Southeast Asian fare in an intimate beamed dining room hung with oriental art and artifacts.
Great menu and variety. They were out of the quail unfortunately, but the duck choices filled that void superbly. The vegetarian dishes were fantastic as well. Parking for take away can be problematic, but worth the hassle for sure.
Great food and service. The Pho was very good!
Let’s start by saying this restaurant does not serve alcohol. You can bring your own if you really need to. On the whole the food was average the servings are small ( we left still feeling hungry it small and noisy but the staff are attentive and friendly ,
Service is below standard with requests need to be repeated, salads are minimalistic for the price, chop sticks are too slippery, quite smelly.
July 2022: The best is the deep fried soft shell crab dressed with tamarind sauce. The deep fried quail served with garlic sauce is a bit dry although it is tasty.Rice flour pancake made with coconut cream and filled with king prawns, minced pork, bean sprouts and spring onion is average to me.Roast duck on a bed of egg noodles tastes good but the duck is a bit chewy.Braised beef is cooked well in coconut cream with the right balance of sweet, heat, peanut and coconut.Duck breast cooked in a very rich creamy curry sauce is good texture although some chewy ligaments. The sweet potato was nice and soft but not over cooked.2020: Not often eat spicy food. Very tasty.
Absolutely outstanding! Lovely food and a luscious green surrounding. ❤️
Food was good, very fresh tasting. Limited but good menu. Excellent atmosphere - very green with real plants and decoration. Quite pricy however and doesnt serve alcohol (they have a corking charge if you wish to bring your ownwhich is worth bearing in mind
Found this restaurant just by chance and I was very impressed. The food was very tasty and the service was quick and very friendly. I cannot pronounce any of the names of the dishes but was very happy with my meal.
Just amazing. Excellent service, clean and well kept restaurant. The food was gorgeous.
Was at the restaurant with friends. The service and the staff were both excellent and friendly. I like the idea of bring your own drink. The price I also found to be reasonable. Thanks again.
Update (May 2022): After 5-10 tries over 3 months, I managed to get a reservation on the day I called as another staff member was at the phone and was really helpful! The past few times it was an old lady who answered the phone. The food was decent and very well presented (4 out of 5), and the staff was very friendly. They are often fully reserved and its impossibly difficult to book a reservation. They dont seem to check reservations on their website, and they sometimes dont pick up the phone and never call you back if you leave a voice message. The service is also pretty poor when I get through and Ive been cut off mid-sentence more than once and was left hanging as they proceeded to do other things and talk to other people. When asking about alternative dates in the foreseeable future, I was told that theyre fully booked every day and that I should head down for lunch instead (for which they dont accept reservations). I heard that the food is decent though.
I booked 2 weeks in advance for a table using their online system for a birthday celebration, only to be told on the door that they were not aware of the booking. The lady on reception was very dismissive and said they have had problems with online bookings. It would have been worth mentioning this on their website. Very disappointed - and even if the food is delicious - will not be coming here again, nor can recommend it. 0/5 star
Fantastic first visit. Very relaxed restaurant serving amazing food. The Cà Ri Tom was fabulous and the Cá Hong Háp Nuoc Dùa just as good. Worth booking a table in advance as is always busy... for good reason. Not licensed so take your own wine..
Very poor customer service, we waited 25 minutes for our order to be taken without even the offer of tap water. Starter of spring rolls, salad and dipping chilli sauce was a single lettuce leaf and soy sauce. We would not have left a tip if there had been a choice.
Terrible food, terrible decor, the smell can not stimulate the palate. My daughter ate nothing and left hungry. I do not recommend 🤮
Not much my taste too much coconut milk in the food not much decoration, kind o stinks, nice staff though, takes really long after you’ve finished to come with the bill not impressed
This is my first ever restaurant review but after visiting for my husbands birthday, I felt I had to as this was the best dining experience we have had in a very long time. The staff were accommodating, efficient and helpful which made such a relaxing experience. As for the food I cannot wait to get back to try more of the menu. Unfortunately I cannot remember the names of the meals we had but everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Well done all of the team you have definitely got it right and many restaurants in Cambridge could learn a lot from you.
Love their food and been there a number of times. Until our booking has somehow failed to be registered. Was bit embarrassing and disappointing when you have guest but no apology offered just looking at you not knowing what to do. Double check your booking!
Absolutely delicious food and BYOB. Our favourite thing to do is to pop to Cambridge Wine Merchants on route and take a lovely bottle of wine. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The plant selection inside the restaurant is amazing!
Quaint and beautifully decorated little, independent restaurant for anyone thats looking to try Vietnamese cuisine. For mains, our duck main was beautifully cooked but a little bland and our tilapia was slightly dry but beautifully seasoned - couldnt help but wonder if the food would be a little more consistent if the menu was smaller. The quality of the starter and dessert definitely made up for the mains being a little disappointing.Overall the meal was OK but didnt warrant the prices of some of the items in the menu, especially given their portion sizes - the starters in particular were very small considering some of them approached the prices of some mains.
Lovely atmosphere and staff and food attractively prepared and served, but it is just not as flavourful/spicy/intense as many Vietnamese restaurants in London. If you prefer milder more delicate tastes then would be perfect. Also no alcohol license so have to bring your own booze.
Not just the best Vietnamese food in Cambridge, some of the best food Ive ever had.
My daughter and I had lunch here today and it was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Our hostess was wonderful. She guided us through the menu with great suggestions and thanks to her we had a delicious meal. We tried some dishes that were new to us and the flavours were sublime. We would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone and we hope to be back soon to try more of the amazing food.
Delicious, imaginative food, beautifully presented in elegant surroundings. The staff are so welcoming and helpful, happy to cater for different degrees of spiciness and vegetarians. Highly recommended!
This is a really nice boutique restaurant. I love Vietnamese food as have been in Vietnam many times. The flavour was quite authentic, although they have taken the some elements of Western food. In general it was a very nice experience. The Pho was very well made and also the duck curry was quite good. I would recommend this place as a good option if you are craving for true Asian cuisine.
A beautiful space for dinner - I love the selection of plants hanging from the ceilings and walls, the privacy and intimacy of the downstairs dining room, and the array of vegan food options. The rice pancake starter is absolutely delicious and the vegan curries are beautifully made too - everything tastes as though it has been prepared with thought and care. I’ve suggested this place for dinner with friends many times in the past and will continue to do so moving forward! Thank you, keep up the great work - see you soon!
Such a lovely restaurant. Requires a booking well in advance. Able to order take away with payment on arrival. Takes 30 minutes until collection is ready. Contactless payment - does not accept Amex.Well portioned starters and mains. Nicely packaged. The starters were presented beautifully. Fresh ingredients, wonderful flavours. Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Thanh Binh is probably my favorite restaurant in Cambridge! Their food is amazing and reminds me of home. I especially love their tapioca cake and banana cake, and all of the mains I’ve tried:The place is really cozy, and everyone is nice and welcoming, imo the price is really fair given the high quality of the food. Can’t recommend this place more!
The bo tiem and pho bo were absolutely delicious and well worth every penny!
If you are looking for an authentic vietnamese restaurant, look no further. Everything we have tasted here was amazing. I came here for the Pho Bo soup, which has been really good. I cant understand the current 4.4 rating. This place is amazing.
Great food and attention to detail. With staff being pleasant and helping with questions/suggestions when asked.Amazing beef pho, that is filling without leaving you feeling stodgy and has a great level of warmth, that can be adjusted with the sides of bean sprouts, herbs and chili sauce and hoisin, that worked great for dipping beef in.Only slight mark would be the downstairs seating/toilet, as its in an older building, the ceiling is lower, so at 63 I had to duck slightly.Otherwise, would strongly recommend the dish and would go back to try more!
First time here after reading great reviews. The noodle soup was fantastic, the broth was rich, full of flavour and while bodied. The desserts were also fantastic. Try the tapioca cake with coconut cream and the red bean pudding with vanilla ice cream.
This has now become one of my favourite restaurants in Cambridge. Everything we ordered was flavorful and tasty. The price is on the higher end compared to normal Vietnamese food places - but definitely worth the price for the interior design and service.
One of the best meals we have had in the UK. Food and service were equally great. We will be going back
Lunch at Thanh Binh, prawns, crab claw and chicken noodle soup.Lovely decor, staff very welcoming and our food was delicious.
Pork dish was fine, but beef was fatty and half was left and bordering on inedible. But the worst thing was the service. Not keen on being made to feel unwelcome and an inconvenience. Plus the audacity of adding a 10% service charge for the pleasure. I wouldnt return and cant recommend.
The service was good until at the end when we nearly finished our meal, the waiter came to us and said that their card machine was broken and we have to walk 10 minutes to get cash from the cash machine nearby under the rain! Interesting thing was the waiter only spoke to two tables customers that their card machine was not working but not to the other three tables customers? Also the portions were small and the noodle soup was tasteless. Definitely wont go back again!
Good value for money lunch set, nice service and great atmosphere
Wow!! Where do i begin? I called to make reservation and even though they were fully booked, the lady was super accommodating and managed to fit me in.Staff at the restaurant were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious! The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with plants. We ordered vegetarian starters and meals. We tried the boiled banana cake and it was amazing. Cant recommend enough. Thank you.
One of the best places in Cambridge hands down!Great service every time and fantastic atmosphere! The owner always stops for a chat is very friendly. It is a great family bussiness!Food has been fantastic every time, quality has never dropped. Even when there havent been many people during the pandemic. The quality remained excellent!
My boyfriend and I have been here a number of times and it has yet to disappoint. It is truly a hidden gem! We have ordered the same meal each time because it was so good the first time — the roast duck in oyster sauce and the chicken and bamboo shoot curry. The food is phenomenal, the service is great, its BYOB, and the waitress is lovely and always provides us with good tips for houseplants (of which they have many in the restaurant). I have only admiration for this establishment and I will continue to return indefinitely.
Have visited Thanh Binh twice in recent months and on both occasions it has been exceptional. Ive lived in Cambridge all my life and I often struggle to think of quality, authentic places to eat in the city but this is definitely one of them. The service is friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere is spot on - tastefully decorated, making for a beautiful space to eat in. Plus, the food is just top notch - with lots of options for veggies too. Can particularly recommend the Pho and also the Tilapia fillets with coconut cream sauce. Easily two of the best meals Ive had out in a long time. The prices are absolutely fair for food of this quality and Id much rather give my money to an independent restaurant like this over a chain any day. Would thoroughly recommend.
The best food! Tasty and authentic. Theres a good range of meat and veggie dishes. And the owners were so nice to chat to. No alcohol license, bring your own. The corkage fee is only £2 a person. Ive been several times before and will definitely be back!
What a gem! This is a very cosy vietnamese restaurant.I was unaware that they dont sell any alcohol but it wasnt a problem as about 200m down the road there is The Cambridge wine merchant . After I popped in there for a bottle of wine then we settled into our meal. There is a corkage fee.I had the beef dish which was perfect. Exactly what it said in the menu and tasted amazing. Ill definitely be returning.
Lovely food with polite helpful staff. Owners delightful creating superb food.We have returned several times since the original review, and have never been disappointed!
Arrived 5 min before the kitchen closed (21:00after a last minute decision to stop in Cambridge for something to eat on a eat out, help out Wednesday. Yet at no point were we rushed even though we took some time to choose both starters and main course. In short; all the food was excellent! To note is that no alcohol is available, but that wont preclude 5stars.
Good and tasty clean food, well cooked light and airy restaurant. Friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended
Very fresh, tasty special menu, service with a smile. A small friendly restaurant highly recommended at a reasonable price.
You order a banh xeo and they serve you half of one!!! And what kinda Vietnamese restaurant do not have proper spoons when serving soup noodle and you have to eat with a table spoon??
Small restaurant but serve good Vietnamese food. A bit on the pricey side. Service is good and nice ambience. Mainly northern Vietnamese food.
