Taverna Dei Canti - Sicilian restaurant in Palermo, Italy
Bad value for money (2 first meal, one caponata street food style 32€). Once you ordered waiters starts ignoring you even if theyre free. Go to vecchio club rosanero instead.2 stars for the food, which is normal.
Wish I could give 6 stars! The staff were so friendly and kind to us, despite us being tourists! They were very attentive and fast serving. The food was lovely and they went above and beyond with my small daughter, asking about serving her meal with our starters etc and even ran across the road to get her some gelato as she asked for some and it wasn’t on the menu. Little things like this go a long way when you’re abroad. Highly recommend!
The food was great and the portions very generous, and even though the place was packed, they still managed to provide a fast service without compromising the quality. The staff were super nice 😊
This place is great! Atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff is also really friendly.Especially one of its staff who was Iranian( Erfan. They know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about, and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. Food is also pretty good.
In our opinion the food is generally quite bad and overpriced. We ended up spending almost 200€ incl. tip for 4 people. For starter, main, wine and water. There are other places where you can get a lot more (and definitely betterfor that money. More in detail below, from our perspective:The positive:+ The service was good. The best thing about the place, to be honest. Good waiters.+ The wine was fine.+ The special pasta dish was decent, although expensive. (lobster pasta for 30 euros)The negative:- The fried starters were completely oversalted. Really hard to eat them at all. We finished our bottle of water in under five minutes because of it.- The caprese side had a total of *3* tiny cherry tomatoes and otherwise used greens as filler. This was not worthy of calling itself caprese.- The pasta from the regular menu tasted like it was cooked in unsalted water and was otherwise tasteless. The pasta itself kinda looked like it was mixed with watered-down pesto and tasted like nothing. The ingredients tasted fine, but there was almost none of it in the actual dish. For example, the zucchini pasta dish used max. one small mini-zucchini and 1-2 teaspoons of ricotta cheese. There was supposed to be mint in the dish – of which I tasted nothing at all. My girlfriend felt the same about her mussel pasta dish and also had an upset stomach in the night.- On top of all this the location is really, really busy and loud. Really nothing to spend more than an hour. This was to be expected, to a certain extent, but it became more and more intense as the evening progressed and it just really isnt nice to sit there.
Best of the best. Looking for Sicilian experience? Here is the answer. Middle of the Palermo, very good and quality food, services. Staff very friendly, a lot of entertaining on the street. We had dinner here and we got a big sicilian plate with everything. We couldn’t finish in 2 because it was a lot but so tasty. Limoncello at the end, not the strong one, made the experience awesome. Thank you, Sicilia!
Food good, service generally good, vibe good, small problem with somillier tasting my wine without asking me. The manager was very professional and sorted the problem and offered limoncello as a gesture of good faith...but then they tried to charge me for it. For this, they dont get 5 stars. Sick of these places taking advantage.
Lovely place. The portions are generous and the staff is wonderful. They explained all vegetarian options. They gave us a complimentary dessert to share as well as limoncello.Side note: when the cheque came in we were charged an extra 5 euros for fries (with the burger). We werent told the fries were an additional charge. So be careful what you accept. They also charge a service charge of 3 euro per person. The highest Ive seen and Ive traveled through all of Italy.
The food was great and really delicious. The waitresses and waiters were very friendly and had good English skills. They recommended dishes which were not on the menu, just ask them for their advice. Prices were okay and the restaurant was situated directly in the city center and easy to find. The atmosphere was lovely and very „dolce vita“. Would definitely recommend!!
We had superior experience with taverna de Canti! Stuff was very friendly and made our day! we had a complimentary and delicious bruccetta and amazing Aperol spritz cocktails! Prices are affordable for tourist with high quality food and drinks! Special thanks to Andrea who looked after us and fulfil our lunch with positive emotions! Highly recommended to pop in!
Beautiful, vivacious and vibrant - you couldn’t find a better spot. The waiting staff, the food and the restaurant it self are lovely. Can watch the world go by as you sit and immersive yourself in the atmosphere. The perfect spot for anytime of the day!
This cost 29€. This is how the "400g catch of the day with side salad" was served
STAY AWAY! ROB TOURISTS!!!@8oz steak charged €104.00.The menu is silent on the price.Bottle wine advertised €20.00.Bill total €161.00 dinner for one!!!!!!Steak was not that great but absolutely robbed.Gives a sour price on Italy and the tourists being robbed by Taverna Dei Canti....So many nicer restaurants in Palermo and lovely people.... just DO NOT GIVE THIS restaurant business...they will just rob you.
we came at this place because i saw that it had so many reviews . it is extremely average and typical food restu.you can find even at your neighborhood. nothing has to do with traditional Palermo style. so many young kids around . that’s the only good . but i am sure they have so much future to visit better places .of course with the classic table paper cloth for one use.very expensive prices for that kind of dishes .Crazy close distance between the tables . honestly does not worth it at all to visit this place. there are much better places to go with character and soul when in Palermo.the drinks were warm. very very veryaverage . No
Amazing Sicilian vibe. Attentive staff and fast service. The food and was delicious. Bread a bit dry and my drink was ok 😅🙂
We had dinner here immediately after we arrived in Palermo and it was a really good experience. We ordered local dishes and they were all delicious - caponata, stuffed pumpkin flowers, Ragu of Sicily and palermitan meatballs of sardines. The stuffed pumpkin flowers are really good, it was our fav. It is super central, in a super touristic area, so it is more expensive than other places, but the food was really good.
Great food and friendly staff! The only disadvantage of the place is the location on one of the busiest streets in Palermo which can be very exhausting.
Nice wine, antipasti, pasta and great service. However a bit pricey!
I would have given it a 3-4 as food and wine was solid but the location and music were extremely loud. The reason for 1* is that after asking for the bill 3 times one of the waiters came up to me and kind of demanded a 5 star rating on google, for which i would get a present. He would stand and wait next to me and even touched my phone to submit. Absolutely crossing boundaries in my mind.
Very good bruschette, friendly service and prosecco 😋
Food and atmosphere was good. But the prices are like it would be some kind of a restaurant at Amalfi coast which it is not. the starter was delicious but the squid was a gummy. Overpriced.
Expensive for what they deliver. We ordered two lots of drinks, the first one came with some nibbles the second didn’t. I asked for the stuzzichini for the second drink, I am still waiting! Not impressed given we spent €43 for 4 drinks in Sicily where the cost would normally be about €15/20 and plenty of nibbles to go with it. Overpriced and not that nice. After the response received below, I am now downgrading the review to one star. Originally I actually gave two stars for the quality of the wine, the bad review was for the service and the lack of stuzzichini for the second round of drinks. Please read the review before responding as it is not because of the wine I reviewed badly. Look after your customers and they look after you. I can drink a glass of Bellavista for €10 in my home town (north of Italywhere it is notoriously more expensive. At your bar I drank a local wine, knowing how much it cost. The problem is that I asked three times for the stuzzichini after I ordered two set of drinks, but never received the second lot. Get over yourself and learn customer service!
Came here 3 times during our stay in Palermo, really nice staff, amazing food and really good drinks, highly recommend this to anyone coming to Palermo, also the vibe of the Main Street is the top of the icing 🤌🏻🇮🇹
Food was really nice but the service was really not. I would honestly not go back - the bad service/hospitality is a major draw back and I would rather support some of the other amazing places to eat with great service!
Average food, expect to pay touristic priceService charge was €3, but only bread (simple bunswas included. Drinks are more expensive as well, I guess it’s due to its location.
Excellent starter and beverage. Main course are medium low quality according to my French standards. Some wine bottles are very expensive on the menu, this is okay but that deserve premium food and here its not the case. However the service is good, I recommend it for a stop on a hot Italian day visiting Palermo.
Overhyped for the quality of pasta you get. Service tax is 3 euros per person as well. I would not mind if the food was delicious. Pasta is mediocre at best. Ragu same. I would give 3 star but for the price I drop it to 2. If u want to pay a lot for mediocre quality in the center, this is the place to go !
The Food was very Bad And expensive.. the salumi were spoiled. The drinks were three times more expensive than in all other spots in Palermo. The service was very slow as well!We will Never eat there again !
Italian servers outside of restaurant try to get the clients with fake smile, and inside of restaurant in kitchen, foreigners working. It’s big Classic in Palermo. The food was industriel taste. We are in Italy I can not undertake Tiramisu 8€ but smelling industriels.3€ charge of service each person ? Honestly ? It’s a big joke.
Awesome place! Great food! Not expensive! We thought it could be a tourist trap but it’s not! Try house wine 750 ml for the best price!
Worst aperol ever. Waiters don’t come when you ask to come , just standing and starring. Awful experience
Andrea makes the best Vucciria sour!! Really fun spot! Get the French fries too.
The service is fabulous, super friendly, helpful, and fast. Andrea is a wonderful bartender and their vucciria sour is amazing! I don’t even like gin but I ordered a second. It is also a great location for groups with mixed diets of vegan and meat eating. I am including the vegan options in the menu, just order without cheese where I highlighted in red. Highly recommend!
Amazing food and experience, the vibe is so beautiful, the staff kind and helpful and the food is delicious. I recommend trying the vucciria sour if you’re looking for a good cocktail ;)
Very bad food, maybe looks good but even I can cook better... Long time to wait for anything. Good location may make high prices and low quality. The waiter proposed special of the day which was the worst and the most expensive from everything you can choose :/ (pasta with shrimp mean ONE big shrimp cost 26€)The worst experience in Sicily.
This was the best food experience ever : if you are looking for real Sicilian food and drink experience, this is the place to visit! Highly recommended!
Good tasting Sicilian pasta and good service up until receiving the bill. A service chargé of 3 euros per person is added to every bill, and when I asked about it the gentleman was very rude saying Lady it’s like that at every restaurant you go to, to which I have travelled all around Italy and Europe and have never received this charge. I was planning on giving them a higher rating but the same guy looked over my shoulder at my phone and started challenging me on my review making my friends and I extremely uncomfortable. Would not recommend based off this encounter alone.
Actually we were hesitant to eat here and avoiding the “tourist” strip of restaurants… We ended up defeated after reviews and calls and bookings filled and walking all over town. We didn’t know what to expect and were this very surprised at how clever and tasteful and seemingly well prepared the food was… Very good, I’d eat it again and in fact looking at my photos I am wishing I could eat it now! Very happy with the experience albeit it incredibly busy and energetic and shoulder to shoulder in many ways. They found a way to keep service functional and overall quite fast without compromising quality. They have my respects! Cheers…
Great pasta dishes, home made bread, nice mood.
Typical tourist trap. Price level of fine dining venue, food is just ok - nothing exceptional. Bread was not fresh, service is quite rude despite highest coperto (service feeIve ever saw in Italy. At the end they pretended that cash machine is not working and asked to pay in cash, so I could assume they are not even paying taxes.
Just wow! Saw their fresh Sicilian platters whilst walking past and had to stop for one.An absolute treat and all for €37. Squid, salami, ham, mortadella, blue cheese so so much and all incredible.Staff here aren’t shouting at you in the street yo get your business like some other places along the street.
I stopped by at this place and the food is really good, super friendly staff that take care of you, highly recommended!
Good food and had drinks at reasonable prices. Would recommend to chill out here after 6pm.Music is really good. GIUSI was super friendly and made sure we had a good time! Try the aubergine caponata and the pumpkin flowers!
I can say it was a very bad experience, the squid pasta were the worst dish Ive ever had, I almost never give bad reviews, but the noodles were still hard, the fried squid was not fresh and looked like it had been there for a few days, the service was not good either, we waited for more than 20 minutes for the bill. I feel so disappointed....
We had a great time, the food was good and so was the atmosphere. Not cheap but worth a visit.
Came for a late lunch/early dinner. We were a party of 6, ordered Black Ink Pasta, Ragu, Alla Norma, Carbonara and they were all amazing. Aperol Spritz was just ok. Would come back again.
Very polite and fun waiters! When sitting here you can look at all the people in the streets while enyoing the great wine and food! They also have some cocktails, I would definitely recommend the Aperol Spritz!
Why I give just one star? Honestly the place its amazing and the food is so good I really recommend to order the Carbonara pasta, but the waitress said to us to pay by cash because the machine card was not working, so she asked us to go to an ATM and take the cash (we have to pay a commission as we are from Spain), until here everything ok, the surprise was that the rest of the people (curiosly Italianwere paying by cars so we didnt understand why we need to pay by cash, well I understand, because we are foreign and they have to pay a commission on the terminal, very very bad manage this with us, really you live thank you to the tourists and this is not the way to treat us.
Beautifully decorated place in a number of other restaurants on the street. First of all, the approach of the hosts delighted me! Knowledge of English is perfect and he is very kind. For the appetizer we ordered stuffed pumpkins which were very tasty and for the main course pasta. Crabonara is a little bitter than the one Im used to. In the end we got Amaro from the house which really surprised us.Very nice place with a top young team.
Food was really good at this place, despite finding a small piece of glass in the first dish.(mistakes happenbut I was more surprised when presented with the bill that the dish with the piece of glass in it was still there. Not to mention a 5euro service charge per person.Food was good but would expect better service considering.
