High St, Ripley, Woking GU23 6AE, Tonga
Homely pub with 16th-century roots offering real ales, plus a dining area for creative British fare.
Lovely meal, excellent staff, will return
Wonderful food, friendly, professional service and relaxing ambience
Very good food and atmosphere. Slightly lacking wine list.
Very good food, cozy environment, kind staff
amazing food and perfect place to grab a snack on a dog walk
A fab spot. Lovely food, drink and service. Recommended.
Sure the food is probably fine - but don’t be fooled, this is definitely not a proper pub, more fairly unwelcoming snooty gastro restaurant. Also not dog friendly as hinted at online.
Very very expensive , and no worth the money smells like only old people mans lived in here , it was a big mistake from the beginning till the end , food had a very awful presentation, for the money we have paid , its not worthy . I was very hungry and I eat , if not , ever again , do not mention the hair that it was on my coca cola glass .probably that was the cherry from the top
Its definitely lost its shine. The food was OK. Service was not. It felt like the staff were all on their 2nd shift. Plates being taken away before being finished. Little interaction with us customers.Once was the place to go in Ripley.... was!
Lunch for four was delicious. Mackerel/ pea/ mint, and homemade humous & crackers as starters, artichoke hearts and plaice for mains, with hash browns and French beans. Would have liked more veggie choices. Wide selection of wines, gins and alcohol-frees. Charming front of house team.
Called in today as was in area. Lovely building but oh boy the staff were very unfriendly. So We only stayed for a drink and left.
Food and service was outstanding! Highly recommend you go and check this place out.
Lovely beer garden in the rear of the pub with heaters for the sofa area.
Excellent food and excellent attentive service too. It was our first time as a family and we will be going back again asap. Quality food but the staff add positivity to the whole experience too
Absolutely stunning food, the best meal out me and my partner have ever had. Perfect portions, beautifully presented, wonderful blend of textures and well priced. Great service from all of the staff, too.
A great pub serving some really interesting food that has been beautifully cooked with care and attention.
Heard good things about this place and went for a joint anniversary dinner. It had good parking and a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. We had starter such as the pork scratching with apple sauce (light and tasty), pork belly (niceand fish thermidor which was also good. I had the plaice served on a nice bed of mushrooms and with a side of hash brown, really nice dish and crispy hash like a chunky chip. We had the rump of lamb on a bed of broad beans, this was a good portion and cooked perfectly. My wife had a veal escalope (slightly saltyserved on a nice creamy mash.We finished the meal with their strawberry ice cream with small meringue balls (recommended), a slice of blue cheese, a bottle of the English sparking wine and Brouilly.I might have given this a 5 star but had to wait a short while to order our wine other than that I would return as it was a nice experience.
Lovely atmosphere and staff. A mix of modern and original features. The menu looks good.
Such a lovely experience! The food was unbelievable, just so so tasty!Gorgeous vino, and friendly staff make the whole visit just so worthwhile!Highly recommend the Veal & the sticky toffee pudding is to die for!A fantastic venue for a special occasion as pricey but 100% worth it!Thanks x
Another fantastic lunch, great service. Without doubt the best weve had all year. Thank you Dave, Mike and team at The Anchor. And thank you weather, you were glorious out there today.
Beautifully prepared dishes in a very relaxed setting. Given the quality of the food, it was excellent value too. I would highly recommend going!!
I was served by a brilliant waiter the other evening.(Jameswas super polite and made the whole experience alot more welcoming. Brilliant food!
Great potential in a charming old pub with low beamed ceilings but we experienced poor service, a few disappointing dishes and found the menu a slightly peculiar mix of cuisines. The trout in the starter was nice and very well cooked but overwhelmed by a strong Thai green curry sauce. For us, an already small menu had one too many dishes with a form of curry / katsu sauce. I had a seafood main dish which was much better. Service felt a little chaotic, a couple of drinks orders never turned up and they forgot to take our deposit off the bill.
Great food, great service, nice atmosphere. The pork belly starter was delicious and the pavlova dessert was lovely! Would definitely return :-)
Staff lovely. Atmosphere nice. Menu small, not much choice. All a bit fusion for me. Nothing Christmasy what so ever. But disappointed tbh
Excellent up-market food in a tastefully decorated ancient pub. Sensibly priced drinks and extensive wine list. All the food is excellent, but the desserts in particular are a triumph.
Visited yesterday for lunch with friends and can only say what amazing value for money we all enjoyed when choosing from the set lunch. The warm cosy atmosphere added to the occasion. The serving staff were particularly impressive with their helpfulness and knowledge of the wines on offer..
Wheelchair user. Wouldnt let us sit for a quick drink at 5pm even though the place was empty. Said they were fully booked. Incredibly mean.
Came thinking this was a local pub... left realizing it was a Michelin Restaurant. The food was great as well.
Accomplished food - absolutely loved it. Beef carpaccio - can go so badly wrong in unskilled hands - but this is wonderful. Guinea fowl with crispy skin and juicy meat. What’s not to like? Stunning food - setting a little Spartan but I don’t care about that. Would recommend if in the area, and also within a 30 mile drive
A really excellent meal. The stand out dishes were our starters - beef carpaccio which was excellent and an equally good trout in Thai green curry. So good in fact that I forgot to take photos and just ate them instead! Did remember to take pics of the main course though.
Extremely tasty dishes made with seasonal ingredients. Good service. Nice quaint building. If I had to complain about something, Id say it had more of a lunchy atmosphere than a dinner one when we were there for dinner
We celebrated a friends birthday here and had an amazing time. The food tastes amazing and the presentation was impeccable - no less than a fine dining restaurant. Staff was friendly and very patient with our messy kids. Very well recommended!
I didnt find it up to its prelock down standards. Though the scallops with pea was outstanding. The main of lamb was okay. The panacata was pretty , but didnt deliver the flavour.
A reluctant 3***. The food and service warrant 4**** but this place markets itself as a pub but it simply isnt. My starter of crab bisque and main of roast topside and trimmings were good value. The cauliflower rarebit was a lovely innovation; bread was outstanding and house wine reasonable. The only wrong note, with the food, was insipidly mild horseradish, tainted incongruously and unpleasantly with chives. However, the place was cold; literally and metaphorically. The feel and decor are that of a provincial restaurant not a pub. The only real ale available was freezing cold and well past its best. Of course, as it was Sunday lunch, I had to suffer annoying and loud young children making themselves heard from the next room. Why do parents give them such agency? Pubs are adult playgrounds not childrens.
My wife and I were visiting Ripley on a three day vacation which coincided with our wedding anniversary. Booked this as a treat and we were not disappointed. Food excellent from starter through to dessert. Good choice of drinks as well. Thank you.
This place is amazing the food is out of this world they did my lamb pink yummy .the wines they have a good selection . The staff are amazing also well worth the money .This is a must do on anyones list . Give it a go this will be experience that you cant miss . It isadvisable to book first they get very busy
Been here before, but and usual high standard of food and service. Will only give 4 stars as the atmosphere was muted due to social distancing and reduced capacity. Not a bad thing if you want a quiet meal, but certainly not the lively pub atmosphere of the last time I went.
Beautiful food, exceptional gastro pub. Highly recommended
A beautiful old pub, great food, great service and they have Timothy Taylor Landlord on tap!
Sunday lunch for five adults and two children (11+9was delicious. Lovely atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff. Generous portions. Not cheap but still good value. House sauvignon blanc was also very good. ( from new Zealandwould definitely go agsin
Brilliant Sunday lunch. We rarely go out for Sunday lunch as they are usually rubbish. The food at the Anchor was lovely. We had lunch at 12:30 and the Yorkshires were great, the roast potatoes fresh and beef medium rare. Great service from friendly staff. Highly recommended.
Tasty and inventive food with very fresh products. Portions are reasonable which means you can appreciate a three course menu without this feeling of overindulgence! What is more the setting is very cozy, full of character and manylittle rooms and corners make for an intimate romantic meal. Service is genuinely friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable and very attentive to your needs. All in all, highly recommended.
Delicious food , friendly staff and amazing decor ! Worth the visit !
Had an amazing 3 course lunch. My husband had the tasting menu of 5 courses which was a mini version of all the 5 things on the lunch menu. All the food was amazing especially my skate, which was really soft. I recall love the building. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The only issue is that they brought out my courses with my husbands course 2 and 4, meaning for his 1 and 3 I had to wait for my food! It would have made more sense to bring my course with his 1 and 3, so I could have been finishing my course while he has his 2 and 4. Also, regardless, the time I between courses was too long. Maybe this is on purpose but for lunch we expected the time i between mains and dessert to be smaller.
This is a fine dining pub. It serves excellent food that is a little more expensive than typical pub food but is cooked to the standard of a good restaurant. They dont have a kids menu but were able to make a simple mini burger when we asked which our kids loved.Excellent place, worth a visit.
Came to visit RHS Wisley and wanted a good place around to have late lunch. Found it via the Michelin Guide and I have to say we throughly enjoyed the lunch. Friendly service and really delicious food. The best mushroom soup I have had in a long time! Well done to the kitchen xx
We visited for the first time for the December 2017 Sunday evening fixed price dinner and were both completely delighted by the superb food and friendly efficient staff. The slow roast duck in particular was great. One of those dishes whose flavours had flavours. The menu has been posted here as a photo
Unexpectedly great. Some great starters and tasty mains. In fact so good, we were not going to have desserts but were easily convinced by the excellence of the first two courses. The Lamb Sweetbreads were definitely the highlight of the meal though. Service friendly, and i got the sense we were served by every generation which was nice!
Friendly Service, limited but good choice of real ales, good food. The name is The Anchor, the decor is bicycles, what does it matter as long as you enjoy the experience.
