World-inspired vegetarian dishes served in three brightly coloured rooms and on an outdoor terrace.
I fell in love with this restaurant again after having a lovely lunch there on a rather blustery day in 2021, so when the family was headed to the theatre this weekend and lunch was required pre-show, we booked in and took our twin daughters too [fussy (when it came to foodteenagers!], and the food was just as good as I remember. They really do laugh in the face of traditional vegetarian food stereotypes, and even make Tofu taste delicious! we all ate heartily and left full ready for our performance.
What we loved: our starters!! KFC and the Hushpuppy Plumpkins. Very original and full of flavour. Our mains were very good too, I liked my spinach rosti with tofu, but my partner had the steamed buns which were nice but a bit same-y. Our chunky chips would be amazing as standards fries rather than chunky ones. We were too full to try their desserts. My glass of merlot was lovely. I went there pre-pandemic and enjoyed it back then. We found the room quite loud and dark, but really appreciated the service, our waiter Dirk was friendly and efficient. We will come back to try the tapas selection one day, even though the place is a lot more expensive than the average veggie one...
The food here really did live up to the hype - its expensive, but of a high standard. Our party ordered the vegan tasting platters and we were all in agreement that, though each item was delicious, we wouldnt have wanted any of them as a full-sized portion. After so much food and wine, one desert sharing platter was enough to go round.I wasnt too keen on the service, though. The jocular waiter frequently tried to upsell and even swooped into conversations to try to get us to buy more food/drink. But most annoying of all was that, while on my way to the toilet, he said: "Im going to bring your young lady friend out a birthday candle". It was her birthday and I thought this was a nice little gesture on behalf of the restaurant...And it was nice; they brought out a plate with Happy Birthday written on it in chocolate sauce, with a little candle and a small chocolate [see pic].Upon examining the bill, later, I realised wed been charged for it, which seems pretty tacky for a restaurant that isnt exactly cheap. It would have been a 5* review, but this left a sour taste.
Amazing food. The tapas was fantastic and the Snap, Crackle & Choc pudding was so delicious! The service was really great, the staff were lovely and very helpful and accomodating.
This used to be my favourite restaurant in the UK. Ive been several (wonderful times from 1997 to 2012. Perhaps they have changed the head chef or even their philosophy. Great service as always but the food was not like it was. The details and the light touch no longer there. All edible enough but the execution was heavy handed (especially the salt!and lacked the refinement of yore. Ive got the cookbook so I think I will be attempting their legendary dishes at home.
We had a great meal here. Massively recommend the terre a share option - lots of variety and great portion size. Staff were all really helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed supporting a truly independent restaurant and cant wait to visit again next time we are in Brighton!
The perfect vegetarian restaurant. The dishes were unlike anything I’ve had before which is a lovely change from the usual dishes you get as vegetarian options elsewhere. The food was so flavoursome, as were the cocktails!
Outstanding. We had the tapas and every single item was not only visually stunning but the flavours were incredible. The staff were exceptional and the atmosphere just perfect. Next time were in Brighton this is top of our list to go back to.
We had a fantastic anniversary dinner here - from the wine (organic verdicchio), to the vegan tapas, and to the delicious deserts. The service was great too.
This is the first time I have been out for a purely vegetarian meal. This was a fantastic experience. Knowledgeable staff and a friendly atmosphere.
Kind staff and delicious!Theres a backyard with some table but it was too noisy that we decided to come in - a shame as the space is nice and the weather was glorious. We were very pleased with our selection on our second visit. Fungi risotto was my favorite. 😊
The food was fine, but the prices were shocking and the pricing model was surprising. When we ordered dips for example, we had to order and pay for each little ramekin separate and order bread for them separate (3 dips and bread alone was about £15). The mains were so expensive as well and food was just fine not extraordinary for the price. My overall impression was that it was just too expensive for what you get. The atmosphere is not really thought about (lighting, foliage, etc). There are far better restaurants serving vegetarians and vegans in Brighton. We loved our server though, a well travelled guy, very friendly and helpful.
Well that was amazing the food is so flavorful. Probably one of the best places Ive eaten in a long while. The portions are good and the wheat beer delicious. Recommended by me. And if you know my 5 star rating you will know I only give 5 stars on rare occasions the mango and passionfruit sorbet was one of the best Ive tasted
Excellent food, great if you want a more fine dining experience. We had starters, mains and desserts (we couldnt say no). Vegetarian with lots of vegan choices. We chose mock tails and they were delightful.
Beautifully presented dishes with multi dimensional flavours - a real bijou deserving a must visit while In Brighton.
Absolutely brilliant! First time there in a few years and the food is as stunning as ever. Good sized portions, exceptionally tasty. Desserts gorgeous to look at and eat. And the orange wine is worth a try. Service and staff also fantastic - they were brilliant and helped make an excellent night! Lastly, really good value. Thank you!
Beautiful food, firrst class service. The guy looking after us was wonderful , so pleased as this was a meal out to mark the occasion of my late partners birthday. We were well looked after, with friendly helpful and unhurried service. Good recommend in drinks and deserts too. Excellent visit thank you.
A bit disappointed I must say . Just overpriced for what it is The main dish we took , the aubergine dengaku was not good value for money . There was too little food served for nearly 19 £ . Like really you starve right after . It was worth 12$. In my opinion . I preferred the kfc . And We just couldn’t drink our Pinot noir . Just too harsh . If my memory serves me correctly , organic wines available. Still. The waitresses didn’t charge us for the wine . They were adorable but we won’t come back
Stunning food! I really enjoyed it!! I had the mushroom dish as a main and it was delicious with lots of complementary flavours but also the samphire was fantastic. Its often very woody but this wasnt at all! Perfection! The dessert was really lovely too I liked that there was only a hint of verbena in the brûlée it made it fresh but not like perfume. The berry ice cream something about how chunky it was in texture really made it special. I loved it! If I was in Brighton Id be here all the time!
Have been wanting to come here for ages, and I’m so glad it lived up to expectations! Naturally as a vegetarian restaurant, there were lots of vegan options. I had the “Sneaky Peeking Steamers” which was some bao buns with tofu. It was delicious, as was the cocktail. Dessert was amazing too, I had a vegan crème brûlée which was so good!
The best vegan, possibly any meal Ive ever had! We had the vegan tapas menu and it was honestly just incredible. The cauliflower and tofu dishes in particular were mind blowingly good. And they did an affogato with vegan ice cream, my first ever. Brilliant place.
Fantastic food, service and presentation! Very tasty indeed!
We got tapas for two. It couldve been better taking one main dish than taking lots of tastes. I expected more fresh and delicious vegetable dishes, but they were kind of heavy and mixing tastes wasnt so good but it was nice to try as a first time.
Stunning, really fantastic. The staff were great, the food was both beautifully presented and delicious.
Super friendly and helpful staff. We went for afternoon tea, for a birthday and the food was delicious. I had a veggie one. A bit alternative so dont go expecting sandwiches etc. A little bit pricey but Im guess thats because of the different and high class ingredients. Also we had to wait 40+ mins between courses (savory to sweetwith a near empty restaurant which was a tad annoying.
We had an amazing time celebrating a special occasion with the afternoon tea! Terre à Terre were wonderful accommodating my food intolerances and gave me a different, but equally considered, delicious plate for the savoury tier. They also helped us out with some preferences for the sweet options and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back next time we have something to celebrate! The afternoon tea menu is a fantastic way to try lots of incredible treats from across the menu and was worth every penny. An extra thank you to Vanessa for helping me with the booking + dietary requirements.
Yummy veggie food. Some of the flavours are really just stunning. I ordered the battered halluomi dish (as starterand the dal (as maintasty! My friends ordered the KFC cauliflower which they both raved about. One of my friends enjoyed the bao buns, which I have had on a previous visit they are good and you get a decent amount of them. 3 of us ordered the snap, crackle and pop dessert and altho it was good we all agreed there was far too much mousse! Less mousse and separate biscuit might have worked better. The orange 🍊 sorbet is soooo good. Menu seemed the same as long time ago. But I guess if it isnt broke, dont fix it.... Im sure Ill be back at some point to try the other menu items I havent as yet. The staff are very professional, polite and friendly.
Oh my god! We went for the valentines Day tasting menu and it was insanely good. The KFC cauliflower wings were probably my favourite but even my omnivore partner loved everything!!
My first visit in over 3 years due to living abroad. Consistency was excellent, although the tapas has too much seaweed for my personal taste. Still 5 stars tho!
Had the most delicious meal here for our anniversary. We had the vegetarian tapas sharing plate for 2 people and is more than enough. The choices of wine and cocktails is amazing. Also Dirk, who looked after us was excellent with recommendations and generally entertaining and keeping us happy! Would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone - even if youre not a veggie, its simply amazing!
Absolutely outstanding food and excellent service. We shared the Aubergine Dengaku starter, followed by the Vegan Rosti and Barberry Biryani. Each dish was beautifully presented and was of Michelin star quality. Dirk who looked after us throughout the evening was just fantastic and great at recommending dishes and wine. It seems as though the restaurant has many regulars as they all seemed to know Dirk 😊.This restaurant is worth considering a move to Brighton for! It truly was that fantastic. We will definitely visit next time we are down from London.
Went here around 8 years ago and was truely blown away, however, it seems things have stagnated. Nothing was particularly wrong but it felt like the finesse I remembered was lacking. Chips with the main were rather pub like for the price and the service wasnt particularly warm. Interior needs a refresh but overall a nice evening.
A wonderful vegan and gluten free meal enjoyed here. The staff were attentive and resolved issues swiftly and kindly. Highly recommended for a tasty cruelty free meal.
Food was to die for. Just go. Even the meat eaters in the group found it tasty. I had the taster plates because we couldnt pick what we wanted. 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Great feel to the place. Staff are lovely. Food was delicious. Decor could do with an update but obviously that doesn’t affect the overall experience too greatly. Would definitely come again. Thank you.
Visited this place twice this week, once for dinner and once for Afternoon Tea.The dinner was fantastic! Id give it 5 stars. The Afternoon Tea i would give 3 stars. Everything was delicious, but the ratio of savoury to sweet was way off.I reckon it was 75% sweet, which meant that we got sick of the sweet stuff and couldnt even finish it. The waiter told us that very few people ever finish it, which might go to show that there is too much sweet.I would definitely go back for dinner though!
Fantastic food and excellent drinks with the best service, so helpful and informative to two total novices at the vegan, veggitian food/ menu, we will be back next time we are in the city .
The food was incredible! I really enjoyed trying everything they made and cant recommend this place enough. I cant wait to come back and try more
We drove from Colchester. We got stuck in traffic, when we called the staff were happy to accommodate. The services was impeccable, smiley, helpful and efficient. We chose the set menu, . I had a bit of the KFC, the cauliflower was tender but not soft and I had the Better Batter, the vegetables was nicely crunchy, halloumi was nicely firm and the pesto type sauce was my favourite starter. The three main courses were cooked to perfection, miner tested of aubergine without three bitter after taste, R had the rosty, again the vegetables retained their flavour and texture M picked the Fondue, it felt like a fluffy cheesy mousse. The churros were delicious but nothing like the traditional ones, I had the baked panettone, it had a custard feel to it.I highly recommend this restaurant.DELICIOUS. SUPER DELICIOUS.
Incredible experience here tonight. Weve just started to be vegetarian and was thoroughly reccomended this palace for a holiday to Brighton, even if were meat eaters! And what a reccomndation! All the food was absolutely delicious, the staff were SO lovely and welcoming and was all super covid safe (except our table and the one next to ours didnt have a screen when the rest did?)A MUST visit!
Wow! Had the tapas to share platters. Lovely flavours, smells & textures made with alot of care. Beautiful to look at too. The staff are very attentive & friendly & made it into, not just a meal, but an amazing experience. Im not one to be this gushy but its a special place & worth every penny. It pays to eat out less to be able to afford real quality places. Terre á Terre are one of those. The did a lovely birthday surprise to. Thanks to them for a special evening.
Excellent food, lovely team. Amazing to have so many vegan options. Really attentive to covid safety measures.
Had a fantastic experience at the restaurant last night. The food was excellent, flavours bursting and great cider!Im not a vegetarian but I certainly enjoyed the food.Unfortunately we had a party table right next to us, however we asked to be moved to another table because of the noise they were making. The hosts found a quite spot and gave us an extra free drink at no cost.So all round great service and nice experience.
Truly outstanding! We have been wanting to visit for a number of years and finally decided on lunch on a free Sunday afternoon. The service was excellent and very friendly and informative; the food was sublime. We decided on starter and main course and throughly enjoyed the well paired flavour combinations of the Oyster and Hen, and Hoi Sin Marinated Tofu. The main course of Vada and Ramen was exquisite and showcased very acomplished flavours. Given the wonderful service, fantsatic food and great experience it was wonderful value!
My favourite (and hands down the bestvegan restaurant in Brighton (and in the world, really!). Incredible food, the prettiest presentation and amazing service! The staff are really helpful and know the menu/food well. We were recommended a Riesling to go with my food order and it was perfect. Celebrated my birthday here and also my second visit after a year and a half, and Im seriously questioning myself why I hadnt been back sooner!Ps: its on the pricey end but its worth every penny!
Our first visit, Birthday dinner for 5.Special, unique and delicious!Catered very well for allergies (thank you to Head Chef David & Restaurant Manager, Trevor).Incredibly creative vegan options which are a must-try whether you’re vegan or not!
The food was excellent. Im not a vegetarian but it was well balanced and probably one of the best overall restaurants in Brighton. However the alcohol free beer my partner ordered was not so nice, but then again they dont make that
Im not a vegetarian as you will notice if you look at my reviews, but my sister is vegan and on looking for a place, Terre a Terre fit the bill. It didnt disappoint, the food was delicious overall (though tofu starter was a bit bland), great cocktails, and super service, not cheap but my sis loved it so was worth it!
Lovely staff, amazing vegan and vegetarian food. Will definitely be back!We had the dumplings (vegan choiceand their smokey scrunch chips. It was delicious and too much to eat in one sitting, so took the rest home for later.
Lovely dinner (lunch), great food and fab service.Decided to dine here with my husband (omnivore), it was recommended by a local friend. We weren’t disappointed!Conveniently located in the lanes part of Brighton. We were taken to our tables and our coats were hung up.My husband ordered red wine (it was vegan as are most of their wines they informed meand the better batter and lemony Yemeni relish, I got an elderflower soft drink and ordered the smoked tomato and rocket salad. It came to £35.We were both really happy with our drinks which were flavoursome, the food which was very tasty and the service which was quick. There was a lot to choose from on the menu, I would say the savoury options were better than the dessert options for vegans. The restaurant was busy, the atmosphere was good. We booked in advance via the website otherwise we would’ve probably been turned away. We would both come back again! There is also a shop section at the front of the restaurant.
