Tekka Japanese Grill & Sushi Lexington KY in Lexington

Went there for my son and my daughters birthday. I always expect good things from this group when I go as Ive yet to have a bad experience. Till now. I had to go to the bathroom and come back and the waiter is coaching my wife on how we have to order immediately once we set down???? Ordered a beer. Had to ask 4 times for it. Appetizers were complete once the beer arrived. My kids were not acknowledged for their birthdays. All in all a very weird, disappointing experience. Mainly because of the waiter.

Dinner was a dichotomy of experiences. The salad was bathed in dressing until it was essentially a soup while the rest of the meal was great! That is except for the service. We were brought boxes before we were halfway through with our meals. Then it drinks were taken away and the staff began cleaning the counters while we were still sitting there. Kind of a not subtle way of taking us to leave.While most of the food was good, I likely will not go back.

We went for my daughters 23rd birthday. Very accommodating. 6 people 3 for hibachi 3 for sushi. Sushi rolls were large and fresh. The BEST crab rangoon in town. Hibachi was typical. Show was ok. Lighting was a bit too low for my taste. Dark at 2om was not what I wanted. I want to see when I eat.

Owner should hire new management if they don’t hate money.Made them aware of my wheat allergy walking in—made sure they had gluten free soy sauce before we ordered.They said “yes” but that they had to cook my food in the back, instead of hibachi.I said “that’s fine”.20 min went by, we ordered…got drinks…then server came back and said they couldn’t actually cook any of my food with any sauce/gf soy sauce because they had so little of it.We told them we would pay more money to do so, or my family and I would have to leave.Server checked with manager and they still refused to cook with gf soy sauce.Total waste of my time and big disappointment. I really wonder if they pulled a bait and switch telling us they could do gluten free.

Unless you are with a big group they will not listen to your wishes. Sat for 15 min to then be sat at a regular table. We asked for the hibachi table. The 12 yrs olds working upfront can’t listen.

Tekka never disappoints. This was our go to Japanese restaurant when we lived in Lexington, and it continues to be when we return for a visit.The food is good, the staff is friendly and efficient, and the prices are reasonable.

The food was fresh and delicious! Will be coming back here when I’m in this part of town again.

Probably the cleanest hibachi restaurants I’ve been to. The food is consistently good, but recently their hot saki has tasted like a cleaner, so I couldn’t drink it and haven’t been able to order that. Beyond that, amazing!!

First time here and everything was phenomenal. The hibachi was good, the Alaska king roll and crab rangoons were so good.

No where near as good as most of the Japanese restaurants Ive been to. Very expensive

My mother an 2 sons "tried" to eat here for lunch today. My 3 year old was being a typical toddler and was screaming about something.... who knows. An employee then came over, pointed toward the door, and informed my mother that there were "customers here." He further told my mother to "quiet down" my son. The employee then indicated that they should leave if my son couldnt be quiet. My mother felt so embarrassed that she packed up and left. Now.... I understand he was acting terrible. I also understand that other customers dont want to hear a toddler having a tantrum. But I also understand that this restaurant advertises as a "family" restaurant. Yet my family was directed to leave. It saddens me for several reasons because weve eaten here for years. But mostly because my sweet mother who was just trying to take her grandsons out for lunch, was publicly shamed for a toddler acting like a toddler. Very disappointed.

Tekka is the only Japanese restaurant that we go to in Lexington. The food is always excellent and flavorful. Even without the entrée I could eat the soup and salad all day. So delicious. We have never had a bad food experience here. The service is usually on point as well. Some of the chefs are more animated than others but still always a great experience. I will say that I have had their sushi and I prefer Aqua but thats just personal preference.

Never had a Japanese cuisine experience before. The bartender (I ate sologuided me through what everything was, what went with what, and gave me due caution about this thick Tokyo tea alcoholic drink that got me buzzing halfway through. Very patient and thoughtful of her. Quite happy with trying Japanese food for the first time here. Feel like I got a bargain for the price of the total experience.

Awesome atmosphere, great service, and the chef was amazing!! Food was also amazing!!

Would give the food and the hibachi chef 5 stars but at $160 four people would expect the place to be cleaner. Cleanliness 2 star

Had a great time celebrating my friends birthday here! They accommodated 12 of us perfectly! Had never been and was surprised it was a hibachi-style restaurant. Will definitely be back!

I had the steak hibachi. My daughter had the shrimp hibachi. My son had the chicken and steak hibachi and we all had refried rice and mixed vegetables. I ordered the plum wine but they were out. So I got a beer and it was fine. I would highly recommend this place. Very clean very nice people.

A super fun dining experience! It also depends on the cook whose doing the hibachi and dining. The ones who do all kinds on tricks are sooo fun and worth every penny and tips for making the dining experience more enjoyable 😀. The other cooks who just literally cook and only does the "toss" tiny pieces of food in your mouth is still fun and the food is very tasty. Worth a try is you like hibachi and fried rice 🍚 🍡🥩🍤🥣🍴

The service here was excellent, the place was exceptionally clean, the sushi was great, and the price is a lot better than other restaurants of a similar nature.

This is absolutely my favorite restaurant in Lexington! I adore this place with my whole heart. I try to visit as often as I can and bring my family. The food is excellent and I really enjoy the service! I do not eat hibachi often, I usually get a dining table and order from the kitchen. The hibachi is good but the kitchen is even better! I do not eat sushi but my partner has told me she really likes the sushi here. Food is a tad expensive, especially for a large family, but I feel like it is beyond worth it. I would give Tekka six stars if I could!

Me and my friend were seated in a timely manner, but we waited for about 20 minutes and nobody even came to take our drink order. The place wasn’t even that busy, we ended up just walking out. What a waste of time.

Absolutely love this place, their firecrackers are delicious! We always get the hibachi and our chefs are so fun! Love the experience everytime and the food is always on point. The crunchy panko us my favorite part 😋

Well Ive been here multiple times but I wont be coming back. Ate there for lunch spent over 100 dollars and left my card in the payment book they brought to me. I left a generous tip and all and when I returned 4 hours later to get my card back they said there was no card left. I literally went to one place all morning and for sure left it at the restaurant. Sad they dont care to look after there customers at all. Makes sense though as the chef spilled a drink all over another family as he was making the food. Pathetic service. I wont be back and I recommend you dont either if you are looking for somewhere to try for the first time, go anywhere but here!!!!

This was my second time at the restaurant. Food was amazing but the service was horrible. I was very embarrassed because I have invited seven (7other people to join me to celebrate my husbands birthday and another friends birthday. We ordered drinks from the bar that took 30 minutes to get to our table, my wine was hot, my husbands was watered down and my friends beer was flat. Secondly, my daughters food was left off the chefs paper. He had go back to the kitchen to get her food. And the waitress spilled water all over my daughter’s seat and her phone. Thankfully she wasn’t sitting down at the time and iPhones are water resistant. Also my husband requested no veggies at all including in the rice. His rice had the peas, carrots and onions in it because the waitress messed that up too. The chef did make it right, which was great.

The appetizers were extremely mid. Miso soup need more miso or something it was a little watered in my opinion I’ve definitely had better, but it wasn’t bad. Sushi was good needed to be cut in smaller pieces no human has a mouth that big. I mean it just wasn’t something you could eat gracefully if you were out with someone, and no one wants to be that guy who’s whipping out a fork to eat their sushi. What really made up for the inconsistencies with the food though was the INCREDIBLE service. I mean top notch my waiter was the NICEST man I have ever encountered in the restaurant industry. He knew what we needed before we even asked, he quietly answered our questions we were asking each other about the dishes the table across from us ordered, and he was extremely polite and accommodating. I would 100%go back for that man alone, but also for the killer sushi…just maybe not on a first date because those slices are way too fat.

Some of the best sushi Ive had! Very fresh Ingredients. I get the Philadelphia roll and the rice was soft and sticky, the salmon was super fresh. And the cream cheese was very good. All very yummy and I highly suggest it. My hubs got the bento teriyaki box and aye every last bite.

My family went to dinner at this restaurant recently. I rank it 5 stars for the following reasons:1. Very fresh and top quality food materials, cooked in front of your eyes.2. The flavors were perfect, the meat was cooked at each customers desire. The soup and salad are always clean, fresh and yammy.3. The cook was entertaining and friendly. The server was very caring.4. The presentation of the food and dessert was beautiful and classy.5. Very family friendly, my kids love this place every time.6. Its not pricey for the quality of the food and service we received.Definitely the best Japanese restaurant in Lexington. You will not be disappointed every time.

I would give to zero stars if I could. Absolutely ridiculous service. I didn’t leave a tip on my bill because I thought I had cash. I did not have cash. I felt bad but had already filled the slip out. I took my boys to the bathroom and the waiter harassed my wife about. Then as I left the waiter chased me into the lobby causing a scene. You do not treat customers who just dropped a large amount of THEIR money on your food. Me and my family WILL NOT be back.

Took my son for his birthday tonight who is diagnosed w/autism, but loves Japanese culture. I order him chicken and noodles, but because of the sauce they put on his food he didn’t like it. I explained the situation to the manager and told him that he didn’t like the chicken or the noodles. He kept insisting that he will take the noodles, but to leave the chicken. When we got the bill the chicken was on the there for $10.50. Mind you that they only gave him one strip of chicken and my son took one bite. The manager told me that because the cook had cooked it on the grill and because he took a couple of bites (which he didn’t he only took onethat he would have to charge us for the chicken. Just know that we will NEVER come back. How shameful are you to charge a child with a disability for something he didn’t eat.

Returning customer.Food is excellent as always.Hibachi Chef wasnt very entertaining nor enthusiastic. But its fine maybe he was having an off day.Well be back again.

If I could give Tekka ZERO stars I would. The management has absolutely deplorable customer service skills! I visited with my husband and 2 friends on a Sunday evening. When we placed our order I very politely requested to order from the Kids’ Menu. I have had Bariatric surgery and have a card issued directly from my surgeon that explains this and requests for them to allow me to order this way. I realize this is ultimately the decision of the management and they are not required by law to accommodate this request. However, why would you as a business owner deny a simple request of a paying customer? This in no way has anything to do with saving money, it is simply the principle. My husbands bill alone was $45 and my friends’ bill was $70!! They also would not allow me to order a Kids’ Meal to go, I could have legitimately been taking food home for my child. This experience left me very upset and somewhat embarrassed. If you have any special requests I DO NOT recommend Tekka!

The Sushi was really good and fresh, but the hibachi and calamari were not very good. Ive never had Calamari that looked like onion rings and the texture and flavor was off. The hibachi food was over cooked and not much flavor. The only good thing to say was the broccoli was great! For the price I think there are better choices out there. I have 4 stars because the Sushi was very good, if not for that it would have been a 2.5 stars at best. The bartender who waited on us was very nice and helpful. So that would have brought the eating up to 3 stars.

I have had sushi and sashimi from Miami to Los Angeles. Tekka Japanese Grill in Lexington KY is hands down the best I have had. I cant recommend this highly enough. Ive been to Lexington twice and both times I absolutely had to dine at Tekka.

Amazing food, service, and atmosphere. My almost 1 year old loved it too. We will be dining here again and again!

Easily the best tasting prepared american habachi dining experience the wife & I have ever had. I also want to add that was definitely the most sanitary dining experience Ive had during the pandemic. Will definitely be back!!!

We had a date night here and it was a very great experience. We went to the hibachi grill and the food was great, the chef was entertaining, and the drinks were good. The only disappointing part was not allowing substitutions that would end up costing more. I love filet mignon and salmon but cant get them together. Other than that, great visit.

This place is legit, only been here twice and forgot how great it is.... Only eaten sushi and had drinks here but the quality of food, the service and really the fair pricing, cant beat Tekkas

Excellent sushi! The tuna is crazy fresh, as is everything else we had this evening. Service from Josh was excellent too! Will be back for sure!

Set at sushi bar side- order yakisoba and chirashi ! Chirash was good except some fish was still frozen, and yakisoba was salty - server was very nice and offer side salad and soup :salad was delicious. Rice was right on the point! Sticky and warm and fresh.

I enjoyed the food. The food and drinks are well worth the the price. The red silk kimono drink is a must have. I loved the presentation. My tonkatsu was cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed the presentation on the tonkatsu. The little fish drawn with mayo and the beautiful flower garnish really did it for me. The noodles were delicious. The seating is pretty close. But the restaurant is very nice inside. Definitely recommend and will definitely be returning myself.

Steak and shrimp was good. Fried dumpling appetizers were average. Just a bit pricey, but I suppose you pay that for the hibachi show.
