What a delightful find - now this is the pub to attend, it is homely, welcoming and although they do food they do it the right way. It feels like a pub that serves food and not a restaurant trying to be a pub - please do not change - you are lovely just the way you are and are certainly our favourite out of the two premises in the villageThank you

Visited for an evening meal. Chose whitebait for starters and roasted hake for mains, both excellent! Great menu for both fish and meat and a good selection of beer too!

Pulled into the car park and saw two picnic benches and an old caravan that appeared to have someone living in it.Assisted a group of people who apparently had all travelled from Lincolnshire to stay at the Anchor. As the back door was locked. Showed them the door around the front, and entered allowing them to be helped first as they where elderly.I Was impressed with the selection of Thatchers products on draught. The man behind the bar did not seem able at all to raise any kind of smile (presumably the landlord). I asked if I he could accomodate 9 for dinner. He said he was full that evening. so looking at the menu, and not wanting to miss out on what looked like great food. I asked if we could book in on any of the following 4-days.He asked how many for and I responded by saying 9. He looked around and said he couldnt fit that many on one table. I suggested putting a couple of tables together and pointed out them to him, which would have worked. His response was a little surprising. "What happens if someone is sat behind you? They wont like that!"Not quite sure what that was to mean. Such a shame that the one person that was thir to offer some hospitality had not a clue how to do so. Very poor service, Best of luck out of tourist season in the winter months with that attitude!Very Rude welcome and poor people skills.Did give an impression that he did not want children dining there.

We came here for a meal. I had scampi and chips which I enjoyed. Hubby had fish and chips, he likes crispy chips and felt these were a little bit soggy. A pint and a half of blackcurrant and soda water cost us 4.95, not impressed. That was 1.85 for mine and I can get it in spoons for 35p. A pub just down the road charge me 1.00. Thats more like it for a non chain establishment.

Not quite as other reviews make it out to be… went there for a meal, sat down quickly and menus handed out swiftly then a long old wait for orders to be taken even for the drinks!Food was very slow, we weren’t asked how the meal was, they didn’t check on the table for more drinks, request to substitute tartar sauce for mayo was lost and food wasn’t actually anything special.Specials are somewhat outrageous in price, with a simple steak costing upwards of £35–not really in line with the rest of the pricing on the main menu.I’d consider returning for drinks but I think I might try elsewhere for an evening meal.

The food is excellent. Don’t be fooled by the menus you might see online that look like fairly traditional pub fare; the specials are amazing and consist mostly of locally caught seafood that is cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend.

Had an amazing meal here, we found this place by accident, and of a 10minute walk from Freshwater Bay campsite. Rigidly helpful staff, nice range of local beers and ciders. I would recommend booking a table in advance. We went mad and ordered the seafood platter for two, it was enormous, we could probably have shared a single one! Whole lobster, whole (bigcrab, scallops, mussels, prawns in garlic, prawns in breadcrumbs, salad, fresh bread! Absolutely stunning, and very very tasty!

Always good to visit the Anchor. An interesting variety of dishes. And a good selection at the bar. I went for a light snack lunch - had lovely fat whitebait with salad. I was lucky at this quiet time of year. Otherwise, its best to phone for a booking, just in case.Theres outside seating and a small car park at the side. Worth a detour.

A great welcoming village pub/restaurant/accommodation. I was lucky to have spent a weekend near the sea and The Anchor didnt disappoint with really good food friendly staff and location is ideal for beach walks. Wood burners give the warm cosy feel you want in the colder nights. Plan on returning and might take kids with me next time. 🤔

What a lovely little pub! Beer and cider was on point and the food was well above average. Dogs welcome with loads of treats to keep them happy. Plus, we were the last table in for lunch so got a few extras. ( book your table for 3 30pm if this appeals to you!The staff are so friendly and made use feel at home. I would recommend anyone to come here. A big thank you to all the staff!!!!!

If seafood Is your favourite then this place is a must. They also have other foods but the seafood is caught fresh and served up that day and is outstanding in my opinion. Served with a warm welcome.

Very friendly, bit over the top on their darlings, sweet, love greetings which unless you are used to being called that its very irritating. The food I saw looked ok but the chips were over done but Ive never eaten there. Seems popular though.

Food absolutely excellent, and enjoyed the visit & we will return. But, know its difficult times and 10pm closing puts a lot of pressure on the staff, but serving staff could have been a bit more positive throughout for example not served the main dishes we had waited for with the comments that you might have to take them away at only 9:25. Come on girls we are all taking a risk in coming out and supporting and enjoying the hospitality industry, we are all in this together.

Stopped in here as it was close to our campsite and was not sure where to eat. Between us we had 4 different machines off the menu and we were all very impressed. Delicious meals and very generous portion sizes. Well definitely visit again.

Had a fantastic meal here last weekend. We live only a few miles away but hadnt visited for a few years but the food, staff and ambience was still as good as it always was. All of us said how much we enjoyed both the starters and the main courses and we just didnt have room for pudding. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the welcome back we received was wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Would highly recommend.
