Casual rooms in a traditional inn featuring an informal restaurant & a bar.
The Anchor in Bridgeport
Description
Really enjoyable meal in very pleasant surroundings. Very friendly staff too.
A lovely old traditional pub, with lots of wood and dog friendly 🐾🐾👌
What a delightful find - now this is the pub to attend, it is homely, welcoming and although they do food they do it the right way. It feels like a pub that serves food and not a restaurant trying to be a pub - please do not change - you are lovely just the way you are and are certainly our favourite out of the two premises in the villageThank you
MoreVisited for an evening meal. Chose whitebait for starters and roasted hake for mains, both excellent! Great menu for both fish and meat and a good selection of beer too!
MoreLovely friendly staff, didnt book a table but happy to accommodate us. Lovely seafood.
MoreLovely pub great atmosphere. Unfortunately we were unable to book a table but menu looked lovely.
MoreSuperb seafood. Not to be missed. 5* pub
Wonderful seafood with lovely staff, what more could you ask for. Book early to get a table.
MorePulled into the car park and saw two picnic benches and an old caravan that appeared to have someone living in it.Assisted a group of people who apparently had all travelled from Lincolnshire to stay at the Anchor. As the back door was locked. Showed them the door around the front, and entered allowing them to be helped first as they where elderly.I Was impressed with the selection of Thatchers products on draught. The man behind the bar did not seem able at all to raise any kind of smile (presumably the landlord). I asked if I he could accomodate 9 for dinner. He said he was full that evening. so looking at the menu, and not wanting to miss out on what looked like great food. I asked if we could book in on any of the following 4-days.He asked how many for and I responded by saying 9. He looked around and said he couldnt fit that many on one table. I suggested putting a couple of tables together and pointed out them to him, which would have worked. His response was a little surprising. "What happens if someone is sat behind you? They wont like that!"Not quite sure what that was to mean. Such a shame that the one person that was thir to offer some hospitality had not a clue how to do so. Very poor service, Best of luck out of tourist season in the winter months with that attitude!Very Rude welcome and poor people skills.Did give an impression that he did not want children dining there.
MoreA great pub🙂Friendly staff and some very well kept drinks on offer🙂
Had to walk further to this pub, the Red Lion being closed all day on Mondays, good service, dog friendly, meals available. Good range of ales.
MoreFood was amazing and dogs were very welcome
Lovely village pub, great choice of ales. My pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord was perfect
MoreExcellent staff, nice bar, restaurant and garden. Very dog Friendly .
We came here for a meal. I had scampi and chips which I enjoyed. Hubby had fish and chips, he likes crispy chips and felt these were a little bit soggy. A pint and a half of blackcurrant and soda water cost us 4.95, not impressed. That was 1.85 for mine and I can get it in spoons for 35p. A pub just down the road charge me 1.00. Thats more like it for a non chain establishment.
MoreGreat pub great beers bit expensive for a real ale but beer was good, locals and everyone friendly
MoreNot quite as other reviews make it out to be… went there for a meal, sat down quickly and menus handed out swiftly then a long old wait for orders to be taken even for the drinks!Food was very slow, we weren’t asked how the meal was, they didn’t check on the table for more drinks, request to substitute tartar sauce for mayo was lost and food wasn’t actually anything special.Specials are somewhat outrageous in price, with a simple steak costing upwards of £35–not really in line with the rest of the pricing on the main menu.I’d consider returning for drinks but I think I might try elsewhere for an evening meal.
MoreWe only popped in for a drink because it was raining, lovely menu caters for all .
MoreVery friendly staff. The food was amazing, totally faultless. I would highly recommend!
MoreFantastic meal. Fresh fish. Excellent portion size. Big choice on menu. Good customer service. Give it a try...
MoreWe visited here whilst on holiday and what an absolute gem of a pub!!! We found the Anchor by chance but so happy we did!!Great atmosphere and superb service, nothing was too much trouble even though we were a party of 7 and 2 dogs. And to top it all off the food was absolutely beautiful, the crab was the best Ive ever tasted and plenty of it!!! All meals and drinks were great!!Highly recommend 👌🏻
MoreFriendly pub. Good choice of beers and ciders. A good way to quench the thirst on a pleasant walk.
MoreAmazing foodChoice of 3 sizes of wholeI had the medium size £18.95Great service 😁
MoreJust called in for a pint but loved it.Nice landlord and friendly customers.
Very well presented and very tasty. Would recommend. Will go back.
Great food, friendly staff, liked it so much booked again!
Food excellent, Liked it so much we are going back ❣️
Only went for a drink, but the lunchtime meals looked great, so we booked for an evening meal and it didnt disappoint. Food excellent, large drinks choice and excellent service.
MoreVery good food, salmon was superb, staff very friendly and welcoming.
Really great meal here. Price reasonable compared to the quality and service. The team seem very dedicated
MoreFab meal pate exceptional sea bass stunning sorry we couldnt have dessert
Great place for a pint and chat with the very friendly locals and staffAnd they do amazing seafood as well
MoreThe food is excellent. Don’t be fooled by the menus you might see online that look like fairly traditional pub fare; the specials are amazing and consist mostly of locally caught seafood that is cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend.
MoreJust had dinner here. Fish and shellfish to be recommended as was the steak. Good beer and wine selection. Live music a bonus.
MoreWhat a find a real pub with excellent food. Ales but most important lives up to 5 star rating
MoreTook our American friends there yesterday, food was excellent, and the staff were very friendly. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
MoreAdditional to the nice B&B there is an extraordinary seafood restaurant.Fresh seafood prepared as it deserves. Very tasty. Thanks a lot for the good time.
MoreHad an amazing meal here, we found this place by accident, and of a 10minute walk from Freshwater Bay campsite. Rigidly helpful staff, nice range of local beers and ciders. I would recommend booking a table in advance. We went mad and ordered the seafood platter for two, it was enormous, we could probably have shared a single one! Whole lobster, whole (bigcrab, scallops, mussels, prawns in garlic, prawns in breadcrumbs, salad, fresh bread! Absolutely stunning, and very very tasty!
MoreAlways good to visit the Anchor. An interesting variety of dishes. And a good selection at the bar. I went for a light snack lunch - had lovely fat whitebait with salad. I was lucky at this quiet time of year. Otherwise, its best to phone for a booking, just in case.Theres outside seating and a small car park at the side. Worth a detour.
MoreOur 1st meal out locally since we moved here in November.....didnt dissapoint! Food plentiful flavourful and we left full 😋 Lovely staff and venue . Will definitely be returning with friends and the dog. #lensomy
MoreA great welcoming village pub/restaurant/accommodation. I was lucky to have spent a weekend near the sea and The Anchor didnt disappoint with really good food friendly staff and location is ideal for beach walks. Wood burners give the warm cosy feel you want in the colder nights. Plan on returning and might take kids with me next time. 🤔
MoreWhat a lovely little pub! Beer and cider was on point and the food was well above average. Dogs welcome with loads of treats to keep them happy. Plus, we were the last table in for lunch so got a few extras. ( book your table for 3 30pm if this appeals to you!The staff are so friendly and made use feel at home. I would recommend anyone to come here. A big thank you to all the staff!!!!!
MoreIf seafood Is your favourite then this place is a must. They also have other foods but the seafood is caught fresh and served up that day and is outstanding in my opinion. Served with a warm welcome.
MoreWhat a fantastic find, really friendly staff, great choice of food including lots of fresh fish. The food was prepared extremely well and tasted fantastic. A definite place to visit when you are in the area.
MoreNever been to The Anchor before but thought wed try it. For lunch, my husband had crab and I had half a lobster. The food was superb and the service excellent. The team was very friendly and helpful. Will be back to try other dishes as they all sound so scrumptious.
MoreGreat friendly staff, very welcoming and brilliant service. Food was absolutely divine, best steak Ive ever had, mainly a seafood restaurant, so if you like seafood its the best place to go....dishes looked amazing!!Highly recommend to anyone, but make sure you book its very popular!
MoreVery friendly, bit over the top on their darlings, sweet, love greetings which unless you are used to being called that its very irritating. The food I saw looked ok but the chips were over done but Ive never eaten there. Seems popular though.
MoreFood absolutely excellent, and enjoyed the visit & we will return. But, know its difficult times and 10pm closing puts a lot of pressure on the staff, but serving staff could have been a bit more positive throughout for example not served the main dishes we had waited for with the comments that you might have to take them away at only 9:25. Come on girls we are all taking a risk in coming out and supporting and enjoying the hospitality industry, we are all in this together.
MoreStopped in here as it was close to our campsite and was not sure where to eat. Between us we had 4 different machines off the menu and we were all very impressed. Delicious meals and very generous portion sizes. Well definitely visit again.
MoreHad a fantastic meal here last weekend. We live only a few miles away but hadnt visited for a few years but the food, staff and ambience was still as good as it always was. All of us said how much we enjoyed both the starters and the main courses and we just didnt have room for pudding. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the welcome back we received was wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Would highly recommend.
