Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville

Enjoyed taking a tour of the capitol building. It’s relatively small, but very beautiful. The security guard at the entrance was very nice and helpful.

We parked at 835 and tried to get here for the 9am clock tour. There was so much construction and closed entrances until got here late. No signs on how to get in the building here. Then we used the bathroom and sat down to catch our breath.We were sitting on couch in restroom trying to alter our agenda for the day and were put out of bathroom by a security guard. What? That is no type of courtesy or hospitality. Wont be back Tennessee.

Could only see it from afar good luck finding parking near by there was a lot of construction. I will be coming back for a closer look some day. Seems very classic and dignified.

The building stands out among others on the street. It is massive and is located on the hill. It reminds an ancient construction in Greece.

This place was absolutely beautiful, a lot of original pieces and the architecture is just stunning. The self guided tour is really simple and easy to follow. Spend about an hour here.

Very pretty. This place is the oldest functional state capitol. Its history is rich, and itself is pretty. The architecture inside is breath taking. It has a nice walking area wound the base of the hill with some statues around. One being of Andrew Johnson, our 17th president. Which is someone you dont get to hear about much.

Super cool and historical place. We had a sunny day when visiting, beautiful building.

We visited the historic Tennessee State Capital .This building is one of 12 state capitols that does not have a dome and the architecture is amazing. When entering you walk through the Motlow Tunnel. Highly recommend seeing on your trip to Nashville TN.

Somewhat underwhelming compared to other state capital buildings.

I love history and Tennessee don’t spare any expense when they built their capitol. The feeling of walking through the hall and seeing the senate and house was amazing. I think I enjoyed more than my son. You have to tour it if you are in Nashville.

Family project to see all 50 capitals and we arrived in Nashville for the New Year to cross off another state on this journey. First be aware that its located in an area surrounded by buildings and parking is limited. The geographical location can be challenging due to the steep location and hills around it. As you walk around you can view statues of James K Polk, Andrew Johnson and Andrew Jackson. Other features to see a memorial to Slaves lost in the Triangular Trade and Holocaust. Finally World War I hero Alvin York can be found at the corner of the capital. Nice area no fees

Lots of history, art and sculptures. The blocks around it have some impressive buildings and monuments. Worth a look if youre in Nashville

It was great here if youre a Guest. You can Explore Eveeything From Paintings to History. It will be Better if youre in a School Field Trip or A Private Group. In November, We Visited the Second Floor, It was a Great View! We Also went Inside of one of the Rooms Which They made Laws in Them. We Explored All the Floors. After all the Exploring, We went Outside to see the Things in one Path. It was a Much Better Trip than Going Anywhere. Its was the Best trip Ever!

Beautiful building and history. The tour didn’t take very long but was very educational. Not only the state capitol of Tennessee but also the final resting place of the 11th president James K. Polk. Had a great visit!

I wish I was more knowledgeable about US history, as I am not familiar with Tennessee very well, but this is a nice place to visit. Its at the top of a sloping hill, so its just a little hard to get to. One you make it, the view is nice.

One of the oldest working capitols in the United States, the Tennessee State Capitol serves as home of the Tennessee General Assembly and houses the governor’s office. The cornerstone for the building was laid on July 4, 1845, and construction finished in 1859. The building, one of 12 state capitols that does not have a dome, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and named a National Historic Landmark in 1971.

Inside the building was anticlimactic BUT when we walked the outside hill it was so nice! We took pictures and the little ones ran around. It was interesting and fun. It’s also really cool if you go to the capital hill park across the way to see it from a distance. Beautiful view of the capital and the city behind it. The people who worked there were very nice and the law enforcement employee at the front door even took a picture with my grandmother to humor her. Overall a fun experience

A magnificent piece of history that stands tall above the Bicentennial Mall and The Farmers Market... The interior is even more amazing than the exterior, full of history...

I enjoyed my night just relaxing and listening to the sounds of Nashville around me. It was pleasant, no one bothered me and the capital itself is beautiful at night and while I watched the sunset.

Unfortunately I went by the Capitol on a Sunday and it wasnt open to go in. It has some decent views of the park below and cool statues of past presidents.

One of the several capital buildings that do not have a dome. You can do a guided tour at certain times or just show up and do a self guided tour. Be prepared to go through a metal detector and security before entering but once inside you can wander around in your own. No entry fees to enter. The building sits on top of a hill which allows for some nice views of downtown.

Wonderful evening spent at the Capital with my children while they were able pages for the TN House of Representatives. Wonderful educational experience for them and great evening to admire the stunning architecture of the capitol building.

Awesome Capitol Building, it has a lot of history to the structure. Especially since its been around for over 150 years. The building features a lot of historical buffs and monuments. Theres even a bullet hole on the staircase from an attempted assassination back in the 1800s. All in all a great place to check out and maybe even see the governor.

State capitol, worth visiting if youre into that kind of thing. Even if not, the building itself is worth a visit.

Great architecture. The top looked like it was being repaired or restored, so it would have been great to see it in all its glory. Nice, peaceful place to walk through and around with many statues and dedications. Hard to believe it was built over a hundred years ago. The grounds are very well maintained, but the fountains werent running, probably because its winter. It is probably even more impressive when they are running.

We wanted to take a guided tour, but the guide just sent everyone on a self guided tour because she wanted to play with her phone.

Wow! The sense of history and the sense of pride that these folks have in their state institutions is really neat. The "southern hospitality" is real and on display here at the Tennessee state capitol. You can literally pop in and you might meet the governor, or members of the legislature, or the secretary of state. They are happy to have you visit! Such a neat building, too. Great for history buffs and architecture lovers.

This is a beautiful museum. It has a guide that explains the history of the building. Its free.

Beautiful building. We were glad to visit. They have self-guided-tour pamphlets available or you can choose a guided tour. We opted for the self-guided option. Dont be afraid to go out onto the upstairs balconies- theyre all accessible and offer stunning views of the city! Take the time to walk the gardens outside, also.

Located on a hill above downtown Nashville, the Tennessee State Capitol is one of the smaller state capitol buildings. Still, its very beautiful both inside and out. Also, make sure to visit the tomb of President James K. Polk on the grounds outside.

Simple, small, yet elegant building that offers beautiful views of the city, a friendly staff, a great deal of history including the tomb of James K. Polk. I would allow an hour to see the beautiful grounds and the capitol building itself. The capitol also offers a great workout with all the steps if you choose to forego the tunnel entrance or if you decide to walk the grounds.

Modeled after a Greek iconic temple the Tennessee state capital is a fine example of stone and iron engineering/ construction and Greek Revival architecture. Well worth the time to stop by and admire. The building is also registered as a National Historic landmark.Equally worthwhile is entering the structure and taking a self guided tour of the old supreme court rooms (they know meet in their own building on the same campus).

I havent been inside the capitol yet, but have walked around the grounds a few times. Even in the cold winter months the area is easy to navigate and offers lots of views of the surrounding city. There are many statutes and memorials around the capital that are worth vising.
