20 Lower Bridge St, Usher's Quay, Dublin, D08 WC64, Ireland, Dublin
Meeting place for historic rebels, this brass-filled, lantern-lit pub hosts live music each night.
This is a bar is a must if youre visiting Dublin as it is the oldest bar in the city (it is rumored that Robinhood himself drank here. Many different rooms to check out with multiple bars. Live music. Menu is small with traditional Irish food however the shepherds pie is vegetarian wished they served traditional shepherds pie maybe with a vegetarian option. I went with the bangers and mash which was pretty good and my friend got the guiness stew which she said was really good. The service was a little on the slow side. All in all this is a good place and the experience of drinking at the oldest bar in Dublin is worth it.
I visited the place a raining day (!early in October.I was surprised by the many different rooms available starting from the entrance yard! It was lunch time and many people were all over the place. I sat at the bar and was served my red ale very quickly. I ordered bangers & mash. While waiting for my dish I enjoyed my pint looking around the large room walls which were fuly covered with pictures, newspaper clips and various memorabilia. The furniture was dark colored in contrast to the red painted walls. Ceiling was coverd with flags of various countries. The personnel was very friendly all the time. The dish was delicious. I had a good time during my stay. I promissed myself to come back for the night live music show.
Wow! What an experience! We started with a couple of beers outside before working out way inside for food and later enjoyed the band.We drank, we ate and we danced and the whole experience was spectacular. I will definitely come back next time I am in the area.
If you have a longer layover in Dublin, this is a fabulous place to come. Take the Dublin Express to Aston Quay (about 45 minutes and 8 Euros), cross over the bridge and walk along the river 15 minutes to the pub (or you can take the bus to Ushers Quay and be a two-minute walk away!). It is delicious Irish comfort food and arrives at your table almost instantly. In addition, all the best, traditional Irish beers are on tap. Beautiful decor, great history, great service, and you can take the bus back! Highly recommend.
Very comfortable pub. Music is in a separate room if you want to only go for a drink.Food is only served indoors which is fair enough. Service is quick and helpful.Wouldn’t recommend the fish and chips as it’s pretty bland. The Bangers & Mash was great though.
Cool Irish restaurant / bar. Plenty of seating but still gets very busy. Food was delicious and is traditional Irish food. Can’t go wrong here.
Food: 5/5 pretty good for “bar food”. The banger were delicious along side the seafood chowder. The batter on the fish and chips were good along with the chips being nice and crunchy. The only non-alcoholic drink they had was Heineken. They had a few other standard Irish beers on tap.Cost: 4/5 a little pricier for the food, but to be expected from a tourist spot.Environment: 3/5 nice location right by the river and cozy overall, but it seemed very hectic. It was a seat yourself style, but there were people literally sitting at a table before they previous party finished paying. Called the place before and there’s no option to reserve a table. If there was a lead host/hostess for indoor dining it would be much nicer. Outside though is great for just chilling and drinking.
Oldest Pub in Dublin.Amazing food and atmosphere.Got the bacon and cabbage. (Recommend)You need to find your own table or seat.Food comes quick.
Food was great. 2 orders of fish and chips & 1 Beef & Guinness stew. The stew was quit tasty, and the brown bead yummy. The fish was flakey, the batter crispy. The tarter sauce had a nice dill flavor. Service was good, and the food came out quickly, and HOT. Definitely recommend. The only down side, you may have to wait for your check.
Surprisingly not that difficult to find a seat on a Saturday night. It was packed at 8pm, but upon return at 10:30pm, it felt like most patrons were there for a quick pint to soak up the historical site, definitely easier to get a seat after the dinner rush was over. Its pretty amazing to sit deep in the old bar and imagine the history and events that have filled those rooms for hundreds of years! The Guiness was the best pour Ive ever had!
My food was great but my husbands fish and chips were very greasy and lacking in flavor. Service was okay, not great. The building was interesting and cool to look at.
Love this oldest pub in the city. Steeped in history and the walls covered with mementos from guests past. Friendly staff and a nice selection of whiskies, wines and beers. A lot of Americans seem to frequent this place. Just had a drink so cant say anything about the food. Well worth the visit.
The Brazen head was a fun stop as a tourist. Good little pub where you seat yourself. Fast friendly service with standard pub food.
We got the Chicken Wings (you now what that looks like, now towards the left), Guinness Beef stew, Veg Shepards pie, Goat cheese salad and Bangers & mash. All of them were incredible. Lovely music. Great people. We were probably the youngest but still had fun. Apparently one of the oldest pubs in Ireland.Extra points for the Bangers & Mash!Highly recommend!
Slow, not so good service, but amazing food and a location well worth seeing. We had the Guinness stew 6 years ago and again a couple of months ago and it was just as delicious both times.
GO HERE!!!!I cannot stress this enough, they have THE BEST IRISH STEW. I was absolutely blown away by this. The customer service was good, the food came quickly, the price was reasonable, the atmosphere was great and as a solo traveler I met many interesting people here who were locals or traveling and they were all friendly and welcoming. Its also the oldest pub in Dublin so you should definitely add it to your list of places to visit. Would 100% visit again.
Awesome pub full of lots of history. This place was great. Since 1653 it has been perfecting the perfect pour of a pint of Guinness! Can’t wait to make a trip back.
Great place very crowded but succeeded to have a table. Very lucky 🍀Our waitress was so kind and friendly. The service was very quick and food was very good.
We had dinner here and a few pints. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Food was nice. We where lucky enough to have fabulous weather so sat outside on the terras.
An amazing place to share a meal. Wish I could have stayed the night. What a dish I had, fish and chip. Love the history! Such a step back in time. Would love to visit again. Thanks much!
Pretty cool experience. The waiter was pretty nice and helpful. We had some Guinness and wings. Everything was great! The only downside is from all the people smoking and that’s pretty annoying.
Went here with my husband and aunts while visiting Ireland. I decided to try something different and got the cabbage and bacon. It was delicious as was the cider. The service was great. The atmosphere was fun.
Knowing the history of the place, I absolutely had to go and Im glad I did! The atmosphere and staff were both lovely. The food arrived quickly and when I say good - I dream of that sauce! Absolutely delicious and the drinks were cold and hit the spot. Absolutely recommend if youre in Dublin!!
Best fish and chips I had while in Ireland. Fun place with history. All the food was good and service polite. If I ever make it back to Dublin, I would definitely eat here again!!
The Irish stew is not made from lamb anymore, but its made of beef. Its still really tasty, and paired with a pint of Guinness is one of the best things to have in this city. The fact that this is the oldest bar in the world makes that combination even more delightful. The staff here are extremely helpful and friendly. If youre planning to come here, do so early, because at 1930hs is already full on a week day.I highly recommend the experience, and its affordable
This was on my husbands list of pubs he wanted to visit on our 2 weeks in Ireland. Very cool to sit and try and imagine what it was like so many years ago. Great food along with an amazing history and atmosphere. Great time
Ill admit that we went here because its the oldest pub in Dublin. I half expected a mediocre experience but everything was wonderful. The courtyard/garden is only for drinks. We wanted dinner so I asked a server if there was a table. Its open seating so you just grab a table and one was available. Service was great. The food was outstanding. I would definitely return.
We met our wives here after a Guinness Storehouse brewery tour. And what a little gem it is! Lots of history, great layout, great decor and furthermore very, very nice beer!We didnt try the food, alas, as we had limited time.A friend who visits Dublin a lot speaks highly of this place too.
Absolutely delicious! This is definitely a place to visit in Dublin. It has live music almost everyday, the place has a terrace and different sections/rooms, so the music bands might set up in different parts of the restaurant. The staff was really attentive and nice.
Wonderful place. Love the patches on the wall from firefighters and police from all over the world!! Delicious food and beer.
This was our first pub in Dublin and one of our favorites. Patrons seemed to be mostly tourists, probably due to its fame as being the oldest pub in Dublin. The Guinness here is on point and service wasn’t amazing but definitely fair. There are several rooms to the pub along with an outdoor area so don’t get discouraged if you don’t find seating at the first area you see. I had the beef and Guinness stew which was very good. Make sure to explore the rooms and read the writings on the walls.
Nice oldest Pub in Dublin, Prices for Beers are cheaper than the Temple Bar Area, nice Location, the personal lack at attention a little, we sit outside, other tables get service but we get ignored all time, so I go inside and orderedy drinks directly at the Bar. So I only can give 4 stars.
Oldest pub. It has its charm with the stone entrance and all the history stuck to the walls. Literally! Service was fair but would only recommend for a quick pint as you read everything that has been written on the walls. Many different rooms with their own stories to tell. Live music was nice.
The Dublin experience we were searching for. We enjoyed the simple fish and chips along with the stew. We thought the stew and fish n chips was better here than most of Dublin yet prices here we more reasonable than most for the area. Loved the unique rooms and the age of the bar is a cool bonus. Great and friendly service. Warm atmosphere.
Amazing meal and service at The Brazen Head. Best Guinness and beef stew Ive ever had. Service was also top notch, food came out fast and drinks were quickly replenished. Would highly recommend!
Lovely traditional irish pub with full of tourists. Probably me and my friend were the only local haha. But I didnt mind it. Its the oldest pub, of course everyone wants to try it! The staffs were lovely. Food was good too. Their Guiness tasted a bit different from other pubs in a good way (my humble goal is to try all the pubs in Dublin). It felt like flat-ish but very flavorful and thick? I enjoyed it there but there were so many tourists we had to get away haha
A historical pub with lots of energy and good vibes! Great flavorful food and service. I ordered the savory Beef Stew and washed it down with a pint of Rockshore Irish Ale. Ill definitely be visiting this pub again when I return to Dublin.
Four of us went for the Story Telling dinner and it was Fabulous. Our Story Teller was Ollie and he really made the evening fun with his stories and his songs. We enjoyed the history and the food was wonderful too.
Been here a few times now when friends and family have been over, always a very good experience. The Guinness is great and decently priced. The food is very very good, especially the chicken burger!! Live music on all the time as well, has a very traditional feel to it when Im sure its full of tourists. Quirky place made up of smaller rooms. Highly recommend.
-Dissatisfied with the service that attended us during; Sunday 3 April at 15-16h. Unfriendly, unhelpful...+The restaurant is very nice, possibly the decoration is what attracts the most attention. Fairly full.+The food is good quality, reasonable price.
The history behind this pub is worth the visit. Being able to walk around and take a look at the history is great if it’s not too busy. The Irish beef stew and fish and chips are good. Definitely a tourist location and the staff knows it, but buy a pint and enjoy the atmosphere.
Amazing fish and chips! I used to live in Hawaii, and thought they had the best fish and chips. I was wrong. The Brazen Head has the best Ive ever had, along with a house made tartar sauce. They also have a good selection of Irish beers.
We visited the Brazen Head on the Saturday of St Patricks weekend & to say that it was busy would be an understatement. The Irish rugby match was also on. We were lucky enough to find a small table upstairs but were advised that due to the weekend that was in it the table wouldnt be available to us all evening. The poor waiting staff told us that although theyd served nearly 600 covers by 2pm that day it was quieter than the day before!. We were also advised that they werent serving drinks upstairs so if we wanted drinks we needed to go downstairs to get them & bring them up ourselves. I ordered the chicken burger & my friends ordered the fish & chips and the Guinness steak stew... in fact theyd been talking about it for the evening. Were definitely planning another visit but on a quieter day.
We have a few brazen heads here in Cape Town so was keen to visit the original Irish pub. Was not disappointed. Food and drink was wonderful and was even lucky enough to watch a trio of local musicians playing the fiddle and guitar to what can only be described as a warm and loving crowd. Definitely worth the visit.
Lovely pub with lots of atmosphere. Even though itd be a great place for tourists to visit, it doesnt seem like a stereotypical tourist trap. Lots of character, very old Irish pub vibes. The staff were very attentive and the drinks were good. Guinness 10/10. Cant wait to visit again.
This pub is history. But don’t let the old dog deceive you. It’s got a great beer selection, top notch food, and awesome servers.
Best meal I had on Dublin, and I was living it up! Get the mussels! And the Irish Stew was amazing. Plus its an 800 year old Irish pub that was on the wrong side of the Liffey, with all the workers.
This place lived up to the expectations. The reviews are true. Was well worth the visit. We got their best selling Guiness stew and it was mind blowing. Would recommend. Bookings are also recommended. Closest bus stop is merchants quay. Few minutes walk from there.
Seemingly popular with tourists and locals, this historic pub offered a warm welcome and efficient service. Food was of a good quality with a range of decent beers, all reasonably priced. A busy pub, but theres plenty of space and some external seating.
The best burger of our lives was found here today. It tasted like a Salisbury steak and it was huge. Between Malt vinegar on a salad the creamiest coleslaw to crunchy salty chips, fizzy Cider that was almost like drinking a sparkling apple juice. I found some deep love for this cute old Pub.To the chef Steve, you deserve all the praise in the world for your amazing cooking skills. If I could rate this pub a hundred I would.💚🍀Our waiter was also the kindest waiter we ever had. The man who poured our beer and cider, you are a true Saint for telling us about how Steve doesnt get the praise he deserves.I so recommend this place above any restaurant in Dublin.
