Rustic, laid-back hangout offering thin-crust pizza, Canadian pub grub, craft beer on tap & a patio.
We popped in for a quick lunch and there was no wait on Monday which was great. We had walked by the night before and it was so busy and the pizza looked delicious. It was really good and since we weren’t too hungry one pizza shared between two was perfect. We got the margarita pizza which looked different than we expected but still very good. The best part was when they brought over honey and chilli oil to dip with, a surprisingly delicious combo. Staff was very friendly and prices were typical for Banff.
Food is pretty solid - lots of pizza and some comfort food options. Mac and cheese is great. The orange haired lady at the front desk was quite unfriendly, although squeezed us in for a table. The bald British man in a shirt was by far the best employee there, super friendly and genuinely cared.
We made a reservation we were seated right away with a pick of where we would like to sit in a busy Saturday night. We sat on the back patio with a heater The service was quick and friendly, she was very nice. The pizzas were good with a special dipping sauce! were
Delicious! We had the Wheeler Hut and Mediterranean Pizzas - made vegan. They were ABSOLUTELY delicious. Our server recommended them as great ones to make vegan, as well, she was helpful in many other ways. We had delicious cocktails, our dinner was served fast and like I said was very good. Our server was attentive and pleasant without being overbearing. We really enjoyed our meal. Not cheap, but worth it!
We came here for dinner and were able to sit on the patio. We ordered two different salads and two vegan pizzas, the salads came in no time and were really tasty. The pizzas were also really good and came only shortly after we were done with our salads. They have a good selection of vegan pizzas and salads which are not only the standard options you normally get and offer a cheese alternative for their pizzas as well. The service was extremely attentive and friendly, we enjoyed our dinner here a lot. Also liked the chili oil and honey we got as dipping sauces for the pizza crust.
Our friend took us here on our holiday in Banff, claiming this is the best pizza he ever had. While Im not sure it is the best, it is certainly great! At $25 a pizza, the price is really reasonable despite being in Banff. The pizzas were so big that most of us couldnt finish them. The idea of dipping my pizza in honey and chilli oil was something I never knew I needed, but now I want to do it again.
This is an amazing affordable place. The pizza are absolutely delicious, very filling too. The service was impeccable truly worth going if you’re craving a delicious pizza.
Pretty fantastic food overall based on what we ordered for the most part. The pizza there is honestly so good because they make their dough a certain way, so I loved the texture and the thickness of it. Probably one of the best pizza’s I’ve had in my life, but again, I’ve never been to Italy. So my bar is not too high. The lamb rib sauce was also absolutely delicious and the texture of the lamb meat was not bad as well. However, I do not recommend the lettuce wrap. The steak meat on our wraps were cold and the texture was off as well. The beers from the tasting order was not bad, wouldn’t hurt to try it if you like beer.Overall a great experience because we were lucky enough to get a good seat during a weekend even when it was pretty packed.
Amazing pizza, unbelievable flavor and the perfect texture of crust. Our waiter Jack was excellent and took the time explaining the menu as it was our first time. As suggested, mix the honey with their chili, rosemary oil! The salads are massive portions, good to share with the whole table
We sat in the back patio, wouldnt recommend if at night as it gets really dark and full of mosquitoes. My husband had to run to circle k to buy bug spray as my daughter was getting eaten alive.Kid menu is good. The pizzas were good but had better i feel like the dough and crust didnt have flavour and i really needed the dip.The toppings were good.Good beer. The bathrooms are disgusting, and always have a long line, annoying. For this type of restaurant/cost i would expect better restrooms.Service was slow.Overall okay, kinda expensive for what I got imo.
You know when you are constantly on the lookout for "the best pizza ever?" Look no further than Bear Street Tavern. Stop in the stop looking. Great taste. Great service. Great atmosphere. The Triple Threat of Banff. The pizza is amazing on its own but then theres the whole "oil+honey" dipping of crust. Nothing left but an empty plate. Our server Kelsey is a great ambassador of the tavern. His wit, as quick as his service. Both greatly appreciated. Back again soon.
Great service quality, very fast even thought it was fairly busy. We ordered 2 pizzas, the godfather and the big bird. I was so happy with the quality of the pizzas, the crust was a good size and fluffy. All the topics worked together and it was seasoned well
Great gluten free pizza! They were careful to distinguish my pizza and set it on the stand above the others, to avoid contamination.
Good prices and quality food. We enjoyed our meal. They really do tasty pizza! It was delicious. Plus we had spicy wingers which we couldnt wait to eat despite they were hot. The negative part I experienced was as a foreign tourist, I must recognize, I am not very used to be asked so many times if everything is good.
Always a line up here! Definitely book a reservation in advance! Can do same day booking online. They have a dog friendly patio as well and I love the vibe. Staff here are very nice as well.Ordered pizza and they were made fresh to order and came out piping hot! Prices were pretty reasonable as well. One thing I will say is that they are a bit on the greasier side, especially when they bring their oil/honey mix to the table. And they do not provide wet wipes. They also share a bathroom with the business/restaurant next door and there are only 3 stalls which isn’t the most ideal situation.
Was visiting the town with friends and a dog and was encouraged to try this place - was not disappointed! The courtyard in the back is all dog friendly - they bring out a fresh water bowl and refill on request. Plenty of umbrellas and shade - it started to rain and hail and we didn’t get wet or hit by hail at all . The pizza was perfect in crust and the flavours with the home-made honey and hot oil were spectacular. Good portions for the price you pay (for Banff standards). We had the Viva La Pizza, the Godfather, and the Hawaiian - all were excellent. A full drink menu with plenty of local craft beers. Will definitely be visiting this place again!
Came here to get a bite to eat after a hike after finding out they had a dog friendly patio. Pizza was amazing, all the staff were extremely friendly. 10/10 would recommend especially if u have dogs! Thank you for having us!
One of the most delicious gluten free pizzas I’ve ever had! The honey & chilli oil combo that they give you to dip your pizza in is a great touch and addition to the pizza! Will definitely stop by again
We first visited here in Nov. We loved it so much, it was our first stop when we came back to Banff in June. And then again before we left. Great pizza!! Amazing vegan options, stellar drinks n relaxed vibe. Staff is also super friendly and helpful, got lots of tips on spots to check out by the bartender.
Hands down the BEST gluten free pizza Ive ever had. Highly recommend. Also, not only is the patio dog friendly, but they also have a dog menu! Fantastic staff, great atmosphere, I would definitely go out of my way to go back there next time Im in Banff.
This was my favourite restaurant! The pizzas are amazing! My first ever experience of maple syrup on my pizza - would highly recommend trying it 👌 good sized portions! Great value for money - staff were excellent! Wonderful find!
This place offers delicious and filling American-style pizza (as they put mustard sauce on some pizzas). If you are hungry, then eat the entire pie!Service is excellent. The waitresses are cheerful and will do their best to give you a positive experience.
Hands down favorite place to eat/drink in Banff. The pulled pork nachos are to die for, and layered (!!!), with handfuls upon handfuls of cheese and other goodness. The pizza is simply incredible (even the crust….), but most importantly, some of the most consistently personable and friendly service I’ve received from a pub in a long time. Wish they had a few more draft beer options, but their canned collection is abundant. James, Patty, Shania, and Sannah: hope you are valued and paid well; y’all made the experience that much better. 👌
Fantastic pizzas served with honey and chili pepper oil.Single bathrooms shared with other establishments so be prepared for a possible wait.Overall an enjoyable patio experience that I would have no qualms about returning to.
Loved this place. Super cozy, with great food and drinks. We each got one of the salads. They were huge and delicious. Wish we had bigger appetites as all the other food looked amazing.
Booked for dinner, seated at a small 2-seat table (so small the pizzas are stacked to fit on the tablebut overall good atmosphere in the room.Server was really helpful and attentive and the drinks we ordered (beer and a winewere great, the quality of the food just didn’t match up really. We ordered a pizza and asked for no maple syrup on it, which was fortunate as when it came the toppings were really oily any runny already. Disappointing for somewhere that only really does pizza. We have much better pizza at a place in Canmore.
Pretty sure this is the most delicious pizza Ive ever had. I got Viva la Pizza and my partner got The Godfather and we both loved dipping them in honey as the waiter recommended. They also allow dogs on the patio, which is something we dont see often but seems to be more common in Banff. Well look into visiting this place again next time we pass through.
Visited on a Sunday evening at 8 pm early June and the place was packed. Had to wait 30 minutes for a table. Ordered the Caesar salad and margarita pizza - both delicious. First time trying honey and chili oil on top of the pizza.Service was excellent and not rushed.Would return next time I am in Banff.
Always a pleasure eating here. We were here exactly 5 years ago. An older couple actually gave us their last slice, they did not want it to be wasted because it was so good. We said no thanks but the gentleman passed it over and we did not have the heart to make him feel bad. Excellent service 👍
When we walked in, we overheard a server say that this is "some of the best pizza in Canada" and she was seriously not wrong! I am vegan and had the veg option, subbed vegan cheese and meat and it was so amazing! We loved it so much that we came back in the same day with our other friends for drinks and appetizers. It was a great setting for those of us that have dietary restrictions, and those that dont. The alcohol selection was also great!
Our server Jessie was awesome. She brought a bowl of water and dog blanket for my little TOTO. The courtyard patio was perfect for cold weather. This is a great pet friendly restaurant in Banff. Highly recommended !! Oh, pizza was delicious too. Don’t forget to put chili oil and honey on your crust. 10/10 here!
My fiance and I got pizzas here which were super delicious and loaded with toppings. The outdoor section is dog friendly so we got to watch dogs while we are our meal inside. I didnt find it overly busy or loud so that was excellent for me. You mix chilli oil and honey and dip the pizza crust in it and it is delicious.
This tavern was featured on You Gotta Eat Here. The hostess was friendly and offered to seat us quickly. She asked if we could leave our baby stroller outside, but my newborn grandson was sleeping in it so she accommodated us. We did state that if they couldn’t accommodate us we easily could find someplace else to eat and we were okay going somewhere else (it happens and it is not a big deal). We were seated and our server came to our table right away. He was new so he did not know how some of the menu items tasted, but other servers chimed in and provided us with some suggestions. The spinach dip was ooey gooey goodness!! The pizzas were delicious and I loved the Mac and cheese!! The margaritas weren’t the greatest. The three star rating would have been higher if the manager didn’t make it obvious that she disapproved of us having a stroller, yet she was accommodating for another family and their stroller. And what was with the towel wrapped around the pipe?
A pizza place you never want to miss. This is a must stop restaurant whenever we visit Banff. The pizza is sooooo delicious and has soft crust, it just melts in the mouth. The flavours are amazingly balanced. We have tried almost all type being served here and they were very open to accomodate our request for meat exchange. Super cooperative and happy staff here, but expect 15-20 mins of wait to get your pizza served coz its freshly prepared right away and is served right out of oven. Our favorites here are Big bird and Hawaiian. Seating is also really nice, love the patio section. We have always enjoyed eating here and will continue to keep coming. Everytime we had amazing experience and delicious food.Thankyou Tavern for being consistent. 🙂
This place was amazing. After a long hike, we wanted something good to eat. We came across this place; could not believe they had gluten free options. I had the soup of the day(GFso yummy. The big bird (GF Pizza).-Vega Approve✔️
Staff were very nice. Setting was comfortable. Cutlery and table were very clean. Had the spin dip and Hawaiian pizza. Definitrly try the hot oil and honey! The chips were super salty but the dip was excellent and the pizza was quite good as well.
Family friendly. Brought out 10 and 6 year old and they both enjoyed. Pizza was delicious. Service outstanding. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation. They were able to seat us at some high table seating so we could have drinks and order then they moved us to a table when it became available. Will be stopping here again.
My husband and I tried the Bear Street Tavern while visiting Banff and we had it for take out. First off the server we dealt with was very nice. The drinks we ordered were amazing, we wish we could get these in Ottawa. The pizza was good as well as the garlic fingers.
Good pizza. Try the Canadian & drown it in maple syrup--spunds weird but its delicious. Good beer selection too. Recommend booking ahead.
Food and service were great. Love everything we ordered: wings, beet salad, thin crust pizza...
All I can say is YES please. We had garlic fingers with bacon. So good. Dont sit by the door because they go through it for the patio and I was freezing the whole time. I will be back.
amazing pizza with very unique dip, which is honey with oil infused with rosemary. i ate the canadian which had bacon pepperoni mushroom and maple syrup. it sounds strange but its one of the best pizzas ive had
We visited Banff for the weekend and upon our arrival at the hotel, the front desk personnel saw us looking at a pizza flyer. She recommended Bear Street Tavern for their $12 special pizza night (Sunday and Tuesday nights from 5pm on).The hostess was very prompt and friendly. We were seated quickly. We ordered the Wheeler Hut and was given honey and chili oil to dip the pizza in. It was delicious! Pizza was served piping hot and the crust was the best Ive ever had. Not oily and perfectly crispy. We ended with the sticky toffee pudding.Worth a trip in for sure! We will be back!
Great place with relaxed atmosphere! We enjoyed a chill afternoon, had some nachos (just perfectand pizza (had better, but mind you, Im judging the gluten free one, which I know is a bigger challenge; still had better gf ones though). Would recommend adding better chilli/garlic oil or just stronger tasting ingredients.
My go to for Pizza whenever Im in Banff ! Great selection of Pizzas and Great Customer Service ! Give Their Garlic mozzarella Bread a try ! It can get quite busy during the weekends and food can take a while to come in my experience ! If you dont mind being patient and try to get a reservation before hand !
This is going to be a very weird comment but here it goes- we got the spinach cheese dip for appetizers and thats a 5/5, It was delicious, I could have it all day!We got garlic fingers for appetizers as well and it was 4/5 just a little bit greasy but still delicious! And for mains, we got 3 pizzas which were just horrible, 1/5! They were so greasy that the center of the slice just tore off, flavour was OKAY.. we got the godfather, big bird and the other name I completely forgot. After having all that greasy we were all feeling very sick.. the server was very nice but mentioned they are short staffed which is understandable for banff.Dont be deceived by the pictures they look really good! :P I would say when ordering just instruct them not to put so much oil
Awesome collection of beer and pizza. Not a lot of options for vegetarians but very pleased with their garlic bread and the combo of the chili oil and honey was something Ive never tasted before which really works with bread. Portion was HUGE definitely felt more like a meal than an appetizer! Would recommend if youre looking for a nice place to hang out with some beer, wine or pizza!
The Bear Street Tavern is a great place to go for delicious filling food and drinks! The patio is pet-friendly, and they give you a water bowl at your table for your dog/cat/pet! Great service, the food came hot and quickly. Their specialties are pizza and that is the truth! Definitely will be back to try more of the menu!Featured here:-The Big Bird pizza (bbq chicken, bacon, red onions, etc!)-The Margherita pizza (nut free spinach and basil pesto, tomatoes, sea salt, mozzarella)-Mac & Cheese (bbq pulled pork, tomatoes, green onions, 4 cheese, panko)
Quite simply the best pizza you’ll find for a long time. The combination of the chilli oil and honey they give you to dip your pizza in works perfectly for all the pizzas we tried. If you go, definitely get the Godfather and the one with the pine nuts and truffle oil. You won’t regret it
The service was friendly, fast and professional. We absolutely loved the pizza here. The pizza crust was perfect and I enjoyed the big bird and margarita pizzas but the wheeler hut was the best. The portions was bid and sharable. A bit pricy but it is 100% worth it. The air conditioner in the restaurant was not working properly but it maybe because we were there in the hottest day of 2021. All in all it was a great experience.
