Thangassery Lighthouse - Tourist attraction in Quilon, India
Monday is closed pls remember. Can enjoy the best beach view from the lighthouse
The view from the lighthouse is very nice. And also it is maintained properly. It would be better for tourists if the person sitting on the top must be aware and able to explain the details and working of the light .
Situated near to Thankasheri St Thomas fort. Ticket costs 10 rupees per person plus 30 for mobile camera. It looks so simple until you start climbing the steps. Last part is a vertical ladder. Also there is a elevator inside the light house. The visuals from the top of the light house is priceless and very attractive. The best time to go is in the evening. Good for friends and couples. If you go along with kids, even though its good you have to be very careful. You can see overall view of Fort also.
VISITED IN OCT 2022. UNFORTUNATELY CANNOT ENTER THE COMPOUND AS THE OFFICE OPENS ONLY AT 10 AM.BUILT IN 1902 BY BRITISH EAST INDIA COMPANY. SEVERAL MODIFICATIONS WERE MADE TO THE 41M TOWER SINCE 1930 UPTO 2016....AFTER VYPIN LIGHT HOUSE ,TANGASSERY LIGHT HOUSE IS THE SECOND BIGGEST ONE IN KERALA.
Its a very nice place to visit, please be respectful of the staff and do what they tell you. If you have toddlers or kids who run around too much dont go to the top you can enjoy the view from the windows itself. There is a elevator which is nice. If you can talk to the staff there he is a very nice man speaks English and Malayalam. Please remember this is a functional lighthouse and not some tourist hub. Be respect full.
Beautiful view of the arabian sea, sea shoreline with palm trrees and kollam.
Thangassery Lighthouse is situated at Thangassery in kollam city of the Indian state of kerala it is one of the two lighthouses in the Kollam Metropolitan area and is maintained by the Cochin Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships. In operation since 1902
Old lighthouse, having lift service, low cost tourism, top view semma
Superb view from the top . Worth visiting. Closes by 6 PM.
Very old Lighthouse! Around 120 years old. They have an elevator which makes ghd climb yo the top easy. The view from the top is amazing, breath taking!! Must visit if in Ashtamudi or Kollam. The only staff member at the top, was very patient and helped understand the history of the place.Ticket is priced at 20 per adult
Visit there if u want to enjoy breathtaking 360° view of arabic sea.Its very crowded on holidays and weekends, proper crowd management is needed, I saw people feeling suffocated inside.
20 rs entry for adults and 10 for photographyBeautiful view from top of the lighthouse
Amazing View from Top, Tickets cost 20 per adult and they charge Rs10 for taking photographs. The view from top is surreal and very peaceful, try going on weekdays to avoid excess crowd on top as the space on top is not that good as its an old light house built in 1902 by britishers but its maintained very well. There is a lift to go on top but still there are a couple of steps you need to climb, not recommended for elderly people not able to climb stairs easily as there are some very steep steps in the last. The view is super and worth visiting.
The road to the lighthouse is narrow. The parking lot has only 4 cars space. After that the car should park on the road side. Ticket charge is rupees 20 per head. Neat and clean area. Toilets are neat and clean. Well maintained area. Lift service is there. After the lift there would be 20 to 30 steps to get to the top. Around 20 people can accomdate top. Nice view from the top. There is a store near by light house
Super view, awasome. Ticket rate is too low, to the top lift and steps available, for children a small park is their. Evening 6 is the close time for visitors
Magnificent view from top and good place to come with family
Excellent trip and an aerial view of Kollam Beach. Enjoyed the trip on Independence Day and our Wedding Anniversary.
It was really a worthwhile visit to the light house...loved the view from the light house and also to see such a historic monument. Its well maintained. And the visit time is from 10 am to 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm till 6.00 pm. There is a basic ticket rate of Rs. 20 for adults and Rs. 10 for children, Senior citizens Rs. 10 and foreign nationals Rs.50. The light house has a lift inside making it easy to reach the top, however there are few stairs that needed to be climbed to reach up. We have to remove the footwear before entering the light house. The premises also has a small park for the kids.
Good place.Good vibes.Approach road must be widened to attract more tourists.(my opinion)(The security guard told me that the lighthouse has been closed since the last two years)Edit 1.The lighthouse reopened for tourists around two months ago!
Prefer to spend evening time so that we can feel the sea breeze with view 😍.
Thangassery light house is a old light house built on 1902 at kollam now its renewed and visiting time between 9am to 6pm
Nice place.... lift facility is available ticket rate 20 per head
Amazing experience. Mechanized lift will carry you up to the top. Lift is arranged in side tower only. At top you can see the big tower lamp. Lady Guards are there inside the tower and at the top. High safety measures are followed. Visitors are required to pay Rs20 per head.
Pride of kollam. Celebrating 120 years.Visiting hours close in evening at 6pm
The kollam beach ⛱️ looks very beautiful
Its very beautiful, near by fishing harbar also there
The view of kollam city & Arabian sea is breathtaking from the top of the lighthouse. Must visit place in kollam
Edit - We sadly missed entry due to being there on a monday but got some good pics from the outside though
very good atmosphere... entry upto around 5.30-6 pm ...lift is available...nice view of sea, thankasseri pulimuttu...you can walk in pulimuttu after visiting light house(now entry to pulimuttu is restricted)...it will be a good experience. there is space available near road side for parking... earlier there was a pay and park and it is not available now...
I went here three times in the last six months, but the place remains closed to visitors. They are saying it cant be open to the public because of COVID situations. I dont know the logic behind it, as everything is back to normal now!Edited after my fourth visit on 25/06/22Happy to see that its opened for public now. The view from top is breathtaking. There is a lift facility which can be used for those who cant climb the steps.
It is one of the must visit places in kollam.Located in Tangy. From the top the beautiful Arabian sea and mount Carmel and infant jesus schools are visible. It has a lift, even though a few steps have to be climbed. It charges 20Rs per person. It is worth watching. From morning 10:00 to evening 5:00 entry is allowed.
Gud experience and now they are providing lift facilities for the people who cant climb the steps. Well maintained place
Totally worth the visit. Breathtaking views of Kollam beach and Arabian Sea. Didnt feel like descending from the lighthouse. Loved the breeze atop the structure. Theres a lift inside the lighthouse which we took only during the descent. We climbed up using the staircase which added to the feel. Well maintained lighthouse. We met the incharge who has been working at the facility for more than 25 years. Many working parts are from colonial era which added to the vintage charm.
Good view from the top.Recommended to go in when there is not that much rush or else you have to wait sometime to climb the stairs.
Nice hangout spot. Ticket rates were cheap. Only negative is that they did not allow us to walk in that small coast strip because of some development project going on there. It would have been better if it was allowed. It has a shop for ice creams and other small eatables. However, if you are a person with height issues or knee problems, please avoid it.. since the lighthouse has a very small walking stair space.
Beautiful view from top of the light house. I think going either in the morning or evening is better than being there in the afternoon.
Awesome place to visit. The light house has tell a story of decades
Thankassery Lighthouse is a lighthouse located in the village of Thankassery in Kollam district, which is under the control of the Government of India. At 144 feet tall, this lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Kerala. It is illuminated by electricity. The lighthouse provides guidance for ships and fishing boats. To reach the top of the lighthouse you have to climb the Spiral ladder. Lift facility is also available. From the top of this lighthouse, we can enjoy a breathtaking view of most of the city of Kollam, including the sea and the land. There is a nice little garden and a baby park for the kids.
Its worth a visit. Nice Ariel view of Kollam port and breakwater, u can have from the top balcony. Also have a small play area and a park in the same compound.
This place is beyond description. Loved and Enjoyed each moment there.
Thangassery Lighthouse is situated at Thangassery in Kollam district. It is one of the two lighthouses in the Kollam Metropolitan Area and is maintained by the Cochin Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships. In operation since 1902, the cylindrical lighthouse tower painted with white and red oblique bands has a height of 41 metres (135 ft), making it the second tallest lighthouse in Kerala coast. It is one of the most visited lighthouses in Kerala.
A remarkable place that once served a significant role in the maritime security of the region. Perhaps now it isnt anymore functional in the original form but as a tourist attraction it draws a lot 9f visitors.A nominal entrance fee is charged for the visit. The 41 meters high tower allows the visitors to climb to the penultimate level at approximately 125 feet height.Nearly 100 feet can be climbed using an elevator, while the steep last section has to be climbed using very narrow stairs. In all it is worth because the views of the sea, beach, the fishing harbour and the city skyline are superb.
Not so clean beach like other part of kerala but please to see and spend an evening there

A beautiful view point. The light house started operating a 100 years ago. This is the second tallest lighthouse at 41 meters. And we need to appreciate such classic constructions. The range of light beam used to be 22 nautical miles (41kmaccording to the staff which is mind blowing.
Situated at Thangassery in Kollam. View from the top of the light house is awesome. The spiral stairway is narrow. Worthy place to visit. Not sure if its currently open.
Its one of the best place to visit in Kollam.Due to pandemic they are not allowing the visitors, but its one of the best place to visit. You can have a great view from outside it really looks beautiful from a long distance, on the way to this lighthouse you can also see a Fort which is completely destroyed and a single wall alone is there.

Its 2nd tallest light house in kerala situated in thangassery which is a old Portuguese port. Tourist visiting kollam should definitely visit this place. The view from above the light house is mesmerizing.. From there we can see the costal beauty of kollam city and kollam pullimuttu ( 1 1/2 km road across the sea for protecting Harbour from high tide). Either one can use the traditional spiral staircase or lift facility is also available to get to the top. We have to buy entry pass, parking is available but limited.
