4.0 must be one of the lowest in the area. I remember it being almost 5 stars. Long waits, inexperienced staff and food poorly cooked. I would think the rating is around 3 star and the current 4 star is only because of the high standards of many many years ago. I wonder what the real purpose of this establishment is?

Took my mum here for a Sunday roast. We ordered a bottle of wine, they brought a 1/2 carafe instead, honest mistake but the bar staff seemed personally offended when we informed them they got the order wrong, she poured the wine back into the bottle right in front of us, spilling loads of it all over herself and the floor and rolled her eyes when we said we can just handle cleaning up and pouring it ourselves. Artichoke appetiser was freezing cold in some parts and piping hot in others. When we ordered the Yorkshire pudding off the sides menu we were told they weren’t sure if they could accommodate that, not because they’ve run out, she just wasn’t sure if we could order it…? Staff was socialising amongst themselves while avoiding eye contact with guests. At one point we were certain our waitress had ended her shift and moved on with her life as we hadn’t seen her for over 30 minutes. We asked for takeaway boxes for leftovers and were told they don’t have any, instead offered us the entire roll of their industrial-sized kitchen foil. Such a shame as I used to love this place, been here many times for group parties, but I simply don’t have the patience to deal with the abysmal service. Staff seemed annoyed at our very existence.

A very disappointing Sunday Roast visit on every level. Overpriced. Low quality. Poor service. £3 for one slice of bread sums it up. The mark up on the wine is also a massive p*ss take. This used to be an Islington institution and now it’s gone to the dogs. Won’t be back in a hurry.

Pub is in a cute setting, food was okay. A touch on the expensive side for quality of the meal. Also worth noting on a Sunday they can serve roasts gluten free but only without gravy. It’s a shame as it’s not difficult to substitute flour for an alternative.

Unfortunately food was remarkably bad. We’ve been many times to the Albion in the past and have always enjoyed it but this time the food was of extremely poor quality. It arrived literally within 5 minutes of us ordering it, meaning it had already been sitting in the kitchen for a while and was lukewarm at the very best. Burger was dry and buns cold; we asked for it to be toasted only to have it returned to us exactly the same. Steak was overcooked and a very small portion. Chips in the fish and chips were very very few. Overall very disappointing experience, won’t be going back any time soon. Whatever had changed needs to be fixed. Not even deserving the one star.

The food was extremely disappointing this time. Not just average, but way below. Something has definitely changed over the past 6 months. Keep this place strictly for drinks as it does have a great garden

Dont want to be negative as we will definitely go again at a less busy time than sunday, but just pretty chaotic as too over booked and understaffed. We eventually got our table but the food was OK not epic, and we never got our vegetable orders and the "crackling" never appeared and when we asked we got a shrug and no there isnt any, despite being written in the menu. Probably a victim of its own success but needs to be more attentive to balance of packing it full and having enough staff

One of the worst Sunday roast experiences Ive had in London. Slow and clumsy service, the roast had been sitting there for hours, no pork scratchings with the pork belly. Would avoid this place, at least for a Sunday roast

Generally like this pub. Had a very disappointing experience Sunday. When we arrived, we were told that there was a 50min delay on food, which was nice to be told. Ordered drinks etc was fine. 50min turned into 2 hours, large groups in the dining area arrived after us, eaten and were leaving as we were still waiting (we were a party of 2). We were some how forgotten about. When our roasts came the meat was nice, though the only veg was half a carrot each, no other colour on the plate. Also the pork was missing the crackling, I had to ask for and was really nice when arrived. I have had lovely roast here in the past so was just a little frustrating to wait 2 hours and food not being too great.I think another frustrating thing was there seamed to be no one around to speak to us, or apologise. The waitress was nice, though she had no idea how long we had been waiting as she took over from someone else. We had to speak up to get any one to engage, no idea who the Manager was. I hope this is a one off as the pub was so busy and standards are not slipping, only reason I havent given one star is because of a good experience here before and the meat was nice.

We were sat down and left .Had to remind waitress and still took 20 mins for drinks. No one came to take our order until i got up and asked . For arrived Luke warm .Plates left in front of us for 10 mins when we asked the waitress to clear plates she brought the bill and then proceeded to scrap off food of plates in front of us . Completely unprofessional service doubt if I would ever go again £130 poorly spent

The wait for your meal is beyond the purported 30-40 min. and not worth the wait for the Sunday Roasts which are unimpressive, notably the lamb and pulled pork. The accompanying potatoes and the cauliflower-cheese side are to be avoided. At this price and in todays competitive restaurant market three stars is most generous.

I’ve previously had a great roast at The Albion but my most recent experience was really disappointing. The food was not as good as usual and serving sizes seem to have decreased significantly. Expect to wait at least an hour for your food too.

I have been in here before for a date and sat in the back garden which was a pretty ideal place for a first date. However, I was passing by last week on my way home from work and fancied a cold beer , it smelt weird inside at the bar so I quickly got my pint and headed out to the back where Id sat before , there were lots of tables free but I was kindly asked if I could sit inside , I reluctantly obliged and found a table inside only to be asked to move again , I got quite annoyed from here and asked the staff member where he recommend I sit as the front outside seating area is full , he suggested by the bar which was totally empty due to the smell.Safe to say I nailed the beer and left. Wont be going back there in a hurry.Christopher.

I paid 17.5 for a basic burger and chips plus service charge. For that price I expected a handcrafted brioche bun, fresh raw slaw, French fries, house pickles and sauces. The burger patty is like a rubbery dry shrunken meatball a quarter the size of the bun. The manager on duty remarks in a defensive "all the burger patties are weighed equally the same." Id rather prefer one the same size as the bun, medium to well done, and rested and juicy please. Ive had better from a festival burger van. No problem re. pricing (I know the area. The kitchen team needs either a shake up or a proper rest. The food looks tired. The manager on duty is defensive and unaccommodating. Standards have slipped at this once community eatery, now only visited by the visiting - for its one saving grace - the garden terrace.

Beautiful pub with lovely outdoor space that makes you feel like you’re somewhere in the country side rather than London. Chips and sourdough bread were good too! We’d have appreciated a couple of extra veggie options like halloumi and chips (the batter on the fish looked delicious so we were jealous !!and perhaps a veggie burger.

Food was 5⭐️ but overall 4Service and setup were grand. Could be improved but I’ll be back for the grub alone- Whitebait 🎣- unreal portion size for the price. Such a good beer snack- scotch egg 🥚 - best I’ve had. Lovely spice- Ham hock terrine 🫔- seems an odd order but beautiful- Chips 🍟 - giddy up- Burrata 🪤- unreal. The tomatoes with it 👌🏼

Stellar! We sat outside on a summer evening and it was just beautiful. Fantastic place to get dinner and drinks with friends.Seabream - 4.75 starsDelicious! Fish was perfectly cooked with a crisp skin and moist on the inside. The toppings like shrimp and olives were really tasty. Only thing that could be improved was the accompanying stalky vegetable that was a little unwieldy to eat.Sticky toffee pudding - 5 starsThe table favourite! Soft moist cake with the perfect sauce.Apple rhubarb crumble - 3.75 starsCouldnt taste the rhubarb but this was still good!Double decker - 3 stars for the double D, 4 stars for the ice creamNot my type of dessert I have to admit but some of the others enjoyed it. Pistachio ice cream was good though!White chocolate cheesecake - 3.5 starsNot my type of dessert either but still good! The others enjoyed this too.Service - 5 starsThink they had a shift change. Service was overall good although with occasional lapses but they were really busy.Bathrooms - 1 starI dont usually rate bathrooms but this needed improvement - no toilet paper in the ladies and one toilet was clogged. Thankfully I only need to go once!

Awesome place for a good old pub toast. Chicken beef or ham, its the way to go! Pulled pork roast is particularly good, make sure you order the cauliflower cheese bake as the side. Goes down with a nice cold British larger for £5 - cant go wrong! Be sure to book a table outside if the weather is good, its gorgeous. No umbrellas on the tables so bring sunscreen, strip off or cover up, she gets hot! Enjoy!

We had a reservation for 8pm and it was after 10pm when we got our mains. Some kitchen mix up. They absolutely should have offered something in the way of compensation like a drink or something.Food was fine but not mind blowing for the price. but too many little things were wrong likenot giving steak knives with steak, one of our party got their main 10 minutes later than the rest. Not having the correct sauces with meals.Bringing the aide orders out 15 minutes before the mains and then having to take them back into the ktichen to keep them warm.Basic mistakes everywhere, laughable stuff. We then didnt get to order dessert cos the kitchen was closed. Imagine an 8pm booking not having time to get dessert. There were only 6 of us, not like a massive group.I wouldnt be back nor would i recommend it. Not quite 1 star but not far off.

Went for dinner on a busy Friday night for my husbands birthday. Sat in the garden which was a beautiful setting. Starters were lovely. Mains took an hour to arrive, saw lots of group tables being served felt like we were an afterthought. I had steak, half of it was chewy fat I couldnt eat. Husband had burger which was overcooked, cheese was just slapped on at the end. Harissa greens were awful, complete waste of money, could hardly touch them. Chips had a strange lingering used oil taste. Waitress asked how meals were, we politely stated it wasnt great and showed half the steak was inedible etc. She apologised but offered nothing. Disappointing as it was my husbands birthday. We left without dessert.

Great little pub for a drink. Has a countryside feel to it. Staff are extremely friendly and really do usually try to make you feel welcomed. However on this occasion the dry, tasteless food I ate ruined this experience a little.Youd have thought that returning a plate of food two thirds full would have prompted some concern from the waiting stall, but this just didnt happen. No interest at all, until I/we were leaving for the evening. By which time that horse had boltedAt £17 for a burger Id have thought (hopedthat it would be succulent and appetising. Instead of dry and tasteless. Banal.I will just stick to drinks in future should I return. I certainly wont be recommending the uninspiring food any time soon though

One of the most picturesque pubs in Islington! They have a very enjoyable outdoor side and its great to go there on a sunny day. Good beer overall. Been there for a Sunday roast once and they also had good food. The only thing is that the staff could be a bit more friendly for a perfect experience :-)

The pub is nice and the garden is lovely, however I dont understand why they are trying to keep it posh with the specific seating reservations etc. Is just a pub, thats the atmosphere and thats absolutely fine! I really didnt enjoy that the management was clearly trying to be extra. Also they tell you that the garden is fully booked although in the website doesnt give you the choice to book in the garden.

Amazing service - the waiters and bar staff, head of house, were superb - all accommodating and friendly and worked smartly together. The place is cosy, well looked after, cottage vibes in a pub atmosphere, with a gorgeous beer garden out back. Candles on the tables. Excellent food, we recommend the scotch egg for a starter, lamb and truffle for the main, and sticky toffee date pudding to finish. We cant wait to go back.

Wouldnt go for anything more than a beer in the beer garden. Huge swarm of big black flies at the window and flying around the place, a sign that meat is rotting somewhere. Very dusty too. Needs a deep clean. Not a good experience.

Avoid eating here. Went for a Sunday roast and it was such a disappointment. Overall poor food quality, I wouldn’t be surprised if the potatoes were from the frozen section. They had no cider, lemonade and lacked many beer options. Also the prices listed on the website are not accurate - everything is more expensive on the menu they give you there.

Beautiful pub/restaurant, 2 fireplaces in the front, massive and very pretty back garden. I had the beef Sunday roast and it was good, but they only served 2 slices of beef with it and they were very fine and not really sufficient. I’m rarely one to complain about portions but it was a bit surprising, same for the leg of lamb. Will return for a drink or another meal but not the roast.

Very impressed with this pub. Great inside space. Everything a traditional pub should be - candle light, roaring fire and comfy seats. Lots of space both inside and out. Mellow soul music playing added to the relaxed chatty vibe. Landlady wasnt the most outgoing but this didnt detract from the experience. Would love to come back and try the food. Even have their own Albion beer which I am informed is brewed by The Lanes Brewery.

The large outside rear garden is currently covered with large canvas roof with plenty of interspersed heaters, making for a very comfortable and warm eating/drinking experience. The food is good but not necessarily interesting enough to warrant repeated visits, but its definitely a great space for a couple of drinks if nothing else.

Went here with my partner Nov 2020. The staff were very friendly and very professional. As there is a pandemic, they all had masks on and were taking all necessary steps to keep the guests and themselves safe. We sat near the fireplace which was lovely and so warm. They tended to the fireplace every 10/15 mins. This kept it pipping hot. I got the parsnip and walnut soup to start and my partner got the bruschetta. For mains he got the burger and I got the pork belly. The food was delicious. So tasty and cooked very well. The display was 10/10. I recommend this place to you reading this. Also, if you are a fan of whiskey, they have a decent selection (being in England and whatnot).

Great roasts and amazing little beer garden out the back. Maybe a little slow on the drinks side, but guess they have to spend longer cleaning tables with Corona virus kicking about. We had about 8 different dishes between us.... Would say though that the starters a bit overpriced.

My local, so tend force my friends to go with but every time I’m here I’m super disappointed. The chicken roast doesn’t even have a gravy and pudding, two flowers of broccoli and 3 halves of potatoes, breast with no crispy skin - all size for a baby for the price of 18 quid. The gnocchi is good - but it’s not rocket science to make a good gnocchi. My friend tested the cheapest possible option: gnocchi with ONE glass of a wine - ended up paying 25 quid which is a bit of a joke for a plate of potatoes. Apple crumble good but also not mind blowing (didn’t get the sour/sweet effect). Overall food is not amazing and heavily overpriced, garden is very average with no working heaters (Spurstow in hackney as a better comparison), inside very average (hunter s as better comparison), doesnt take amex but prices like for SKen, staff told me today I can sit outside but if it starts to rain, I’ll have to stay there - the guy didn’t even check that there was no chance of rain today, which I did on my phone and took me 1 sec. just walk a bit further to Hunter S or Bergen House and save yourself such disappointment.

A perfect setup but what a disapointment.....The place does not have any parking but you can easily pick on on the adjacent roads especially during weekend. The Pub itself and the garden is great to outstanding. The food however was a real mistake but we ordered a sharing platter early in the day and it was really the fries were also good. We decided to stay to dinner. The burger was one of the worst burger ever. The bun was dead,...it was totally dry way to dry. Nothing justify a such bad burger. I thought it was only mine but when I ask the question around the answer was straight. The steak was also too dry and overcooked. For £13.50 each it is simply a disgrace. You should know this before ordering.

Lovely place, especially the outdoor seating area. Be sure to make a reservation if coming on a Sunday! Had the Roast Cod which was cooked tremendously well, having that whiff of smokey roasted flavour in every bite. However, i find that it could do with a little less oil. Other than that, 5 stars from me

Very cosy environment, friendly service in the british pub. Came here because they are dog friendly. The food was generally good and prices are reasonable. I didn’t enjoy my burger bun - it was very thick and dense; good chunky fries though. I tried some pie of the day which was delicious, which came with tasty veges too.Others ordered the sausages and mash, and roast cod. Everyone finished their meals so that’s a good sign. Stayed for dessert and coffee, and the puppy also got a small treat from the waitress (Perlawhich was super nice.

I have a love hate relationship with The Albion, and Im not the only one...It arrogantly trades on the fact it has a good reputation for Sunday lunch, a wonderful garden and in the summer months its the only place in Islington you can enjoy a drink in the setting sun.Service on balance is at best appalling - rude and arrogant. So, why 4 stars... despite the apprehension and terrible experiences over 3 years, we chose to have our wedding lunch here and we had a wonderful day.You need to do everything yourself, still the service on the run-up to the day was terrible, but they didnt let us down and I would recommend.
