Modern-art gallery with international works on display, plus a cafe with panoramic river views.
I did underestimate how much time you need here to view the art. I found the staff so helpful. I had a nice tea and cake in the cafe. When it says it closes at 6pm, they mean everyone out before then. I was too late to get to the shop before it shut at 5:40. But will come back and revisit soon.
The Tate Modern is a modern art gallery with temporary and permanent displays. There is a charge for any main temporary exhibition. It is free to enter for its permanent collection with a suggested minimum donation of £5.It is a lovely wall over Millennium Bridge from St Pauls direction. The gallery opens at 10am. There are lifts to all floors stairs and escalators. There are toilets on all floors. It is quite wheelchair friendly. There is a cloakroom. The Cezanne exhibition is fantastic and brings together paintings held in collections all around the world. There is a free audio guide with the entrance fee. It is £18 to go in without donation. It is £9 to enter with an Art Pass. There is a main cafe on the third floor. It is quite expensive. A hot chocolate costs £4.30, Coffee £3.30.
The gallery is open to all and some temporary exhibitions are paid for but reasonable pricing. The building is amazing architecture piece and staff are very friendly and welcoming, they will take you to the exhibition if you lost. The place is really great with loads of space to draw information is clear and easy to read and accessible for kids and adults height of eyesight.
Free art for everybody. What else? Just a shame that many contemporary art pieces such as Warhol and Rothko are not there anymore. Book your visit for the temporary expos. I loved the shops on the ground floor and first floor. The café is ok, just nothing remarkable.
The building is beautiful. The spaces in the room feel open and spacious. The curators have connected pieces in interesting ways to tell you about the history, or message being conveyed.Im an armature painter and so love how I can get so close to the paintings to see how it was constructed. Very inspirational. Love this place.
There is something for everyone here, and its free to enter, so its really worth a visit. A large majority of the exhibitions are free, and they change quite frequently, so its different and you see something new every time you go. Even if you go often, as its so big. There is quite a lot of interactive pieces and some very clever work.
The museum has free exhibits which are really interesting. The one I liked the most was the surrealism one. They also have paid exhibitions which price is very affordable (around 11 £). I would have liked to visit the lights and infinite mirrors exhibition, but the tickets were sold out, so remember to book the tickets in advance.
Fantastic collection of various modern arts genres and special exhibits in a amazing old factory space. Many floors of art with elevators and escalators for easy access. It is free of course but extra for special exhibits like Cezanne as of today. Easy location near south shore of the Millennium bridge.
This is by far my favourite museum to visit. It is a very spacious museum that make you feel like you are in an open space indoors. Very wheelchair accessible. Kid friendly, as there is usually stuff about to keep them amused. Due to its spacious rooms, there are quite a few large installation works. One of the museums where you can see some of surrealist Salvatore Dalis artwork. There is a restaurant on the ground floor of the museum as well as gift shop. Plenty of toilets so no cueing. There is some green space outside the museum where you can enjoy the sun in the warm months. The location of the museum is what makes it unique. Located on the South Bankside of the Thames, it allow you access to the London skyline and the bridges. A slow walk up the South Bank gives you access to numerous restaurants and landmarks.
We started our day in the Tate Modern and to be honest we werent very impressed with the building itself. The map we found inside was not very helpful and we had entered the building on the side accessible only to members. The exhibits were interesting but poorly laid out meaning it would be easy to miss sections. Also a shame that so much of the museum requires an additional ticket or membership.
This must definitely be one of the best galleries in London for modern art. The interesting space of the gallery allows for the presentation of unique exhibitions. It is incredible that the entrance to the gallery is for free. Only, the special exhibitions require advance booking and / or the purchase of tickets. The Tate Modern is easily accessible by public transport . It is one of the must see attractions in London.
5 starts! It’s always free to visit, you only need ticket for some special exhibitions.I recommend to go on the last Friday of the month, for Fridays Late. Basically the museums stays up until later and there are a lot of events, temporary exhibitions, talks and music, really cool atmosphere!! ☺️
If you have even a passing interest in modern art youve gotta check out this place. Free general admission (fee for only a few special exhibits), two buildings full of immersive and sometimes interactive art, and the buildings themselves are an architectural masterpiece. No better way to spend a few hours in London for free.
A well curated museum with themed galleries that are not only educational but also encourages visitors to think deeper about their relationships with art and how art evolves with and are reflective of their times. The free guided tours between 12pm to 2pm (45mins each covering 5-6 piecesare led by fantastic and knowledgeable volunteers who provide great information and insight. Highly recommended. If you take your time, you can easily spend the entire day here. Food options are limited at the Espresso bar but good for a quick bite. Toilet cleanliness could be improved at busier times.
A beautiful museum with fantastic pieces to see. The exhibitions are amazing, its a shame they sell out so quickly. A great place to educate yourself and see something different. The staff here are very welcoming. Its also a great place to visit for a date!
One of my favorite museums in London, which says a lot considering how many great museums there are. The Tate has probably the best surrealist collection I have seen anywhere. They certainly earned the Modern label, their contemporary collection was fantastic. Babel has become possibly my favorite piece of modern art. I regret not having enough time in London to have visited the Tate Modern again, or to have seen the other Tates.
A superb collection of modern art AND it is free to enter. The location is also very good with easy access. The café at the top also offers spectacular views of River Thames and London. It can get very busy at times though. It is one of the Must-Go places in London. Please do not forget to make a donation.
Great modern art museum in London.Free entrance. There is a lot of temporary exhibitions.Worth to visit often for changes.Used to have a great bar up with views of the City of London. There is a low of floors, dont hesitate to visit them all, but have a sit often or your feet will be in pain.
I love the art and concept behind those arts. Very interesting place for me some of the electronics arts remind me the project we did it during uni. Totally love it .Some of the paintings are bit tricky to understand which I have to figure it out on my next visit 😉
What a wonderful experience. We were here when the surrealist expedition was on. It was really stunning to see painting Ive only seen in books, in real life. Its a big open museum. It has a free entry but some exhibits require paid tickets. Membership is available if you are a regular. Loved this place and the kids got sketch books to keep them engaged. Huge gift shops, well worth a visit
Still one of my favourite galleries in the world. August 2022 sees a brilliant surrealists exhibition thats well worth a viewing, The permanent collection had been rotated since I last visited a few years ago with plenty to see, even if I never understand some of the more obtuse canvases. Good to see some fun activities for kids and participative art too.
Great art gallery with some really interesting exhibitions. I took my friend to see a paid exhibition for her birthday and despite having the tickets on my phone, the woman at the entrance of the gallery refused us entry even though it quite clearly stated the tickets were for that gallery and I could prove my purchase by showing her my bank statements. In the end, we had to go to the ticket office to get our tickets printed before getting in, which was a complete waste of time and served no purpose. All other staff members at the Tate Modern were brilliant. She was the only exception.
Went to the Tate late for the first time and would massively recommend this experience to anyone who has been Tate or never been. Its an entirely new experience with live music , drinks and lots of good social people. Amazing atmosphere when its later than normal and you still get to experience all the great things about the Tate but enhanced
Excellent curation, great & free exhibitions, the restaurant/cafe offer good selections of food and beverages. Plenty of space to sit and rest if you’re tired from visiting the gallery. It’s really hard to fault Tate Modern — definitely one of my favorite museums in the world now!
The Tate Modern was such a cool museum. The mix of sculpture and paintings made it really interesting to see. I was a bit confused by the layout between the two buildings, but there is just so much in the museum you could spend days here. The gift shops were also nice and they had some cheap poster options!
Tate Modern is indubitably a must see for every visitor of London. You can come back many times – the access is free of charge, although donations are welcome. This will allow you to find your own pace and itinerary through the labyrinth of exhibitions some of which will make you question your understanding of what art is. The place itself is an architectural masterpiece.
One of my favourite places to go in London. Amazing and interesting modern art in display for free 🎨👌🏼 the area around it its always busy with people. lots of restaurants pubs , coffee shops and market, and the whole embankment to explore 📸
Honestly I really don’t understand the concept of modern art. Are we attributing more worth to the average piece of junk because the artist’s word deeming it to be so-called art? Anyways the exhibits were still fun to look at and cool to see some of the descriptions of the pieces.I really enjoyed the historical aspect of the A Year in Art: Australia 1992 exhibit, since it explained the historical background behind the lasting impacts of colonialism on the Aboriginal people and has a lot of cool accounts of their stories. Wish I got the chance to go see the mirror room, but that was an added expense and we arrived only around one hour before closing time. This museum should be doable in two hours.
Along South Bank, Tate Modern is a well worth stop as it has a number of free exhibits to view and appreciate if you have some time to kill. Really grand and breathtaking building. Even as people who are not very informed or educated on art, we still enjoyed putting a couple of hours aside to check it out!
First of all, the entry is free for almost 75% of the exhibit halls. Its housed in a re purposed power plant so you will see building names like Turbine Hall. Once inside look for the large crane that runs across the building. The exhibits are well maintained.Pro tip: Dont forget to peek at the Waterloo Bridge when you are on a higher floor.
Nearly all areas are free to visit - only some exhibitions you have to pay for. This lures lots of people into the gallery - from whom most I guess have no idea of modern art - like me too. Strange objects but sometimes really funny what calls itself art. When you have enough time then its worth a visit also when you a not an art fan.
Tate Modern is the place you must go if you are into modern art. Spread on 2 buildings and 4 different levels each, Tate Modern hosts both permanent exhibitions and some amazing temporary ones.Fun fact: Tate Museums got their name after Henry Tate, an industrialist who had made his fortune as a sugar refiner, and offered his collection of British nineteenth-century art to the nation and provided funding for the first Tate Gallery.
I could spend days in this museum. I loved every little room and corridor. I would need some additional guidance on how to move and where to begin and go next but I really enjoyed my visit. If you are a modern art lover please don’t skip it…
This was a visit that I spread out over two Sunday’s due to the size of the gallery and the amount of exhibits. It is a great place with lots of different contemporary art from around the world and some great artists. It is worth spending a bit more for some of the private collections. It gets very busy and I advise you to book on the website to get a time and QR code for entry, otherwise you could be waiting outside for some time. They have to filter the volume of people that visit the museum. All in all, it is a very good gallery with some great pieces of art. Well worth a visit.
My favourite London art gallery of modern and contemporary art from around the world, and it is free entrance (donations welcomedwith the exception of rotating special exhibitions. The gallery is in a converted power-station and hence really spacious and designed to really show off the impressive modern art collections. It is rarely too crowded that you can’t appreciate the art (so often abroad I find the galleries too busy). Highly recommend a couple of hours and come back another day and see some more.Always a lot of surrealist art on display (Dali, Magritte). Famous works by Mondrian, Pollock, Picasso, Matisse, Warhol. My favourites are Richter (whole section of his paintings see photos).Nearly always a good quality photography exhibition in the main free galleries to enjoy.Access is good for disabilities with lifts and plenty of wide-spaces. Plenty of sofas to sit down in the downstairs main entrance. Nice gift shop (see photos). Toilets plentiful. There is also a café but not eaten in there for a few years but always seems popular.
There are many reasons to visit Tate Modern, one of them is to indulge in art that often provokes more questions than it answers. The collection walks you through the modern history and place of art in human society. There is always so much going on .. so a visit is always recommended. It also helps that the river Thames and the Millennium bridge is just outside, so plenty to take in - either inside Tate or outside.
Its a must to experience at least once! I am a member and I am addicted to Tate Modern.Love its architectural side and the great view from the Member bar at 5 floor ideal for afternoon tea or an aperitif.Tate has always the most interesting contemporary art exhibitions and installations you just never get bored of to be a member or just come and visit when you are in London
Well if art is not your thing. No worries. Just take a look with an open mind. Baffling, interesting. The turbine hall is huge and impressive. Lots of helpers to explain. Go on, take a look.
A nice day out at the Tate. We booked the tickets online and the friendly staff scanned the codes. It was a quick process and FREE! I love the variety collection of art pieces and all were beautifully laid out and presented. We went to the shops and some items were on promotion - up to 50% off! We didnt get the chance to visit every floor, so thats a great excuse to come back again!
It’s a big and nice museum and for me was very new as a modern museum! It take around 4 hours ic you want to see whole galleries and museum and most of them are free of charge , there is a nice shop there which is selling books, posters, mugs, shirts, bag etc,In most of the floor of museum restrooms are available and you can put your extras at lockers of ground floor free of charge( don’t forget to take a one pound coin to use it as a deposit of locker)
Most of the exhibits werent anything impressive at all (see photos). The odd few were cool but the majority were not - maybe modern art just isnt for me.Very busy on a Saturday, incredibly difficult to get tickets to the special exhibition even if youre a member - the queue is like 30,000 people online and wait for hours. The member only bars were pretty much full too.
Very accommodating staff. Very kindly offered me a mobility scooter when they saw me on crutches. Very nice restaurant manager and team. And a fantastic collection that kept me engaged for the whole day. Look forward to going back soon.
Large light and spacious lobby area, we scanned a qr code near the entrance to get our digital entry tickets on the day. Exhibitions were okay, not quite my taste but a good place to visit for free. There is a staffed cloakroom to leave any belongings in for a suggested donation of £5
The Tate modern is a must for a lot of tourists. Given that modern art doesnt appeal to everyone I will add only what is relevant to the experience... The building itself is a wonder in terms of space and how well it has been used. Unlike other museums in London you dont get the sense of getting lost in a maze...here is a logic in the placement of the rooms and the collections. My only concern was the lighting in some of the exhibition rooms.
Free entry to most galleries. Convenient location near millennium bridge and st Pauls and borough market close. We had a nice wander around. There are floating jellyfish which are impressive. Galleries have good spacing and decent descriptions beside art. Worth a visit if in the area.
Amazing gallery with a massive entrance hall. There’s usually a free exhibit on in the hall, booking essential at the moment because of covid. You can visit quite a few other galleries on upper levels that are also free. Some you have to pay, or be a member.A great place to while away a couple of hours.
Art should be free and accessible and the Tate hits the nail on the head. A suggested £5 donation is more than reasonable for everything you can go and absorb there. Free cloakroom too, and plenty of loos. Could happily spend a whole day in this place. A must visit for anyone with time in London.
Well tate modern has given me hope.Yes I can be a artist. Becuase my work shop floor looks like so many of the works of art hanging here.I must admit though. The building is beautiful! The food is nice and the staff are friendly.Dont get me wrong there are some amazing things here but I guess my definition of art is different from some other peoples.
It is a really stunning place, full of modern artistic exhibitions, it reminded me my visit to the Whitney Museum in New York.I would visit it for multiple times. It is also family friendly, lots of fun activities for kids to do, and the kids had much fun too. The view from the canteen is beautiful as well.
This was my first time attending an art gallery. Originally going here for a uni assignment, I ended up forgetting all about it and was instead immersed in the art that surrounded meThere were a lot of displays that showcased artistic expression and social and cultural perceptions; having read some of the notes behind the pieces, I found it to be quite insightful and enticingI would love to go to another exhibition in the near future
