Angkor Archaeological Park Krong Siem Reap, 17000, Cambodia, Siemreab
Terrace of the Leper King - Historical place museum in Siemreab, Cambodia
rating a 1000 year temple relic. who wouldnt give it 5 stars. super chilled place bit of walking which means less crowded than some
During the rainy season the moss on the carvings, on the northern side, creates a nice coloration.
Bayon temple, Baphuon temple, Terrace of the Elephant and Terrace of the Leper King are a cluster of closely located archaeological sites all located within the large Angkor Thom site surrounded by a square moat. They are all built in the 12th century (except Baphuon temple which was built in the 11th centurywhen the Angkor Empire shifted from Angkor Wat to Angkor Thom. The large Budha faces on the towers of Bayon temple is spectacular. Similar to the architecture and construction style of Angkor Wat, Bayon temple is a mountain type temple and built with large sandstone blocks. Terrace of the Elephant is an extremely long structure, which is used as the observation and salutation platform for the King to inspect the parade of his army.
quite an experience. a unique site, not to be missed. a crematorium of old, dedicated to yama dharmaraja.
Amazing hidden carving inside.
This is the religious historical place to visit whenever you are in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Highly recommended so beutiful.
Beautiful. Best time to visit is after 3 pm.
Amazing place
Not to be missed. A very interesting structure which is believed was a cremation site. You can walk around it, as well as through an internal maze and climb on the top to see the Hindu God of Death. Really impressive and unique place.
Near Elephants Terrace and with more relief sculptures. They are newer and well preserved. There are "hidden reliefs" that you will find by entering the trench by the narrow entrance in the SW corner. Then follow its zig zag course around the terrace. If you then climb the steps in the NW corner you will see a statue of the god Dharma on top of the Terrace. This figure has later been named the Leper King. This explains the name of the terrace. There are rest rooms near by the terrace.
Equally as good at the terrace of the elephants. There are hundreds of human relief sculptures. Walk all the way around!
Sureal and nostalgic place. I love the architecture and sophisticated art.
Part of the iconic Angkor Thom complex, this terrace is a must see attraction.
Very good place for visiting
Preah ponlea felt like not fully recovered or too much obsolete by the passage of long time without proper management.Nature is beautiful and it needs to be preserved likewise architecture as well.
Exquisitely detailed and well kept walls of stone carvings. The 15th-century statue itself is not the main attraction here, but rather the impressive and incredibly detailed stone carvings on the walls surrounding it. This is an ideal place to visit if you are longing for a breather and spacious views after visiting too many cramped temples.
A must when visiting Cambodia. Theres much more than Angkor Wat, if you have the time dedicate at least three days to Siem Reap
Amazing place to explore
Really enjoyed our trip to Angkor, one of the most photogenic places on earth for sure
The front has this amazingly beautiful carved stone walls that tells you the story unknown. What sets it apart from the temples is of course the construction that creates a modulated, split level terrace. The name comes from a discoloured statue of Yama, the god of death. What also happens to bear resemblance with king Yasovarman who had leprosy. But the more appropriate name is the Elephant terrace. The no. of carvings depicting animals, fish, lizards are far more than any other wall that I had seen in the Angkor complex. But what took my breath away was the temple at the back and the beautiful and lonely natural settings. Very few ventures towards this side. But a stroll in the evening with all the birds chirping is fascinating.
us$37 to visit temples!!! Only 1 day otherwise will be $60 or more! Be very careful with cashiers who sell tickets , we gave $20 extra by mistake and when I found out she didnt want to accept and I had to grab the money from her hands !! Counting again and she couldnt refuse this time !! And everything you want to buy is super expensive!! I wonder why it should be even more expensive than the first world countries !!! Most of the reviews are from the locals which are 5 star!!
The terrace is closely located to the parking area within Angkor thom. We came after visiting Bayon. The artistic work is amazing. Try to get here early!
Super like every temple in Angkor 😊
Not a lot of things to see. It gets hot pretty quickly.
The reliefs are in good shape, so from my point of view worth to have a look.
Amazing stone carver 😍🙏
Lovely. First time I am visiting a temple dedicated to Yama Dharmaraja.
Many sculptures and icons in a quiet place. Worth it !
So much to see. So much to praise. So much to adore. Its like you turn into 18 years old once again n fall in love for the very first time at the very first sight.
This is a 12th century ceremonial structure built by Jayavarman VII.
very nice terrace with a narrow labirint all curved with characters of the Khmer culture. it deserves a visit
Impressive. Gives a taste of former times
This is not an over the top temple with huge pillars or giant statues; it is however some of the most preserved sculpture in the complex. It is one of the few places I would return to on another trip to Cambodia. Its name does not do it justice, but it is a very different experience than any other temple we visited; it can be explored rapidly or you can take your time exploring the maze- a narrow path with sculptures that takes twists and turns- a must for those coming for art.
Its a old cremation ground for high class people where the scluptures describes "yamen" (in Tamilidol who takes care of people death and dark world
It is the kind of corner that you need to walk around if you made the trip to Cambodia, it is a little hidden but the small alley that shows two walls of carvings and then go up and imagine that terrace fill of monks, generals and the field with at least one hundred thousand strong men, elephants, horses, and crowd that went to hear their king.Get refreshed before you go because is warm and almost no shadow to protect you
Nice place and very interesting. Was the podium of the King, where he gather his people and give them messages. Is not crowded, try to walk down into the "laberynth". Its very hidden and its great.Try to book a guide!
Incredible wall! Try to be there around 9-9.30am when most of the tourists are still in Angkor Wat.
Similar to Elephant terrace, this is a terrace for Lepar king, which was a funeral place for the kings in that generation. There is a statue of king presumably Jayavarman VII which has been pitted hence locals use this name.
Devansh chaurasiya did enjoy here..I did motor biking but its little crowded
I love the architecture. Felt like I was in a maze. So surreal.
Great workmanship, make sure you stop to look at it.
probably the best place if youre looking for sculptures to marvel at.. there is a nice somewhat hidden walkway underneath where the sculptures are preserved nicely..
Nice view with fresh air.
The Terrace of the Lepper King is not as grand in size as the Elephant Terrace but it is an incredible work of ancient sculptures. Beautiful sandstone carvings that have individuality and life in them even after all the centuries.
North of the terrace of the Elephants Terrace. Much more variety in the sculptures with besides the elephants, also warriors, dancers, lions, snakes etc . Even a sculpture gallery and a labyrinth.
Not a temple or great Terrance compared to the elephant. But hang along the south side to see some very intricate carvings. Some of the most detailed around Angkor
This is a small pavilion with sculptures from top to bottom of huge multi headed snakes, kings, consorts and even snake woman. Dont miss the hidden sculpture gallery accessed from a small gap between the walls near there elephant terrace with even more intricate sculptures, somewhat unfinished towards the end.
A small and short terrace with interesting reliefs on the wall. Look for the entrance and walk along the narrow passage to admire the reliefs. The passage is not very long and it is an easy walk. After the passage, you may explore the Terrace of the Elephants or the others temples nearby.
Interesting reliefs on the wall. The leper king got thr name due to the moss growing on the statue which resembles of the symptoms of leprosy. Some also say its because Yasorvarman I had leprosy too.
