge. Our burgers were amazing, cooked to perfection and I added the bacon (expect a thick slice of gammon). Very filling and ticked all the boxes.Heading down again soon and may go for the steak (about to lose job so it will be a F**k It blow out).
10/10. Absolutely buzzing place. Everything about this bar, butcher, restaurant is top. The service was on fire, the staff were super friendly, and obviously the food and drinks were second to none. We had help choosing our meat cut from the counter and walking over to have it grilled for you was just a great touch. We were told by one regular customer (glass of red in hand‘go talk to the staff and ask for them to take you on the journey’I left thinking….. ‘when can I come back and eat here?’
Amazing experience from start to finish.Love the concept of butcher shop/bar and grill. Some of the best local produce you can get, cooked to a very high standard in a very unique setting. Staff so friendly and helpful. Price was very reasonable for the quality of food. Will make the 5 hour drive from Newcastle back one day just to eat here.
Excellent food Including brilliant steaks cut to size and cooked to order. Great hot dogs, beef burgers, excellent wine and beer. Basically a butchers where you order your cut of meat and then cooked to order and served at counter or table. No bookings required, no reservations just turn up. Also just use as a bar or butchers shop has a garden too. Alex is an excellent host, superb tutorials, a magnificent ambassador. Loved it.
Lunchtime visit in the outdoor garden seating area. Food was delicious although a bit pricier than your normal burger joint. Food came rather quickly. When they say bacon, it’s a proper thick slab of pork belly! It was amazing.
Dont miss the chilli cheese fries. The Butchers Tap & Grill is great. There is a cool, trendy, older, laid back, slightly hipster vibe to the Butchers Tap, Tom Kerridges latest addition to his stable of eateries in Marlow. As an eaterie the Butchers Taps seating is not glamorous, it is tight and cosy. The staff are, without fault, always friendly and helpful.Food wise we rate their buttermilk chicken burger as probably the most delicious chicken burger we have ever enjoyed and amongst the best of any sort of burger. It is something to be enjoyed without hesitation. The chilli cheese fries are similarly not to be missed. So far, the food has been excellent. If dining with multiple friends for sure get a table but for parties of 2 or fewer we suggest eating at the bar. Might just be our experience but we have met and talked with some truly fabulous and memorable patrons.
Excellent staff and outdoor seating. Good burgers.
Delicious burgers, really tasty with unusual mayo but the best bit was the dessert! Biscoff & salted caramel cheesecake. Oh my goodness, one of the best things I have ever tasted! 😋
Great food and atmosphere and the fresh meat is excellent. The team are brilliant with excellent service. Im a regular he keeps returning and the beer garden is perfect for a beer or G&T in the evening sunshine
Finally tried the Butchers tap today for lunch. We were given a great welcome and received lovely service throughout. The brisket burger was easily one of the best burgers Ive ever tasted, the chips were perfect too. The beer garden is a nice addition. We will definitely be back.
Came especially to Marlow to try this place on a colleague’s rec. Great service (staff good at getting you to order more food!and food quickly came out. Both burgers (chicken and three cheesehad juicy patties and tasted amazing. Chilli chips were great. Coleslaw is a small portion but tasted good. Would recommend to come as a destination place if not based near.
Our first visit to The Butchers Tap and it was a very enjoyable evening. Delicious burgers and hot dogs, full of flavour, with lovely toppings and relishes. Excellent sides too, particularly the truffle mac and cheese and the chorizo. Really friendly and attentive service from Max and his colleagues. We will definitely return.
We were visiting Marlow and happened to be passing by at lunchtime so popped in. What a great find - the food was delicious. Best burger we have had and the staff are fantastic. Its not local for us but will still definitely be back.
I was very disappointed with this place and expected more from a Tom Kerridge eatery. I Had the Bacon and Blue cheese burger which I was excited to try but when it turned up I was disappointed as the Bun was made from what seemed to be pretzel bread, the burger was dry, the Bacon was too thick and over salty and the onion chutney was also over powering. Add to that lot a very strong blue cheese and it was a disaster in a box (it comes in a cardboard box wrapped in foil). The Chili Cheese fries and the Onion rings were good which made up for the below par burger. I will say that I do like what they have done with the inside of the bar in terms of the layout. It much more spacious and comfortable from what it used to be. They have a fairly limited choice of beer as well and could do with a craft beer on offer. Dont go to this place expecting too much, it is average at best. I am hoping that they will make a few tweaks and get the recipe right but till I hear that has happened I will not be returning.
Lovely unique shop/bar. Reasonably priced drinks and food. The truffle and Parmesan fries were sublime! In fact, all the food is quite incredible. We also tried the fried mac and cheese amongst others. Well worth a visit!
A well needed burger place for this area and the staff especially this young girl who served us were all fantastic. However... given you are visiting for a high quality and further towards the higher prices side, the toilets were disgusting... they are unisex but they smelt and looked like men’s toilets. There was urine on the seat, the seats were up, as a woman it was not an experience you expect in a place like this. If you choose to have unisex toilets, cleaning should be doubled. I’m not sure I would visit again because of this, which is a shame because the food and staff were perfect.
My new favourite burger, sorry Flamin cow. The quality of the meat is top notch. The chilli fries are excellent. I will be back soon to test the hotdogs. Rollon end of UKlockdown so I can sit inside the restaurant.
Haven’t been able to have a drink due the restrictions but as a butchers, one of if not the best. Friendly staff full of information to help you get the most out of you selected meats. Haven’t had a chance to eat the steaks I brought but I will update you all when they have been devoured. Looking forward to it. Meat balls, superb.Just cooked up the rib eye steak 🥩. The butcher said it would be the best steak ever, simply true it was melt in the mouth experience, superb. BZ.
The best place to buy meat for miles around. The chicken and duck may seem expensive, but its not. I remove the breasts before I roast it. Each breast is VERY generous for another meal for two. Below is ONE cut up chicken breast. Close the bird up and it roasts perfectly with NO over cooked-breast! Then it works out as 3 very reasonable meals each for 2 people. Duck or chicken.
Tried this place recently for an early evening pre dinner drink and also considered eating here. Service was good and so was the IPA served in the old style pint jug. There’s no menu and the food available is in a display cabinet just below the bar. Seemed like it was mostly pies available the night I visited which wasn’t what I really wanted so just had the drink and left. Bar area is a small and was certainly popular on this particular evening.
For those whinging about prices: this is a Tom Kerridge gaff!!! What do you expect? Wife and I purchased some amazing ribeye that was spot on. The butcher gave us some great cooking tips and threw in some lovely garlic butter. Total cost for two huge steaks was £27... will return for a beer and sausage roll..
