1440 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach, FL 33139, United States, Miami Beach
Overlooking a palm-dotted beach, this upscale boutique hotel on Ocean Drive occupies an elegant Georgian Revival building from the 1940s. It's a 12-minute walk from the shopping and bars of Lincoln Road.Rooms and suites with walnut floors and tropical touches offer 2- or 4-poster beds, minibars and Wi-Fi access, along with flat-screen TVs, iPod docks and in-room libraries with autographed books.Amenities include a courtyard pool, a spa and a poetry library, as well as a rooftop deck with a garden. There’s a high-end steakhouse and a sleek lobby bar, while an underground speakeasy space can be reserved for events. Yoga classes are offered.
I recently stayed May 2022 and cannot express enough how much this historic location impressed me! I only learned about its history after the fact, but only something this special can survive more than 70 years! The rooms are comfortable, the beautiful touches of art are captivating and comforting. The front desk, servers and valet are ALL superb particularly Shirley, and Manish who assisted with my late checkin and early checkout! Cant wait to return!
(A quick preface: I will be reviewing the restaurant only). Ah, where to begin. If you are simply a casual tourist, willing to settle for a nice restaurant, you have come to the right place. However, if you are a veteran traveler, hardened by tourist traps and exhausted from travel guides, searching for the perfect restaurant, I am glad to be one to tell you your search is over. The Betsy Hotel’s restaurant is an exquisite establishment by a nice, grassy promenade. As soon as you enter, you are greeted by a nice rush of AC to ease you from the sweltering heat of Miami Beach (the AC is not to cold either as they typically are). You will then be faced with the difficult decision of sitting at a classy and luxurious table to the left, or go to the ethereal sofas by the bar where a gentleman plays Jazz on the piano like Sviatoslav Richter himself is performing live. Stuck in a catch twenty-two, you will find yourself wandering past the bar to stumble upon a lovely little wine cellar filled to the brim with Chateaus and Cabernets dating back to the Prohibition. I myself had a bottle of 1986 Montrachet and it was simply sublime. Looking around, I noticed that the Fortuny lamps complimented the Wicker furniture perfectly to craft a beautiful harmony resembling an opulent colonial manor. Once you decide where you would like to sit, you are not forgotten amongst the daily hustle and bustle of the restaurant (as these things usually go), and are promptly greeted by a friendly server ready to satisfy all your needs. The servers are warm, accommodating, and don’t shy away from including some humor to enhance the aura. The wait is minimal, but even if it isn’t, you will be perfectly content lounging in pure bliss as you gaze upon the elegant decor and smooth Jazz caresses your ear canal ever so gently. Once your meal arrives, you will not be disappointed; regardless of what you order, the meal will be rich and superlative at the very least. I had a tuna tartare as I was not very hungry, but I wish I had a larger appetite for my meal was absolutely superb. The minute you leave, you’ll be wishing you spent a minute longer at the Betsy Hotel. I hope I have convinced you to eat at the Betsy sometime soon.Yours humbly,Mr. Nugget
EVERYTHING was on point at the Betsy. Perfect location just on the outer edge of the Ocean Drive craziness, and a very short walk to the beach. Beach chairs and umbrellas included in the resort fee were super useful. The coffee shop on the Collins Ave side of the building was great for a morning pick-me-up. Wonderful drinks and live music in the evenings make the lobby feel so elegant. The two pools were nice and peaceful. Fritzner and Antonio at the front desk were always willing to help with whatever we needed each day. My only wish was that the prices direct through Betsys website were more competitive, since I prefer to book direct and I know that its financially advantageous for the owners as well. Great work, Betsy team. We WILL be back!
Great location. Clean. Friendly staff. Rooms were great, comfortable beds, hot water, and good water pressure. The pools left some to be desired. Near by construction starts at 7am. Its a good stay for couples or singles.
This hotel is great! Love the pools, close beach access, and nearby amenities. Also a thank you to Fritz for bringing all of our luggage outside, flagging down our uber, and helping us load up our luggage. Excellent service here.
The Betsy was a wonderful experience! Loved the location, atmosphere, pool, artwork, fitness facility restaurant, and library. Special thanks to Shelia at the restaurant, Fritzner and Fritz at the front desk, and Chris for giving me the rich history of the writers room…I will definitely be back!
A beautiful hotel, with thoughtful details and a wonderful guest experience. We had breakfast included-the breakfast menu is fantastic! Also ate sushi in the bar (deliciousand had a meal in the restaurant (good choices and fantastic quality).Everyone on staff was helpful and friendly. Thanks to Fritzner for our warm welcome at check in.This hotel has everything, and is unique with its jazz, art and literary patronage and inclusion -recommend!Huge shout out to LeNard and Jim who performed for the Juneteenth event and in the hotel-amazing musicians, thanks for a wonderful evening.
Very nice boutique hotel. The staff was friendly and the food really yummy. The bed and room was comfortable but the shower could have used more water pressure. Be aware, this is NOT a beachfront property. The beach is across the street.
Incredible stay for 2 nights. Everything we needed and beyond. The customer service was exceptional and there was not a single thing left unaddressed. I felt completely taken care of.At every turn, there was someone ready to assist you. Thank you, Lesley and team!
Where to start … this was my first trip ever to Miami and I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing this place is. From the minute you walk in you can just tell you booked the right place. The Staff, the amenities, the grounds … everything is done with excellence. It is safe to say I’m looking forward to coming back again and I wouldn’t even consider staying elsewhere. A little side note … don’t even waist your time looking on Ocean Drive for a place to eat.. LT’s steakhouse on the premise is the best meal you will have I can promise you that!
Wow, What a great experience for me and my husband! I hope the owners know and understand how committed their staff is to a great customer experience. Starting with JoseMaria who was so incredibly kind and accommodating to us. Honestly his positivity is infectious to all who work there. Great attitude and hard working. Valerie who gives an excellent guest experience and Alex was the sweetest and very on top of making sure that we were taken care of.We would never stay anywhere else. Best hotel in Miami Beach just like everyone else had said. Far exceeded my expectations. I will have dreams about your truffle French fries 🤤 although all of the meals were fantastic there. Thank you all and I will see you soon! Way sooner than later!Jessica Lopen
We loved everything about this hotel. So unique and well done in every aspect. There were so many little nooks and crannies to explore- a library, pool, cafe, many little places to sit down and read. Very dog friendly, our chihuahua was in heaven. Also the staff was so friendly - thanks Juan for great care. We will for sure be back next time we are in south beach.
Food was a hit - drinks were a miss. Steak was cooked spot on and was very good. Skip the sauces - its good enough to be, and should be eaten as is. Mixology wasnt terrible but didnt come together. Id certianly visit again and was a better out together menu than all of the picture board menus that share the strip of ocean with it. Good enough to return to. Just wine and a nice sized shrimp cocktail. It wasnt on the dinner menu but just ask.
This is an excellent hotel. The staff take great care of you. Very nice pool, great location just across from the beach, excellent restaurant, wonderful evening piano bar, very nice rooms, a library if you want to spend some quiet time and STELLAR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I will definitely be back for another stay at The Betsy.
We had a great stay here during the Miami Grand Prix! From the beginning, Fritz did a great job helping us get settled. He always went above and beyond and thought of every detail possible!
I booked this hotel completely by random and couldnt have been more excited and impressed upon my arrival. Travel Lesson 1: Whenever you enter the lobby of a hotel and are immediately handed a glass of Prosecco, you probably made a good choice! The room was amazing. The lobby was so relaxing and inviting. The location and view are premier. The service can be rated well over 5 stars by all of the staff. Special mention to Val, Alex, and Hector. You guys made us feel like we were old acquaintances . Friendliness goes a long way in the service industry, and this hotel know how to make you feel extremely welcomed! Thanks, Jonathan, for creating a wonderful escape!
Amazing Hotel! The staff is so friendly, especially Fritzner at the front desk and the bell service guy (can’t remember his name). They we’re so helpful and so kind. The food is delicious and prepared perfectly. I will stay here every time I visit Miami Beach.
We stayed at the Betsy for a 5-day weekend family trip to Miami, and it was great! The hotel itself had a fun vibe to it --- the amenities overall were pretty good, with a decent breakfast menu at the restaurant, lots of good hang out spaces with two pools and a giant courtyard, live jazz throughout the day (a theme for April 2022), a library, beach supplies, and great art and photography on the walls. We had a Balcony King Suite and it was roomy for a family of four, and the balconies were great places to relax in the evenings. And the location cant be beat --- the beach was literally right across a pedestrian-only street, with a lot of buzz and activity from surrounding bars and restaurants and other hotels. But really the best thing about the experience was the staff. When we arrived there was a snafu that originally put us in a much smaller room than we had booked through Expedia, but the front desk person at the time (Chrisimmediately made it up to us, transferring us the next day to an upgraded room and offering us some compensation on breakfast. As we needed additional help that weekend he and Fritzner were very on the ball and helpful at the front desk, as was Juan, one of the porters, all of them checking in on us periodically as we went through the lobby on our way to places to make sure all of the arrangements were working out for us. As we were headed out to the airport on our last day Juan made sure we had water for the trip and even a couple of little stuffed Betsy dolls for the kids, which become their special companions for the entire plane ride! And Chris carefully went over our bill with us before we left to make sure that everything was accurate and that we had really been taken care of.Id definitely recommend a stay at the Betsy if youre visiting South Beach. Theyll take great care of you, and if its Chris, Fritzner, or Juan in particular you definitely know youll be in great hands!
Such a lovely hotel for our final stop in Florida for 2 nights before flying home. Beautiful property, great location for the beach, lovely pools and staff really friendly and helpful, particularly Fritzner for his help with checking out.
This querky art deco-era hotel is right on the beach. The restaurant was great for 1st class breakfast and the lounge bar was laid back with an eclectic mix of objects strewn around to amuse the eye.The resident golden retrievers gave it the homely feel whilst retaining the Miami chic and whatever goes vibe. The rooms were nicely decorated but being an old building they are very small, odd shapes and no real soundproofing between floors. The air con was a godsend but too noisy to keep on all night.
Very nice hotel with friendly staff. Great bar with live music and has outside seating which is great for people watching. perfect location and easy access to beach with chairs/towels available at the beach from the hotel. Nice terrace pool as well. We were upgraded to a suite facing ocean drive and it was wonderful experience all around. Would definitely come back.
A perfectly located hotel right across the street from the beach and on a quieter stretch of Miami beach - it has the feel of Charleston while in Miami, and the interior has so much personality, great food, and staff that tries very hard to make your stay as perfect as possible. Manager Hendrik and his man at the desk, Fritzner, were always helpful and encouraged us to definitely return for a future stay. Thank you, Betsy!
This hotel is above and beyond amazing! We arrived to the hotel and Fritzner took care of us. He gave us complimentary breakfast, was explaining everything, and always mentioned that he is there for us. We requested 2 cribs, and the team did everything they could to provide this to us. Not to mention that we’ve been upgraded to a suite as our room was too small. I can’t really express how we are grateful for this experience. The team always provided bottles of water and always asked if we need anything. Juan from the front desk, took really good care of us at our last hours. Helped us with the Uber and the luggages. Couldn’t ask for anything to be better than it was. Room was always clean and neat! I wasn’t expecting for this kind of experience, this was beyond words! 120% I’ll come back!Hotel is at very central location, with easy access to the beach. They are also providing beach towels and chairs.Thank you again for taking care of us, we don’t taking it for granted especially when traveling with 2 small babies ❤️Ori and Olga
The Betsy is a beautiful hotel and we enjoyed our stay very much. The staff was so kind especially Fritzner and Chris. They made our stay extra special! We would come back.
Its been years since we last stayed so treated wife & daughter to a few day stay Its still great!! Location is amazing - love the new rooftop pool area - thanks Gustavo for all the great drinks and service. Room was clean, great food, friendly professional staff. thanks to Fritz for taking care of our bags as we rushed out on our last day!! Well be back
We really enjoyed our stay in the Betsy. The hotel has a great, luxurious atmosphere, but feels cozy too. The location is perfect at lively Ocean drive, very close to the beach. But above all, the staff was very caring and helpful, they really made it a 5 star experience. Especially Gustavo at the front desk was an amazing host.
We stayed for a week 12/3 for our Golden wedding anniversary. I had been in contact with Art one of the concierge who arranged our airport transfers, and what a Gentleman he is! He also arranged wine for us on the day of our anniversary. Our room 339 was roomy, clean and looked out onto the atrium with a balcony. Had to knock a star off for the noise from I think is the main air conditioner which seemed to be above the room. I spoke to reception next morning and was told it would be looked into, I left it but it continued so spoke again, was told this was something that was known so essentially nothing could be done, they did offer to change rooms but by then we only had 3 nights left so didnt. Saying this my husband managed to sleep through 🙄.The breakfasts are fantastic as is the restaurant for dinner, with friendly and efficient staff, and if you can get a table on the terrace there is some great people watching! Overall this is a fantastic hotel, and would highly recommend. We had a superior with balcony, the bathroom was spacious and I just loved the marble herringbone 😍
The Betsy has areally good location, both for the beach and all of the activity of Ocean Drive. The lobby, the bar, and the restaurant have a really good vibe/ cool atmosphere/ live music. Service was also really good. Unfortunately, the rooms are very small. The bathroom is simply too small. The shower is just tiny. You will be touching the side walls while you are dancing around to get a drop of water to hit you. Very weak pressure and mild, never hot water. The water took nearly five minutes to reach warm. The bathroom floor is then soaked since the European style shower has no door because if you had a door it would hit the toilet. The rooftop pool is nice and does have a bar. The hotel restaurant is recognized as one of the best in the area. They do have a beach area for hotel guests, but it is intermingled into the fully public/ very busy beach with no services on the beach.
This hotel is amazing! It’s beautiful, chic, so picturesque and the people who work here are even better. I’d like to shout out Manish who helped us celebrate my birthday. He was so nice at check in and made sure I had an amazing birthday celebration. Thank you Betsy Hotel- this is one of the few places that the hype is really worth it. So elegant, charming and in a great location.
We stayed here in January 2022 for 8 days. We had two rooms -- a king suite and a double, and both were excellent, clean, and well-appointed. The rooms were clean and quiet. Our king suite had a balcony onto an atrium and it was lovely, despite not being an ocean-view room. We didnt have much interaction with the staff, though thats because everything was really as it should be, and didnt require any intervention. The rooftop pool was relatively small, but in perfect condition, with excellent bar service. Other rooftop lounge nooks provided opportunities to hang out without being crowded by other guests. The hotel restaurant is good, if expensive; I recommend looking at other options for food, including The Front Porch Cafe (half a block away), FL Cafe (about a block away), and Maxines Bistro & Bar (a well-worth-it 4-block walk from the Betsy). Only one concern to flag for prospective visitors -- finding your room is not as easy as you might hope; be *sure* to pay attention to what the front desk staff says about how to get to your room -- there are multiple elevators and multiple "buildings" (though all connectedthat make getting to your room the first time (and maybe second and third, if youre like mea little confusing. Definitely just listen carefully as the staff directs you -- and be sure to look at the map that they give you. And enjoy your stay -- we certainly did!
We had the most lovely sisters weekend at the Betsy. Cozy yet chic boutique hotel experience. We didn’t bring our dogs but love that it’s dog friendly. Seeing the two resident pups, Betsy and Rosa, in the lobby everyday was such a treat.
The customer service has went completely downhill. This was my favorite hotel pre pandemic. On a positive note; the hotel grounds are lovely. The food was good. The rooms lovely. However; there customer service is not up to par.1.When I was leaving the hotel. I was mistreated by management and majority of the front desk staff. They called security to wait outside the bathroom for me as I was changing to leave to the airport. It was very catty and uncalled for. I had no prior conflicts. possibly envy)2.Caucasian doorman(forgot his namealmost slammed a door in my face, refused to carry my luggage to my taxi. I honestly do believe him and some of the front desk have trouble tending to people of color.3.I would not stay here again as a solo female traveler. I would try other establishments in the area.
Outstanding! Staff went above and beyond to make everything the most enjoyable and relaxing time for us! Hendrick front desk superb! Paul concierge phenomenal and funny! Juan was extra helpful and sweet and our servers Jose and Renee kindly attentive. I will definitely be back. Hopefully not to work as much! Hotel has so many spaces to enjoy. You’re welcome everywhere throughout. Any minor blips were always taken care of with concern and respect. Beautiful room - restful and relaxing! Wonderful hotel - looking forward to our next visit.
