The Bullfish Bar + Kitchen - Caribbean restaurant in Baton Rouge, United States
Wonderful experience with terrific food. Incredibly accommodating and patient staff.
Food was freaking delicious, service was meh. If dining in, be prepared to wait. Food wise: lamb chops, jerk shrimp & grits, and mojo fries were amazing. Didnt have garnishes for certain drinks for brunch.
This place is horrible 1.the service the man who took our order we were waiting for 10 minutes for drinks 2.i asked for something different they said ok but couldn’t take something I didn’t eat off the order 3.took to long to bring simple small things
The service here has REALLY declined. Everything was sold out. No bartender so no alcoholic beverages. Not even straws. Dirty cups. Had to ask several times for service. Extremely unprofessional. Will not be returning.
Everything I ordered was delicious including the drinks! The staff was friendly. The atmosphere was a vibe I’m definitely going back
Lovely place and wonderful, friendly management. My wife and I just moved here and this was the first place we went to eat being that it’s close. Food was great and the owners were so friendly!
This was my first time ever trying Oxtail and OMG 😱 it was soooo great and the gumbo and the cornbread is soo unique they are great I advise everyone to come try
Not sure why my experience has been horrible not once but twice. Just left here with my sister. Only one other table was there. The staff was nice but the waitress had no clue how to put in our order nor was there a bartender. There were only 2 ppl working. The other lady tried to make a drink for us and it sat at the bar for 10 mins. We saw the two staff ppl gathered by the order system thing for about 10 mins trying to figure out how to put our order in. We waited 20 mins before deciding to leave. The waitress was new. This is similar to a situation we encountered in 2019, again no one else was in the restaurant and we waited over 2 hours to get our food. Thankfully this time we listened to our instinct. This restaurant is horribly managed and operated.
Amazing! Great customer service. Excellent food. Enjoyed the jerk salmon and returned the following day for brunch shrimp and grits. Owner was extremely nice and personable. Also, our waiter Do (sp?and the bartender were both great. Visiting from Cali, our hotel was connected to the restaurant. If/when we are in the area again will definitely return.
First time visiting, and It was horrible!!! Waited so long for a waitress to come to the table. Finally ordered the Tender Jerk Porkchop anddddd it almost took a tooth out. Waited for my waitress to come get the NOT tender porkchop and was swarmed by knats. Not to mention a fly in my water. Bad experience!!! Will never eat there again!!!!! No sorry just a check.
This place has great food …. But HORRIBLE SERVICE…. The host on the phone barely understands what you’re saying and you’ll lose your appetite before getting your food even if you call in , they’ll say 30 mins over the phone , then you’ll get there n wait another 30 mins to an hr before getting your food …. Same frustration when you eat in and it happens every time I eat there (( more than 10 occasions )bc like I said FOOD GOOD but SERVICE HORRIBLE.
The food was amazing, and the server Jawaun was exceptional. I had the Jerk Chicken Entree; with Mac N Cheese, Cabbage, Cornbread and Sweet Potato Souffle. The only thing that I could recommend is the management updating the menu on the website because its different. However, I will be back.
Saw a rat 🐀 inside the restaurant (several other patrons saw it too). Slow service (ordered a beverage, waited 10 minutes just to be told they’re out of it). Inattentive staff (hard getting someone to seat me, no hostess?). Seemed like a good restaurant on paper but the real thing wasn’t that good of an experience.
Came here for Mothers Day. We had a reservation for 1:15pm. We were sat on the outside patio and waited for someone to serve us for 45mins (keep in mind we have a reservation). Never took our drinks or anything. It took about 2 hours for the food to come out. The food was great, however when it was time to pay I was charged $9 more than what the menu listed. The "manager" explained to me that they didnt updated their brunch menus, so they charged the new price (which is illegal). Werent helpful at all. Worst service ever. Worst employees ever. Please do better.
Utterly upset with my service here at Bullfish. We had reservations for 1:15 and we were seated outside. It took a waiter almost a whole hour to take our DRINK orders in the hot 90 degree Louisiana Heat. When we finally got our order in, it took a whole other hour for our food to even get out. When we finally got our receipts, we noticed that the menu prices are NOT ACCURATE compared to the prices that are on the receipt. We are paying about $10 extra of what is stated on the original menu. We mentioned this to the "manger", and he said there should be a sign hanging up but could not point in the direction of one. The least they can do is let people know that the prices are inaccurate on the menu but they did not. Horrible service, very disappointed.
Absolutely loved this place. We went for brunch and they were very understaffed our server was basically waiting on every table and he was still AMAZING. Jawaun was such a delight and deserves a raise! He was literally like a rockstar. Our food and mimosas were GREAT I was shocked at the taste of everyones food, it was absolutely stellar. I wanted to go back the day after but theyre closed on mondays! 10/10 experience!
Beyond my expectations!!! The food amazing, the people amazing, you really feel like you’re at the Caribbean and home still the same time!! To be honest being in Louisiana it is really difficult to find a place that’s has its own stamp nothing franchised and not thrown together that’s not on theme of Louisiana. This place was much more than what people say they say it’s great but I say amazing! If you have any time you need to stop here you won’t waste a cent!!
So to be perfectly honest I think this place deserves 3.5 Stars rather than four. The food is amazing some of the Jamaican food in baton rouge hands down. What holds them back from being a four even five star is the service. I really had to wait at least 30 to 40 minutes whether Im dining in or picking up. While the food is well worth the wait its becoming a little disheartening that this is a consistent issue rather than an occasional one. Definitely check this place out if you have some time to kill and want some of the best Jamaican food in town definitely go for the oxtails.
I took my family to Bullfish and the food was delicious and hot to go. The waiter kept checking in on us. We had the best drinks. The food was very very fresh and hot. The owner was very nice and polite. I enjoyed and we will be going back. You have to try the Bahama Mama.
First time, great choice anytime, for me and my sorors a great choice celebrating Black ⚫️ History Month, supporting Black businesses. However; the atmosphere was great & a blend of many cultures. Best Curry dish Ive ever eaten. 😋 A must try, go to, be there. Oh yes the owner came over to introduce herself, such a plus.
This was my daughter suggestion and Im so glad she did I have nothing bad to say about this place but go go go go now and try it now my good was smoking I was so excited to get smoking hot food brought to my table everything was delicious and hot its a must try!!
It was my first time and I will definitely be back!! The food was AMAZING!! We even met the chef. And Devin was an awesome waiter..if your waiter dont hit the angles to get a bomb pic, definitely go to Bullfish!!! We had a table of everything and it all was phenomenal!!!
Food was definitely flavorful but portion sizes small. I tried the Haitian griot complete which came with rice & beans, plantains, marinated pork bites and plantains. The beef patties were a bit dry and missing sauce. Hibiscus drink was sweet.
They mean what they say about waiting for the food because it is fresh! It is so worth it, didn’t even have to wait that long. Got Jamaican beef Pattie’s to start then jerk chicken and jerk shrimp. It was all delicious!!
Stupendous experience!! Seriously, everything about this place is amazing!! The food tasted amazing and very freshly made. The drinks were top notch delicious. The staff was all so very kind and considerate towards my table, and even the owner came out to thank us for dining. Absolute must stop for everyone!!
Just got Carribean nachos with pork and pineapple mango wings. Brian took my order quickly and was extremely nice. The food was awesome! Great presentation and the taste was amazing. A simple meal turned into delight. Recommending to my friends from work since we are all from out of town.
Friendly staff and fun place. Its a little bit of a sportsbar, the food is really good. Its not fancy food, but it is good. I had a burger and was afraid the bun might taste stale because it was slightly hard. But it was really good with a well flavored burger patty. My wife had the veg burger and really enjoyed it as well.
Went for brunch with high expectations left unimpressed. Food felt better suited for Applebees. Everthing seems to be doused in bbq sauce. Even the mojito I ordered was uninspiring. This place has a good Caribbean vibe, just hope the food & drink could keep up with the atmosphere.
OMG, two of my friends and I had the luxury of attending brunch Sunday. The food, service and ambiance was awesome. There is a nice outside dining area that we sat in after we ate. We just didn’t want to leave. One of my friends had an issue with her meal. It just wasn’t to her liking and the manager came over spoke to her and gave her some pointers on how to order her lamb. I took her advice and ordered a plate to go for my husband. The lamb was great. Oh, and she politely asked my friend if she wanted to order something else and she got the tacos. I can’t wait to go back. I want to try the oxtails next time.
I really want to give more than 5 stars! This place is such a gem! The culture + freshness of the cuisine is so thoughtfully curated. Do yourself a favor and go for brunch. Make sure you have the passion fruit mimosa, lamb chops, beef patties, griot, and ESPECIALLY the soup joumou! everything was a hit, but that soup was made with so much love!! It feels like home + the perfect getaway wrapped in one! 10/10
The fact that I couldnt take a pic of my food should mean alot. I had oxtail, rice and peas, and spinach. It was all so good. I will say I didnt appreciate the hostess customer service when I entered, but once I got to the bar. Which was open seating, it was amazing. Love the owners, love the seasoned food, and atmosphere. If you added music, it would be a plus. ❤
It was just okI had high expectations for them from other people telling me about this place. The oxtails were ok.The cabbage was cold and uncooked. The Mac was cold. Very very small portions. Not worth the price. The music was sooo loud. Def not my fave Jamaican spot.
Wow! Thats is the best word to describe the food! Everything we ordered was amazing! Our server was not the best, I mean she was nice but we sat down and asked for the cocktail menu after waiting for 20 minutes we went to the front and asked for some. She never check back to see if we needed something else after we got our food, thats why I give an overall of 4 stars.
Jerk Salmon always just right. The food is prepared fresh every time so its always hot and delicious. Wait staff and owner are always really nice and attentive when we go.
Chef Angel continues to impress me with his blends of herbs and spices. The staff is great because they check to see if you need anything while you are waiting or after you get your meal. Coudos to the entire staff and ownership.
Bullfish is an amazing restaurant. Great food. Friendly staff and amazing management. You definitely have to come try the food . Will definitely be back .
The food and drinks were great and my server Daniella was amazing! She was very attentive and made sure we had what we needed at all times. Good service is hard to come by nowadays, so receiving such great service made our experience so much better. Bravo to her and her manager for doing such a great job! Well definitely be back!!
If I could leave this review without giving one star, I would have. The food was cold and had to be sent back to warm. The drinks were all simple syrup. The manager stated the drinks were made according to their recipe and would not take them off, though they had clearly not been consumed. The manager was extremely rude and attempted to charge my friend who ate none of her food or drink because of the poor presentation and taste. I would advise anyone thinking of visiting this establishment to spend your money elsewhere.
Food was good. Bottomless mimosas....awesome. Server was friendly, but the business is very short staffed.
My sisters and I ate at Bullfish and had the best experience! The owners and staff were so nice and welcoming. We enjoyed every dish we ordered. The food was full of flavor! Chef Angel and Jasmine have brought some much needed Caribbean flare to the restaurant scene. Be sure to save room for dessert and order the bread pudding! So good!
I had the worst experience and I didnt even get to order food! We opted to sit at the bar and decided to order drinks. I ordered a Royal Peach Tea which was to have Crown Royal Peach and Ice tea and my sister ordered the Bullfish. When I received my drink the glass wasnt even half full so naturally I assumed it would be a strong drink because there wasnt much at all in the cup. Sadly I was wrong it tasted like watered down none sweet peach ice tea and nothing else. It tasted as if there was no alcohol in it at all. The Bullfish my sister ordered tasted like only pineapple juice with no alcohol. Therefore we advised the bartender that we didnt like the drinks they were what we expected. We never said anything about removing them from bill. The first thing that came out of his mouth was I cant take them off. Not Im sorry or how can I fix it. We then asked if we could get something else of equal value or at least shots to put in them. He said no we couldnt exchange it but that we could buy shots of liquor. We were shocked to say the least because Ive never been to a restaurant & ordered a drink that I absolutely hated & they didnt offer to fix it in some way. At this moment we request to speak with a manager who turns out had be standing right at the register the entire time yet didnt intervene or say anything. She slides over to us with her hands crossed, slouching on the bar & said in a very dry monotone voice that we cant take the drinks off, he made them according to the menu & youre more than welcome to buy shots. We decided to cash out spend a total of $30 on just drinks that tasted horrible & that we didnt even drink! We left them full on the bar paid the tab & left. My biggest issue is that there was absolutely no form of customer service at all. No attempts to rectify the situation or satisfy the customer at all. We were excited to come to the restaurant and try it. We planned on ordering drinks with an array of entrees as well as appetizers yet we were met with subpar servers with a complete lack of customer service. Needless to say I plan to never return to this establishment again.
Definitely give this restaurant a try. The owner is kind, the servers are nice, and the food is amazing. The only criticism I have is that the food takes a while to come out, but I come here so frequently because every meal is worth the wait.
Envision a beach or the waterside, plus the curry vegetable plate with tostones and you would have a perfect meal for the day. Thats not why Im giving them 5 stars though Haha. The food was very delicious and as it says, its an authentic Carribean and Southern cuisine blended restaurant. We ordered an appetizer of the Carribean nachos with chicken. The sauce was a little too salty for my mom and I, so we ate around the heavy sauced parts. It was very fulfilling, so when we got our actually plates we were a little full 😂Then my mom ordered the chicken tacos, which were great! And I ordered the curry chicken plate with sides of the white jasmine coconut rice and tostones. The tostones were nicely fried and not seasoned which was cool with me, but it shouldve came with some type of house sauce since it wasnt seasoned. The curry with the rice was soooo good. And spicy. Loved it. The downside was that the chicken couldve been done a little bit longer like 15mins. The waitress seemed a little off, like not in the mood to work; she wasnt mean or anything, it was just the energy she exuded. Otherwise, I definitional would come back and try the curry vegetable plate, more tostones, and their bar.
We had a wonderful experience here. The food was great! My niece liked the vegan burger, they had gluten free for me and my aunt has a onion allergy and we were all accommodated. The staff was awesome and friendly. The drinks are amazing and pretty. I will return
My girlfriend and I drove 10 hours from Greenville, SC on my birthday all the way down to Baton Rouges Bullfish to try their Caribbean Jerk Vegan burger. We also got an order of hot pepper cauliflower bites. This was my first time trying Caribbean food, and I must say that it was absolutely amazing! Totally worth the drive... To make it even better, we got to meet Chef Angel himself, as well as his wonderful wife- we talked about their business start-up, Haitian food and culture, music, life in general. We didnt leave without grabbing a bottle of Chef Angels signature Jerk Sauce. He was so cool, I gave him a copy of my album as a token of appreciation. The food and atmosphere was great. What an awesome experience this was- we will definitely be going back! :)
Terrific Caribbean/Southern Louisiana fusion cuisine. You cant go wrong with any dish. Might be the only place in town with conch fritters and they are huge! The flavors smack you right in the face. Try the sampler appetizer to get a feel for the dishes. Go out of your comfort zone and try the curry goat or oxtail. Nice outdoor seating and they use the planters as a garden.
What can I say! My new favorite restaurant. Love the food, customer service and the atmosphere. Yall must check it out! #bullfish
Amazing food and even better service! Family owned and operated. Very authentic. We will definitely return soon.
Excellent fresh food, best healthy meals I have found around the area. Staff very friendly and the happy hour for two hours showcasing local beer/cocktails/rums was a nice touch also. I will be back again!
I’d heard Chef Angel was good, but I always reserve judgment until I try something for myself. After today: zero reservations. His strawberry Italian dressing was perfect. The grilled snapper with shrimp was perfectly seasoned. And do you know how long it’s been since I had homemade key lime pie, especially one that perfectly balanced the sweet and tangy? To celebrate Father’s Day, they even brought in an electric violinist. Had no idea such even existed. Perfect atmosphere to enjoy lunch with family and friends.Happy I went. Already looking forward to going again.
