Seasonal Canadian cuisine prepped in an open kitchen, plus a terrace with mountain views.
Had our wedding anniversary dinner there. Spend around $250 ++ for one tomahawk set , 2 glass of wine and dessert. Tip included. For the price we paid , I feel that it is super worth it. Happy meal , happy service and nice view. If you are in banff downtown , u need to visit this place
Great meal! Tried the Caesar salad, bison ragu gnocchi and the bison rib eye. All the dishes were really good. Price is on the expensive side but it’s expected when you’re in a tourist area. If you want to try something different from a typical steakhouse, try this place.
Delicious anniversary meal! My husband got the bison ribeye (cooked perfectly!), I got the bison burger with warm potato salad (so juicy and tender, and the potato salad was AMAZING!), and we shared the seared scallop appetizer (we thought the portion was a little small, but probably because we could have eaten about 5 more, it was that good!). The staff was friendly and checked on us multiple times during our meal. They also were able to seat us sooner than our original reservation time, which was nice since we were flying out early the next morning! Awesome meal and exceptional service!
Amazing food! Robbie and Chris took great care of us. We loved every part of our dinner.
You know the thing about once of a life time. Yes. Eat bison meat just like that. We order the 30 some oz package. Cannot finish it. Just too much. Well, we tried. And is good. BTW, I want to say their service is excellent. The young lady was a such nice lady.
So good! Glad we managed to snag an online reservation at 5:45pm on a Thursday a few days beforehand. Nick helped us and gave us great recs. We were 2 ppl, we got the black cod (light and refreshing), the bison rib-eye medium rare (not as heavy as beef), the eggplant couscous (so good!), and the toffee dessert (highly recommend). Great date night :)
After seeing that the Bison was highly rated, we dined there in the summer which was not very enjoyable. As the establishment does not have any air-conditioning, the windows (behind the upstairs barwhich were next was open the whole night which resulted in a sweaty experience and several mosquito bites by the end.The service was below par as the waiter was not very attentive and at a point there was no space left on table (as we wanted to try a lot of items on the menu), he could have offered a larger empty table knowing that we ordered that amount of food. The food was ordinary with the dessert being the best feature of the night. We had the fried maitakes, bison ragu and salty chewy gnocchi (the pair did not compliment each other and seemed like separate items). The black cod crudo and seared scallops were okay.
A winter conference event at this restaurant. Looked like we filled the venue to capacity, have to say the staff did a great job.. being attentive and seemed like theyre all well versed handling a large group of people. Food wasnt half bad either from the canapes to the dinner service.
Easily top 5 places I’ve ever eaten and arguably taking the top spot. The menu is full of brilliant flavor combinations that were all executed perfectly. Nick is a wizard behind the bar. Give him a gist of what you’re thinking and let him run!
Im a vegetarian and found dinner here one of the best. Tasty salads and one of the best pasta dishes. Worth leaving room for the delicious desserts 😍
I had the good fortune to have a couple that chose the Bison as their wedding reception venue. The Bison team, is STELLAR. Rachel, Hayley and Kevin were just so supportive and on top of every detail. Kevin even allowed us in early to start setup, which was such a great help. The food was incredible, hot, beautiful and everyone raved about it.As a destination wedding specialist and the owner and founder of Destination Dream Weddings for 7+ years, I can truly state that this was one of the best weddings we have done, and that was due to all of the help and kindness of the Bison Team.I highly recommend them for any function or even just a nice evening out. Thanks again!Wendy Wharton
The food and service here is impeccable. The halibut was cooked to perfection. The espresso martini dessert drink was wonderful. Prices are high, but we were satisfied. Book ahead of time.
Great service. Nice atmosphere. Fantastic Smoked Old Fashioned. Unfortunately I can only give 3 stars as the food we tried was OK but not great for the price. We tried the Burrata, Scallop, Bison Ragu + Gnocchi, Rack of Lamb. The Bison Ragu + Gnocchi were the best of the dishes we ordered but felt overly salted. The grilled vegetables on the lamb were particularly good.
The Bison supposed to be good but they covered with too much salt killing the actual flavor.Potato and bison burgers are good too but all we can taste is saltiness.Over all way way too much salt.I would come back if we can order without salt at all.Salt salt salt .. 🧂🧂🧂🧂
The Bison ribeye was the best steak Ive ever had. And Ive eaten some amazing steaks around the globe. The flavour com of were simply amazing. We also had the burrata which was very good. My wife had the Bison gnocchi which was okay but for us we wished there was a bit of sauce qith it along with a bit more salt. I started the meal with an smoked old fashion and it was also the best old fashion Ive ever had.Though it is pricy the atmosphere, the food, the live music and our waiter did an amazing job.
We were originally aiming to patronize the pizza place nearby (they share the building but have separate doors next to each other), so it was a surprise when we were seated with the menu.But. Service was fantastic. They were incredibly accommodating, and their specialties were delicious and worth every nickel. Would come back again for a special anniversary!
We got their bison platter for two, was a really unique experience. Id say if youre treating anyone from out of town and able to get a reso here definitely try it out! Also ordered the buratta appetizer, was really fresh and quite a good portion.
For those who want to try the actual BISON meat, this is the best place to dine and savour it! Non red meat lovers, don’t forget to order their perfectly crisp slice of bread to enjoy with the sauce their other dishes may come with! Not forget their level 2 restaurant comes with outdoor dining to enjoy during spring and view of the stunning surrounding mountains in Banff!
It almost reminds me of a tavern or a pub the aesthetic inside - in a very tasteful and cute way.The food was amazing, from the appetizers to the main dishes, if they have the super large dish for the table to share with all the different meats I highly recommend it, we really enjoyed it!
Restaurant and staff were great. Unfortunately we chose the Tommohawk sharing platter for two. Very fatty meat was not to our liking.Wish wed chosen something else, but the veggies were good
It was one of the best restaurants in Banff, almost full when we arrived. When they knew we were only here for one night, got us a seat at the bar. The handsome guy at the bar patiently introduces us the most popular appetizers and special set: char-grilled bison. The bison cooked in a very special way before roasted, which gives the crispy outside and juicy, tender inside, tasty!
First time in Banff, and it was a special occasion to celebrate my partners birthday as well as on a vacation.I was aware this restaurant is not cheap to dine in, and my expectation was high after reading so many travel blogs that mentioning this place and the reviews.Well, the experience here just exceeded the hype we had coming in!The feature meal with Bison steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the source it came with was delicious by itselves. I had a red wine from Black Sage Vinery to go with the meal. I loved how they mention the suppliers of their food ingredients and wine on map on their menu. The meal definitely worth the price. My partner was over the moon after the meal, and it was just amazing night we had here.
We had a wonderful dinner here, the decor is very nice and welcoming as is the staff. It wasnt very busy at the time, and our waiter held back firing our food order until we were ready for our second drink. The bison ribeye was top notch and perfectly cooked medium-rare with fantastic sweet potato puree. The mushroom pappardelle was rich and delicious and a nice size, and the crudo was light and very well done. We also ordered the week tartare and it was perfectly done.
Absolutly amazing, everytime I go to Banff I will be going here. Amazing service, understanding and polite people. Not to mention the food! The food was amazing and the cooks are godlike. We were offered an off the menu item was 100% worth it wouldnt change a thing the gentlemen serving us were fantastic. The building is very nice its on the second floor so theres no cold draft when people open the door, open concept and plenty of windows. Looked like there was balcony seating, however I couldnt investigate further as I was there during the winter.
Let me start by saying Id give this place 6 stars if I could. They entirely set a new baseline for customer service for us last night. My partner has. Some dietary restrictions so I had called weeks in advance. They followed up the call three days before the night of dining. And when we arrived, the host and the server were both made aware of the restrictions. They went way out of their way to make her night extremely special. They server was extremely attentive and humerous without being overbearing. The food... Well, weve been here before and Id dare say this may be the best steak experience Ive had this year. Incredible flavor, great temperature of food upon delivery and fabulous presentation. The ambience of the place is extremely lively. All around, top marks across the board. Dont miss an opportunity to visit The Bison.
My additional reason (along with skiing and amazing natureto keep on visiting Banff. Their food, staff, decor are all superlative! Love their cellar too…
Had an incredible dining experience here. Our waitress Liz was amazing. She made us feel right at home the minute we sat down. We had both specials that they had to offer for the evening and we were completely floored by how delicious the food was. You can taste the time and thought and patience that went into each part of the dishes. I could not have been more pleased with the choice of eating here. I will certainly be back and everyone who goes to Banff needs to eat at the Bison, because you’re surely missing out if you don’t!
Had an amazing time at The Bison. Our waiter was phenomenal and had copious amounts of knowledge about the menu and fantastic pairings with our dishes. Will happily eat here again.
A must try when in Banff! We tried the elk tartare with their chia seed crackers which was delicious although a bit over salted. They had a bison platter for two ($139which included bison 3 ways - sausage, rib eye and short rib with crispy brussel sprouts/cauliflower and polenta. The meat was absolutely divine. Our server described it best - like beef, but richer, with a deeper flavour and creamier bite. The veggies like the tartare was oversalted.Make sure to make reservations in advance to secure a table!
Elk Tartare, Scallop Crudo, wood fired brome duck, smoked trout… but the **main event** had to be the Bison platter!! It had the bison ribeye, short rib and sausages! It was incredible!! Ps. The Caesar was soooo good!!
Fantastic local food!Delicious bison!!!Great cocktails.Amazing staff who work as a team.Nice ambiance.
The bison ribeye was awesome. The scallop crudo was a lil disappointing. Everything else was good
We shared the bison 3 ways board which included a 12oz ribeye, short ribs and sausage. Literally the best meal we have ever had. The polenta was fantastic and even the brussel sprouts were a hit! Can’t wait to come back.
Thank you for an amazing New Years Eve dinner! The service was great, and every dish tasted heavenly, with beautiful plating and interesting flavours and textures. Our server Antoine was very knowledgeable. The wine pairings were perfect for every dish. My favourite course was dessert, milk and honey, smooth creamy ice cream with a crunchy crumble.
Atmosphere: Chic modern with open concept kitchen.Food: 5/5 - The beet salad, bison short ribs and chocolate cake are a must! Solid drinks as well. Ordered the apple sour and Caesar.Service: 5/5 - Attentive staff and quick service.Highly recommend if youre visiting Banff. Prices are high but totally worth it.
I was in town for a conference and the locals recommended The Bison. The service was good, drinks were great, and the Bison platter for two was excellent. It came with Bison cooked 3 ways: short ribs, sausages, and steak; along with triple fried fries and wonderful charred brussel sprouts. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal!
The Bison is a lovely restaurant. The food is fresh, beautifully plated and made with care. I had the salmon eggs Benedict - absolutely delicious. They had a live singer, who sang Christmas songs as she played guitar. We were so relaxed and the feeling of Christmas was in the air. Lovely ambiance, with high ceilings, big windows and greenery. This space feels like a perfect representation of Banffs feel - natural, open, fresh, and wild.
My husband and I treated ourselves to a night out in Banff and picked The Bison for dinner. Service and food were excellent. We had their feature menu which was an assortment of bison cuts such as steak, short ribs and sausage on a bed of polenta with bokchoy and asparagus. My husband didnt care for the short ribs or the bokchoy but he was raving about everything else. He is a very stingy person when it comes to compliments so I take that as a win. Was it pricey? Yes. Was it worth it? Definitely. Would I go again? Double yes. P.S. The photos dont do it justice.
Tried their Elk tartare and it was out of this world! So good that a second order was placed soon after. Even my partner who does not eat raw meat enjoyed it, and that says a lot. We both ordered the 12 Oz Bison steak as our mains and though she was having a hard time finishing her steak, I was more than happy to eat the remaining 8 Oz or so she left on her plate. This restaurant is definitely worth visiting for anyone that hasnt been during their stay in Banff. Will be back to try their duck for the main on our next visit.
Pricey like all Banff restaurants but the quality of the dishes we ordered was tremendous. My wife lived the flavor profile of the beet salad and found the portion size just right for a lighter meal. I had the Bison Ragu and it was rich and delicious with perfectly done mini dumplings. Our cocktails were very well made and went perfectly with the food. We found the quality to be worth the wait to get in and the price.
One of best places in the area. Absolutely best ambience, amazing food, we were lucky to enjoy relaxing live music too. Definitely worth a visit.
Great food here! I made a reservation weeks prior to my arrival in the Banff area. Good thing I did, cause there was super long wait times for people who tried to do a walk in to the restaurant - approx 1.5-2 hours.I absolutely loved the vibe of the restaurant and the customer service and the food!Food was fantastic and tasted really good. We ordered the 3 bison platter- AMAZING. It’s a open concept kitchen as well, so you’re able to see the chef putting their hard work on each order. This is a highly recommended restaurant to visit if you’re in the Banff area!
A friend recommended this place for dinner and I am extremely pleased. I ordered the steak and hands down one of the best steaks I have ever had. Service was also excellent. I would highly recommend to check this place out if you’re looking for a modern vibe with delicious food!
Came here for our anniversary dinner. There was a bit of a wait when we arrived despite reservations. The patio was warm with the heat lamps. Great ambiance and view. The service was great as well, very friendly server. Whether you are a meat eater or vegetarian, the food was delicious. We had the beet salad and wood fried zucchini to start, the rigatoni and bison ribeye as mains, and shared the chocolate cake (if you love chocolate, highly recommend, so good). The cocktails, although a bit pricey, were pretty good too.
Every dish was elevated. I think it was the best beet salad Ive ever had. Drinks were great. We chose Bison don 3 different ways on a bed of polenta with veggies. Delicious. Servers were very attentive.
We loved their Bison player, specially the ribeye in it. Very moist and delicious. The shrimp item was alright. Drinks menu was interesting. It’s expensive but a great experience. Few minutes walk from our stay at Downtown Banff. We had reservations so we got our table shortly after reaching there. Friendly staff, beautiful ambiance. Definitely recommend.
Great food. Friendly staff. Good vibe nice patio upstairs I couldn’t really find anything wrong with this place to be honest. Most of the places in Banff are not so nice or the foods not so good but this place delivered on both
One of the best dining experience Ive had in Banff to date! The atmosphere, the staff and the food were all magnificent. It was a little loud because there was a big group behind us .. and we were also a big group but I was glad they were able to accommodate us. The service was very efficient and our waiter was great. He catered to all our needs and was super friendly. The food came quickly for a big group like ours. I enjoyed the bison ragu and ricotta dumplings and also the albacore crudo.. but man oh man, the highlight for me was the bison trio. The short ribs were super tender, the sausages had lots of flavour and the bison steak was excellent. I will definite recommend this place to anyone I know visiting Banff and I will surely be returning.
Good food and good cocktails. The upper floor patio is very nice. There was live music when we visited for dinner around 6ish on a Thursday night. We had the bison trio, everything about it except for the sausage was great. The sausages were decent but not really a highlight.
Our server Chris was amazing (and he was new). He was very hospitable, kind and had great recommendations for food. The food was great! Absolutely loved the bison trio with polenta and the lychee cocktail. The elk tartar was a bit underwhelming as the chip that was served with it seemed insubstantial. Overall a delicious menu!We were visiting from Toronto and had a lovely evening thanks our server Chris! 🙌🏻
