Petra, The basin restaurant، Colonnaded St, Wadi Musa, Jordan, Ma'an
The Basin Restaurant - Restaurant in Ma'an, Jordan
They serve a fantastic buffet at such a historicical site. Beer and wine available too!
Nice place for a drink and bite to eat. Interestingly also the first place in Jordon where the staff deliberately tried to rip us off. But luckily it came to light because we decided to pay by card and not cash, so suddenly everything was normal price again. Maybe a good plan to pay by card here 👍
Ideal place to stop and be refreshed before heading out again on the track.
watch out for money change scam. attendant with a crown shirt asked me where I was from and asked if I could change a $50 bill for him. the bill looked fake, I just kept walking.
You cant really expect much from a tourist trap deep in Petra, so I was pleasantly surprised. Hot foods are bland, but salads are solid (especially the hummus), chicken wings are excellent, and the price is reasonable for the variety of what you get.
very nice buffet
After a long hike, this place has an amazing and relaxing view. The staff was super welcoming -despite the rush hour-. Our server Abood, really sweet and attentive!F
The restaurant is situated on the end of the Hadriantor.I had a delicious lunch with a open buffet with lots of varieties of everything.Abdullah, Omar was very nice. I just can suggest this restaurant after a long walk in Petra, the price is reasonable for the food variety they have. I went both days while i visited Petra.
It’s fine. The location is great, but in all honesty I’m not sure how this is operated by Intercontinental Group / Crown Plaza. The salads are fresh, the warm dishes are really whatever, and the deserts are absolutely weird and taste fake. It’s ok to have a drink but the 14JOD to get the buffet is way overpriced.
Horribly infested with flies, and horrid hygeine standards. Their outside area is so bad its actually a health hazard. Unfortunately, this spills to the inside dining area where you are expected to swat away the stray flies that made it inside from the buffet. For a Crown Plaza run establishment, I would have expected far better than this.
Staff is very nice and helpfulThere is free WiFiFood is delicious, it is local and international.Very good deserts
Ideal locationVery good food and large varietyExcellent desertsStaff is very niceClean spot
Great group of people. Very welcoming and accommodating. Abood hooked it up. Awesome spot.
Very good service, good guys Omar and Abdullah!! We advice any one coming here to visit this restaurant .
This place is a Tourist Zoo, Circus and Train station combined into one inside Petra. Understaffed for the amount of tourists. Its a buffet and food options are excellent if you are trying to get diarrhea. One side is full of cold salads, mezze and dips. I was terrified to touch any of these cold food given it was 106F outside, and the amount of flies buzzing around was roughly equal to the amount of tourists here. Also, none of the food was covered so you could count on having some good sweat and spit from every corner of the globe in these cold dishes. The "hot" food options was only dried out chicken, rice and terribly looking and smelling fish (refer to my plate). The third section of the buffet had decent selection of dessert but who wants dessert when you cant even get a decent food in first. The lunch option was included in our tour cost so I cant comment on the price but I promptly called my tour guide and told him that I would rather die than eat here. He informed me that he will take me to another place and he did. Diarrhea avoided!
So much better than the place opposite (the ‘buffet in a cave’ - a dreadful rip off and frankly the worst food we had in Jordan), the Basin is the only game in town within the Petra site, and is actually very good value. Don’t waste your time trying to get a decent lunch anywhere else…
good food and clean not bad the servaice wc is too small
Delicious!
Operated by crown plaza hotel, the Basin restaurant is the best choice for you when you are spending a full day enjoying the new 7 wonder of the world. What makes it more special is the location, it is located at the end of the main trail and right before the Iconic monestry hike! This makes it the perfect choice for anyone who wants to enjoy Petra to the max and get some much needed energy before enjoying the rest of the day at the site.Food allergies? Dont worry, the restaurant provides an all you can eat daily buffet that includes 18 salads and cold mezza, 6 hot dishes with your choice of chicken, beef, fish and vegetables, 8 desserts and fresh fruits. They also accept credit cards and serve alcohol.
Water and two pepsis for 7,4 JOD?! Just buy the water from annoying locals for half of the price.
Simple menu but nice. Its inside Petra, 30min en route to the Monastery. Good place to chill and have some food/drinks (they have a bar here), before heading off to the Monastery. Restaurant comes with toilet.
We were quite disappointed by the sandwich selection. They were very dry, and the chips were quite oily and soggy. Beware also, the Falafel option is literally just two falafel squashed into some bread, nothing exciting. It’s also a massive shame the restaurant had no more juices to offer and only had the standard US-style Coca-Cola drinks. It would be much nicer to have a fresher, healthier menu with proper homemade drinks! Two stars as the terrace and outdoor setting was at least nice.
Good restaurant for much needed food / drink during exploration of Petra. Friendly and helpful staff. Simple menu but nice food. Was still quiet but will hopefully return to previous levels (pre-Covid). Toilets could be cleaned more frequently.
Would you like to pay 9€ for a beer??It’s the only restaurant in Petra and unfortunately it’s a tourist trap and they would rip you off for anything.Shame
Jídlo formou bufetu za 17 JOD na osobu. It is not busy, but all tables reservation. Personell not interested to serve to you appart from payment situation.
The Buffet restaurant is really touristy. The food is okay but not special. And the price is high. The main focus is on serving large tourist groups. So why should you go there? Because the location is a perfect rest after hiking to the monastery. You can have a break from the "tourist guides"/sellers/baggars and the AC helps as well. The buffet offer a large selections of salads, main dishes and deserts so everybody finds something. The staff is professional.
Nice location but very expensive !! An instant coffe and a tea 6 JD plus 1 JD service.
The rudest staff I have ever seen. One the waiters yelled at us and threw the bill in our faces.
The seller stands have much better attitude than this "restaurant". Should be open till 16:00 (which is ridiculous anyway for Petra), but at 15:30 we got nothing to drink there (they sell only drinks in cansince "were closed already". So really no, not good attitude here.
The best restaurant in Petra the serve buffet style.
Down in petra needs more Cleaning.. Staff is good and helpful
Great location for a rest after visiting Petra and while deciding to go up to the Monastery or after. They serve a nice (expensivebuffet. They are the only place that sells alcoholic drinks in Petra. Have clean bathrooms and you can use the seating outside if you bring your own lunch. Closes early.
Best buffet in petra
This is a very pleasant spot to have a rest. Under the thick shadows of the tree you can have a drink and relax. However, this is a big tourist trap as its very expensive.
Eat your lunch here after you start walking from the early morning. It cost 17 JOD per person excluding drinks. Its an open bufet.
Avoid this place as much as you can. Its an obvious tourist trap - its the only decent eating option on the Petra main trail and its a bad value for money. Although the setting is nice, the food is average and the service is mediocre. Its a safe option and the food is enough to fill you up, but the price you pay for it is exorbitant. The better option is to get something packed from your hotel or from an outside restaurant.
Overpriced tourist trap — paid around 3€ for a badly tasting nespresso. Their WiFi works decently, hence the 2 stars.
This is the second option for having lunch inside Petra archeological Park. The price per person is 17 JOD ( about $25.00excluding any drinks. Food and assortments is much better the the other restaurant, especially when it comes to alcohol drinks.
The better option out of the 2 available restaurants available inside Petra. While the choice of food in this buffet isnt great, what is available is good and safe to eat.On top of that, the inside part of the venue is air conditioned, making it a great place to catch your breath and regain some energy to continue exploring Petra. The toilets available here are clean and they also offer currency exchange services.
Friendly staff and very good place to have lunch and rest after the long walk in PetraClean and nice food and beverage
Amazing staff!! Cold drinks! Everyone is super friendly. If you come to Petra you must come here. Absolutely fantastic!
Terrible service, and then theyre the only place in Petra that charges for service - after making people wait half an hour for a bottle of water! Go anywhere but here.
Pretty good. They had allergy information, and enough food (very good chicken wings!). Would rate it less if it was in the middle of a city, but its way more than what I would have expected from a small restaurant at a touristic attraction. Cats were everywhere, and were not treated very nicely.
Visited on our first day in Petra, Friday 6th April. They had no hot water to make tea or coffee and had no change to allow us to buy anything else. Then they closed at 3:30pm. Useless, and our only negative experience during 15 days in Jordan.Ive only given them one star because the review system wouldnt let me give them no stars.
They know they have monopolized the park and duly treat customers rudely. We came here for a drink, and possibly lunch, the waiter said they weren’t serving lunch yet and said we could get a drink but had to move to a different patio, so we did, and when we ordered drinks they said they weren’t open yet. So apparently they open at 10:10? It all seems like an avoidable experience if people would just give you all the information.
They offer buffet lunch for 16JD. Food was ok. Not fantastic but not bad. Not a bad option to eat inside Petra. But def would not be my pick if it was elsewhere. Buffet is only available inside the rest. But there is ample outdoor sitting, some with shade. There were some 8 or so salad options, bread, white rice, a fish dish, a beef dish, some kind of roasted chicken, the upside down dish, some steamed veggies, random pasta dish, roasted potato s, and a dessert bar. Service was fine. Free wifi.
Food was great and refreshing after hiking and staff was friendly and great. Expect to pay for location too, youre basically in the middle of ancient Petra.
The staff were throwing stones at a neighbourhood cat; besides that the service is appalling to match their overpriced menu items.
Strange to find this in the middle of the site - but welcome! We only took a break from the sun here - did not get anything major to eat..but was great to see in the distance!! :-A good stop before the mountain climb!
This place is managed but the Crown Plaza, they offer a Buffett lunch from 12-4 daily and there serve alcohol. Plus they have free Wifi.
