The Anchor in Windham
Description
Privilege
I toured the country with a band for two years. The Anchor not only had some of the best food Ive found in the country, but also some of the nicest staff ever. Wholeheartedly recommend.
MoreThe donuts and sandwiches are fantastic, and the owner is such a sweet person. I haven’t been to any place nearly as cozy in the area. Highly recommended!
MoreThe food was delicious, beer selection was very good. Then when the bill came, I noticed the beers we had ordered, which were listed as $8 for an 8 oz glass, were charged as $11 each on the bill. I brought it up to the server, who seemed a bit more defensive than apologetic about what I had thought was an honest mistake on their end. She said something like “well I don’t have anything to do with pricing,” reprinted the ticket with the adjusted amount but didn’t apologize or anything. Not a huge deal, hence why I’m not lambasting the business, but just beware of marked up drinks and double check your bill!
MoreThe good:We ordered takeout over the phone and the food was ready promptly. I thoroughly enjoyed the Cheezey Breezey (picturedand the sweet potato fries!!The meh:We also ordered the chicken and waffles - which is never really as good when the fried chicken is chicken tenders instead of thighs/drumsticks. We also attempted to order online and it was almost exclusively the donuts and not their actual menu.Overall; I’d give it a 4.7!
MoreGreat menu with a lot of vegetarian options. Dined in for lunch and service was friendly and quick.
MoreGreat atmosphere the place always smells good when I walk in dying to try the wings and amongst other things. Friendly staff go enjoy a night out at the anchor Broadway Kingston New York.
MoreGreat food and huge beer choiceDefinitely recommend!
Lovely bar with quiet atmosphere and nice private booths. Food is heavy by design, but excellent. Nice selection of local (and beyondbeers.
MoreGood burger. Great fries. Fresh jalapeños! Average or above average prices. Good service. Great booths. Great selection of draught beer. Boo to $4 sodas! $6 Milk Stout pints ; )
MoreI used to go often pre-pandemic. Then I ordered delivery a lot mid-pandemic. And now I go back in person! The food is reliably delicious and that beer menu… 🤩🤩🤩
MoreAnother great burger at The Anchor. This menu is awesome, food is absolutely delicious 😋Dine in on the back patio, or carry out, scrumptious goodies.
MoreGreat Food, good customer service!
Great food if they will accept your order. Unfortunately, the last time I tried to order from here they told me they were too busy to take an order. Way to go! Ill never order there again. Anyone with any intelligence or customer service skills would have asked me to hold or even at very least asked me to call back.
MoreAppreciate how hard the owner and staff have worked during this pandemic to keep mostly regular hours and reliable delivery. Always a solid meal and quick delivery. I LOVE hole in the wall donuts next door, great old fashioned donuts and new flavors all the time!
MoreGreat spot for a casual dinner. Only outdoor patio seating is available. Order everything via phone. Service was super fast! I recommend the Bob Marley burger, Fish & Chips, and the pretzels for an appetizer. Check out this place on your next visit to this area!!
MoreHonestly, I was a little skeptical of the place at first. It sits in the middle of a construction area with little to no parking ( turns out the Probation office parking lot across the street is ok after 5 The place looks closed, but if you follow the dirt path along the left side of the building it will take you to a cute patio behind the building. ( No indoor dining yet Follow the instruction at you table to order ( scan the QR code and order from your phone and get ready for some awesome food and drinks served promptly! What can I say but go there!!!!!!
MoreI was disappointed in the hole in the wall donut. I was under the impression it is a made to order. It was not. The coffee was not very good and the window person was rude. I really like the Anchor. And I look forward to being able to sit at the bar and order wings and beer. Shwing squirt for the Anchor. Gone soft for the hole in the wall.
MoreIt was great to dine-in at The Anchor again - they offer seating in a comfy, clean patio with large and small tables where patrons scan a QR Code to order drinks and food online, servers are attentive and kind.
Morei ate here a few times before the pandemic and have gotten takeout countless times and each time it is top notch. honestly some of the tastiest burgers ive ever had. good interesting burger combos. lil pricey but you do get what you pay for.
MoreI really really wanted to love this place. Ordered the Dragon burger and French Onion Soup burger to go. I can’t talk about the inside of the restaurant because it’s closed due to Covid. The burgers were good, but not as good as I expected. The burgers were large to and filling, but not memorable. Also the sweet potato fries and tots were nothing special. Maybe it’s much better in the restaurant instead of to go. I hope it was just an off day. The pickle was yummy.
MoreMy favorite restaurant!! Where I originate from, we used to have a place we could get these amazing haddock fish fry’s (no cod for me!and since I moved to the area I’ve been on the hunt for the best place to get a haddock dinner. Well I’ve tried about every place, but none was as delicious as The Anchor! The fish was very clean and fresh, no weird fishiness a lot of other places in the area had, and simply delicious. For the better part of the last couple years I’ve been regularly ordering this and other amazing sandwiches from The Anchor and the quality is always wonderful!!! Also, the desserts and appetizers are to die for— I recommend the tots and the pierogi!! (My husband would agree but also suggest the pretzels and beer cheese!)
MoreWe love The Anchor! Throughout the pandemic theyve never wavered in their commitment to providing our community delicious food, a great rotating draft list, and the friendliest service in town. Ordering take-out from them has saved my sanity more than once in the last six months, I dont know what wed do without them!
MoreI have never been disappointed at The Anchor. For the past couple of months, Ive been ordering regularly for delivery. Service is fast, typically arriving well under the 40-45 minute delivery time. The order is always complete, which is not a given with all restaurant delivery. And just as it was when they had indoor dining, the food is fresh and fabulous. My favorites are Hot Mess Fries, Too Hot To Tot, Bruskie Ruskies, Dragon Burger, and Cheezey Breezey Burger, which features a slab of macncheese. The brew selection is excellent.Yesterday, to celebrate The Anchors 7th birthday, I ordered the Birthday Burger (Kilcoyne beef, melted brie cheese, sauteed onions, bacon, and homemade hot truffle honey drizzled on a brioche bun). From the first bite to the last, which took a while because the burger is enormous (in fact, all offerings are a generous portion, so good value for the money), I was delighted by the mix of flavors. (Can I get a growler of that truffle honey?!)Browse the menu and place an order for pickup or delivery.
MoreAbsolutely fantastic! We get it at least once a week. The deliver to us in an extremely timely manner. We are always trying new things in the menu and they never disappoint. Not to mention $15 quart containers of sangria. highly recommended.
MoreHands down my favorite restaurant of all time. Their wings are to DIE for. Great burgers and fries, extensive beer selection. Their brunch is a must as well. I take all my family & friends here when they come into town. Can not recommend this place enough
MoreWow! Simply one of the best burgers I’ve ever ordered!!! The food is top-notch and Service was great.
MoreAmazing ambiance, and the burgers were original and delicious. Nice selection of local beers and stouts that you cant get anywhere else, too! The wait staff was also unique and friendly in their own right.
MoreStopped in Kingston on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy with families very kid friendly. I did like the dark ambiance and paintings on the walls with decor choice it gave the place a nice pub/local band spot vibe. No live music while we were there although there was a stage. Food is okay but I didnt have a burger which from the tables around us looked like their niche. I had the honey chicken sandwich wrap which lacked flavor and so did their Mac and cheese. Again not terrible but nothing to rave about. The grilled cheese sandwich was much better had loads of flavor and fries were decent . I did like that they had CBD cocktails something Im not used to seeing and they had a nice beer list. Felt like a nice local spot to grab burgers and brews.
MoreVegan beware. The ketchup has honey in it. Their vegan burger falls apart - makes me sad. Falafel wrap is good. Atmosphere is good. The red pepper that came on the sandwich was very cold and made my burger cold. Service was poor, server seemed to hate her job. Everyone who came after us was served 10 minutes before us. Another 15 to get our check when finished. It wasnt really that busy so its hard for me to be sympathetic.
MoreSo the food was great but our waitress was in training and not yet ready to run her own tables. They forgot to put our order in and then mixed up plates and cross contaminated the food for our daughter who has a serious food allergy. We werent upset at all but unfortunately the kids were at their wits ends and we had to take the food to go. The manager was very apologetic, more so than necessary, gave us free cake and gave us half off. We ate it at home and it was delicious!
MoreA good place to go for a burger. Its a pub and you shouldnt expect more. Most of the staff is friendly and Ive never had a complaint here. 4 stars because its a bar and Ive only gone during lunch Soni have no info on their drinks. Also, dessert menu is a little sparse given the array of food they have in the menu. If interested, they do advertise that they have CBD drinks available.
MoreJust had the best side salad ever. So fresh and flavorful. Cant wait to taste the next course! Ok, just had the amazing hand cut fries and the delicious Sanchez burger. The wifes fish and chips were equally wonderful. One more spiritual affair and the trifling brownie Sunday and its a wrap! Enjoy!!!
MoreThe Anchor pairs an incredible array of creative bar food with a great selection of beer and cocktails. The burgers are perfectly juicy, without turning the buns soggy. Great service, fair prices, and humungous portions make this a restaurant we will definitely return to next time we are in Kingston.
MoreThe burgers are amazing, the fries are also amazing! I liked that there are three size options for the beers on tap and the prices were reasonable. The music over the speakers was great and the people were friendly. My only critique is of the window seating because it was super uncomfortable but overall I really enjoyed The Anchor!
MoreChill bar with a solid selection of drafts. Friendly bartender, good music, and an extensive menu for any bar-food craving.
MoreTheres only two words to describe this place. Ahh mazing!!! Its a wonderful pub with an outstanding selection of burgers and sandwiches. FRESH and real ingredients. The corned beef sandwich was not deli sliced meat but large chunks of corned beef. The burgers were out of this world cooked to perfection. The homemade tater tots were seasoned with a perfect combination of flavors and served with a spicy barbecue sauce that even people who dislike spicy foods liked! The beer selection was great and our server offered great recommendations. Stop here. Eat here. Visit here. Enjoy a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
MoreGreat space. The Last Regerts is both wonderful and lives up to the name. Pulled pork. French fries. Eggs. And hollandaise on the side. It was tragically wonderful and substantial. Definitely if you want to get full do.They have a dope outdoor space.
MoreStopped in for a beer and a bite. We started with chicken wings and were going to order more after we had time to peruse the menu. The chicken wings were incredibly small. Literally smaller than my pinky. Theyre the same length as the ramekins the sauce is served in. Ive seen bigger chicken nuggets. They were also very overcooked. Now, this in and of itself isnt a dealbreaker. But when we expressed our dissatisfaction with what we ordered to the waitress, she became snippy and her attitude was essentially this is what you get, deal with it. She offered no solutions, she made no attempt to offer a different choice, she just acted like she expected us to shut up and eat them. Completely rude. When we politely informed her that we were sorry, but we were going to leave in that case, she began getting loud with us and then stormed off while rudely yelling back at us.Essentially yelled at by the server for having the audacity to not be satisfied by what we were served.
MoreThe good: The food was good, fresh, and all prepared properly. The fries were perfect. Crispy outside, soft inside. The burgers were all cooked exactly as we had ordered them. The food was done quickly, but at the time we were there only a few tables were being used. The beer list is good and has lots of good options. They also offer little 4 oz glasses which are great for sampling, or if youre going to be driving. The service was okay. We were neither impressed nor upset by them. The bad: They are trying so hard to be trendy inside and just failing miserably. The walls are covered in "art" that is at best poor and at worst creepy as heck. The lighting is dim and very yellow to the point that its difficult to make out colors. I imagine they were trying to make it feel warm but overdid it. The music was the worst. It was all very niche. Imagine a combination of classic rock, jazz, crying babies, and a nearly broken car. Im sure there is one person somewhere who thinks it is great. For most everyone else its just awful. Im not doing them to play Bruno Mars, just stop trying so hard to be hip. They arent a hip spot. More like a really awkward and moderately creepy Uncle who is trying to be cool and is having difficulty coping with the fact that they peaked in high school and cant go back.So in short: Good food, decent service, terrible ambiance.
MoreStaff was great and welcoming and the food was incredible. We had the hot mess fries with sweet potato. It was delicious the pork was awesome. The French onions soup burger was also perfect! The Patty alone had a really great flavor. One of the best burgers Ive had.Dessert was awesome! No complaints. The live music was also a real treat.
MoreWe were in town for the night and stopped in for late night grub. Needed a place that had vegetarian fare! Food was pretty good, menu was varied, and our server was friendly. Thursday night is open mic so we could hear them from the dining area. It was a nice little spot! The coffee soda is insanely good.(Wife said the regular french fries were a little thin to be cooked as well done as they were. I loved the sweet potato fries!)
MoreMy first time here and gotta say Ill be back again. For starters its difficult to make up your mind on what to eat or drink. The beer selection was awesome. The burger was cooked perfectly and I wont ever forget about the tots and that BBQ sauce. The service was good as well, our server was friendly and helpful. Also Im from CT and will make the 2 hr+ trip to come back here. Best burger place I have been to yet.
MoreNice place, good burgers with quality beef. The fries were hand cut and cooked perfectly, just like the burger.A large selection of micro brews offering 4 , 8 , 16 ounce glasses. Big stage and dance area. Nice ambience and nice staff.A really great place to enjoy a night out.
MoreA fantastic bar and restaurant combo! They have a very impressive selection of beers, local and classic, to choose from. The burgers are absolutely amazing, large, and reasonably priced. The staff was very nice and a few even chatted with us about local history and the Anchor itself when they had a chance.A true Kingston restaurant that my family keeps going back to whenever we need some comfort food.
MoreGreat place. Came with my GF for lunch on a Saturday and were promptly seated. I ordered a Root Beer Pulled Pork Sandwich, and my GF ordered the Cowgirl burger. We both tried each others meal (cute... i knowand despite the fact that I loved my pulled pork sandwich, I think Id get the burger next time. It was fantastic. They use great beef (local, grass-fed I believe), and you can tell. The fries were plentiful, thin-cut, and dipped in copious amounts of ketchup. We also ordered a side of 4 Cheese Mac and Cheese, which was excellent and topped with a sprinkling of green onion. Delicious. Will go again next time we are in the area.Sorry about no photos :( we werent thinking about it.
MoreThis place has a nice, quiet crowd. The staff and servers were very friendly. The food service was quick. Lots of great burgers options with various toppings. Burger was a bit well done, but otherwise very delicious. The tater tots were a surprise blend of cheese and spice. They are a must and look like hush puppies. Backwoods Bastard Scottish Ale by Founders on draft was smooth and had a lot of flavor as to be expected by a barrel aged ale. Sauces all great as well. Definitely will visit again!
MoreA very good different selection of beers, burgers and comfort food a must stop in.
MoreGreat place for burgers if youre taking a leisurely lunch or for dinner. Theres a stage in the back so I think they have love music/performances regularly. The nice waitress talked about karaoke night. Came here with a group and everyone was happy with their delicious burgers of choice. I had the cowgirl.
MoreThey have the best burgers and always a great list of beers on tap. The hot mess fries are a favorite too! All the staff is very friendly and will give a taste of a beer before pouring.
MoreVery interesting place. Was pretty quiet when we went for lunch on a Sunday, but it had unique eats. Some of the best sweet potato fries Ive ever had. Thee bun was a little dry, but better than store-bought. Id eat here again if I was in the area.
