The Bay Fish Co. - Fish and chips takeaway in Queenstown, Australia
This fish and chip shop doesn’t exist at 60, 70, or 160 esplanade. Don’t be fooled , especially at 160 esplanade, is just a pub
Our surprise was shared by the 8-10 patrons patiently waiting behind us when as we approached the order counter the ,"chef" announced loudly that there would be no more otders despite the premises advertising widely that it was open until 7.00,pm, still nearly a hour to go! Many had travelled significant distance to be treated so shabbily. Poor form!
WORST fish and chips weve ever had...Weve never actually left a google review before, but had to start now as this was so bad. Partner described it best no love. Cold crayfish, super fatty flavourless salmon, mushy skin, chips taste like theyve been cooked in oil thats ten years old. And sorry, but how can you call a handful of leaves, and 4 slices a cucumber a salad? No sauce, no seasoning on the chips, nothing. Waste of $50, dont go here if youre hungry!
I did not find the size of the fish ss announced. It reads 2 fish for the “large option” but there were 3 small buttered pieces. The portion of chips was not impressive. Price $15. It is a nice marine setup, attractive but ...
Fresh catch of the day.. Always yummy.. Lovely spot to sit and eat
This place was very popular which I see why with their seafood and prices.Got the cooked full Crayfish with grilled flake and chips, the crayfish was so fresh and tasty, absolutely one of the best crayfish Ive tasted. The grilled flake was tasty as well and thoroughly enjoyed.Highly recommended if in Strahan.
Great meal everytime. Menu is kept simple and cooked to perfection. I make it a point to buy a meal there every week. There are few places like this.Five stars all the way.
Fish & chips, made by the fishing family who catch the very fish they cook for you. Go early!
Good fish, chips could be better.
Good food
best fish and chips
Best takeaway fish n chips weve had I Tassie. Cooked beautifully and fresh produce. Keep up good work guys
Great fish and chips here had a lovely grilled trout, quick and easy , great service . Lovely welcoming people . Thanks , will definitely be back.
Tasty fish and chips for $10 - very reasonable price in Australia. Very busy, casual joint with a nice spot on the water.
The most incredibly fresh and delicious local caught fish, we had the grilled ocean trout, quality chips too!!
Fish was tasty, relaxing casual spot to grab a quick bite.
Beautiful fresh flake and yummy chips. Small pieces but cooked perfectly and good prices for fresh fish. Cool building!!
Amazing food. Really great service, and though there was a bit of a wait, that doesn’t matter because just outside of it is a 2 shipwrecks that are a blast to explore and have fun on. A great little beach area as well, and the after that FUN wait, the food is absolutely worth it. I will eat there as much as I can.
Dropped in for fish and chips on Wednesday evening. We got one piece of trout a serve of chips and a Greek salad for $31. Having never tried trout at all I was excited to experience the taste. I found it tasted like salmon and was absolutely delicious. The only reason I’m giving this a four rating & not five rating is because the trout was $17 for a piece that was smaller than a female palm of hand & as a Queenslander I think that’s expensive. Overall it was a really lovely place to get a takeaway from and the service was very friendly.
The Best Fish and Chips but needs some work.Came from Sydney as part of a trip of Tasmania. The battered fish was excellent. Juicy meat, crispy coating and tasted extremely fresh. 10/10However the octopus was disappointing. The flavor was great but the texture was extremely rubbery. The trout was overcooked and lacking in size, the portion of salad was also underwhelming for a 22 dollar meal. Thus bringing the review down to a 3.Tempura Battered Fish - 5/5Grilled Octopus - 2/5Trout - 3/5Chips- 5/5Service - 5/5
I was unimpressed with the limited seafood options (flake, trout or octopus). Quite expensive for what it was (take away dinner for two, no drinks, was $50). The trout wasnt deboned, which I would have liked.
Thus TOUGHEST Octopus we have ever eaten. Informed staff she said never had a complaint before wouldnt rectify. Other reviews tell a different story.
Really enjoyed the trout and chips I brought here. Massive piece of Trout and so so so fresh. Best I have ever had. Highly recommend this and the staff very very friendly and our dogs were allowed to sit outside with us...
Great seafood menus serving at this place. You can enjoy your food by the Bay and enjoy two shipwrecks by the shore. In fact you can sit on one of them because the bigger one is stucked solidly on the ground. The view of the sunset from here is simply gorgeous and stunning. Dont forget to have your seafood meal here if you are in Strahan Village. Cheers.
Great little business! Lovely set up with a food-truck style ordering point and self serve sauces and salts. We loved dining here on our one night stay in this gorgeous town. Their aioli sauce was amazing too!
A haunt known mainly to the locals, the food is value for money, and there are nice views.
Beautiful food, lovely staff, quirky atmosphere and Biodegradable utensils and containers.
I had the trout with salad while my husband the fish and chips. Could not fault the whole meal. Thanks for the service.
Ordinary chips, and small dry fish
Amazing food and wonderful people. The lovely women here recently went above and beyond to help my family when my youngest child hurt himself outside. We will never forget their kindness and fantastic food. Thank you Jess and your wonderful team. Highly recommended from the Willey family
It’s a great experience to eat here: delicious fish&chips - fresh catch of the day only, friendly owners and staff, awesome deco, down to earth. Loved it for a quick eat on the go!
Great spot for fish and chips in Strahan. Avoid the inflated meal costs offered by other local restaurants and come to The Bay Fish Co. for fresh seafood, prepared and loved by locals. Only a 2 minute wait, fantastic opening hours and self-serve sauces and chicken salt, how good!
Dont bother...tiny size meals for a hungry family of 4- very long wait n "over it" staff- go to Mollys cafe down the road for a better takeaway experience. Holiday families deserve better and will happily pay for a quality, substantial evening meal.😕
Warm, friendly atmosphere. Delicious fresh fish and chips. Very well priced. Worth your time and your taste buds.
The service is great and staff are fantastic
Super friendly, family-run business, great fresh, locally caught seafood. Simple, rustic benches to park your behind and a wood heater to warm your toes while the delicious food warms your belly. I will come again, highly recommend the no fuss, tasty meals and simple but reasonably priced menu. If you want a good feed and a friendly chat, drop in.
Jess the owner is very friendly and politeAnd the food was cooked to perfection great value for money
Very nice place. Very good prices. Tasty shark for $15. The fish was fresh and the service was really professional.
overpriced, limited range, but nice food what there was of it.
Really great fish, salad and chips. We ate here two nights in a row and could have kept eating there.
Gummy shark was meaty and cooked perfectly, chips were crunchy and had to be eaten hot. Octopus was tough, $5 for a small tub of coleslaw was rough. Thanks for the freshness!
This is a must if you want your local fish fix. So glad we chose to spend our money there. Good local food without the inflated prices. We shared the grilled octopus with grilled vegetables and the grilled trout with Nicoise salad.
Tasty well cooked fish and chips.
Solid grub. Bit pricey but you’re a captive audience in this town.
Worst fish and chips ever all went in the bin that much fat and grease on it, to eat it we would have to ring them out first. This character needs to do a course on cooking or maybe go to Hobart to see how its really done.Looking at photo below with fish and batter gives it away.
Great food, having a choice of seasoning for the chips was good, sauces, chicken salt and vinegar
Restaurant quality fish and chips (and morefrom a small waterside business in Strahan.
Great fish&chips and sublime smoked trout with nicoise salad, enjoy!
