Everest Base Camp Trekking Rte, Khumjung 56002, Nepal, Ilam
Tibetan Buddhist monastery at base of Mount Ama Dablam where pilgrims & travelers receive blessing.
Tengboche Monastery, in the Tengboche village in Khumjung in the Khumbu region of eastern Nepal on the way to Everest Base Camp trek.Tengboche is one of the most beautiful villages in the Everest region which contains Tengboche Monastery established by Lama Gulu with strong links to its mother monastery known as the Rongbuk Monastery in Tibet.
One of the most peaceful parts of the trek is this monastery, where a doggo is guarding the doors by sleeping in the middle. The monks were very nice to show us around and try to explain what they do and how they live, wanted to stay one more day there to learn and see but had to leave to finish my trek, they even made us try some of the foods they eat which is very peculiar and interesting.Totally worth visiting this path of the trek.
Please respect the "quiet areas" around the monastery.Be sure to get up early for sunrise photos.
Was told monks from Singapore and Malaysia made their pilgrimage trip here. So a fellow trekker and I went in for a quick tour while waiting for my family members to come up the hill (tough climb). We have to remove our shoes before entering. I can feel the warmth and serenity inside with two lama chanting. A sitting Buddha occupies the centre stage. No photographing allowed.
A big monastery- the main one for the region. A must-visit when passing from Namche to Debuche. No photos inside allowed, open for visitors 9am-1pm
Amazing place and peaceful people.

Tengboche Monastery (Thyangboche or Dawa Choling Gompais a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the Khumbu valley of eastern Nepal. Located at an altitude of 3,867 meters (12,687 ft), and en route to Everest Base Camp Trek, it is one of the most prominent and the largest monastery in the entire region. It is perched on a hill, at the confluence of Dudh Koshi and Imja Khola rivers, with Mt. Ama Dablam forming a stunning backdrop to the location. It is a great and fun place to visit since you can see the view of Mt. Everest and more peaks alongside.

Unfortunately we haven’t been inside, but it’s a great place surrounded by Himalayas mountains
The photo I just posted for which there wasnt describing space, so the photos just got posted. It was important post with in this Pandemic run. In pictures, on Sep 27 from Namche a group of adventure party heading on for Tyangboche (3880m|12730ft). The adventure group consists the Crown Prince of Bahrain. Great Kings and the heirs as they are choosing to have for next few months the least available life sustaining facilities in the remote Humalayas giving up the worlds most lucrative royalty and relaxing life.
One of the popular Monastery in Khumbu valley, this is the biggest Monastery in Everest region, every day praying ceremony 6 Am in the morning & 3 Pm in the afternoon, you will enjoy the Great view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Lhotsesar, Amadablam, Khangtega, Thamserku, Kwande, Khumbila, Tawache etc. Highly recommended to visit this Monastery during ceremony time & do the meditation about one an half hours.
They were scheduled to be open but unfortunately the doors were locked when I passed through. Large prayer wheels outside and not to be missed, the rock with footprints left by Lama Sangwa Dorge when he meditated here in the 16th century. Amazing scenery and history.
It is the biggest monastery in Everest region.
Lovely place with really nice people. Beautiful views when the weather is clear.
Brilliant place in a spectacular setting. If only we werent just passing through!
Serene and peaceful. Located in an amazing place - high in the Khumbu region. Mount everest can be seen from here in addition to Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama dablam.

A very special and spiritual place. Try to visit early so you can experience morning chanting. Take your shoes and hat off to show your respect.
Hard walk to go there but worth it. Book your accommodation in advance, have only 4 guest house.
Arrived when the monks were in procession, very immersive.Recommend to visit during these times.Although there is a sign outside saying no women through this entrance, just saw guides taking women through. Maybe it applies to locals only. One of the few things to see in the area, but worth the visit.Need to take shoes off inside too.No photos.
If you get a chance go inside to where the monks sleep and pray, interesting place
The Tengboche monastery comes after a days climb. This place is so peaceful. It is near the forest. You can see rhododendron flower around the area. Beautiful destination.

One of the oldest buddhist temples of the entire Khumbu region. This monastery was damaged by earthquake in 1988 and had been damaged by fire in 60s. And still the new temple looks pretty vintage.
I was there in 1993 to attend a reopening ceremony of monastery. This monastery was burnt down in 1989. Sir Edmund Hilary rebuilt this and the old monastery replacing by solid strecture. The reopening ceremony was inaugurated by then Nepal’s PM GP Koirala. Tengboche Monastery is one of the most famous monasteries of Nepal. Atop a hill across Imja Khola, Tengboche is the most common night halt after Namche. The monastery is perched on a high ridge across the canyon from Khunde. From Tengboche you can continue on to Pheriche, Kala Pattar and the hamlet of Gorakshep. From here, the site of Everest Base Camp is easily accessible. This monastery is situated at 3,867 metres, the monastery is the largest gompa in the Khumbu region of Nepal.
A beautiful monastery that is younger than it looks. The location of Tengboche means the views are absolutely stunning. You are allowed enter the monastery at certain times of day but you cant take pictures inside. It is a must visit.
In one word, simply beautiful! The monks came and opened the chapel for us to visit. Everyone was so nice to us. I didn’t want to leave...
The oldest monastery in the everest region where Buddhist people organize one of the major festival Dumji at November. Place offers meditation & 360 degrees panoramic view of mountains including Mt. Everest. Loved to be there...
Buddhist temple, interesting place to visit- monks praying
Beautiful monastery in high region, otw to Everest Base Camp. Join for the buddhist prayer in 04.00 pm.
A little late in reviewing - I visited the monastery on my way to EBC in Dec16. Its amazing how little one can care about the winter air freezing your sweaty socks to your feet, when you have the opportunity to sit and experience the monks during prayer. The intricacy and care taken in the architecture, carvings, and paintings inside was awe-inspiring as the dim light from the setting sun filtered through the stained glass windows. Their low chanting was a melodic hum while we watched the steam rise up from their tea.Although I couldnt help but wish for one of their heavy robes when I went to thaw myself off of my space on the floor.A wonderful experience to anyone who has the opportunity.
Tengboche monastery is one of the largest monastery in en route of Everest base camp trekking route. The Buddhist place have great value for the local Sherpa where few festival celebrate occasionally. The monastery set at ridge upon see sunset on Mount Everest and Ama dablam.

Divine place. Lovely Monastery. Very lucky to have the opportunity to meet the Head Lama there. On the way to Mount Everest Base Camp. Small village settlement nearby.

I visited the monastery a few years ago, its the most amazing place, I left the prayer room in floods of tears, I spent the rest of the day with the feeling of total contentment, with a silly smile on my face.I would love to go back there.Amazing place, out of this world.
One of my favourite places in the world! Incredible views in all directions, and sunrise is just magical. Definitely stop here if you can, whether or not you go into the Monastery, its just worth it for the scenery.
