This park running along the coast & up to the mouth of Tecolote Canyon includes a visitors center.
Nice wide Open spaces ballparks and a really nice trail
Maybe because we were there for the heat wave but course was horrible. Almost pure dirt! Never again!
Tecolote Canyon has a plethora of trailheads running for miles. Its one of my favorite places to hike/walk in nature. Plus its in the Clairemont/Linda Vista area and the weather is never too hot.
No playground, no redtroom, not safe. People live in thr canyon. Raccoons, coyotes, snakes etc. Lots of wild rough bush. Lot easy walk. My dog picked up a tick bite and almost died. 4 days in pet hsp on IV. $$$$. He lived but a month.later still on meds. This is east edge of canyon along Genesee near skateboard park. Also a lot.of fire hazard brush.
You have to realize this is urban nature; Then, for what it is its 4star. Did not like seeing a tent off the trail in the middle of the hike (7/02/22). Some sections are super challenging on a bike
Well defined trail and nature center. Good for longer hikes with minimal elevation change. Long stretches of trail without any shade. Expect some areas that are not as secluded as youd expect (next to a golf course with "enthusiastic" players). Overall, nice trail to get some exercise and see some nature.
Ive been here now 5 or 6 times all at different times of the day, and its never crowded. Its so peaceful.
Probably one of my favorite city parks in San Diego. Great trail system. Plenty of hills for your workout endeavors. So conveniently located. Second half is shaded if it’s hot out. Great canyon views. Parking can sometimes be difficult if there is a baseball game going on.
My dogs arent great around other dogs but this trail is so wide that it doesnt cause me any issues at all.
Beautiful, mellow area to go for a walk or a run. It always smells amazing there from all the wild herbs growing. Be careful with your pups, I have seen large coyotes roaming around and Ive been told snakes have been seen on the trail.
Just gorgeous. A great place for a walk. Theres a forfeits golf course with a large driving range too. But dont tell anybody. Bring the kids. Park your car. Lather up the sunscreen. Know what poison oak looks like. Bikes optional, as you walk the beautiful canyons and enjoy the local plant life. You might see some critters, especially in the morn and evening hours.
I don’t know if it was just bad timing but this place smelled awful. Although, it could mainly be due to sewage water flowing underneath right beside the trail. Other than that, it’s not a bad little trek.
Sometimes I am afraid to get whacked by the golf balls but other than that this trail is awesome. There are different trails with varying difficulty/steepness, and it’s longer than you’d expect. Makes me forget I’m in the middle of San Diego— which is what I’m aiming for. Went with a friend and we will definitely go back.
Almost like two hikes in one. First mile plus from the visitor center has more shade early morning and more birds and is mostly flat. After we left the trees there are more elevation changes and the habitat changes from Riparian to open Coastal Chaparral. Bring extra water! The visitor center has limited hours and is only open a couple of days per week. We were lucky to arrive just as it opened and had a great time meeting Marla. She was very helpful explaining some of the exhibits and letting us know what to expect out on the hike.
Greens are in decent shape, but the tee boxes, fairways, and rough are not. Driving range is all hard mats and hard on your wrists. For a par 3 course, they actually have some difficult shots that promote either draws or fades.
Nice trials surrounded by the city of San Diego. Much smaller that Mission Gorge but offers a decent intermediate trail for hiking or Mountain Biking there are stream crossings, single track, some wooded and some more open trails. Be careful on the single track as it is 2 way and hard to see around the corners . If you are a local check it out. Probably not something I would spend time doing as a visitor unless you spend at least 3 weeks in San Diego. Also Coronado Brewing companys tasting room is close by for an after ride/hike beer or snack if you like. This place can be crowded on weekends so I would recommend mountain biking on weekdays only. Be safe and be respectful
Well-maintained and partially shaded trails. Nice morning walk.
Very fun and challenging par 3 course. Dont expect a quick round!! They do have carts, but nor too many people using them. Greens are in good shape!
Great place to go for a walk or a bike ride! The trail that follows the river is mostly shaded by tree branches that stretch over the trail (great for the summer!be sure to bring water and good shoes. the trail may be well maintained, but the loose dirt and gravel on the well marked trails make it easy to slide on the steep hills.
Beautiful trails all marked and easy to navigate we entered from a steep entrance in a neighborhood area. Very clean canyon, no trash cans do not litter! Also did run into 1 snake but only caught a glimpse before it slithered out of the trail be mindful wear you step.
one of my fav spots in the city to get a little nature, peace and quite. Watch for little friends on the trail.
If you take the trail that goes under the power lines, its killer. Nice views, but up and down, up and down. It was great though, we loved it. The wall down in the canyon is sometimes nice and shady, so you get a breather from the sun if needed.
This is my favorite trail! I go at least once a week, you can choose to go longer if youd like. It loops around, gives you some cardio and great scenery depending on which way you go. Theres a creek running through and a wooden swing in the middle. Next to a golf course. For avid hikers or for families with children.
Great hike! There are a few serious hills, so would definitely count it as a workout :)
Good hike , there are variety of loops for varying difficulty levels. There are some very steep sections going up and down the canyon . Carry water with you . There are alternative trails that stay along the sides and are appropriate for beginners or moderate effort levels.
We love hiking through Tecolote Canyon with the dog.
Family friendly, photo taking site, a bit busy for a Sunday. Weather is windy, cloudy and a bit chilly.
Great place for a run....especially when you get to the steep hill!
Tecolote Canyon Natural Park hike trail is a nice escape from the city in the city, easily accessible and you can easily reach it by bus as it is on the bus route.
Nice breeze and a peaceful easy walk on a Saturday.
We started off from a quiet neighborhood to enter this place. It starts off as an easy hike. Soon you walk along a golf course on a dry sandy path. There are some shady areas with trees but it is mostly desert. After about 4000 steps we came across this little "Oasis" with trees, a swing, and some water. I think water runs here when it rains. Even though it was reported as 63F, the weather felt pretty warm (no long sleeves were necessary).
Its really good for my older ( shes 13 dog, its mostly flat and has areas that she can rest in the shade when its hot out.
This is a great hike for all levels without having to leave San Diego.
Various trail options and topography.Fun to see the abundant foliage. Its along a small creek. Lots of wildlife also. Bunnies! We are going back with a plant identification app and learning what is growing their and what may be edible. A natural science room!P.S. Watch for rattlesnakes. My partner saw a yellow one with a black and white striped tail before the rattle.
Great place to bring kids to enjoy the outdoors. There is an indoor nature center, exterior partially enclosed area for hosting gatherings, some trails, mud (if it has rained), and bathrooms (only available during their business hours). Honestly, this park is a game changer for us. We really enjoy our visits here and consider it a hidden gem. Its a great place to unwind and just "smell the flowers" right in the middle of the city.
This is an excellent resource for many residents that live around Tecolote Canyon. The building is kept in good condition and they provide educational information. It’s a great place to start a hike through the canyon. My guess a lot of residents don’t realize this is here and part of the community.
Beautiful, accessible hiking in a well-maintained ecosystem.
Great for runners. Long paths with hills so you can go the distance while challenging your muscles. Some paths split so you have options too. Gorgeous view.
Nice hiking trail! Not hardVery dog friendlyMake sure bring enough water for you dog in a hot day.
We love going to the Tecolote nature center! Once a year they have an amazing family day with a ton of free activities for kids that encourage a love for all things nature.
Beautiful hiking trail right next to a golf course that has fantastic views. Lots of lizards walking around which is always a nice sight. Lots of sun with little shade though so bring some sunscreen and water.
Great hiking next to a creek. You will be under a tree canopy if you follow the trail next to the creek. You could hike all the way to USD and Mission Bay all by canyon trail.
Loved it. I loved walking in the trail. It was like walking in natural flower field. Flowers were amazing.
Tecolote Canyon is a lovely place to hike. Its not far from houses, schools and a golf course, so those of you whod rather hike in romote areas will be more pleased with other trails. But for those of you who dont mind hiking with the constant reminders of suburbia, this is rather conveniently located. The flowers were pretty this evening.
Good hiking area. Around a 6 Mile hike with beautiful blossoms, especially in the spring time. Not much traffic and good enough for dogs.
Great place to go and walk bike or hike. The kids liked it also. We didnt compete the trail the sun was already setting. But we will definitely go back!!
Fun nature hike! Lots of native plants, bugs, birds and lizards for the kiddos to see.
Hidden gem in the middle of suburbia! Great resource for local residents or anyone looking for some bayside canyon action. Really enjoy cycling through on the way to Mission Bay and the ocean boardwalks. Also a great place for trail running with available easy flat trails or challenging climbs and descents. Last but certainly not least is all the native plants and animals... such a mid city gem!
Pretty simple canyon, some road work been done during my visit (pipes?, was hot and apparently my dog really doesnt like the heat so he was trying to lay down in a shade the whole time, we had to turn around to go back. Being from the midwest not accustomed to rattlesnakes , uhhhhhh they have them here in the canyons. But the flowers smelled nice :)
Excellent hiking trail with a variety of natural fauna. Best keep a watchful eye in some spots as the thick brush on some parts of the trail provide excellent cover for the Western Diamondback Rattler who make their home here. Well maintained with great access.
