The Bavarian World Square - German restaurant in Sydney, Australia
The Bavarian World Square in Sydney
Description
Privilege
Atmosphere and staff were amazing on the Friday night. Would definitely come back here again, thank you 😊
MoreAn average night turned to an unforgettable one! We had a true German experience our waiter Tammo walked us through the menu and talked us through the different German drinks and gave us some tips on orders. By far the best Bav experience ever. My man needs a promotion.
MoreFood is amazing, got a good experience here. Pictures are so colorful when they were taken with the restaurant view. Cant wait to come back for good german beers.
MoreTook the family here, we had a share platter for 5. The chicken schnitzel, pork belly slices and Kransky sausages were great, the frankfurter was lacking flavour however overall it was a great place and the staff were attentive and friendly ( the security/bouncer at the front was a real great guy too. I would definitely return
MoreI had a hamburger, it was ok. My wife ordered the schnitzel, it looked good and she loved it.
MoreAs a german I must say I am extremely disappointed. Had the kaesespaetzle and it tasted so blend, even hospital food is tastier. It was literally spaetzle in a watery sauce. No taste at all, it should be a strong nice cheesy taste. Friend had Gulasch soup, again it was a watery tomato soup with undercooked beef. Ita should darkish red to brown not red soup. Beef should fall apart in mouth and not chewy. Really shocking food! Do not recommend at all. Only thing is good is beer.
MoreSurcharge should be displayed clearly before we have to enter the venue. If I have to pay 6.5% extra at least have the decency to let me know
MoreThese guys have a flat 6.5% venue surcharge, at all their venues, at all days. Avoid them. There are many other places. Have been here a few times and have good memories but didnt notice this. Unacceptable to me. Not going to go there anymore.
MoreTo have an illegal 6.5% venue surcharge ontop of already expensive prices for mediocre food is disgusting. Let’s not forget being pushed to order on a QR code so not even being served by a person!
MoreThe security chief from Lebanon got a heater for the wife and children when it started to get a bit windy and chilly, much appreciated! Excellent service from the Nepalese waitress, I noticed she was constantly checking every table to make sure everyone was fine. Both their kind hospitality made our experience that much more pleasent. Love you guys!
MoreWhat is with their attitude and insane and illegal surcharge? Close this place down. Their bot-like replies are "we are SO sorry, please elaborate by sending us an email with more information" Nah Im good.. look through your reviews here. If you look through their photos here there is a menu pic that says every day there is a serivce fee applied of 5% - 10%, cant do this in Australia. Close this place down NOW
MoreTaste and quality below average, food hasnt got much to do with Bavarian. 6.50% Surcharge, why? (on a Wednesday lunch time)
MoreDear the management at The Bavarian,Me and 2 friends came to have drink and food, we was waiting too long time to have food, the food was getting cold when we started eating. When we asked one the floor staff, she igroned us during 2 hours dining, our table service didnt offer table water, we tried to called her, she looked at us and walk out like she didnt see anything. Her attitute is so rude. I am very dissapointed about everything so I will not visit this place again.
MoreFood is awful. See picture for $27 chicken parmigiana. Only came with one side. The schnitzel was smaller than my hand. Was also charged a credit card surcharge even though I didnt use a credit card. When questioned, staff just mumbled something and waved us away. This venue has gone downhill big time in the last few years. Strongly recommend going somewhere else.
MoreI remember going to the Bavarian years ago and rated it 5 stars - the food portions were big, the food was delicious, prices reflected so much value for money. We re-visited yesterday and were disappointed by portion size of a $27 parmi snitzel which was smaller than the size of my hand and only came with one small size.Service was really slow, I was aware there was a relatively new staff member who was being trained, however it doesnt take much to say "hi, we wont be long", I stood at the bar for at least 5 minutes watching a staff member teach him how to pour beers in front of me before even being acknowledged.I was then charged a credit card surcharge fee at the end, when I paid with a debit card. Also, there is a service fee charged every day which you wouldnt know unless you ready the tiny font at the bottom of the menu - 5% Monday to Saturday and 15% on Sunday.I really hope this was a one-off poor experience, disappointing when compared to other experiences years prior.
MoreThe place was pumping tonight, the service was tops and the food delicious. Thanks!
MoreGreat food and drinks. Music a tad too loud and a bit on the pricey side. Overall it was amazing.
MoreThe food was good but the service we received by Neeta was exceptional. She really did take time to listen to us and asked us multiple times if we were happy and satisfied. This is a big deal as often service is where a lot of places fail these days. Thanks for a nice night.
MoreSubjectively a little slow on the delivery of food however it just gave me more time to soak in the atmosphere, friendly staff interactions, great selection of drinks and spend even more time viewing what other people ordered setting off a chain reaction in getting more hungry. When my meal came it was to die for. Delicious.I dined with a group of 10 and everyone was happy with their meals.Ive been to other Bavarian locations within the franchise and I note their consistency. Well done.
MoreGot the lunch special shnitty. Mushroom sauce is too runny for my liking..If youre getting a pretzel make sure you get the side of the German cheese "OBATZDA"
MoreTuesday lunch, ordinary food, (really ordinaryand service. if you order via the app, not all lunch discounts apply so you need to order via staff member. They charge a 5% surcharge fee, for what?? no idea... We were 1 of 3 tables in the restaurant. When i asked what the service charge was for, was directed to the bottom of the menu. Perhaps increase the font size on all of your surcharges? Not recommended.
MoreIve only had some beer here but the dishes I see going out look great. The be tastes great as well with a great selection of German and Aussie beers. Upstairs at Works Square is close to the tram and trains.
MoreThe food was nice, however I wasnt happy with the service charge. The service was very mediocre, some of the staff just didnt seem to care and we had to ask for everything (share plates, water, cutlery). Theres also a QR code for you to order, which also forces you to pay the service charge. On top of that, there are other surcharges too. It comes across as very un-Australian to make it mandatory to pay a service charge especially when the tipping culture has no place here.
MoreFood was okay. Would I go back anytime soon? My answer is no.What really disappointing was the service charge was charged without our consent and as ATO states that service charge is voluntarily not compulsory. You have no right to randomly charge service charge. What you’re doing is really deceitful.
MoreFood and drinks are decent and the vibe is good.Be warned that there is a service fee charged every day - 5% Monday to Saturday and 15% on Sunday which you would only know if you saw the tiny text at the bottom of the menu. This is a disgusting practice and borderline illegal. I will be boycotting all Bavarian outlets and suggest you do the same to send a message that we wont stand for this sort of policy. Un-Australian...
MoreThe food is delicious and the staff is fantastic - really friendly and always make us feel welcomed and comfortable right away.Chef Komal and his team are very attentive and always cater for the costumers dietary requirements.
MoreThis is my FAVE spot for german food!!!! It’s so authentic and they have some seriously good dishes. You have to get one of the platters, it’s such good value for your money. I love the wurst choices and number one is always pork knuckle! Plus it’s always a buzzy vibe here - come with a group of friends and grab some german beer. Prost!
Morereclaiming my German pride 🇩🇪 here with an Oktoberfest-worthy spread at the @the.bavarian in 📍World Square! i loved the beers 🍻 buffalo wings 🍗 and the Mac and cheese croquettes 🤤check out my food instagram @erinxeats for more!
MoreLarge bar , for me its cold inside doors open . Sat at bar had a beer and chicken schnitzel. Good quality chicken its dry and theres not enough gravity to moisten the dish up asked for more gravy and its 4aud. NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT average ! Really 2.5 stars is the rating
MoreFirst of all, I have eaten at this place at least 5 times before. On 9 July, I promised my daughter to have pork knuckle and pork belly for dinner. My son booked a table online for 5 people.Around 6:30 pm, we were about to enter the restaurant. There was another group right in front of us, and they were entered in the restaurant easily without any questions, no ID checking, etc. (please check the CCTV).Standing in front of us a guard, with a smug face, asking for ID.Both of my sons live here in Sydney, and they are 23 and 21 years old, so they gave him their NSW photo ID. He checked using his flashlight (everything can be validated through the CCTV if you have any). Then he turned to me, asking for my ID; I said I’m not a resident here, I’m a visitor, and of course, I didn’t bring my passport for a simple dinner, and I’m more than 50 years old.Out of nowhere he pointed at me with his fingers and rudely asked to open my mask. What is the point? I just came here to have pork knuckle and pork belly; spend a few hundred dollars at the restaurant, and even my wife & my daughter don’t drink alcohol. I’m using a mask because I respect people around me.This is a very uncomfortable and shameful experience. I will never come to this place anymore. As a restaurant, they should give better services to their customers. Instead, they employ someone rude and discriminative. What a pity.
MoreMixed experience, they charge a service fee everyday but messed up my order and overcharged me. Rye bread in teller was very dry, sausages were good, chicken parmi also good, apple strudel rather average.
MoreDefinitely enjoyed my german feast at the barvarian. The staff were all very friendly and checked up on us several times. Highly recommend the munich platter - you get a bit of everything (the pork crackling was amazingand definitely do not miss out on their amazing desserts!
MoreFood was alright, although not worth $30. I am sure my schnitzel was undercooked in some parts. A bit disappointed considering I enjoyed eating at other Bavarians
MoreI popped in for dinner at the Bavarian in World Square on a Friday night. The Big Red drink is definitely my favourite and perfectly paired with a warm pretzel. The food is mediocre at best and lacking any kind of flavour at all. The inside area is freezing even with the doors closed and lacks any kind of atmosphere. It is so loud inside you can’t even hear yourself speak.
MoreThe name of the place suggests that it is a German restaurant - its not. The entire menu has almost no German food on it (except 2 items - pork knuckle, sausages). I expected some great German food, but it was just another Aussi pub menu place. Loads of Schnitzel with fries, burgers and other pub food.I have been at this place many years ago and remembered it to be quite good and to have some traditional German food. Not anymore - even their website now reads: The Bavarian brings a German-inspired, Aussie-embraced dining experience. So if you like to taste some German food - go elsewhere.
MoreA peculiar place this was, sharing its floorspace with another place (which fortunately wasnt open). On the small side inside, and with the wild weather outside, it was lucky we booked.Service was excellent. Friendly and efficient. Impressive.Chicken Scnittys and Parmi were, apparently, really good.Cheeseburger very good.I was a little disappointed with my pork belly though.Mash was a little cold, as was the pork.Anyway, another nice experience on holiday in Sydney.
MoreExcellent service. Beer was cold, food arrived quickly. Easy to order.Fantastic lunch specials on offer.
MoreCocktail was disappointing. Food was hot and tasty. Online ordering only was bad. Nobody to answer questions. Fees etc after order placed. We booked with table service!
MoreI was in the mood for a vegetarian schnitzel parmigiana like I had enjoyed at Schnitz in Melbourne, and thought that I’d give Bavarian’s confit mushroom a try.Don’t.There was nothing wrong with the crumbed mushroom, it actually would be quite nice when they serve it as a burger as the toppings would tie the flavours and textures well. As a parmigiana, it lacked sufficient sauce and cheese to provide flavour. It came with a large wedge of lemon which would normally be served with a plain wiener schnitzel, not a parmi. The fries served with it were in a crispy coating that was OK, and the tomato sauce I requested was possibly the tastiest part of the meal. The slaw was neither German nor American, just white cabbage with a few shreds of purple cabbage in too much mayo with barely any zing, crunch or flavour. The outdoor patio (heated and partially covered in inclement weatherwould be a great place to come after work from 4-6 with mates for some $5 bevvies, accompanied by the 80’s/90’s rock classics at a not obtrusive volume.Price/value comparison: Fair.Table ordering on smartphone or counter ordering available. Staff were friendly and helpful. I might return to try the cauliflower wings another time, but wouldn’t attempt the pizzas with so many incredible pizzerias in Sydney.
MoreFood, drinks & atmosphere were great. The staff were also very helpful & friendly. Love the Bavarian here & the manly one too!
MoreI had an amazing experience there! The food was delicious! The German beers available are so good! And the customer service incredible! Annie, the manager, and staff helped us with everything we needed. The venue was busy but even though it was perfect. Thanks for the good time! I really enjoyed! : )
MoreTremendous value if you go during happy hour or schnitty Wednesday. Order via app (it counts as an amex shop small). German beers are awesome but only 500ml or 1l, other beers have 3 sizes. I liked my american schnitzel, loved the Jack Daniels BBQ sauce on the side. Highly recommend the beer paddle
MoreHusband saw the ad on ozbargain saying that theres 10 aud schnitzel festival at the bavarian so we caught on a train to city and paid a visit here. Ordered two schnitzels and one beer via the smart ordering system. The dishes came out when I was just about to write a complaint on Google and we had almost 30 min wait. However it turned out that it worths waiting. The chicken schnitzels are crunchy and yummy with the right sides. Will definitely come back again.
MoreAbsolutely delicious ! Portions are huge and pretty hefty. Was satisfied with my meat platter (shared it with a friend, one platter is good enough for two). Meat was juicy & flavourful, almost felt like I was on vacation with every single bite. Their outdoor seating is wonderful and customer service was bubbly and friendly. Overall, a must-place to visit thatll leave you in a great food coma :Definitely will visit again !
More10c Chicken wings on National Chilli Day = Bargain. The savoury and sweet pretzels are always a winner and must have.Would recommend reserving a table if you are a large group. Its made the upstairs area of World Square more lively and busier atmosphere!
MoreGood place to get your fix of German beers & food. They have a good & fairly extensive selection of beers. The food in general was pretty good - only a couple of the accompaniments were disappointing. The potato mash was bland and under seasoned, and the Jus provided with the platters had no flavor at all.
MoreNumber of German beers tried,8 till now in numerous occasions. Awesome place to chat and gather with friends with new taste in hands.Food looked awesome, order some foods and mainly pork belly, with chef friend. We both knew we have had better in cheaper price.PS: try for shots of different beers of your choice. You will have fun.
MoreTerrific location in the heart of the city. We had the all you can eat schnitzel board for $39 pp and it was delicious. The service was outstanding and the staff were very friendly. Plenty of other options to pick from on the menu and cant wait to return and try the sausage platter. Plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. Feels like a little oasis amongst all the concrete and steel.
MoreGood food, great beer. Went for the glass boots event. Was told to order at the bar. The gentleman at the bar told me to wait at the counter in the bar. I did, every time. It appears that the bar is understaffed. No big deal. I did my best to facilitate the bartender. However, what I do not accept is that everytime, I was served after the people who showed up behind me and I averaged at least 15mins each time I needed to make an order. The final time when I needed to pay the bill, the bartender served an entire group of people who came to the bar after me and a few other couples with their order before finally coming to me.This wait time is unacceptable and it is a shame when you tell your customers to wait at the counter and then ignore them completely when they do.Please find attached the beautiful glass boots, food and wait time.
MoreMango beer is always my go-to drink, but this time we headed there for desert, (and mango beer too!). We had the pretzel doughnut and apple strudel. In my opinion, a bit pricey for the quality of the desert. Ordinary taste, didnt surprise me.
