The American Bar in Palmer

Ive been to The American Bar at The Savoy many times and it remains my favorite in the world. With that, The American Bar at The Stafford just entered my top-two list in London for their creativity, service, and charming atmosphere. I look forward to returning and recommend you check it out for yourself. :)

On our visit to London , thought this American bar would be a nice place to have a couple of cocktails , after laying some followers for the Queen, at the floral tributes in the park.After following Google maps to this American bar, we must have arrived at the entrance to the Hotel linked to the American bar, I asked a staff member there if we were in the right place for the American bar, he said its through there and pointed the way,when we actual got to the bar,OMG !! we were greeted by a staff member there, that I can only describe he looked at us like we had just crawled out from the bottom of his shoe, I said is this the American bar ?? he said yes and we are fully booked, I said I didnt want a table,we only want a couple of cocktails at the bar, he said again, "we were fully booked, and the exist is there... I could see loads of empty tables and seats etc and empty tables and seats outside.I can only think that because we were dressed in T shirts etc,and not suits, he didnt want us in the place, ,he didnt mention any dress restrictions. and I didnt see any dress codes.

This review is based on experience with Female manager at the American bar was very arrogant and rude.

Lovely atmosphere and a very pleasant vibe. Reasonably priced cocktails too, so what’s not to love!

Its a cozy bar to enjoy wine with your friends. I would prefer having sunshine outside.

Nice location and setting but the service is slow and not up to scratch. Several mistakes were made on drinks orders.

We had food and drinks here for two people. The cocktails are great and presented very nicely, and there is a good wine list. We shared 3 dishes with two people and that was plenty for us, keeping in mind it is a bar menu. The food was lovely. We sat outside the whole evening, so cannot comment on the atmosphere outside. Would have give a higher ranking if there were not 2 glasses of wine on the bill that we did not consume. So we were almost overpaying £30 if we hadn’t paid attention. Please always check your bill when going here, as I have seen other reviews with similar experience. There was no excuse, and the staff member almost made us feel like we were wrong. Not a good attitude. Cannot say I would recommend.

The two stars are for the food and drinks both tasted pretty good (although the burger was overcookedThe price is high, but thats typically forgiven when service, food, and atmosphere are top notch. However, thats not the case here. The service here is the real shame, slow and forgetful. Afterwards we went to a local pub and gott better drinks at a 1/3 the cost. Dont waste you time (itll take awhileor money. They would be well served by actual visiting American Bars and seeing how the best dont let you sit waiting for anything. Travelers in London, you have been warned!

The cocktails were amazing and there was variety. Service was very good!

The drinks were fine, but nothing special, took 45 mins for a drink to come. Chased a few times but to my amusement was told “the bartenders are crying too” not worth the wait and my overpriced Amalfi spritz (21£and tasted like a lemonade.

I went for the first time with a friend and promised an old-school bar experience; unfortunately not much of that was offered. New money looking for overpriced drinks in small quantities is what we found. The atmosphere was that of a badly renovated American sports club and the drinks were neither particularly inventive nor old-fashioned. Big ice cubes divert the attention from the short drink. The snacks were good (+1 star). If you’re looking for classic hotel bar, you’ll be better off at the American Bar in Paris.

CHECK YOUR INVOICE - All told, the restaurant stole 56 quid from me by adding wine that wasn ordered and double charging for items. To add to that pain,the food was not stellar as would be expected for the prices charged. The cheeseburger (ordered med. rarearrived well done. The roll was dry like the desert and just fell apart like a dirt clod crumbles to dust when squeezed. Ended up breaking the burger apart and just eating the dried out meat with the tomato. As the menu shows, the burger comes with fries. They were ok, but as can be seen on the invoice I was charged twice for them. A bottle of wine (Gavi di Gavi Tenutowas also added to the invoice that was never ordered. The light was too dim to review the invoice and being such an upscale place, one wouldnt think they would pad the bill. Not a great experience. Just check your invoice.

Served by two waiters, one good, one bad! The cocktail tastes just ok, but somewhat overpriced!The worst thing happened when I decided to check out, when I found there is one thing on our bill yet we didn’t order at all! It worth more than 40 pounds. Can’t believe they would make such a huge mistake, really unprofessional!

Fantastic service, great bar, fabulous cocktails! A must if you love a good mixologist!

I was very disappointed with the American Bar, huge reputation.The quality of the food and drink was poor for such an establishment.The service jolly but erratic, to the point where one of the waiters set one of the canopy’s on fire by the outside heater.Things not available on the menu, really unprofessional.For me, this place looks fantastic externally but lacks quality.

A very excellant bar with stupendious drinks and excellant service. A bit of a hidden gem, and also (though I didnt sit there on this occasiona decet outside area, too.

A very average bar in looks and experience with staff seemingly more interested in their own interactions than their customers.Firstly the bill - 3 g&t and 6 small bottles of Peroni = £124. Now I dont mind paying that, and have many times in the past, but thats a price point where I expect a special atmosphere, seriously good service and top notch surroundings. This has none of those.The doormen at the hotel side were lovely, so that was a good start. Beyond that, the bar is very ordinary. We were near an electric door that kept opening automatically and as there is no porch area nor any attempt to cover the opening through perhaps a curtain, every time it opens youre greeted by an icy blast of cold air until some time later it decides to close again.The staff were more interested in chatting among themselves about whatever issues were going on around them without any appreciation that customers shouldnt be aware of this - take those conversations out of the bar area please - again, I wouldnt ordinarily care but at this price point my expectations are different (much higher!).We wont be returning. Youd be better off round the corner at the Ritz, Mr Foggs or Claridges (or in fact most of the other local establishmentswhere youll find a significantly superior experience at roughly the same price point.

The class act of a bar for those in the know. This is for the St. James’s regular business executive; deals are struck over Negronis. In the summer make sure to sit in the courtyard (a former stable mews). This has been a long term Central London fixture and will never disappoint. Wearing a suit to go here is a good idea.

Enjoyed a cocktail here on Thursday before lunch at the Game Bird.The selection was absolutely superb and the service excellent! I enjoyed the seasonal Negroni and it was divine! Amazing ambiance and staff. I will definitely return. Thank you!

I used come here regularly as is around the corner from my office, but the service has really gone downhill. I made a reservation for 3 people, the staff would only give me 2 chairs and they wouldn’t give me a third seat. I asked 4 times for a third seat and they ignored me. When I got up to find a spare seat (as my 2 colleagues had arrived and were standingsomebody dressed in a suit claiming to be the manager shouted at me and said ‘those are reserved tables, don’t touch those chairs’. I said well my table was also reserved a week ago and I’ve asked your staff for a spare seat 4 times and he said ‘congratulations, but can’t you see I’m on a phone call and i’m not interested in speaking to you.’ I was really very taken aback. Needless to say we left and went somewhere that wanted our business.

We truly loved our cocktails and the fantastic service and atmosphere at the American Bar. Our server, the hostess and everyone we spoke to was amazing and we loved how friendly everyone was. The cocktails were fantastic and I was absolutely thrilled that they could make a gimlet for me as Ive tried to find that everywhere! The atmosphere outside as well was stunning and we loved the beautiful flowers and decor in their patio area. We will definitely return!

Wonderful evening spent celebrating a Birthday. We started with cocktails in the American bar, and to follow a first class meal at the Game Bird. The staff and services was excellent. Highly recommended. Our party will look back at our evening at the Stafford with find memories.

Very friendly service and in a nice setting (recommend the courtyard). Drinks are expensive - £10 for a beer, £11 for house wine and £20 for a cocktail. I tried one of the negronis, which was good, but I have had equally good and better negronis in the local area for cheaper. I guess you are paying for the name/setting. Worth a visit if you fancy a relaxing drink.

Have always loved this spot! Back in the day (pre-pandemic that iswas a great venue for summer drinks, team events etc. Its still an awesome place with impeccable service but current restrictions means its only outdoor service so watch the weather

Amazing ambience and vibes as smooth as lounge room jazz🎺. We were seen to by the excellent Luigi. We went 50/50 on the Caesar Salad 🥗 and the Chorizo pizza 🍕. Mulled wine and Lyle syrup sponge pudding also went down a treat 👌🏾All the good feels; all the fun vibes.

This is such a fabulous bar! They have great ambiance and delicious cocktails. I always enjoy coming here for a martini.It is a little more pricey, but that is expected at an upscale bar! Definitely worth going to.

Always a place to have a drink. You cannot fault this bar, the staff, the decor, the food and drink are all perfect. Each time we go they have a new cocktail in a new glass. This visit they had a new rum to taste.

My husband and I had cocktails and a casual dinner here on a Saturday night. Cocktails were great - both creative and inventive. Food, also delicious. We ordered oysters rockefeller, a burger and a grass fed steak. Pinot noir was excellent, as for a cider (which my husband ordered as he cannot drink beer - gluten freewould have liked a bit more choice. The one on the menu, although pink (very pretty- contained just a 3% alcohol content, and for the price and taste, it just missed the mark. Otherwise, it was a fantastic evening. Staff was lovely and polite - but not too stuffy (which I appreciate). The American Bar just got it right. Cannot wait to return.

I’ve spent a lovely moment. The place is cool, the cocktails are excellent and the staff is very pro ! Loved It !

We wanted to go there just for a cup of coffee at lunch time and we couldn’t sat outside. We order something small to eat just so that we can sit in the very idyllic beautifully made backyard in the middle of mayfare. As I said before, the backyard is very nicely prepared, only a bit disturbed by temporary construction work on the next house (end of July 2019). We enjoyed the good food even if the waiter was exordinary slow.But in general I can recommend this luxury bar/restaurant in mayfare.

My wife and I went here for a few drinks. They had a great pianist/singer in the centre, the cocktails are around £22 and bottle of peroni beer was about £6.5. They bought out a few nibbles for the table the waiting staff were very polite, all in all we have a nice evening

Unfortunately had a very bad experience which merits this review, as the staff didnt care to try to fix things or apologise.Hostess arranging tables was very good. One of us ordered a cocktail which was nice enough.I arrived 5 minutes later. After waiting, had to ask waiter for a drinks menu. Did not receive anything to eat the olives with except a single teaspoon between 2 people (this was never seen to). Had to chase waiter to order. Ordered a draft beer to join the cocktail my partner had, and had to chase it after 10+ minutes waiting, during which time my partner nearly finished her cocktail. Only one of us was given a drinks mat (hot day). Place wasnt busy at all so no excuse.Pint was off - undrinkable. End of barrel or recently changed and not flushed. Sometimes you just dont like the style, and sometimes (very rarely for meits undrinkable.We asked for the bill, ready to just pay up and leave, commenting the beer was bad and they should fix it for other people. I didnt ask for anything to be taken off the bill or anything like that. Waiter just argued with me saying its fine and "meant to be warm and a bit bitter". Like I havent been a beer fan in the UK for two decades. No attempt to make things right or offer a different beer.So overall - one fairly normal Pimms, olives with no sticks to eat them with, and a couple of sips of the worst draft beer I can remember tasting since 2008 for a total of just under £31.Had the waiter simply apologised instead of arguing I would not be writing this, as sometimes mistakes happen. Should take some lessons in customer service. Ill stick with the Chesterfield - they know how to look after people. 2 stars for the location and the lady seating guests who does a great job. The rest was bad.

Very chilled bar serving food also. Average price for a cocktsil is £20. My cocktail was served in a hlass looking globe... certainly one of the most interesting cocktails Ive had. Its off the back street of Green Park and in a nice and quiet location. Great little spot!

Was in London with some friends and they wanted to try some traditional British food and we decide to go here as it was the closest to us.I’m pleased to say the food was amazing and cooked to perfection! We decided to have grilled fish instead of the batter and it was fresh, full of flavour and tasty!

The excellent hidden spot in London. Once you walk into the alley way, you will agree, especially during the Christmas period 🎄 with an outside area with heaters and great complimentary snacks ;unfortunately don’t have the outside picture which doesn’t do the justice anyway.

A very enjoyable and unique setting for meeting friends for cocktails. If you can, get the seats in the bay window.
