Thames Lido in Reading

I recently for a back and shoulder massage. It was really relaxing and lasted for a hour. We got to use the hottub and steam rooms after so was well worth a visit.

From the outside a little plain but once inside simply amazing. Bar is busy so a little wait for drinks but pool spar sauna steam room and restaurant are busy. If your near or want a exterior outside experience this is for you. MP

Very well done and quaint Lido. Its so pretty, the staff are welcoming and there is something lovely about being outdoors in October yet having access to the facilities. Everything is picture perfect and we enjoyed a lovely 2 course meal at the restaurant as part of our package. However, you do have to pay for parking if there more than 2 hrs which seems a bit unfair when youve paid for a 2hr+ package

This is a place to treat someone for a special occasion. The restaurant has seats right by a swimming pool, separated by a glass wall. The staff were ever so friendly, and the menu, although not extensive, has some delicious options, from the ala carte or the tapas menu. We opted for tapas and found that three plates was just right.There was some music which sounded like a train passing by, but fortunately the volume was low and did not disturb normal conversation (like it does in some places).There was a strange feature when booking online: We booked lunch for 1.20 pm and got this message in the confirmation email: "We respectfully require your table back by 2:45 PM". A good meal with more than one course can easily last longer than 75 minutes, so this limit seemed unreasonable. But nobody reminded us of this when we exceeded the 75 minutes, so it did not limit our enjoyment.I remember seeing this old 1902 building before it was renovated and it was a derelict eyesore. They have done a great job restoring it, so it stands proud now in a good location by the Kennet & Avon Canal, near River Thames.

Absolutely love this place. Lovely jacuzzi and steam rooms. Pool is always a little mild, so I prefer to use this in summer mainly. Delicious food, with poolside or indoor seating. Staff go above and beyond - great service. Massages are heavenly and nice to sit in the relaxation room with a herbal tea after. Had an exfoliation treatment with Lucy and she did a great job :)

Fab place. Loved it. My friend and I had a lovely time in the pool/hot tub and then our lunch was amazing. Cant wait to do it again. So tastefully renovated too....a pleasure to see.

First time I have been it was busy but not crowded and staffcould not have been better.We had scallops followed by a fish stew. I have dined in a 3 star michelin restaurant and many others but to my surprise the meal was less formal as you would expect but the food was to die for and so very very good 👍 😊

My partner and I went here last night. It’s such a beautiful place renovated with such care and attention to detail. The food was delicious. Love it! X

Went with a friend for a wine and dine package. Lovely little place and exceptional value. Highly recommended you try a cocktail, theyre very good. Seafood dishes seem to be the best on the menu. Will visit again, will likely buy vouchers for friends/family at Christmas

Good drink selection.Go for a nice walk and sit down for a coffee, interesting idea -> placing tables right around an active community pool.... These are not the droids youre looking for.

Lovely trip to the Lido - felt the package for breakfast and swim was a bit of a rip off compared to buying separately when the staff member attempted to add another 12.5% service charge on top. This left a poor taste in our mouths even though it was eventually resolved.

Had an absolutely amazing day! Beautiful place, lovely food and friendly staff. We had a couples massage and it was so relaxing. Highly recommend!

This is such a delightful hideaway from the world. Wonderful pool and sauna, excellent showers and a very delicious tapas menu with generous portions.Spent a wonderful afternoon enjoying the swim/massage/meal package which was worth every penny.Will absolutely be returning - its also really close to Reading station so easy to travel by train and walk!

A very blissful afternoon and evening spent in this gem. Having been in Clifton lido, there are a lot of similarities but I would say I prefer Reading, the parking facilities are much better and the surrounding is greener. The staff at reception could have not been more friendly and welcoming, made me feel at home from the moment I stepped in. The pool area is gorgeous and although it was peak summer, it never felt crammed. My only niggle, and thats not their fault, is the entitlement of some of the regular who think they own the sun loungers even though it is clearly said no one can reserve them by putting a towel on it. I eventually managed to nab one for a needed sunny nap post swim. The facial treatment I had by Olivia was incredible, best massage I had for years! The food was delicious and the service was good albeit a little slow but we were not rushed to leave this place. I will definitely return, worth the 1,5h drive.

Booked a swim, massage and lunch package for two. Staff were really friendly and although busy felt like we were abroad. Meal was delicious and massage was relaxing and worked some knots out of my shoulders.

Great place, glad to have found a modern, open air pool that makes you feel like on a holiday, food was also very nice, minor downsides the main pool was just a bit too cold & we’d have enjoyed a few more loungers, but didn’t prevent us from having a great time. Will go again

Loved the day here - staff were really friendly and helpful, picture is of our excellent dinner after the pool/hot tub use and classic massage. Recommended, and very convenient for a visit from London!

Relaxing spa days. Lovely swimming pool, lounge areas & dining. Enjoyed my massage, food & drink. Cant wait to return.

Just amazing! The wife and myself went for the swim/massage/meal package and I could recommend it enough. The swimming facilities are super clean and maintained very well. The massage, I went for Back, neck, shoulder and facial which was quite possibly the greatest massage I have ever had. Massive thank you to Lucy who was incredible. Dinner was just the icing on the cake! 3 tapas dishes plus sour dough bread which was plenty enough for myself. Ended with a delicious coffee.Book up asap! You wont be disappointed!

First time visiting yesterday. Messed up my booking and had to provide that I’d paid etc all quite embarrassing when treating a friend. Renovation is beautiful. Poolside relaxation disappointing as only 4/5 deckchairs available. All other space is used for dining tables. Massage was good. Had a male which slightly surprised by but once I initially got over feeling bit self conscious it was fine. Food was also really good however the service was not! Each and every time we wanted something we had to get up and ask. Upon arriving in the main restaurant for the 5th time to ask for someone to take an order , a girl with blonde hair was actually FaceTiming a friend at the till. No wonder we couldn’t any service. Totally shocking. Guy on the bar with short hair and piercing was an absolute misery and took himself far too seriously. Didn’t smile once and came off rather rude. We had the whole package deal when bill arrived they tried charging 12.5% on our prepaid items. So effectively was £9 service charge to order an additional drink: I asked then to remove the service altogether. Overall it’s a nice place to chill and have some food or massage. Id be more inclined to spend the day doing work bits and relaxing because for me the pool area lets it’s down a bit. Would return again. Hopefully they’ve got new staff by then !x

Nice n clean. Friendly staffs who explained to us about what to do . Especially enjoyed the sauna. The pool is lovely! Completely enjoy the lunch served in the restaurant.

Visited for breakfast and swim. I felt it was the perfect start to our day, swim for 2 hours and a delicious breakfast after with good coffee and juice. It wasn’t too busy at this time, which was great. The pool is a refreshing temperature with the jacuzzi right next to it to hop into to warm up. There is also the sauna inside to keep yourself toasty.Everywhere is very clean and I liked the emphasis on showering before entering the pool. The staff were friendly and welcoming but most importantly relaxed, I felt the service matched the lido perfectly.There is a little room with hairdryers and straighteners, which is a nice touch. I would suggest taking your own shampoo/conditioner after if you’re fussy as there is only all-in-one body/hair wash (a lovely one but I like to shampoo and condition my hair!).Can’t wait to visit again!

Quite possibly the perfect place to go on a hot day. And the spa & restaurant are fab for the days that aren’t. A gem.

Fantastic facility but most of the staff are snobs, service is slow, and they cant get any bookings right. Weve been a few times for a birthday treat spa package and they always get it wrong. Such a shame. We wont go back. Food is fantastic though and theyre so good at catering to all my allergies. Last visit we booked online, confirmed via email, called them four times, and then I went in person to sort it out, and on arrival two days later the booking was still wrong. And it took over half an hour to get a coffee, while several other regulars were served before us.

My girlfriend planned for us to have a spa day for my birthday and honestly I was very pleased with the place. Very calm and relaxing. The food was incredible and very tasty.Would recommend and definitely will be coming back!!

Wow, a hidden gem in the centre of Reading. Such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. Absolutely loved my day, especially the massage, one of the best Ive had thank you Olivia. Faboulous tapas too!

Great day in the sun and the food was lovely. At the start, we were confused. Once settled, we had a good day in the pool. Need more space and sun beds.

Had a swim and lunch booking, was just the perfect day. Not crowded, very relaxing, food was fantastic, service and all staff really pleasant and helpful. Overall a completely relaxing and wonderful day

We visited today for the first time, amazing place, limited numbers and so felt calm and tranquil. Staff are so helpful and friendly. Had the swim and dine package and already booked 2nd trip. Great facilties, restaurant food and drinks were perfect.

I spent a wonderful morning at the Lido today with friends as a Birthday treat. What a great find. The building is beautifully restored and the decor is quirky and yet tasteful and stylish without being at all pretentious. The staff are very attentive and friendly, the menu was adventurous and the food delicious. Numbers are limited in the pool and sauna area so you don’t feel crowded. Once you’ve showered in your own private cubicle there’s a spacious room with huge mirrors and windows where you can dry your costume and hair, do your make-up and get ready for coffee, lunch or dinner. The whole experience was great and I’ll certainly be coming back with family and friends.

We visited again last night... had a couples massage. Sacha & Andrea were amazing & probably the best massage my partner & I have ever had. Tapas was very tasty. Pool was the perfect temp... cant wait to visit again!!

A beautiful restoration job of an historic lido, complete with a fantastic bar/restaurant. We attended a wedding here- very attentive staff, great atmospheric venue and a very nice (if pricey!Espresso martini. Ill certainly be coming to the lido again.

The pool was OK, but overcrowded.The restaurant service was appalling, with a very limited menu. The cauliflower dish was barely flavoured but then also burnt on the outside.The pollock was equally unseasoned or flavoured, and served with an entire tin of butter beans.Go for the pool, dont stay for the pretentious, poorly cooked and overpriced food.

Lovely facilities, staff are professional and friendly. Would recommend getting a treatment and the bundle packages are great value for money. Some bits werent open when we went but we still had a lovely time and enjoyed every bit!

The Lido is a proper treat! The dinner and swim package is great value. My friend and I had a lovely swim and hot tub session followed by a delicious dinner with a bit of wine and some amazing bread. Its not cheap but we were there for over 4 hours and the quality of what youre getting makes it great value for money. I thoroughly recommend this place to everyone

Took my mother here for Mothers Day and we both loved the experience. The swim was refreshing and the hot pool was relaxing afterwards. We followed up with lunch in the restaurant, which was delicious and the majority of the staff were welcoming and friendly.

Had a great lunch with friends. Excellent service and lovely atmosphere. The tapas we tried were delicious and the sourdough bread was excellent! We were tempted to ask if we could buy a couple of the loaves we saw on the display table 😂

I had a back, neck, shoulder and facial massage today and it was divine! I was late to my appointment but was made to feel at ease. Sophie was AMAZING (highly recommendand she managed to do the full treatment in the remaining short amount of time. It didn’t feel compromised at all. I’ll definitely be back soon, such a beautiful place right on my doorstep.

Absolutely loved our day here. We did the spa package including massage, tapas lunch and use of the pool. The venue is beautiful, and the facilities great. It felt like a little relaxing haven and we were both so impressed. Can’t wait to come back!

We ordered a good selection of tapas dishes, all delicious and enjoyed in a very relaxed setting quite unique to Reading. We had a really lovely meal and our waiter was great although overall service was a little slow. One star was lost on the ice cream, my salted caramel tasted nice but had a lot of large ice crystals throughout.

Went for a swim and lunch, lovely staff, amazing Spanish inspired food and the gelato was the best!Tad on the pricey side for food if you just come for lunch or dinner but the quality was exceptional.I recommend the package as it comes with 2 course meal that includes everything on the a la carte menu so totally worth it!

Venue is unique and it may sound strange to say but Authentic. Food was fantastic and priced well based on the quality and depth of flavour that oozed out from what arrived at our table. Staff were all amazingly friendly (Special call out to Izzy)....Highly recommend especially if you want something removed from the usual high street chains in the town center...

Lovely experience with my family. Good food, lovely location, attentive and friendly staff. A fabulous setting for Tapas or A La Carte food choices. Hard to fault especially when the sun is out!

Thames Lido is a great venue with a difference. We went on the special Swim and Dine package. The pool is heated so that it’s not freezing to get in but refreshing. You can pop into the hot tub and for a real warm up one of two saunas - one hotter than the other.The dinner a la carte was fancy. Well presented. The scallops were awesome.. fresh in the shell! Main course was the sirloin slices. However, was disappointed the chef left a large piece of gristle/sinew on the sirloin (see photograph).The staff are friendly and attentive as geared to ensure guests enjoy a great experience.This venue is not cheap, it’s a premium experience. And it was not overcrowded as a result. The Lido has its own parking for extra convenience.Would I come again? Definitely to celebrate a special occasion.

Went for a Breakfast and Swim session. Amazing place in the heart of Reading that has been sympathetically restored by the Bristol Lido crew. I had the Turkish Poached Eggs which were standout and my lovely wife went for Smoked Salmon which she liked. Hot tub was nice and the pool a decent temperature. Hosted very well by the front of house team.One little niggle was they seemed to forget our breakfast and we needed to chase it which was a bit odd considering we were literally the only ones in the restaurant. However they apologised and they did not charge us for the extra drinks we had during the day. Great customer service and empathy.One minor criticism of the venue is its a bit small and there are limited areas for sunbathing and chilling outside. This is a limitation of the legacy venue so they cannot do much about it but in all honesty I think I would prefer a morning at Nirvana Spa...

Great interior and food/service was top notch! Went to celebrate a birthday and the staff were great. We had the lamb and the chicken with a pavlova for dessert. Highly recommend this, the swimming pool looks great too! Hope to come back!

A completely excellent meal, from start to finish. Fantastic atmosphere (it does not feel like Reading when youre inside), brilliant service, and the food was fresh, vibrant, and very, very tasty. Cant wait to try more of the menu. Highly recommended.

Stunning environment that has kept original features and has hi tech showers and changing facilities. Professional and effective massages and relaxing spa accommodation. The restaurant boats a high class menu plus a reasonably priced lunch menu. Theres a wet and dry sauna and an ice bucket. My husband loves it! I tried it just the once. The pool is superb, as is the hot tub. Our grandchildren found it all a complete delight and are pestering us to return!! We also cant wait to be there again.
