Historical society & museum featuring exhibits, artifacts & programs documenting area history.
My best friend and I love history museums and were looking forward to getting to know Buffalos history. The BHM was a beautiful museum and the staff was accommodating. I appreciate that they recognized the Indigenous people in and around the Greater Buffalo Area. While American and Canadian history is painful to learn about, its important we know it so we can be better contributors to our communities. BHM does a very good job at engaging its visitors with art and creativity.PS. There was a wedding happening on the day we went. Its definitely a beautiful place with lovely gardens for an event.
Nice venue on history and culture set in a beautiful part of Buffalo.
Dont miss the museum if you ask in town.
This museum has something for everyone
Cool place to educate kids about some important parts of Buffalo history.
Had tickets from a special event so unsure of ticket cost as it was for 2 events. (My tickets were comp tickets)
It was fun. Did origami, gold press and scavenger hunt at the train station. They had boat rides and plenty of other things to do. Great for a family outing.
My daughter and I attended the Cherry Blossom Festival. What made it remarkable was certainly all the beautiful blossoms but the diverse people attending the festival with us.
Gorgeous day, blossoms in full bloom
This museum is smaller than we expected but the exhibits were an interesting mix of stories highlighting local culture and the first settlers of the land. You can see everything in an hour. The building itself is historic in its own right, built in 1901 for the Pan-American expo and is listed as a national historic landmark. There is a small gift shop but no food outlet.
Awesome, wonderful museum. All about our local history in Erie County and before!
Boring!! Barely any exhibits. Not worth the visit. Being its a buffalo history museum expected more buffalo type exhibits.
As a Buffalo history fanatic, I found it very disappointing. A lot of wasted space in a gorgeous building, not a lot of attraction. Learned a lot more and saw alot more just by going on Google.
The Buffalo History Museum is a neoclassical symphony. When cherry blossom season starts ,gleaming through the year, until the thereafter. Each time the sunset clouds appear richer.Where silence falls, under the muses read reality. In their narrative that echoes, on the verge, the calls of spring, serene internal powers.Heavy handed small stories, all against a shimmering background .Withstanding all worlds, recent doorsteps ringing, a dreamy theme, to be told. The sheen from the visible moon, glimmering like colorful glass, in the Japanese gardens .Sparkling the coloring, of developing works. In the shadows of saints, soundlessly nostalgic repetition. The pleasant occurrence of poetry.
A great place. Be sure to read all of the writing. A great mixture of modern and old time history. The architecture is stunning and is part of the history.
Cool promotion going on. It’s a nice little visit. Loved the Sports History section. They even have a part where you can do your own voice commentary for some of Buffalo’s best sports moments.
Great place to see a real Japanese Sakura trees, they were in full bloom this week
Very beautiful, there are several cherry blossom trees next to the museum, it is so beautiful!
To be honest, I did not exactly go to the history museum. I was at their beautiful gardens. It is by far one of my top things to do every year. It is gorgeous and the walk through the park is great. If you want it to be a quiet visit go before 10... on the weekends especially. After that it is bustling with people. Quite eclectic too all ages, relaxing, biking, skating, jogging, playing cards, picnicking. A symbol of our great city.
I was early for the chery blossoms so will go back. First trip to Japanese garden. Awesome. Museum was closed.
I wanted to love the Buffalo History Museum, however I was very disappointed. I hadnt been there in a few years and it only has gotten worse. There were very limited displays and one of the largest wasnt even working. Jamming a bunch of small memorabilia in a case is not an exhibit. So much of Buffalos history isnt even displayed. Buffalos role in the Erie canal, underground railroad, and revolutionary war are barely mentioned. Also hardly a mention of Buffalos architecture, melting pot of cultures, and Buffalos importantance in 19th century society. The reason for the building even being there, the Pan American Expo, didnt even have a display
This is a nice place. But the building is small and the exhibitions are limited. Not many things to view. 45 mins is plenty for it. Not a must go place for Buffalo, not bad either.
Amazing history here amd so beautiful
Nice museum of local Buffalo history
Beautiful exhibits. Very informative. Will definitely go again.
Wonderful museum highlighting the history of the Buffalo area.
So rich in history and I absolutely loved it and the layout of the exhibits were beautiful
Didnt know there was a Japanese garden back there.
Beautiful historical building right by Delaware Park. Very interesting, you can learn so much about the amazing history of Buffalo here. Admission is affordable, and its easy to spend a few hours looking at the exhibits. I always learn something new here
Its a small sized museum about the City of Buffalos local history. Its not amazing but its a nice visit. The admission price is reasonable.
Holly Hannah have you seen this place. You are walking or driving by and you feel that you are in Rome! This place is over the top fancy. Just looking at the building is enough. I dont think I could go inside. It would not be a good idea. I may have an orgasm or something!
Beautiful building! 3 floors of history that is well worth the read. So much to see inside and out. Highly recommend
Amazing trip!! Came in when it was kind of slow, front staff was very kind and helpful. They helped us with a childrens scavenger hunt that was going on. Everyone there seemed so kind and passionate about history. I learned so much about Buffalos history that I never knew before. I was even approached by a history buff that gave me his own mini tour and my son and I learned so much!I cannot begin to explain how my child and I enjoyed the trip. Kind and helpful employees everywhere I turned. Each floor had something more interesting than the next, great time. Highly recommend!!
Great job with the museum. Love the look and feel. Interesting exhibits on the history of the region. It was fun when I was a kid, even better now, my kids 7 & 5 loved the exhibits. Will definitely visit again in the near future!
Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Many one of a kind items. Everyone should visit!
very disappointed in my visit.. I needed to come thru the handicapped door, waited for the elevator for about 20 min as they were moving furniture. paid my fee and only then was told that the floor was being set up for a wedding, and only 1/2 exhibits available.. went to 2nd floor only to find limited access to only 1/2 of the floor as again blocked by tables...what I could access didnt real express what I thought the buffalo area is and was about. no erie canal, steel mills, war of 1812, automotive, etc.my daughter tried to get a response from the museum management with no response....
Party on the Portico is a fabulous Friday evening in the summer. Great music venue while overlooking Mirror Lake and sipping on beer or wine. Take a moment and tour the museum and learn about what shaped Buffalo over the years.
It is a good museum for kids and is geared mostly to younger children and buffalo sports fans.I would have liked more on the actual history of Buffalo.
Wonderful WW1 exhibit! All in all a great place for a history lover or just a regular old joe!!
Dont miss this this is one of the best values there is in Buffalo if youre there for a visit beautiful exhibit go and enjoy it recommended stop visiting we surely enjoyed it and very affordable
The Buffalo History Museum is a beautifully designed building overlooking Delaware Park. This is a true gem to see the history of the city, and it is great to see all the unqiue showcases on display. Admission is very fair considering the size of the exhibits, which is great for any organization promoting Buffalo culture. I think the museum is a must-see if visiting the area.
If you are doing a Book Report for your school project on history in the Buffalo area, then you must check out the Buffalo History Museum. There is a ton of information there.
It is one of the best thing to see in Buffalo especially if you are new to American culture. They have three floors where they have different things to showcase at each floor. Like trains, war history, sports etc.
Prices are pretty legit. They have a discount for students which is $5 and $10 for adults. There are some nice exhibits to visit. I recommend going out with friends or even family. In my opinion, worth the time and money.

Price if fair. Docents are friendly. Love the history of the building itself. When I was there, there were a number of unused rooms. They really could (and should expand). Still, you have to love the "disciples clock". That alone is worth the visit.
We went initially for the auto show and ended up viewing the museum exhibits for free as well as the Japanese Gardens on our way out
Spectacular museum in a beautiful building and setting. Staff kind, lots of interesting exhibits on Buffalos past. Interesting to see what Buffalo was like in its "gilded age" of industrialization.
Badly displayed and labeled exhibits , buttons that did not work to activate any of the displays , a general air of disrepair , few real displays compared to all the possibilities given Buffalos rich history, and more at the level of a small town historical society than a city museum.Overall kind of a sad place...
We recently visited in April to see the cherry blossoms in the Japanese garden. It was beautiful. Everyone was out biking, jogging, or strolling. Some people were picnicking on a blanket. Its just a beautiful place to be.
