Tenmonkan Mujaki - Restaurant in Kagoshima, Japan
Best kakigori ever.
Place to get the popular shirokuma shaved ice. It’s basically shaved ice with evaporated milk syrup, decorated with fruits, kanten jelly etc to create a bear face (shirokuma translates to white bear). Cute but somewhat ugly too, in a good way😅A couple of beans were hidden at the bottom of the shaved ice.
Famous shaved ice milk sauce with fruits and jelly toppings that look like a polar bear face. Various menu with different flavors other than milk. Half (called babysize is good enough for one. Or order a regular size to share with two.
Mini size SHIROKUMA was just right, especially as it’s cold in winter right now. They can definitely improve the other food options; what about creating a sweet potato SHIROKUMA?? Hehehe
Even though it is almost winter, the line was long when we got there! But they were used to it, and we could get inside in about 15 minutes. We ordered a White bear with a Hojicha latte. The Shinko Dango we ordered was a little burnt, but all were delicious.
(´ڡ`)Yummy
"Why did you want to climb Mount Everest?""Because its there."Thats all.
Awesome icecream. Typical Japanese icecream, lots of different flavors.
The carved ice was nice. The large size is big so you can share with a friend!
Super famous shave ice and it’s sooooooooo good! Must come if you are in town!
Tenmonkan Mujaki has different type of restaurants on each floor. I have tried the Black Pork shabu set here. The pork is tender and easy to eat. Next time I would try the shirokuma shave ice. You have to take off your shoes in some floors, but they also provide the locker for storing your shoes too.
Keep eating till the end, there is more at the bottom! They have an English menu. Get the small size for a single person and large to share.
First shaved ice in Japan that I really liked. It was huge though, I dont know how others can eat it up so quickly! A bit too sweet, but under the right circumstances (like after a bowl of ramenits perfect.
I ordered the no1-best seller but it was too sweet for me. Even with the tasteless ice layer below. I thinks its more for students.
Lots of restaurants, bars, variety of choices.Must visit for shopping, lots of shops. Mostly closed by 7 or 8 pm.But be aware of the “cultural street” section, its the area of nightclub bars rather than the normal restaurants. We just bumped into many young guests relation guys looking for customers. Though, they are friendly to know that we are just tourist walking around the area.
Great spot. Amazing dessert and legendary spot on the island. If you are close by make sure to check it out.
Really excellent kakigori, the perfect summer time treat! Tried the soft cream flavour with plenty of fruit (mixed of fresh and canned, really good white beans in it.The Dango was the best Ive tried, salted soy sauce flavour. Soft, sticky, and warm it went well with the tea and the shaved ice dessert.1300¥ for 2 people.
Very tasty and worth the price. Highly recommend
The taste was alright...not super excited.I prefer the korean ice more. Less expectation for this popular ice would be good. They have a small size which is good
it taste really great especially in the summer. the condensed milk is not too sweet, just alright.
Ice are with 2 different size. Regular size is for one or two.person. Baby size is for one person only.
Very very yummy. Must go there and try it or else you will regret.
Big serving portions, very sugary. but also a good dessert
Being a huge fan of the Shiro-kuma ice cream, this place was a must! Perhaps I expected too much of this place but I found the decor a little dated and musty. We ordered the original shiro-kuma shaved ice and a chocolate flavored one. If youre traveling as two youll need to either order a large one or two smaller ones. I expected fresher fruits and more sweetened condensed milk on mine but was a bit underwhelmed, Ive definitely tried better shaved-ice dishes elsewhere. If youre interested in the brand and to try the "original" shiro-kuma ice cream its worthwhile, otherwise just take a photo in front of the bear in front and buy the ice-cream at the 7/11 in front of the restaurant. *Note there are other dishes served there as well.
Normally I dont like sweet stuff. But after trying a bit the shaved ice, I became a big fan of this kind of ice.
Shirokuma is the cold treat to have in Kagoshima, a city that tends to be warmer than most places in Japan. Its probably the most famous dessert spot in the city, and is well known throughout the country. While they do serve other foods, their assorted fruits in a fluffy bowl of snow is their most popular.
Amazing shaved ice 😋
Delicious with a cheap price.
The bear head is a bit disappointing as it didnt look like a bear and it was just an average ice dessert. However, the sandwich is surprisingly delicious. Good place for photos.
A surprisingly delightful place, with a bear for photos outside the shop. Inside, there’s a stuffed white bear as well. Theres a wide selection of sweet ice dessert. I tried the seasonal “brown bear head” which is hojicha syrup with vanilla ice cream and azuki red bean at the bottom.
Good Mixture of Fruits and Milk. But price here quite EXPENSIVE.
It’s just normal ice shaving with syrup. It’s not even ice milk shaving.Taste so so only!
So many variety of food you can choose from(differs by each floor), even mini Shirokuma was so big, I could not finish it after eating Yakisoba!
Nice and refreshing. The polar bear ice is a must try in hot summer.
It’s shaved ice is refreshing, seriously I don’t like sweets so plz ask my wife :p
Old restaurant famous for shirokuma shaved ice. It was nice but not really unique. Shaved ice is always great in hot weather :)
Easy to find. If you like icy dessert, it is a good shop
Disappointed base on the high number of review and high stars rating of the ice. Havent eaten ice dessert in many part of Asia such as Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, this place is the LAST on this category. Their ice is not fluffy, it is slushy. They are not generous with the fruit maybe Japanese fruits are very expensive. What was generous was the size and amount of condense milk.
Great little place to stop for a late breakfast or lunch! You get free water with ice that youll be able to refill during your meal. We had four dishes for just over €23 and we were all stuffed. The food was really tasty and abundant. You do need to get up some stairs and there seemed no way around this. Because you are above the street it gives also a nice view of things that go on down below.
Very flavorful shaved ice. The first bite was very sweet full of condensed milk. The inner layer just plain shaved ice but it mixes well with all the condensed milk on the outside.
Yummy shaved ice - you have to try this if you are in Kagoshima. Its called Shirokuma.
Tasty shaved ice. Big size is huge. Not icy, hit actually quite creamy.
Had better shave ice somewhere else.
Shaved ice was fantastic! Baby size was a lot bigger than we expected.
Shirokuma, shaved ice with condensed milk and various fruits, is a one of the famous Kagoshima local sweets. This place is the origin of the Shirokuma and it should definitely be worth to try!
taste good and huge in size. however, dont look like a bear in any angle
Came here for the shaved ice, too sweet to our Asian tastebuds, very old decor and cutlery...just alright, have had better shaved ice before. If you really keen to try one, get the matcha flavour or chocolate one.
We went on the 4th floor. We were very well welcomed even if it was late. The menu is all in japanese but the waiter explained kindly to us the card. I try shabushabu for the first time. It was delicious. Same for the sashimi. Everything was really good. The restaurant is very traditionnal so you have to remove your shoes before and you sit on the ground. I really loved the atmosphere and the place. I totally recommend. They take visa also, very useful 😀
The food is good and reasonably priced. Im unsure if they offer and English menu. The best thing they offer is the Shiro Kuma ice cream. That was delicious and can be split among three people for desert.
It seems like one of the locals favourites as I noticed not many tourists. It was nice, I cant argue that, it wasnt too sweet and was very refreshing. But compared to the shaved ice we have in Taiwan, it was a bit simple in comparison. Honorable mention to one of the mini shortcakes I ate in their trademark 白熊. That was pretty nice.
