Opened in 1994, this 65-m. steel roller coaster is located at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
amazing done it 5 times in a row getting back on again Love it😀
Its been over 20 years since we were in Blackpool & we couldnt wait to go back on the Big One! The first drop was brilliant but after that we felt just thrown about the rest of the ride. Couldnt really enjoy the views as we were being thrown about that much!
Wow, what a disappointment! The Big One should be renamed The Big Letdown! We queued from 9:35am as we got into the park early and wanted to be as near to the top of the queue as possible for ride opening. Testing was ongoing so it looked good. Icon was testing next door and we could see full trains of riders running around by 10:10am. But not The Big One. A train stopped on the lift hill and was left there for ages, then it moved and more test trains with staff on board ran the course then another empty train was parked on the lift hill. This was Tuesday 19th July, the hottest day EVER in the UK and we were left queueing until 11:05am with no shade and no announcements by the team to tell us what was happening. Major black mark to the park for that. They clearly dont care about their guests at all, suffering in that blistering heat. When we finally got to ride we got a midtrain row and it was so BLAND. Whilst it was fast, there was no airtime whatsoever and it was rickety and rough. What a disappointment!! Taller doesnt mean better, and The Big One is truly The Big Letdown.
The big one is the 1 of my best roller coasters in the world. Superb is the big one. I go on it every year depends on the weather. I was 19 when I first went on Pepsi max in 2008. It inspires of 1 of my favourite drink. Pepsi max. Superb ride ever. :)
Great coaster!!
Best ride in my life!
The big one (aka the Pepsi maxis a bit scary at the start especially if youre scared of heights but the rest of the ride is amazing and you go around the hole park.
AMAZINGWasent open for majority of the day due to the winds ( nobody can help the weather but opened and didn’t disappoint, would ride again , super smooth , good airtime , all employees lovely
Excellent place , has got expensive now but a great place to go with the family 👍
I’ve never been on it. But I’ve got a feeling that it’s the kinda roller coaster where you know it’s gonna be goooood
Out of all the rides I went on I think this one was the least scary (the scariest being infusiontrust me the drop isnt that scary and the pictures that come from them are hilarious the line isnt even that long g as well and goes by pretty quickly as its a 30 person at a time coster.
Absolutely loved it except I think it did some damage to my back like oh my Lordy lord it is shaky I thought it might snap please send help like I literally thought my back was broken oh my god. Overall fun ride
this is a big ride its so big that i can see it from my house
It was very fun and the view was amazing.
Really nice to lean back and enjoy the view on the lift hill but holy smokes does it pack a punch once the train goes into the first drop. Very intense and lengthy layout, however it got quite rough in places. Trains quite uncomfortable for bigger riders
This is a great coaster and has great vues but is a bit rough it is fast and good but slow at some places
I would say i would have liked the ride more if there was a bit more of a safety equipped into it, as it is a massssive drop. None the less a good coaster, massive and get to see the whole theme park.
Absolutely superb coaster. Definitely not a monorail as some people call it! The first drop is amazing and the turnaround and dive into the tunnel are also very good. People have said that it lacks good restraints? You get a seatbelt, a grab rail and a lap restraint so what more do you need really? Someone has bizarrely said that the mechanism keeps the trains on the track and not G forces alone? Well of course the wheels above and below track keep the trains on like every other coaster on the planet because G force has no relationship with keeping the trains in position on the actual track, look it up. I just wish that they could restore a 3 train service, get more sections retracked and bring back the LED lights on the side however the latest 2022 track work by Taziker has really helped refresh the ride
Gutted that it was closed until April 2022 for refurbishment
My eldest daughter and I really enjoyed this ride you get a brilliant view from the top.
Queued for about 40 minutes on a Saturday lunchtime which was reasonable. As enjoyable a roller coaster as it was 20 years ago, excellent views during the climb
Still a great ride on a clear and sunny day. Still to do the night time riding on it.
I absolutely loved this! It did break down once but I only waited for 1.5 hours, its a one-of-a-kind, and it is also really fast, I never had been this happy on a roller coaster before, I was nervous at first, but then when I got on. It was so fun and is so memorable. Also, this is the tallest roller coaster in the UK, at approximately 213 feet (65m). It isnt 235 feet (72m), it is 72 meters off the coast. This is my 2nd most favourite ride here, and I am so grateful for this. :)
Staff werent that friendly. I think a test carriage would be beneficial so customers of all sizes can check if they fit comfortably as this avoids embarrassment at the front of the queue. The ride itself was excellent though
I didnt go on because i was scared of the height of it but my wife & 2 kids went on twice in a row and said it was an amazing thrill but a bit rattly second time. Good airtime apparently
This ride is incredible. If youre worried about doing it, dont be, just do it. You wont regret it. Fast, intense, and so much fun. I highly recommend it!
Great fun coster, bit rough in places, definitely recomend
Excellent roller coaster, big, long and thrilling, wasn’t too overly aggressive and genuinely enjoyed it, the views on the way up are spectacular 👍🎢❤️
The rollercoaster itself is great, but my goodness the place is tired and has a faint whiff of despair about it. Being so close to the sea means anything quickly deteriorates but the entire town looks shabby. We headed for this ride straight away when the park opened so the queue wasn’t too bad. It is a good coaster.
This review is for those who like their coasters.I chickened out of riding it when I was a child. I’m a bit of a coaster nerd now with almost no fear of them and have been raring to go again. Finally did it on my recent visit and went on three times.Yes it’s getting old and is a bit bumpy in places and the compressions at the bottom of the dips can be brutal. I had heard the ride was tame after the first drop, not every moment is super thrilling, but the ride is still enjoyable. The first drop though…if the train hit a braking run at the base and returned to the station…. the ride would still be worth it. I sat on the back row in the left seat anticipating this would give me the most intense drop. Being so far behind the centre of the train, it would already be accelerating down before I crested the lift hill. I wasn’t wrong. I couldn’t really process the sensations as I was whipped over the top, but it was fast and intense and I felt genuine fear on a rollercoaster for the first time in years.Riding it in strong rain is definitely worth trying, yes it hurts, but it’s quite the experience. If you want to enjoy the views, sit right at the front which I managed to do just before it closed. You get a lot of time to admire them at the top of the lift hill as the middle of the train catches up. Also if you’re not a massive thrill seeker this will take the sting out of the tail of the dropThe head chopper elements really do leave you doubting if you’re hands will still be attached if you leave them on the air.Maybe familiarity breeds contempt and the Big One is underrated these days, but I think it’s still a solid ride, with the first drop when seated at the back of the train being one of the most fantastic coaster experiences I’ve ever had.If you want to enjoy the views sit near the front. But for those who love it, sit at the back left!
terrifying, and a bit shoogly, being an old roller coaster Kept my eyes shut for most of the ride. Next time Ill be brave and look as I go round all the twists, turns and drops
Lets just say theres a reason its called the big one. Its big. And theres only one of it. Clocking in at 235 feet, this is the tallest rollercoaster IN THE WORLD, even higher than the Lincoln Cathedral (tallest building. The only downside is when you get to the top you have to look at Blackpool. 10/10
A massive disappointment. It looked insanely heigh and I was so excited thinking of how much airtime that would bring only to be brought with my greatest enemy. The restraints they completely stapled me to the car causing any potential airtime to not happen. Overall if they changed the lap bar to something else it could be better.
Long ride with some uncomfortable sections.
Absolutely amazingFirst of all there is a sense of excitement and adventure as you are queuing up and boarding. When the train starts moving your heart begins to race and the sense of adventure. The ride up the chainlift feels like it takes forever to get to the top but once you start riding and get past that first drop it is a truly incredible experience. Being on this ride makes you feel like you are flying and the speed really supports that. The ride is tall and it can be scary to get onto but trust me it has been the best experience of my life.If you have the chance then please ride this rollercoaster, you won’t regret it.
Before boarding The Big One the adrenaline is already going with the amazing soundtrack! This ride is something spectacular! Once the world’s tallest rollercoaster and still the UKs tallest! As you slowly ride up the lift hill you get amazing views everywhere! Before reaching the top you realise how big this rollercoaster is! And then you shoot down, over hills and around the turnaround. Then you go into more hills and a helix. Finally you go through the tunnel and the ride is over! Definitely the must do ride at the park! Still amazing! Can be closed when it’s windy as it can’t always open when it’s windy however on a sunny day it’s brilliant! Lasts for about 3 minutes in total! On-ride photography available! Honestly, you’ll love it!
5 stars. This ride is an absolute classic. Though there may be a few bumps here and there, that does not stop the adrenaline pumping through your body. The slow incline to the top really brings in anticipation and you get some great views of the Irish Sea once you are at the top. I totally recommend this.
My most favourite roller coaster in the UK. When opened in 1994. It was the tallest and steepest roller coaster in the world. Still gives the “boy that’s high” feeling and the “Jeez are we not at the top yet” First drop still scares and is amazing at the same time. A fantastic roller coaster for years to come. Top tip.... sit at the back!
Best coaster in Blackpool. Though its closed alot due to windy weather. Best time to ride it is after dark.
Great ride. Short wait times. Great height with drop at the start. Fantastically high. Great views of the beach from the top or town lit up at night time. Duration of ride is long. High speeds but not a very smooth ride. Quite rickety and shakey on the track.
Still an amazing ride after 25yrs and especially good in the dark
Great thrill but the lack of any real restrains doesn’t feel right on such a big coaster!
It was big, it was fun, it hurt! The carts were definitely being held on the rails by the mechanisms, not the G forces (as with most modern coastersso we were banged around quite a lot on the twists and turns. Glad to have done it but Icon is a much smoother and fun ride!
I went here today and I loved it!! The queue is long (sometimesbut that all goes out the window! The first drop is probably the scariest because it feels like you will fall out of the ride. There are around 5 points that it looks like you will smash your head against a piece of scenery. Even if you have little to no fear of roller-coasters and heights, you will scream on this ride. This may be a bit extreme for a first time roller-coaster, however if you have been on roller-coasters before... you will absolutely love this. Even though this is the tallest roller-coaster in the UK (I thinkthis was fabulous! I 100% recommend this ride! Good job, Blackpool!
Fantastic ride and will always hold a place in my heart.A ride for everyone and Im surprised by the amount of younger kids that go on it compared to 10years ago. Maybe something to do with the school holidays. I thought rheyaybe more scared of the height. Will always have a go on this whenever Im at the park, lets hope it doesnt get taken down anytime soon.
This is the best roller coaster. At the peak its 235 feet high, and feels like your going to fall straight into the sea. Wonderful feeling.
I felt unsafe!!! We love roller coasters as a family and travel all over. But this was rickety and didnt feel safe! My daughter was bruised after. Was surprised and disappointed!!! In no rush to return. Can get passes to Parks for less than the entrance cost with many more rides. What a shame!
Best rollercoaster anywhere in the UK. Love the views from the top.
Great rollercoaster! 🎢 Those altitude markers on the first incline really help add to the anxiety! A little bit of a rough ride in places but overall brilliant! That first drop though... 😧 🤢
Iconic, beautiful and always delivers an enjoyable experience.Great ride! Easily one of the best coasters in our country.
