Festive Latin American joint offers creative street fare & drinks in a hip venue with patio seating.
Great food, great service. The guy working was really friendly and inviting. The portion was generous and the flavors excellent. I’ve been continuously eating for 30 minutes and only got halfway through my vegan bowl.Would not skip the plantains, so yummy. The soyrizo was also great and they had cool salsas to pair stuff with.Including a picture of it half eaten which isn’t the prettiest but I wanted y’all to see how much food it was lol
Best queso in Portland! The fried plantains are a must try. Nothing disappoints and the portions are very generous.
Nice local joint with a delicious full menu of gluten-free options (GF kitchen). Queso is on point, added to nachos, even better. Brisket arepa was well made and tasty, but chicken one really reminded me of my time in South America. Amazing how flavors can bring back memories. Was disappointed that large patio was closed, but there are sidewalk tables out front for al fresco dining. There was no mention of a vaccination card requirement when we went.We will be back.Gluten-Free rating: 5/5
Dont waste your time. They are requiring proof of vaccine to sit in there. Even though we all have them who actually carries those with them its unreal expectation from a place that wants to be holier than thou.
This place is heavy on the cilantro, so look out.I really enjoyed the arepas but everything else wasnt bad just not as exceptional has them.Isnt expensive and decent service.Update 2022: not that heavy on cilantro. They work in a smaller menu but everything is still really yummy. Definitely get more than you can wear.
First off- the pictures you see listed are 100% inaccurate. They’ve change the atmosphere and there’s actually only 2 tables inside a very tiny area and a very front porch small porch. The menu only has a couple of options. The staff was pretty rude to our party. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place & they should update their google to reflect the accuracy of the place as well.
Awesome food and service. Also theyll be your tour guides if your visiting Portland
What’s going on here? This place is a SE staple. Great food, great space. Now you can’t go upstairs and there is no longer the giant and beautiful patio? I’m confused and sad to have had to walk out. It’s essentially take-out only. Hoping this doesn’t stay this way. Would be so sad to see this place go away.
Upstairs and patio is permanently closed, and the food wasn’t as good as in the past. Hopefully the Alberta location is carrying on, but here it’s Teote in name only.
Sooo good! I got the vegan chorizo and plantain arepa and it was incredible. Staff was super nice. Don’t forget your proof of vaccination for COVID as they do check.I was hungry and it smelled too good, that I forgot to get a pic.
Super fun and honest feeling. The food is generous, and delicious. The place has a very laid back and accepting vibe which is great.
The food and drinks here are incredible. Hole in the wall type of spot off the path, local vibe, friendly staff, and amazing flavors!
Celiac and Gluten Friendly restaurant! Amazing food! Highly recommend
Super strange experience, a guy came out and said "if you want to hang out and have drinks you should go to our other location"...we wanted to order food there and literally hadnt said a word yet. Huge turn off when its obvious someone doesnt want your business and driving you out the door before you even get all the way in.
Delicious bowl. Friendly and attentive service. The patio is now closed. Their site on Alberta is expanding and already has patio dining. I intend to have lunch there again as the SE location is convenient to get to for me.
Delicious, fresh food with generous portions! There is a great variety of dishes to get and quick and friendly service. Great restaurant to get some food and share with friends or family, and you are welcomed with a delicious aroma of tasty food! :)
Favorite restaurant ever. Don’t live in PDX anymore, but any time I’m there, even if I’m just flying in to drive out of town, I make time to stop.
Yummmm!! What a pleasant surprise. Something totally different and really clean real food! I can’t wait to try some different things on the menu next time!
Good margarita. We got the el diablo arepa and teote plate. The arepa didnt taste fresh. It was hard and pretty dense not light and fluffy like I was hoping. The meat was overly rich and oily. The teote bowl wasnt bad. It was just really bland. The service was quick and friendly.
Great food and drinks. The food is no just Mexican but more Latin American based. Currently just counter order with limited in dining seating. The large upstairs patio and dining area is still closed.
Im Visiting from out of town and my son stopped here, to get us lunch as its one of his favorites. Never having tried Latin American before I was wonderfully surprised by the unique flavors. It will have to be a stop repeated whenever I am down this way, thank you!
This is a perfect place to try a few things and share with other people.I went with my boyfriend and we ordered the El Diablo Arepa, a Smokey Pollo Plate, and 3 Arepitas. Everything was excellent. We kept saying that we were getting so full but could not stop eating. We were both really pleasantly surprised by the El Diablo. He LOVES pork belly so we order it a lot whenever we go out to eat (in all its wonderful formsbut it can be too fatty for my taste sometimes. But this was so meaty and delicious.I am excited to try the other location in Alberta. If I had 1 gripe, it would be the odd hours at each location. Make sure you check their hours of operation before you go to either location!!! But definitely make it a point to check this place out. You wont be disappointed.
Wonderful place to grab a filling lunch. Quick and friendly service! Definitely will go back!
I was pretty disappointed with my experience here last night. Teote has been one of my absolute favorite SE Portland spots. After diligently reading their sign on the front door I was greated not with a hello or welcome in, but an abrut barking from the cook in the back to make sure to read the second sign. While trying to read that sign the counter person who was already helping someone came over to make sure we read the second sign. While we were trying to read the menu everyone else was greated by the same angry cook in the back. Needless to say, we never ordered food. I felt bad for the person at the counter who had to listen to the cook screaming over their shoulder at the customers coming into the store.Teote was a neighborhood spot, and now Im being told to just go to the one on the other side of town instead of the one thats a 10 minute walk from my house. If you dont want this location to be a dine in establishment any more, thats fine, just turn it into a delivery and take out only location. Super bummed about how I was treated in there.
Went when upstairs and patio were closed so cant speak to those but little indoor source was cozy. Granted we were the only ones in there but food was super fast, delicious and tasted great reheated the next day too
We tried Teote for lunch today. We ordered the bowls and they were pretty yummy and came out fast. Loved the plantains and the shreeded beef was on point. The only thing that baffled me were the arepas, which were pre-cooked (maybe defrostedand quickly reheated, super dense instead of fluffy and made with made maseca or some coarser corn flour ... Not with harina Pan which is what Venezuelan and Colombian arepas are made of. If these were made fresh and with the right flour, it would have been the perfect lunch... But the arepa, which is the staple and star of any Venezuelan dish, was disappointing. The host that took our order was very nice and attentive. We liked the service.
Great food they did ask for vaccine card so make sure you bring it. Would definitely eat here again
Teote is a fabulous choice for individual or family style eating! Their food is top notch, authentic, and delicious! I recently placed a large order for a work event and upon delivery discovered that Postmates had not given me two bags worth of food. My practice manager went over to the Teote location on SE 12th where I had ordered from and they were so kind and gracious about replacing the missing food. Our team has varied diets of vegans, vegetarians, gluten free, and meat eaters - everyone was so happy to find amazing and delectable options from one place. 10/10 would recommend!
This place is hard to miss with its shout out to you blue exterior. I arrived at 5pm on a Monday and drove around a couple of times before finding a parking space.Once inside, I thought it was a cute little eatery and after placing my order for a cueso appetizer, the brisket bowl and Horchata drink I was told that there was more seating upstairs which was a great thing as the music downstairs was a little too loud for comfort. Once I climbed the stairs with my order number in tow I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of comfortable seating inside and additional seating outside on the patio.I reccomend this place to anyone in the mood for some Latin food and drinks in a comfy setting. The food was good, not extraordinary but I think the decor and ambiance is what really sells this place.
This place is amazing, with fantastic food and even better atmosphere. We came around 7 and the place looked empty only because I didnt realize there was a whole second floor up above us. Once wed order we took our number and followed the servers going upstairs with food. The main dining area upstairs is beautiful with nice sturdy wooden tables and booths and excellent atmosphere. We went into the patio which is this lovely long room with a bank of windows overlooking the street. There are only two person tables back here but we were able to fit a third on one without being in the way. Then when we went in search of a bar we found the outside patio. Its covered which was great since it was already raining. It also has a bit stone fireplace with seating and other tables to the sides and the bar in the back. The food was amazing, down to the last bite! The smoky pollo arepa, even though it looks like a small bowl was soo filling and delicious and the steak was delicious on the plate meal.
The place is a hidden treasure. The outside is pretty deceiving but its very spacious inside. The foods are very delish. The staff is great. Highly recommended.
A nice place to hang out for casual food & drinks. Outdoor patio & fire ring. Inside mellow, relaxing vibe with interesting art/decor. Could use some better airflow, especially upstairs but otherwise no complaints.
Absolutely delicious food and a chill atmosphere. For someone with severe food restrictions, an all gluten free menu that also tastes amazing is a rarity and a huge blessing. Recommend!!
The food was excellent and very delicious! I dont normally eat gluten free food, but it didnt taste any different from food with gluten. The margaritas were also really good. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone!
Awesome space with tons of flavorful options. After placing our order we made our way up to the patio over looking the street. Afterwards, we noticed there is a large outdoor patio where the bar is located. The portions are large and the food is filling. Definitely worth stopping by to enjoy a bite and a drink in a cool building.
Great experience! Wonderful food. They have a patio upstairs!
Every time I come here, it was a superb experience. First of all, their food is just amazing! And their space is very well designed, it creates very authentic feel. Also if you are in there during the summer, I recommend checking out their outdoor space! Such a chill place.
First time here. Enjoyed my time. Food and drink are delicious. Foods comes out super fast. Atmosphere is nice. Patio is the best place to sit.
Excellent Hispanic food. I would tell you how excellent it was but I dont know how to pronounce anything nor spell it. Reasonably priced bowls of meat, vegetables, rice and plantains. The atmosphere is awesome. Unique and different but very Hispanic. Customer service was perfect. Four of us had a work meeting there and its a perfect place for that. The staff was accommodating and really kind. I wouldnt suggest ever having a work meeting somewhere without making sure you tip well. Otherwise, its just simply rude.Definitely a Portland staple and I must try. I know for me, Ill be coming back.
I joined a few friends for the Happy Hour. The front on the cafe is tiny and deceptive as to how cool this place is. Take the stairs up to a larger room, pass through and down to the "backyard". Here there is a gas fire pit...perfect for a December evening.
Nice joint for a quick and tasty lunch. The (interior, and exteriordecor is overwhelmingly colorful for my preference, but, it stands out from a multitude of forgetful decor. The food was tasty. The Amas bowl, with Pebellon beef was delicious. Fried plantains was done well, and the brisket was well seasoned. The only thing I wish was done better is the rice.I like this joint, but, I think they can up their rice game! Rive was too bland, and a little watery. Service was fast, and very professional.
Quickly became one of my favorites. Awesome food, great, casual outdoor patio and bar. And a massive fireplace. When in doubt I end up here. And good prices too.
Great service, fantastic food, yummy tequila and what cool decor. For the two of us, we ordered the pork belly Teote plate, the Lamb plate, the habeñero cider, and two tequila shots. So happy and so full! I got a bowl the first time I went but the plate really did it.
This is a place that my carnivorous best friend and I both enjoy. A great place for cocktails both alcoholic and non. I do recommend bringing an umbrella during the rainy season especially if you want to go that during peak hours as there is a chance that you may have a slight wait... The line moves relatively quick though. Great atmosphere, wonderful food, awesome staff.
$17 for the below meal feels high. Its got a lot of meat, but does look small.I got the diablo arepas, added guacamole, side of mole beef, and a cucumber mint lime agua fresca. The diablo pork was too salty for me (I often like no salt fries though), and the mole was mildly sweet with a bit of a kick. The arepa (you get one splitis interesting, with a nice crunch on the outside and doughy on the inside. Personally I still prefer a really good biscuit with a bit of chew to it, but if youre stuck gluten-free this might be the best alternative. The patio and fire feature is pretty. If you sit by the front door youll get a lot of outside air (still wearing my jacket). Tables attached to floor so sitting on the bench means no back support or youre far from the table. Wifi seems to work, but signal was low downstairs and Verizon only gets 2/5 bars for me. Has pretty, mellow music playing. And food arrives pretty quickly after ordering. Their tip suggestions feel high for a counter service place (starts at 18%), but you can customize it.
Excellent casual dining joint in inner SE. Venezuelan cuisine. Very solid approach. The bowls are totally scrumptious and filling. My recommendation is to opt for the mole bowl with a side of pickled onions. The hot sauce is also amazing, as well as their selection of mezcal. The outdoor seating is also a huge plus at the Southeast gem.
This place has the most amazing food and the drink menu is stellar. There are three main areas to sit in, one outside and two inside, and each one has its own little bar. Service was extremely fast and friendly. Lastly, its pretty centrally located and I know Ill be back before too long.
This is one of my favorite places to take my friends from out of town. It is affordable, has gluten free option, great drinks and delicious food. The ambiance is great and their back porch is spacious and has a nice fire pit. I usually order their teote bowl with mole and add an arepa.
Great food here, we had the mole and the smoky pollo. Great flavors. I also got the coconut horchata, which didnt have a ton of coconut flavor, but was a very refreshing horchata. Sitting upstairs in the rooftop patio had awesome ambience.
Great casual atmosphere, delicious food, interesting drinks. The El Diablo (pork bellyis amazing. Cant wait to try the rest of the menu. Tip: go early for food because it gets *really* busy later on.
