Modern, family-friendly bar and eatery for drinks and an eclectic menu of unfussy comfort food.
Plenty of parking, good menu choices, good food and service. Reasonable pricing, children friendly. Nice gardens.
Food was great. Service was underpar due to training new staff but understandableHighly recommended the roast dinner.
Meal and service was good.Wanted a roast dinner but only had roast pork i thought maybe have 2 meats on , so abit dissapointed.
Friendly staff, good food, superb outdoor area. Dog and kid and vegetarian friendly; was ideal for my old dads eightieth birthday gathering. Lovely old building, too.
Great service and food , will definitely be back 😋
Great vegetarian menu. Cauliflower with pea purée was delicious. Staff efficient and friendly and helpful. Prices fair. Lovely ambiance. Great for ladies who lunch or for a nice meal for two.
Table booking was offered at 730 and accepted on a Monday, staff obviously finish at 9 as by about 830 we were practically having things thrown over to us to finish up.A very delicious sounding home made with steak mice burger was ordered. My daughter also ordered a childrens beef burger. When the order came out both burgers came out the same, the childrens one was as expected. When I asked the waiter if this was correct as I was expecting a home made burger with mince as the menu the response was, sorry it was not what I was expecting.
Food was OK. Veggie options were the generic, but OK.It would be great to see more range with non meat based meals.
Food was a bit cold and parts of order were incorrect. Asked waitress which type of fish was in the ‘battered fish & chips’ listing on the menu, hoping she could answer and she replied ‘battered’. Poor girl didn’t understand the question, I said ‘haddock’ or ‘cod’? She looked extremely puzzled and still answered with “it’s battered fish”. However, I believe the quantity and quality of the food is not reflective on prices. Portion sizes are rather small yet more expensive than last year and the restaurant appears to be operating a reduced menu. Example of this was, mum’s salad was served in a small bowl and charged at £13.95. Steak pie was not an option, so few family members let down as it was available at an earlier date. Menu appears to have lots of seafood dishes and was also unappealing for family members who can’t eat this sort of food.Restaurant seating area was really dark and cold. We were seated next to a fire escape and felt draughty. Staff were polite and mannerly whilst serving. The food bill was astronomical and heavily overcharged. This factor on its own has put me off now. It’s a shame to have to say this review but it’s just not the same place it was last year.
Lovely meal as always. Restaurant manageress friendly and welcoming as always.Sadly, table service let you down again. Asked for coffee twice, then left as it arrived! No apology.
Menu a poor reflection of what it was a few years ago which probably says it about the whole place. Food was poor, service was ok. Conservatory also closed due to lack of staff. Much better fayre to be had locally. Shame as was our place to go when visiting.
Arrived a little late due to work ,however the staff were great and got us in to eat ,friendly ,helpful, all round a good experience, would happily call again ,food was excellent, service above and beyond
Absolutely amazing food, great friendly staff beautiful outside area, hopefully well be working up here again and fit in another visit
Been 5 times and 5 TIMES YOUR HEAD WAITRESS HAS BEEN CHEEKY TO US IF ITS NOT US ITS HER STAFF SHE BRINGS THE BALGARTH DOWN
I thought it was a bit expensive the service was not that good either didnt like the fact they allowed dogs right next to where we were eating
Food was a little late in being delivered due to a problem with the check being delivered to the kitchen but overall experience was positive
Very welcoming team, food was amazing with very good prices, service was superb and always keen to help out.
Fantastic food at reasonable prices. Highly recommend
Nice food, dog friendly, attentive staff.
First time visit the prawns salad and burger was delicious Special THANKS for Beatrice,Unfortunately couldnt set out side, Godwilling will come back
Had a nice lunch here in the lovely garden. We had our 2 dogs with us who were made very welcome
Really good service. On a personal note, the menu didnt have anything jump out at me. Group I was with werent disappointed.
It was lovely, just wish there was more lobster in the dish.
Fantastic pub. Excellent food and not too expensive. Lovely gardens to sit out in when weather allows.
Had a fabulous afternoon tea today. Lovely food, delicious cakes and great service. Highly recommend.
I had delicious fish and chips and everyone elses food was good too. Lovely garden setting for family eating 😋
Lovely place to eat and the staff were fantastic. 10/10
Stopped here for breakfast. To be honest wasn’t the best for breakfast but I have been here many evenings for dinner and has been fabulous many times over ..maybe just a bad day 😊
The service was friendly and efficient. The food was absolutely delicious my only gripe is that we didnt visit this place earlier in our holiday so we would have had the opportunity to go again!
We booked for a special family get together and unfortunately we experienced untrained staff, wrong meals delivered, meals un eatable and sent back and worse of all broken glass on the carpet under our toddlers high chair. Wont be back
As soon as wee arrived got a seat the staff are pretty much on the ball the only little tiniest thing is the disabled access please make it more understanding we had to guess the entrance door into restaurant but tiny details apart from that oh and the plates I thought it was a black tray oh the mac n cheese was awesome and highly recommended very impressed overall.
Just had a lovely meal but service poor, they came to take our dinner order and we hadnt even asked if we wanted a drink after sitting 20 mins. The service let you down
Nice restaurant in a nice part of the town .The waitress had mentioned they were short staffed but we would never have known because the service was quick and efficient .Also very reasonably priced .We will definitely be back .Food was lovely .
We ate here today and the service was great, the restaurant was very smart inside and the staff were very attentive and welcoming. We were shown straight to a table and the waiter was straight over for drinks orders, we had a few minutes with the menu and the waitress was straight over to take our food order, shortly followed by our drinks. For food the kids had macaroni and cheese with fries and fruit shoots to drink, adults had Sunday dinner and Cajun chicken pizza. The portion sizes were very good value for money and lovely and hot and it didnt take long from ordering. The waiting staff came to check our meal was good and they were quick to take our used plates away and sort us the bill as we were in a rush. Overall the prices for everything was reasonably priced and the service was fantastic, very impressed and we will be returning, thanks.
Very pleasant location with smart clean decoration, the gardens are looked after and landscaped . Food was good value and well prepared. Service was prompt and polite. They had a discounted kids menu which always helps!Recommended for a family meal.
A very nice restaurant . food was explant, service was fast and the staff were friendly. Nice atmosphere to have a nice chilled meal. Will defo be back
Great service and lovely food. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Popped in for a bowl of soup and cup of tea with my daughter after long cold walk. From the minute we entered felt like the blonde who greeted is was looking down her nose at us which made it uncomfortable. The soup was lovely but this ladies attitude ruined it for us so we left quicker instead of relaxing and enjoying the experience. The guys on the bar were different smiles and respectful. Nor sure if we will return which is a shame as its literally on our doorstep and could be our new local.
We booked Boxing Day dinner for family of four and the atmosphere, staff and food were excellent as alway found at the Balgarth Pines. The meal, we all had 3 courses each with large portions and all cooked to perfection.Excellent value for money and leave with my stomach full of excellent well cooked food.Highly recommended for everyone to attend.
Many years since eating in the Balgarth. Pleasantly surprised the different areas available to eat within the hotel as well as a large garden area with enclosed play area for children. The staff were very welcoming and helpful offering comfortable surroundings with tasteful decor. Varied menu covering all tastes and extensive wine list. I had steak and ale pie served with root vegetables and mushy peas. It was absolutely delicious and was surprised to find not the usual flaky pastry but a watercrust pastry filled with steak and onions topped with piped mash potato and crispy onion. Look forward to definitely going back to try other dishes.
Fantastic food, I am lost for words at the quality of the food it was just amazing.
There were 3 adults and 2 children in our group. We had booked a table for inside but as it was such a lovely night asked to be seated outside this was not a problem. We found the staff very friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. It was clean plates all round and still had room for pudding. Strawberry cheesecake for me and sticky toffee pudding for the children. Would definitely go again.
Excellent service, food and setting.
Great homemade pizza and pleasant staff. Lovely outdoor seating area.
Great food, lovely outdoor area with swings and obstacle course for kids, great prices too.
Lovely traditional style . Friendly staff. Desserts were delicious. Will definitely return to try out more from the menu.
Great food, great service, would of been happy to pay full let alone with uncle boriss discount. Venue feels well laid out given particular adherence to covid measures which feels reassuring.
Excellent food and service. Very clean with a lovely building and well kept large outside area.
