Dark, cozy & traditional bar with regular live fado singers, plus rustic Portuguese bar dishes.
Basic place with basic and overpriced food and drinks.Music was just too short.I wouldnt recommend the place
You need to reserve a spot ahead of time or expect to wait in line to get into this Fado club, but its worth the wait. The talent is great. Theres no cover charge but you are expected to pay 10€ per person (two glasses of wine did it for each of us). Youll also be seated with strangers but that was half the fun. We met a young German couple and a Bairro Alto resident who was there almost every night. Lots of fun.
Great place to get to know Fado. It is better to go after 10 when it gets less busy. Simply grab a drink, sit, and enjoy the music. Prices are reasonable compared to other venues that force a menu and a minimum charge.
Amateur fado sang by locals.Don’t expect professional singers.Amazing Portuguese environment. Expensive prices. Food isn’t great.
Very nice Fado and atmosphere. But worse rude service you’ll ever experience in Lisbon !!! Food is quite bad
Fado and tapas. Very small and intimate. The fado was of uneven quality with 3 different singers. Tapas were nice a good meat and cheese plate and the blood sausage was tasty.
We had to wait almost 2 hours to enter the restaurant, once they would finally let us in, they obliged us to again wait indoors at the bar!!! So they didnt give us any table, such a frustrating experience, very very disappointed! The fado music is not so frequent neiher. The personal at the entrance door is very rude! Dont get influenced by the high points given, we will be disappointed and just waste your time!
Mixed experience to listen to FADO. We got there at just before 8:00 p.m. with the doors opening at 7:00 p.m. We ended up waiting for 45 minutes to get in to stand then for another 30 minutes or so to finally sit down. The music began around 8:30 p.m. The owner or manager, an older man, was a little grumpy and short with people. He only spoke to Portuguese so it became a little challenging to understand. The two ladies who were working hard in the kitchen and bar work. Interactive and it made it a little bit challenging to order food and drinks. However, the food was pretty good and inexpensive along with the drinks. The music was about as expected with only three different singers and four sets of 3 songs from 10 to 15 minutes each. The owner opens up the door after each set for people to leave but you cannot come in from the line unless someone leaves. If you have no other dinner theater fado options, this works as the music is still powerful and fun to listen to.
Best Place to listen Fado Vadio.Open until 2 am very good. awesome
Great place for Fado. You have to make a reservation at least day before.
The staff is very rude, I thought it would not be a problem (I was expecting this from the other reviewsbut it was. They make you feel like they dont want you there especially if youre a tourist. The music was nice and food not so great.
Very popular with tourists after the venue of british chef Anthony Bourdain and french TV program Echappées Belles. But for a reason: this is IMO one of the best places to have drinkable wines, edible tapas, enjoyable Fado music and real portuguese atmosphere at affordable prices in central Lisbon.
I dont understand why all this fuss about this place? I was suggested going there in order to listen to some fado music. I am a musician as well, but it felt too touristic for me. The concept was to squeeze as many people as possible inside, turning off the lights to create some spiritual atmosphere, but it felt like the musicians or the singer werent appreciated in the way that they should. It felt like people only went inside, ate and left. For me, musicians and music should be respected and not sacrificed in the name of tourism and money. The one star is dedicated to the musicians and the singers of that place. Only that.
Oh my god! What an amazing experience! It is so authentic! Unique place, not fancy but original and the fado. Oh the fado... It just wants to make you cry. So much passion and sentiment, even though I understood nothing. Dont miss this amazing, traditional experience!
Fantastic!Dont expect anything and just follow instructions from the boss guy at the door (he also sings). You will sit when and where and with whom he tells you and it will be great. Also, respect the musicians and not talk while they sing.
Tasca do Chicago was recommended by a waiter from a nearby restaurant. Come to enjoy Fado without the dinner and a show experience. The establishment is very small yet intimate to experience Fado and all that it represents with master and upcoming fadistas. Grab something to drink and eat and enjoy the experience. Lines do form to get in yet if youre patient, youll get in eventually. As mentioned earlier the establishment is very small so make reservations if you have a large group.
The most authentic experience we had in Lisbon. We had flamed sausage and house red wine, both were great. Two other people were seated next to us, which othervise would feel strange, however here really made the whole experience even better. Fado was lovely. There were three different people singing. The atmosphere was intimate and amazing. Be sure to make a reservation at 7 pm and come back at 8 pm. Music started at around 8:40 pm. As for the stuff and negative stuff reviews seen here, there are not far from truth. Waitress indeed showed no interest in serving us properly, but we did not let this affect our evening at all. After all, we were there for fado and it was indeed great.
Amazing fado music in a bustling small restaurant. Music starts around 8:30 (1.5 hours after opening.Reservations strongly suggested but they’ll let you eat at the bar. Anthony Bourdain ate here.
Im an Australian living in Paris, was on a business trip with a colleauge and we discovered this most amazing place by pure chance. We sat down, they closed the doors and started incredible Fado singers and musicians. Highly recommended met other australians living in Madrid who thought the same. A must do
I went today this place, even when there were tourists (my self one of themyou can feel the local vibe. I’m not well knowing about Fado but I’m know about music and it was fantastic.
If youre easily offended by an obviously very busy staff in a very popular establishment, then dont come here. Here, you have to go with the flow if you want to enjoy amazing music with some typically Portuguese snacks. Yes, it gets super crowded, but in some way, its really great because everyone is really into the music and you feel in synch with one another. Its a mixed crowed of international tourists and locals. We had no reservation, but were seated at a table we shared with two other people with a great view of the musicians and the singer. Get there early to get a spot or better yet, make a reservation. Music and performance is fantastic, fish cakes are delish and the house wine is drinkable! 👍
One of the craziest/worst dining experiences of my life. I read other reviews just to see if I’m crazy but the other bad reviews sound eerily similar to ours. Super nice door man (seems like the ownerbut the server girl literally acted like she was bothered we were in the restaurant. We got menus but no one came to take our order. We asked and one server just said “ok” but no one came. We were there for at least 25 minutes and I kept thinking “I want to like this place but why are the girls working here in such a bad mood?” After seeing them look at my wife and and I and never come take an order (not even drinkswe got up and left. It was our last night of vacation and by far worst treatment / service we experienced in Portugal. Especially considering how amazing and hospitable the rest of Portuguese are.
If you like the live events for Fado music then this is the place for you.m! The food is not the best reason to visit. Neither the staff.
Enter at 19 to book your part of the table, go for a walk later, return at 20. The music starts around 20:30. The menu is only tapas and drinks. Heres the information pill, next will be impressions. This place is going to be extremely crowded, with all seats taken, and for a reason. For a tourist, this is as much of an unique experience as it gets. The owner of the place is going to be closing the door during the Fado performance, and only letting people in during the break. All that so you can concentrate on whats happening inside, and its magic. Just let it take you, go with the flow. Really good musicians, cozy vibe, an Experience starting with a big E.
An entire experience! Super recommend for anyone traveling to Portugal and wanting an authentic experience. You have to arrive at 7 on the dot (there may be a small line!and leave your name. Then you return at 800 to start ordering and then 8:30/8:45 for the Fado! I recommend arriving before 8:00 though so you get a seat in the front of the restaurant. But the singers turn around so you get a view in the back too!The FADO is in Portuguese both sung and spoken!Food is typical- flame grilled chorizo, cod/shrimp crockettes, meats, cheeses, wine by the bottle/half bottle/cup.Minimum 10€ a person but it’s easy to reach.Super mom and pop. Hard benches and you’re likely to be seated with other travelers. The music is super authentic and you can really enjoy it so close. They even shut the door and windows to make sure just the audience in the restaurant experiences the show.A definite must!
Wouldn’t give us a table and told us to stand around to eat which we were fine with, but she essentially wanted us to leave. Extremely rude, inattentive, indifferent waitress (has a bunand most likely racist too. She took everyone’s order in the restaurant but ours then started prepping everyone’s order. Told the hostess it was rude for her to ignore us and keep us waiting she merely smiled sarcastically. Utterly despicable.
Loved the Fado music, it felt really authentic! Youre crammed into a small bar which some reviews said was off-putting but I found it atmospheric and got you talking with strangers you normally wouldnt do! The sangria was tasty too! Would definitely recommend
Wonderful intimate place to enjoy fado or discover it if you have never heard it before. The music starts around 8:30 but you need to go in person to book at 7:00 pm or you wont be able to get in!! I enjoyed a sangria jar and some tapas (chorizo and cheese). The best thing is undoubtedly the lovely experience of the performance. There is a minimum spend of 10 euros per person, but you dont need to pay extra for the music. Loved it. Highly recommend!
They had 3 available tables by the musicians which were unoccupied for the 1 hour we were there but they made us sit on some stairs. We ended up sitting on these stairs for the whole time we were there, staring at these empty chairs… it also took over 20 mins for them to deliver my drink, even though it was pretty empty. Not great
Amazing place to experience the Portuguese wine and some amazing fado music. You need to wait to get a seat and you will sit with a stranger but it is worth the visit. Order a jar of wine or sangria and enjoy some traditional music.
A few people recommended me this restaurant as the best place to listen to some live Fado. My experience was very disappointing. The place its tiny. If you get a table close to the kitchen it smells like oil. We ordered some tapas and they were kind of overpriced and not so tasty. The sangría tasted like if they had just mixed some sugary drink with red wine and threw a couple of orange and lime slices there. We though that it didnt matter that much because we had gone for the Fado, not for the food or drinks, but sadly the show wasnt anything really special.Maybe this is the place to come if youre a Fado expert, maybe they have the best artists in Lisbon, but to my tourist untrained ear it sounded like any other singer. I actually enjoyed it better in another restaurant later on the same week, maybe because the food, drinks and place were better. So I wouldnt go here, not really worth all the extra disappointments.
Positives first. The fado music was amazing and the atmosphere was incredibly authentic and real - I really got the feeling of being in a locals place, evocative and genuine. You are sat close to the performers, so the experience is intimate and connected, upfront and personal.However.The purpose of a review is to let others aware of issues. And yes, there are a few issues. A potential customer should bear them carefully in mind because I don’t feel like this venue is for everyone. The waitress was extremely rude, sullen and unfriendly to the point of me wondering if I had inadvertently done something to offend her. Very poor customer service. The food was mediocre - do not expect anything impressive. The draft beer was also not fresh, it felt like the pipes needed a good clean. You should also be aware that once the music starts, you need to remain quiet - not a problem as far as I am concerned as the fado was genuinely moving and beautiful to listen to. Reservations are an absolute must. I went on a Tuesday and it was packed, completely full and many hopefuls were turned away disappointed at the door. You have to be prepared and happy about sitting very close, sardine-like with fellow patrons. Expect to share tables and to be bumped and hustled. All in all, despite the negatives, I loved the experience. I am a live music lover, and the authenticity and passion blew me away.So ultimately I didn’t mind about the frosty somewhat arrogant attitude of some of the staff, as the music transcended that. However don’t come here expecting great food and drink. That’s not the purpose of the place.
I tried to come here the night before and was told I needed reservations.A bit annoyed cause the Facebook page didn’t say anything about it. So made reservations for the next night. I get there and I am sat down in a very cramped space. So far so bad I’m thinking. I order a pitcher of sangria and it’s delicious. I order tapas. All delicious. Then the lights come down. Front door is closed. And the Fado begins. At this point I am beyond sold. Also wasn’t surprised to see a picture of Anthony Bourdain with the owner on the wall. This is definitely a place he would have come too. So make reservations.Bring cash cause they don’t take card. And bring an open mind. It will pay off.
Great if you want to listen to some Fado music with a glass of wine. Drinks are a little bit more expensive compared to other restaurants but you pay here for the Fado experience. Would definitely recommend this place.
Lovely atmosphere and Fado music. They dont have a real kitchen, so dont expect a really good food. The tapas was so average and nothing really tasty.
Such a wonderful música experience! Once the doors are closed and the lights turn off, the magic begins. I’m a fan of the music from the first time I attended, and Fado at Tasca do Chico is performed marvelously.
Cozy and cute place with Fado songs. It’s better to reserve it in advance as line for opening is pretty big and many tourists interested to come there. Food is regular but this place is definitely not about food but about Portugal culture
When in Portugal you need to go out for a Fado experience. We loved it! They have nice appetizers and wine.
Feel the Fado😘You need reservation. It opens at 7pm but already full of people when we arrived. Luckily, one people canceled, we could get in. But you dont need to eat heavy dinner. If you like Sangria with tapas, its good place to go and enjoy Fado. It is small place but good concentration.
Good dinner with fado show. We ordered cataplana de mariscos for 2 persons and it was really tasty (even though we tried it for the 1st time so we cannot judge), attention nice..very busy place. If you come for dinner you can watch fado show that start each 13 min or so.All i all nice experience and good food
Authentic place with helpfull staff. I did not eat there, so can’t comment on the food but had a generous glass of good wine and listened to four different singers performing fado. I don’t know why people are complaining of the minimum consumption requirement if they are to take a table. The restaurant needs to pay the artist and the staff. I stood at the bar because I was not hungry and had no issue with it.
Último! You simply have to check this place out. I was in Lisbon 5 days and sent every night. So worth it to Fado played by people who care. Maybe a little touristy but get over it. Fado for evah!
Yes. Every night. You can queue outside if you dont have a reservation. The fado artists take a 10 min break every 4 to 5 songs and some people come out at that time so they let more people in. A lot of people come out around 10pm or so. The first night, although there was a large queue outside, we managed to get in after 2 breaks but only got standing room at the bar. We then booked for the next day at 8pm. It really worth it.
We walked in and within 5 mins the Fado started, three singers one man and two women nice voices good guitar players two of them. I did not expect much for the food but it was surprisingly very good we had ribs and grouper both were great!Sorry ate my fish before we could take a pic!
If you’re looking fado, look no further. This place was recommended to me by an actual fado singer and it’s been a fantastic experience every time. Very simple without bells and whistles; the staff isn’t “rude” as some reviews might suggest, as long as you engage with them and don’t expect them to just serve you on hand and foot. The artists they attract are talented and give you the nostalgic experience of fado in an intimate space. Even if there’s a line outside, it’s worth the wait and moves quickly.
The service is not great at all, they all seem rude and bothered to serve you... we asked for four portions of something, the waiter came with two and left with no explanations. When we asked if this represents 4 portions or 2, she simply said they ran out of it... don’t eat here, just grab drinks and enjoy fado. It’s really amazing music!
Very authentic fado bar, probably the most one in Portugal. Live Fado Music on a very high level. Simple wodden interior but full of fotos of famous people. There is always a queue outside. In order to avoid sign up for the Fado Meetup and have a reserved table.
Great fado in a very small place and very crowded. Too hot inside. Enough for one drink and leave because if you want to have dinner there you need to make a reservation beforehand. Friendly staff girls. Still enjoyed it.
Great place to hear local Fado singers, enjoy a drink and meet new friends. Small place and it gets crowded fast. Arrive by seven thirty for a table and plan to share it. Good experience even if the tapas are not. I recommend the traditional soup and sangria.
We found the staff unfriendly. We were 4 and wanted to share 3 dishes because we werent too hungry, but the waitress insisted that we order a dish per person. Thats fine, we understood, they had to pay the musicians. But the food was really average and in the end we werent able to finish it.We liked the music. The best part of the evening was when an old man from the neighbourhood entered the bar and started singing fado, and he was actually an amazing singer.
