Provisions from the on-site butcher case are on the meaty American menu at this sleek, woody spot.
Great food, great service. They need to add more tables as they are growing and getting turned away due to longer then needed waits has been hampering my interest in returning. The online reservation system has been broken for a while - 2nd time I showed up because it said they arent busy and wasnt taking reservations and was told it would be 1 hr wait. Please consider adding more tables and fixing your online reservation service for your loyal customers or you may lose them in the future.
Very HAPPY Happy Hour! What a great which started with Jeremy, our excellent server. Deep understanding of the menu, gave us time to enjoy our cocktails and never felt rushed. The sidewalk table was so comfortable and well spaced, the weather was beautiful, and I was so surprised to see all the activity from people of all ages. Now for the drink and food. I started with an Old Fashioned and it was excellent! My wife had the chardonnay also very nice. We started with the flatbread special that had braised short ribs, then the meatballs with polenta and then the beet salad. Great combination. We finished with the peach/blueberry cobbler. I am looking forward to going back and trying more dishes.
The pulled pork sandwich was much too salty, and the fries were saltier than expected, too. The block salad was drenched in sauce (get dressing on the side if you dont want a puddle), but otherwise good. The service was excellent!
One of the best steaks you can get in Webster Groves and surrounding area. Their customer service is what really makes this place shine. The servers are always armed with valuable knowledge pertaining to cuts, beers, and seasonal items on the menu. Dont get me started on their cast iron cookie.... its a must have. I am practically drooling over it now.I will be back.
This place is nothing special. I dont understand all the 5-star reviews, and what kind of pallates these reviewers have. I have been to many restaurants around St. Louis, and I can honestly, without any doubt, say that this place is mediocre at best. The atmosphere is zero. There is no decor whatsoever, its very bland and blah. Customer service is mediocre, as well, I didnt feel particularly welcomed; it felt like they didnt care at all if I was there or not. My waitress didnt smile once. I had a Mojito, which TBH I had much better Mojito around St. Louis for less money. My husband had a glass of red blend, and I didnt ask how it was because I feel like you can rarely go wrong with blend. He had the Block Burger and roasted beet salad. I had Whipped Feta and the Block salad. Block burger: soggy bottom bun (tip for a chef- put a piece of lettuce on the bottom to prevent your bun from getting so soggy), meat was a little smelly, unseasoned and dry even tho the burger was cooked medium. It feels as if the chef used 95/5 blend from a cheap store. Roasted beets salad was exceptional, and that was the only thing that was actually good. My Whipped Feta felt like it was whipped with water. Unseasoned vegetables were thrown on the top of the feta whip, and I didnt understand that at all. I would never ever order it again, ever, and I dont understand how someone can ruin feta cheese so badly. My salad (Blocklooked like a child has thrown it together. The ingredients didnt really mesh well together, and the dressing was dreadful. All in all, I doubt I will be back. I would have to be extremely hungry, and would honestly much rather eat at StakenShake.Funny thing, Im a big foodie, but a small person who generally prefers small bites but these bites better have a punch (I wont waste my calorie intake on just anything). When I eat everyone around me tends to get hungry, when I eat its my food and me and nothing can come between that. Tonight, I took a few bites of my food at The Block and suddenly wasnt hungry anymore. My husband said: "Youre not even eating anything, its so sad". I dont think hes ever seen me like that with my food. That should tell you enough.
Wow, just wow! The food here was so freakin delicious. We ordered the Farmstead Foods Chicken, Flash Fried Brussel Sprouts and Pork & Dumplings. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Our food order came out super fast. I highly enjoyed the experience at The Block and I’m sure you will to.
This place is amazing! Pork Chop and Burger were just right! Prices are comparable with other restaurants in the same category in the area.
This is a very customer service oriented restaurant that is clean and serves very good food. We had the brisket sandwich and mac and cheese with short ribs. The brisket was amazingly tender though perhaps less lean than ideal, but thats a tough balancing act. The nac and rubs was wonderful. The meat was tender, moist and delicious. Service was fast and staff was friendly and professional. It was great to see couples, kids, old young...everyone having fun and enjoying meals together. Tables are nicely spaced and there is even nice outside seating, with staff caring for everyone. Prices are really good and servings are generous. The water was also good.
The waiters are very friendly and concerned. Helped out with everything we needed. Thumbs up.
Enjoy a tasty meal at this place. Plus the service i loved it
Good choices for vegetarian and vegan food. Excellent ambience and vibe. The service was also refined.
Great menu and wine list! Love the atmosphere and vibe of the place.
Highly recommend this spot for a beautiful dinner experience. Every element is top notch from the moment you walk in.
They have great food, great service, good waiters, the environment is great for eating your food.
Food was delicious! We had a good time and will definitely be back.
The customer service is great! If youre famished, run here! Theyll serve you almost immediately!
Very ideal place for family relaxation, meals & meetings just but to mention a few.
Simple and amazing food , chef manage to accommodate all of our requests
The best for all, both adults and children. Its so much fun to be there.
Enjoyed our impromptu lunch date.⭐ServiceA+ everyone was attentive⭐FoodVery good. The chef was able to accommodate my dietary restrictions and sensitivity to oils. I ordered the the skirt steak (mediumcooked well and great flavor.Would love to go back and try the skillet cookie.
Amazing upscale American fare. Great prices and portions, fast service, nice drinks. The apple butter topped pork chop was out of this world.
Service was great! Cozy atmosphere. The food had ups and downs. Our biggest complaint is that there was way too much salt on the salmon and garlic fries. The fries also werent fresh. The fish dish was a bit pricey. On the plus side, the salmon was cooked perfectly, and we got a decent amount. The burgers were good and cooked well. The veggies were all good. The cobbler was just okay. Wed probably come back but try some different dishes next time.
The salmon is DIVINE! It melts in your mouth and is presented beautifully with tomato jelly and scallions on top. There are mushrooms too. I would rate it 6 stars if I could.
Yesterday we ordered 4 of the family style (serves 6entrees including the mac and cheese, beet salad, beef sliders and dumplings for a family bday celebration. The food was excellent and the online ordering was seamless. The staff was also very pleasant! We will definitely return!
We had a $100.00 gift card and were so excited after hearing good things.Bought the jalapeno brats that were dry and w/o flavor, the skin was tough as well. We also purchased 2 ribeyes that were mediocre and 2 bacon jams that were OK. We had $6 left so I picked out some seasoning, havent tried it yet, but we wont be back.
In all fairness, the steak did say it came with steak sauce, but I assumed it would be on the side. I’ve never gotten a high end steak laying in steak sauce... the sauce was good. No idea about the steak because I couldn’t taste it. The Mac and cheese was great!
The Block is one of my favorites! The burger is outstanding. The steak (and sauceis perfectly prepared. But if you need comfort in the cold weather, the Pork & Dumplings is one of the most perfectly balanced dishes I have ever had!
This place is great. One of my favorite places to go to for dinner dates with my wife. Food is always delicious. Their specials are always new, interesting, and amazing. The staff is super knowledgeable about the food and also take my wifes AIP food requests with care. Fantastic experience all around.
Bring your appetite; large portion sizes. Great service. Fun Butcher Block martinis (if you like gin try their Disco Devil 10). The Roasted Local Apple Salad is great. Steaks and pork chops are hefty portion sizes and a cooked superbly. The pork chop with the sweet potato hash is fantastic. Their burgers are excellent also. Probably the best french fries in town. The flash fried brussel sprouts are good, but they could be better if they had a little less oil on them.
Great flavors on every dish. Pizza was particularly good, the crust is just perfect. Make your reservation in advance, the place is packed pretty much all the time. Well worth the trip though.
I visited The Block with my boyfriend and his family last night and we were unfortunately all very disappointed. Our server was very polite and gave us two recommendations from the menu - the Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Pork Dumplings. It took us well over an hour to get our food. It wasnt crowded at all - maybe just four or five small tables of guests along with ours. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich at the servers recommendation. Im pretty sure that they actually served me a Short Rib sandwich instead of pulled pork because it didnt look or taste anything like pulled pork (and short rib meat was featured as a flatbread special on the menu). It was very bland and looked like pot roast. I had my boyfriend try it also and he was very confused and agreed it didnt taste anything like pulled pork. I asked the server for some BBQ sauce and he looked at me like I had five heads. He brought out a tiny ramekin of BBQ sauce that seemed to be thrown together in the kitchen and it was pretty much straight vinegar. I used it anyway to try and make my sandwich better (no luck). Out of the five people at our table, only my boyfriend was okay with his pork dumplings and he will eat and be happy with pretty much anything. The other person who ordered the pork dumplings hated them. Someone else in our party ordered the pork chop and another the burger. We all agreed that the food lacked flavor and we could go somewhere else and have a much better meal for much less. They charged us $3 for a teeny tiny ramekin of garlic aioli to eat with our fries. Thats just silly. Its a cool little spot with a nice atmosphere but not worth another visit. Its sad when the best item on the menu is the french fries but that was the case here. The garlic aioli was good too.. but, oh yeah, $3?! Ummm, yeah, nope. Bummer.
One of our favorites in town. Because they use natural ingredients and grass fed steaks this was always a place we could hit up if were were trying to do keto or Whole 30. I always go with the ribeye steak and fries, but get the sauce on the side.Rarely have we seen the place packed with a line, but we may just be going at awkward times. Ambiance is pretty chill. They have a solid draft beer selection. Service has always been good to great. Parking mostly off-street with a smallish lot behind it, but the side block right next to the place usually always has spots.
An interesting butcher/restaurant with very tasty food. The interior is modern with a cool vibe and outdoor space. We got the 3 ribs as an appetizer. Kind of an odd choice for an appetizer, but so delicious. They are huge and they fall off the bone. For entrees, the pork chop with a sausage/asparagus hash and the most amazing whipped potatoes along with the chicken and roasted potatoes. Overall, a very great experience with some meat that makes you feel good where it came from. Will definitely go back.
Great food, exceptional service, and good location. Our party of 5 enjoyed everything we ordered. My boys raved about the brussel sprouts and that never happens! Theres a case in front where you can order cuts to go. Highly recommend.
I sat at the bar and received prompt & attentive service. The crispy brussel sprouts were so delicious. Happy hour includes different appetizer selections and $6 cocktails. Id totally go back!
I have a lot of food intolerances, so restaurants can be tricky to navigate, but the Block team handled it amazingly. Chef came and sat at our table to talk though my options to make sure I got what I needed, and the food was perfect. Great, friendly service, very accommodating kitchen, and delicious food. Well be back!
Very good experience. The Butchers Board was awesome as an appetizer. I had the fish special and my wife had the pork dumplings. Amazing. Desert was well done, too. The waiter made good suggestions, too. Also, nice beer menu and drink selection. Well be going back.
Great Atmorsphere, delicious meat. We ordered the burger and it was juicy and had great flavor. Everything else downhill. When we walked in no one greeted us for a bit even though it was very slow. We had to wait to be sat even though half the tables were empty in the whole restaurant and 5 people working. I ordered a burger with bacon, ketchup and also an entree salad. It was 45 mins before our food came out. The burger did not have bacon nor a side of ketchup and the salad was soggy. Both were small portions for the price. When we asked about the bacon he said he would simply take it off the bill but did not offer to bring out new bacon. Another 8-10 mins to run the CC. Someone called after us "thanks" but we were already out the door...again, 5 people working the floor and only 5 tables sat by the time we left. We probably will not be back.
A bit slow on service, but worth the wait. Excellent food, the Amish chicken is so tender and juicy, and the Mac n cheese with bacon. . . .so good! They do not accept reservations, so go early or late on weekends, avoid 6pm.
The steak was worth the wait. Literally, a melt in your mouth experience. Actually, the wait wasnt that bad for considering it was Saturday evening and during the Webster Groves Blues and Jazz Festival. Maybe a little bit pricey, but I would still recommend it to my friends.
Incredibly tasty food, with richly flavored meats. I grabbed a sandwich on special and was pleased. Their fries were surprisingly also top notch.
Always had good food and drinks here. The burger, open face sandwich, pork chop and pork and dumplings are all delicious. Cant wait to try others. Also a good atmosphere. Kid friendly at earlier hours and theyll seat you towards to back or more intimate and theyll seat you closer to the front, or so Ive seen. Never had to wait long and service has been good. Also the bus boy ran legos out to the car that my son forgot...Yup, 5 Stars
My dinner experience started with a 1 hour wait to get our food followed by the worst steak I’ve ever been served. Seriously I so wanted this to be a great restaurant but it disappointed in many ways. Starting with the size of the steak. Unlike most great steak places that prepare a thick steak for grilling, this place served me a $36 dollar steak that was barely a 1/2 “ thick. For a place that prides itself on doing their own butchering, this is unforgivable. But the real disgrace was the taste which was dry, over cooked and tough. I wound up eating just the broccoli which was over seasoned but I was starving and didn’t want to wait another hour for a “do over” steak. They took the uneaten steak off my bill but no one including the manager seemed too upset about it. I’m not sure anyone even apologized. Stay clear of this place.
Really liked the atmosphere of the place and the unique specials. Seasonal cocktails were great and if you like the cut off meat you had, you can take it home with you from the butcher shop.
We had a very nice family dinner tonight - requested by my son for his birthday. Immediate seating as promised. Imaginative food that was reasonably priced given the quality. Burger, steak, and trout were all well prepared and satisfying. Entrees were a little bit salty for my taste but seasonings and sides were artful. Melon basil sorbet was delightful. Very comfortable dining room. Extremely pleasant staff. Recommend.
The atmosphere was warm and cozy with a hint of refinement. Its a great place for a date or a nice evening out. They staff couldnt have been more compliant. Very friend and knowledge. They are butchers shop so vegans need not come. Offerings were exceptional. The brussel sprouts appetizer are excellent, not healthy considering the bacon and bacon grease but they were brilliant! The flatbread with chicken and pork special were absolutely delicious. The Block is definitely a step up from the chain restaurants and below a restaurant in clayton. It is perfectly situated in Webster Groves. I high recommend.
Amazing food full of flavor!!! We ordered multiple items and there was not a single item that we did not like.
There is no doubt that the food at The Block is good. I wouldnt say the steak is great but the white wine pork was wonderful if youre into heavy food. My biggest complaint is you cannot make reservations, not even for a large party which resulted in almost a 2 hour wait. On top of that we had a birthday in which case I brought a 5 inch cake surrounded by cupcakes. I asked them to keep it in the kitchen for me only to be told that if you bring in a cake there is a 2.50 per person fee similar to a corkage fee as if I brought in a bottle of wine. Seriously, there was no effort required on anyones part for me to bring this cake in. Even if they didnt store it in the back while we ate there is still a $2.50 per person fee. I hardly think I should have to pay an additional $25.00 to bring in a $12.00 cake after we just spent over $500 eating there. This policy will have me not returning to this restaurant, like a said the food is good, not great.
Tonight was my first visit to The Block. I heard they had great steak. We arrived and were told the wait was about 40 minutes. After 25 minutes I asked how much longer. The hostess and her trainee, who were both around 19 years old, said another 40 minutes to an hour. I said we were told initially the wait was 40 minutes. They both said no we said the wait was 40 to 90 minutes. For a place that doesnt even have a price on the menu for steak, this was most disappointing. We left.
This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants! The drinks are amazing and the food is out of this world. Ive always had great service when dining here. I would love to try the homemade ice cream, but I never have any room left after eating their delicious dinner and drinks!
