Fried chicken and burgers are given a vegan makeover at this buzzy, contemporary takeout locale.
Obsessed with the animal fries, it’s a must! The vegan fried chicken is good, but not the best I’ve tried.
Friendly staff, but I honestly expected much better when it came to the chicken. Fries were pretty good, but very similar to mcdonalds fries - obviously cooked from frozen. Also it seemed to be quite understaffed, the phone kept ringing really loudly and nobody able to answer it - was hard to enjoy my food with so much loud ringing in my ears. If there were no other meat-free options nearby, I might go again, otherwise, I wouldnt return.
It’s so sad how far down hill this places has gone, the ‘chicken’ is so wildly inconsistent in texture that it goes from gel like mush to something actually resembling basic Seitan and the ‘parm chicken’ just tasted of oil and burnt bread. Waited almost 25 minuets in a quiet shop for a few pieces of chicken and Mac. Staff were friendly but that’s really not enough. Don’t think I will be back any more as only last week I had a disappointing experience in the hackney branch, too. What ever is happening, please sort it out.
Hmmm... Usually Im easy to please in regards to vegan food (Im already happy there are so many restaurants catering to vegans now!but I cant really give more than 3 stars. I had the vegan döner wrap, and (coming from Germany, the country where döner was invented, and having had countless döners (including vegan onesthroughout my lifetimeI can only say it was not at all what I expected. Considering the price, I found it to be a small portion, the seitan döner meat was soggy and flavourless, there was neither enough salad nor sauce on it compared to what you would get in Germany.. Disappointing!😔 Im giving three stars cause my friend who had the chicken was happy with his meal, and because the guy who took our order was very nice and we didnt have to wait for too long. Would probably not return though - or only to try something different.
One of the greatest Vegan dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.Great food and extremely creative interior design.Much love from Germany
Does not live up the hype, vegan chicken was soft and had no crunch and little seasoning. Would be nice to have someone greet you (instead of the self service screen& maybe would have had a better experience
Placed an order with them on Uber eats and they sent me cold left overs in tiny cups. Obviously staff wanted to go home and filled some small cups with scraps instead of giving the actual portion of food. Took my money (23£ for 2 SMALL CUPs OF FOOD). Ignored my complaints and never helped.Avoid.
I’ve been to another temple of seitan location a few years ago and enjoyed it, so I was looking forward to trying the Camden location this time. The seitan has improved so much, the new recipe is so light and chewy, not stodgy at all. Food was about £12 each for a main, side + shake which is good value in my opinion. The biscoff shake was a standout and the brookie in the cabinet looked so good, I wish I’d been hungrier so that I could have eaten it! The decor of the restaurant was bright, fun and neat and tidy. The only downside is the lack of front of house staff to greet you, you order on a machine like in McDonald’s. I usually like ordering on an iPad type system because it’s easy, but I would have preferred to see a human being at the front to say hello, but maybe that’s just me being a friendly Northerner! I’ll definitely be coming back when I’m in London next.
Loooved this restaurant so much that I almost regret going, how am I going to live without their delicious food once I go back home?? A tragedy. The mac n cheese was to die for, the wings a bit crispy and light, the burger perfectly balanced. Generous amounts of food for a very reasonable cost. Kind staff (they helped us out checking the ingredients of the full menu to accommodate a rare allergy), clean space, cute decor. Perfect!!
Its been 8 years since I havent eaten a chicken wing because I never found a vegetarian one, and this one was an amazing vegan option! I ordered the barbecue wings and the buffalo burguer. The buffalo burger was a bit too spicy for me (although I usually like spicy), but I would definitely recommend the wings! Very tasty!
I used to love temple of Seitan but I must say the quality has really gone down. Today I ordered the buffalo wings but they came as weird soft strips I though at first what was this, polenta strips? I remember their wings being crispy. The staff is also now plain down unfriendly they seem inadequate since they can’t cook properly, what is going on? I remember a time where it seemed I more like veganism was the core of this shop but now it just plain marketing turning into macdonalds only for the money, at least they serve vegan food but it is no longer the quality expected.
Service was quick, food was red hot and tasted great, £1 pot of gravy was huge, gold standard for vegan / veggie fast/ junk food as far as Im concerned will definitely be back.
This was one of the best burgers Ive ever had. Period.Im not vegan, I dont plan to be, but I could eat here every day.Im going to tell as many people as possible to eat here. This is what happens when food is done right. This is the standard vegan restaurants should strive for.Whenever Im back in North London, this will be where I go to eat.
I heard a lot about this place so Ive comes to try.a fully fast food style vegan restaurant that offers burgers, shakes, and desserts.I took their grilled chicken that came with BBQ sauce, coleslaw and pickles, unfortunately that burger didnt live to the expectation, the flavors were way too strong, the chicken mostly tastes of oil and the only part I liked about it was the pickles. I also took the Oreo Brookie that tasted really good like a chocolate brownie.
Nope This is not good. Bad food over spiced. Made with no love. Just slipped together. Staff don’t care. Lettuce soggy, seitan no flavour. Goodbye. It has high stars coz vegans a desperate for somthing.
Order of 2 x wings came as 2 x tenders. Low quality meat and standard workers with no experience in making proper food, just add a ready made sauce to low quality fried meat. Even the simple chips were half cooked. 40 min wait too.
Got an Uber eats delivery from here after having fond memories from previously eating from the flagship hackney restaurant when it first opened.Unfortunately the takeaway didn’t quite meet expectations. The seitan chicken was very spongy in texture with little flavour and the chips weren’t seasoned at all. Although the bacon on the Mac and cheese gave it some flavour, this too was very underwhelming.I don’t think I’ll be ordering a takeaway from here again, maybe the experience is best when dining in.
Really amazing buffalo wings! The best vegan wings I have ever had.I would say the burgers and wings could use some more sauce as they have been a bit dry.The Mac and cheese is also quite nice.
Very basic burgers, with ingredients that are not too quality. Its ok, but for a real great vegan meal, better to go next door.
Rather disappointing, despite staff being extremely nice. About a 30 Min wait for food which is supposed to be fast food. Food itself probably one of the worst vegan food I have ever eaten (I have been vegetarian for the last 25 years). The chickn seriously too salty to the point of inedible. The coleslaw- too much extremely heavy sauce, no crunch, heavy smell and taste of vinegar. Had great expectations but plainly couldnt eat it.We gave the food to a homeless woman who wanted it.
Amazing food and great service. Honestly the best vegan "chicken" Ive ever had - second to none. A little tricky to find but was probably just because it was a busy weekend in Camden and difficult to navigate. Superb food - must try, if youre vegan or not!
Some of THE BEST vegan fried chicken I’ve ever had! Delicious fries and tots too 🤤 loved the no sugar added drinks and even the merch was cool!
Hail Seitan!Beyond catchy marketing, a great interior aesthetic, and a menu as well-priced as it was varied. It was tasty, fresh, quick, and Ill be back!
Amazing food. They really do the best fried no-chicken burger out there. Everything on the menu is to die for. We tried the Nashville hot, the temple deluxe, the temple feast and the Temple Cheese - every single one of them was just amazing! Highly recommended
The OG of vegan fried chicken. Hands down the best quality I’ve come across. Good menu and nice variety. This was the place that made me stop eating meat by convincing me vegan chicken was worth it.
Wow oh wow! Temple of Seitan has become one of my favorite vegan spots in London! Been there a few times now and just can’t get enough of it! I got to try their old seitan recipe in the form of popcorn chicken and chicken wings just before it changed and that that was amazing already. But their new recipe for their seitan is INCREDIBLE! It’s juicy and very much like real chicken. Definitely anyone who wants some junk food needs to go here! Their Mac n cheese is also very very good - super creamy and the sprinkle of bacon on top is a nice touch. Just wish that they would offer some vegan American biscuits like what KFC sells in the US. That would complete my nostalgia for KFC!
Soo good! Cant wait to go back! This is a MUST try for anyone in London ❤️ the best vegan chicken!
Temple of seitan is a must visit for us when we visit London. We ordered a vanilla shake, strawberry shake, french fries, temple burger with fake bacon and cheese, and seitan BBQ strips with really lovely BBQ sauce. The two of us managed to eat everything but it was a struggle to find room. It was so delicious we couldnt stop 😂 I miss the canal location but aside from that little detail it is consistently our favourite vegan junk food place in London. We live in the west midlands. We hope one day their will be a location closer.
Wonderful food and exceptionally accomodating staff. Sadly the only thing that lets it down is no card payments so you absolutely have to bring cash or the app is a complicating and dysfunctional ordeal to get your food.Other positives are the super clean gender neutral toilets and chill vibe the place has as soon as you walk in. You can view and smell your food being cooked. Overall a top notch experience but they need to sort their app and get a card service sorted. As someone with autism it was kind of distressing. Thanks so much though xx
I love this place and visit most times that I come to London. The staff are friendly, the food is delicous and it is good value for London. I took my partner who is non-vegan and he also loved it. The future of fast food!
Great food! Pretty quick to come out, 7 or 8 mins in total. Its not completely clear how to order, as theres a till at the front - but its unmanned. The sign telling you to order online is hidden behind the front door - so this could perhaps be laid out a little better!
Food was amazing and friendly staff. As a meat eater I still enjoy Temple of Seitan and always opt for the wrap - the chips are especially good! I wish there was a clearer sign at the door or notice on the tables about the new website ordering system when eating in though - it wasn’t very clear and I had to find a member of staff to ask
Superb. Photo really does not do this justice at all. I had taken several pics of this glorious burger, fries, coleslaw and caramel milkshake only to discover my SD card had failed and all photos had been deleted deleted it. Luckily my partner had taken this one, but would have like to had shown the whole meal. Guess we will just have to go back. Genuinely one of the, if not the, best burger I have had. Have waited a long time to come here and it was SO worth the wait. Cant wait to go back and try more off this fabulous menu.
Never again!I never gave 1 star on any place in London. I went there with my girlfriend a couple of weeks ago. It took ages to order cause you need to use an app even if you go directly there. The app is full of bugs and the UX is terrible. I work as Android Developer so I was not happy!Once the order was ready, saw we collected it and we realized that some stuff were missing like dip sauce and chips. I went inside and the waitress was nice to help with that. Back to the table we check the burgers and they were completely wrong. Basically they didnt have some ingredients so they just gave us different burger. In the app everything was still available. I tried to get a refund, using the website, because from the app is not possible, and Im still waiting. The quality of the food was okay. Probably this place was good back in the days, but nowadays with all these new vegan places you realise that the food is very average.
Tasty vegan spot. Unfortunately opening in the heart of Camden means queues and wait times are incredibly long, but the staff are energetic and wonderful. I think there is better vegan chicken options out there but Temple of Seitan burgers are lush, and I highly recommend the tots and Mac!
I adore this place. I dont come here often enough but the fried chicken is so unbelievably good. I have been vegetarian for 15 years and this place has become my go-to place if I want a new vegetarian or a meat-eater to try some great vegan chicken. It isnt the same as real chicken (from what I rememberbut it tastes amazing and it never disappoints.
This is one of the best places to get vegan fast food in London. All of the burgers are great, the doner kebab is pretty good and the fries and chicken is of a very high standard. For vegan hamburgers, ToS set the gold standard
The most disappointing and disgusting place ever.Had to wait 45mins for the burger and it was freezing cold. They have a truly psychotic and deranged manager dan who couldnt understand a simple joke.Totally shocked that he told us to leave the restaurant because we told him to hurry up the order.
My friend and I ordered their animal-style fries and fried chicken (all veganfor take-away. I would say that the chicken was a 3/5 but the animal-style fries were a 5/5. I also really like how they offer vegan versions of all of your basic American fast food. Overall, a great experience.
You need to look for Temple of Hackney when you pull up. The building says Temple of Hackney. The food was great. I will add that the Mac & cheese looks like it is going to be hittin but it failed. Lack of flavor. With the way it looks I needed my taste buds to have been beat down. They also should add more cheese. Garlic powder, more cheese, a dash of paprika & the Mac & cheese might have been rocking a whole lot better. I would definitely go back though. This place is mouth watering. I will also add that the fries could use a little bit more flavor. If you are going to be a restaurant like this, taking real chicken out, you have to come with bold flavor, nothing minimal. They need to ramp up the flavor for my taste buds.
To be honest the name of this place is quite confusing.Initially I knew of it as Temple of Seitan but now it seems to be called Temple of Hackney.Anyway, Seitan, not the devil Satan is wheat gluten which first appeared during the 6th century as an ingredient for Chinese noodles.I was really excited in trying this place because of all the good comments and I wanted to compare it to the vegan fried chicken that I had at 2DP in Hong Kong.On the menu were burgers, strips and wings.I went for the wings with buffalo sauce as chips are just chips. It was definitely impressive as the coating was crispy and it adhered to the seitan well.Taking a bite, the texture was good and the taste was full on from the buffalo sauce which was tangy and slightly spicy. The only complaint was that it was too salty but otherwise all good.
All my vegan friends were telling me how amazing this place is so I had to come to see what’s the fuzz about! We all had different burgers which were nice and chicken too👍 definitely for someone who can’t live without fried food!
It tasted great and it definitely looked like chicken. Its a great concept using tofu and jackfruit for example and turning it into their meat counterparts. I really liked the chips, they were moist yet flavourful and it was a joy to eat. I had the Nashville hot and it definitely lived upto the name, it did have heat but was still pleasant to eat.
All vegan. I tried the spicy and the regular burger and both were delicious. The bun has its sweetness perfectly balanced with the patty which is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and if you go with the spicy option, the combination of everything its umami 100%.Also, The mac n cheese are super creamy, the pasta al dente. There is little space outside so ask to take away!
This is heaven for vegans and vegetarians alike, but even meat eaters should be satisfied if theyre open to it! The fried seitan is excellent, with a great texture. Fries are good, but the mac n cheese is fantastic and by far the best vegan mac Ive tried. I want to try everything on the menu now!
Temple of Seitan Camden is an amazing place for vegans and non-vegans to experience a delicious and interesting variety of food inspired by conventional fast food. The menu had a decent range of meals, centred around Seitan fried chicken, which were both rich and satisfying. The stand out for me was the vegan mac n cheese with crispy bacon bits. The restaurant had a modern American diner feel, contrasting the sometimes grubby atmosphere of conventional chicken shops. Overall I am keen to visit again to try the rest of the menu.
Amazing food choices and so filling. Really enjoyed the food and will defo be coming back. Its a must even if you are a meat lover
I was surprised how good the burger tasted, tastes very similar to chicken. The Hot wings were nice and spicy but didn’t taste of chicken. And were more like chicken tenders in look and feel. The prices were decent. £6 for the burger and it was a big burger. The Hot Wings were £5 and they were biiiig. They accept card and have no telephone.
Not a vegan. At first I felt the texture was a little weird and took a while to get used to. The crunchy exterior helps disguise the lack of taste and lots of Spicy mayonnaise on the side really helps. Overall I’ve grown to like this place
Fantastic, fully vegan meals to satisfy the cravings of carnists and vegans alike! Only complaint is that it is right next door to a butcher and the whole place reeks of raw meat. The raw fish stench is especially hard to stomach. My advice is to take your order to go and find a nice sunny spot to eat it, preferably upwind from their stinky neighbour. Might I recommend one of everything? ;)
