Te Mata Estate Winery - Winery in Napier, New Zealand
Excellent information with good wines
Friendly wine tasting on our cycle tour through the vine yards.
Had a good experience buying their wines, on duty manager Sue was super nice and kind, and helped us with our purchases. Didnt manage to do a wine tasting, but will definitely try for it next time.
We visited in April. Excellent service and superb wine tasting. The Te Mata Coleraine 20 is outstanding and was the highlight of our trip.
Excellent and friendly staff who were funny and interactive. Even though there was a 10 minute wait, they made sure we were engaged. We were disappointed that we were turned away from 3 wineries before this (not enough staff, too busy etcbut felt really welcomed here for a fun tasting experience. Their wines were great and we were happy to take $$$ worth in 2 cases back to Auckland. Keep up the great work Te Mata winery. We will be back...
Every wine was so good! Would recommend especially if you like oaky tasting wines! Thanks Kate.
We had a great tasting and the lady was nice and knowledgeable. We ended up buying wine, but on top of that we got charged the tasting.. who does that? We bought your wines, personally came to your winery, and you charge us for being there and buying your products? A strange way to get loyal customers...We went last year and didn’t get charged for it, why would it be different this time?Won’t go back
We came from Wellington and had the pleasure of having Jason talks us through the Te Mata history and wines. His enthusiasm and passion definitely shone through. We had such a good time and would recommend to anyone who wants more of an experience than just sitting having a wine.
Great experience tasting wonderful wines with a very knowledgeable Jason. Never disappointes.
Wines are excellent. Service excellent. We were served by Katie.
Great wines, feel and history.
Magnificent winery, their Zara Viognier is awesome.
Went today for the first time in I dont know how long. We knew it was going to be busy, but, nothing was a problem. Had a platter with their organic chardonnay in the sun with the dog : Lovely atmosphere and very dog friendly too. Will be back with friends and family. Thank you :)
They won me over with their cape crest sav! Amazing! So oaky!!
phoned to check if was open, were told to come over the phone, quickly turned in at 4.38. that was then arranged but we were turned off by sb different, being told tastings finished at 4.30. sad.
We had a fantastic wine tasting at Te Mata. While it was very busy in the tasting room, Jean always had a smile on her face, was bubbly, and extremely knowledgeable about the wine. Thank you ☺️
We were given a very interesting and informative tour by Hannah. Her enthusiasm for the wine, the process and the tasting that followed was infectious. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We came away with a few bottles of excellent wine. I would thoroughly recommend visiting this winery for those who want a more personal winery tour.
One of the best wines Ive ever had! Friendly staff xx
Spent a weekend in Hawkes Bay a few months ago and did a number of cellar door wine tastings. The region is beautiful, wine was great, service was great, people were really friendly every where we went - except for TeMata Estate which stood out for the wrong reasons. The staff were offhand and unfriendly, we had to ask for a tasting otherwise would have been ignored. Worst cellar door experience over that weekend in Hawkes Bay. To top it off, earlier we had bought half a dozen bottles of 1994 Colleraine Cabernet Merlot. A number of the bottles had cork failures and the wine had gone off. We do not have cork failures with ANY other wines in our cellar and therefore spoke to the lady at the wine tasting about this. The lady was very disinterested, her only suggestion was to tell us that next time we open one and find it is corked we should ship it back to Hawkes Bay - how do you ship an opened bottle of wine?? Very disappointed overall - will never be buying TeMata Estate wines again or visiting the cellar door.
Wine was ok but the woman doing the tasting seemed to know nothing about the process other than was on her tasting notes. They have an unusual grape type gammay noir but she could answer no questions about it. Disappointing really.
Nice atmosphere. Freindly Staff. Chardonnay was nice.
Good stop for a bottle.
Good wines and a excellent tasting session.
Staff here were incredibly friendly and helpful during my tasting. The Cab/Merlot blend was a real standout.
Lovely location and friendly staff. Wines were very nice overall. I was however really sad not to get a chance to taste their top wines. Why not add an extra $5-10 option to try them? Seems like a huge missed opportunity.
Have been to the cellar door a few times over the years and previous experiences have been good. However a recent trip was very disappointing as paid tasting doesnt include their premium wines. Wont be going back.
Visited on Saturday, 7 October at around 3.15 pm. Absolutely appaling customer service. The only horrid experience we had visiting all the vineyards around the area. When we walked in, the lady behind the counter looked at us and did not even Hello. We meandered about looking at the wine selections and went back to the front desk for some wine tasting and was completely ignored again. There were other guests about and each had a wine glass in their hand... honestly, award winning wines but below sub par customer service. Will warn all we know about this place. Spent ten minutes here and will never set foot here again.
Lovely wines, great person looking after the wineshop
Wines are okay, setting and ambience of tasting room could be improved
Nice area and good tasting with knowledgeable staff & and most important, the wine is very tasty!
Nice vineyard. Does tastings that are cheap, or free if you sign up to a mailing list. Staff were knowledgeable about the wines and region.
With Karl Wills under your employment you have a quality worker. A very good knowledgble person. A pity he supports Liverpool. Joking aside,I loved the tour he took me on. What an operation. Top 3 for me. Please let Karl view this post.
