Fabulous getaway at TarndieThe cottage was even more gorgeous than the pictures. And lovely bouquets of flowers in every room were a gorgeous touch. There are beautiful country views from every room and the cottage is completely private.Beautifully presented with comfy beds and a gorgeous bathroom with a ripper shower.Tom was a fabulous host and gave us all the local hot spots to visit during our stay. Our family appreciated him giving us a farm experience letting the kids help move some of the sheep. We all loved it.Fabulous stay and can’t wait to visit again.
MoreSuch an idyllic, historical setting. The service was lovely. Tom was a wonderful host with a wealth of knowledge of Tarndie and the surrounding areas. And added bonus, a wool shop on the farm! A yarn lover’s dream!
MoreSpecial place, people and fibre
Unbeatable setting with a real farm stay vibe. Our only issue was that we drove in at night and it wasnt super wasnt easy to find. More like a 4.5 in light of this. Overall, fantastic stay!
MoreThe Stables at Tarndie is an absolutely beautiful place to stay. Warm and inviting, I felt at home straight away. There is a charming and relaxed country vibe, with everything on hand for a luxe and comfortable stay. A walk around the dam was a delightful opportunity to spot cheeky lambs, and even a fat possum scouting for a feed. My first visit, but definitely not my last!
MoreWe loved our stay at the Historic Tarndwarncoort. The Stables offered a comfortable and relaxing respite from the big smoke. The charming town of Birregurra is only five minutes away and the Surf Coast and all The Otways have to offer are within an hours drive. To top it all off Tom is a knowlegeable and engaging host and his love for the Farm and the surrounds is evident. We certainly look forward to a return visit
MoreA fabulous Polwarth sheep farm, the fabulous Dennis family and a shop full of wool products and yarn to keep everyone crafting. Stayed a month in the gorgeous Farmers Cottage and loved it so much, stayed another! It is now my home away from home. As the Australian music icon Molly Meldrum used to say, ‘Do yourself a favour…’ !
MoreWe spent 2 nights in The Stables accommodation, it is beautifully presented, so quaint & so relaxing. We were warmly welcomed by Tom & Dave when we arrived. We were able to stroll around the farm, we met the sheep, Tom made us some excellent coffee & of course purchased some beautiful yarn! Thanks for sharing your special piece of Australian sheep history with us. We would highly recommend a stay at Tarndie!
MoreWe enjoyed this home. Beautiful sunlight into the shower. Peaceful surrounds with great heating throughout. The highlight = woodburner.
MoreSuch a lovely peaceful stay - I found myself very relaxed at the end of it all. Thanks for a great time!
MoreStayed here for the weekend. We had such an amazing time. The farm is beautiful! The owners are so welcoming and kind. They are extremely passionate about their wool and sheep and it was amazing to spend time there. I cannot wait to go back.
MoreThat was the second stay at Tarndie for us... kind of speaks for its self!
Accommodation is spacious and very comfortable. Delightful visit over coffee with Tom and his father, and out in the fields with Daisy (sheepand her daughter. Interesting to learn the journey of fleece to skein of yarn. I loved the yarn shop and cant wait to knit up a shawl and some hats. I hope to come back again!
MoreWe came for the beautiful wool, but so enjoyed the cosy accommodations, we self catered, relaxed with the autumn views and peaceful sheep. An easy drive from Melbourne.
MoreWe really enjoyed our stay at Tarndie - the place (Stableswas stunning and the host was very welcoming too.The interior has a lot of character and the layout of the place is very well thought through. Would definitely recommend it to anyone!
MoreTom is a great ambassador for the generations of the Dennis family that have continuously worked this property since the 1840s. We thoroughly enjoyed his enthusiasm for the special wool they produce [the Polwarth] and wish him well with his future plans. The Stables were great - plenty of room. The views are awesome and the surrounding places to visit, Birregurra and Forrest to name to, are worth the trip. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE TIME OUT OF YOUR BUSY LIVES TO CHILL OUT AT TARNDIE!!!
MoreCosy stay at a rustic and charming historic farmhouse that’s over 100years old.Vast land for walkabouts. Intricate handicrafts and workshop featuring the softest wool woven from the farm’s sheeps. Amazing 2-storey lodge that’s generously furnished by the owner with fresh flowers and organic toiletries. We also fulfilled our dream of cooking and lunching alfresco by a farmhouse, in the cool Aussie autumn no less 🥰Given this cost similar to a hotel room in downtown Melbourne, I highly reco this place to folks who wants to get away from the city for a holiday. There’s supermarket, winery, raspberry farms treetop walks/courses, and even one of Aussie’s best restaurant Brea around this farmstay. Definitely worth a stay 😊
MoreTarndie is a little piece of heaven on earth. I have been wanting to stay for a long time and finally the opportunity arose. The cottage is just amazing and the attention to detail and atmosphere is superb. The fresh flowers in nearly every room are just divine as are the crochet blankets.Thank you for a wonderful stay - I will be back as soon as possible!
MoreOh my gosh where to start, we stayed in the Farmers Cottage, packed full of character. There were amazing flower arrangements in each of the rooms - I took photos and shared them with friends on FB. I was made very welcome watching yarn dyeing on Saturday morning before I headed into the wool shop to have a good look, and some yarn came home with me. Thanks Tom for a wonderful, relaxed experience, we will be back!!
MoreTom was an absolutely lovely host. Loved the old wool shop. Was a great time.
This was my second stay at Tarndie. When you stay at Tarndwarncoort you enter a time warp. A few days relaxing feels like a week.Tom and all the crew make you feel so welcome. The farmer’s cottage is rustic but comfortable, welcoming and clean.Cannot wait for my next stay.
MoreA lovely spot with comfortable accommodation to relax and enjoy the surrounds.
We stayed in the Stables Studio which is a delightful space for two people. This is definitely a place we are heading back to.
MoreBeautiful spot to relax and unwind, gutted that we only had one night here.
We loved our stay at Tarndie, farm cottage! Set on beautiful country the cottage is filled with charm, well equipped and private. Tom was a wonderful host who added so much to our stay, amazing to find out about the history of the farm and the area. Really inspiring to visit the wool shop and see the wool produced from sheep on the farm. It is the best quality wool, feels good in hand and knits up a lovely soft fabric. We also visited Lake Corrangamite nearby and had a great lunch at Colac. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again!
MoreI booked both The Cottage and The Stables for a special occasion. Both were beautifully presented, with updates amenities and lots of character. With friendly sheep nearby, we were able to complete the experience with a trip to the wool shop a mere 1 minute walk from our accommodation and a coffee in the outdoor area. There are plenty of walks to explore the property and the views are beautiful. Will definitely be staying again next time we are in the area. Thank you to both Tom and his family for such a wonderful stay.
MoreMy wife and I stayed at Tarndie for a week, being our second stay in the Stables. The cottage is spacious, comfortable and well equipped in lovely surroundings, quiet and totally private - we were made welcome by our genial host Tom. It is well placed to explore the surrounding district. We are experienced travellers and rate Tarndie as one of our favourite places.
MoreGenuine hospitality in a setting recalling the halcyon days of Australian farming, in tasteful and modern accommodation. The home-made fruit cake and coffee were great too!
MoreWe stayed two nights at Tarndie in The Stables which were just gorgeous. Staying at Tarndie is one of the most beautiful country experiences Ive had. Tom is wonderful at making you feel welcome and accommodating any needs. Couldnt recommend enough.
MoreThe Stables are a delightful place to stay. It is very peaceful and restful. Not sure if the sheep farm is still fully operational as we saw very little sign of sheep movement. The straw chairs are in need of an upgrade as two of the three chairs had holes in the sitting base.
MoreThe stables are delightful, a beautiful fully-equipped space, and I was impressed with the constancy of the internal temperature. Perfect spot for a peaceful, private break when you have no agenda. And theres the wool shop for the new knitter or spinner or for topping up your stash!
Morewe had a lovely night in the cottage at Tarndie. Although the farm is well and truly out in the idyllic country, the town of Colac is nearby for dinner, or bring ingredients to cook your own on the well fitted out kitchen. The next morning we spent too much money in the wool store and had a lovely cuppa with the charming host, Tom, and his parents. My daughter thinks we need to go back for another dose of sheep. .^_^.
MoreTom and the Dennis Family are some of the loveliest people Ive ever met. My many stays and shopping experiences at Tarndie have been so lovely, healing and great fun. Prior to Covid I was flying in from Sydney 3-4 times a year to visit with friends. I cant want to get back to my favourite farm.
MoreGreat place, very nice people, wonderful wool, the best coffee.
I just had my 3rd trip to Tarndie and Ive loved every trip. This time I stayed in the farmers cottage with a friend and it was so beautiful. The rooms had fresh flowers and were decorated with lovely touches like vintage quilts (likely hand made). We had walks on the property and ran into some boisterous sheep. The family are so lovely and we had a visit to the wool shop. I think this will become a regular stay
MoreThe most divine wool I have ever used.
When visiting Tarndie, you’re welcomed warmly to this beautiful old homestead by the Dennis family. Many repeat visits are necessary to purchase fabulous Polwarth yarns. Nice to know the provenance of our wool. Oh, and Tom makes an excellent coffee! Experience the Otways.
MoreTarndie yarn is magnificent. Knits, feels, washes & wears beautifully! Australian goodness
MoreSuch a beautiful & authentic Australian homestead. You can feel the love of the family everywhere and sense their humble, hard-working nature. So naturally raw yet so much potential. A real Australian farming experience and must visit wool shop for knitters & wool lovers.
MoreSuch a great atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed the serenity. Beautiful location
Stayed at Tarndie a few times now. A family run farm with lovely clean homestyle accommodation. Really enjoyed the surroundings and peaceful ambience. Owners are lovely to chat with.
MoreWe stayed in the Stables Studio - what an amazing little spot. It was warm, cosy and had everything we could have wanted. Beautiful setting on the farm, and we had coffee and a great chat with Tom the owner, who gave us a rundown of the history of the place and the local area. They also helped us tee up transport to/from Brae and were super helpful. Definitely recommend this as a great spot if youre staying down this way.
MoreSuch a cute place. Short board walk to the dam.Chance to interact with sheep.
A great little converted stable chalet with nice features. A very relaxing farm stay with optional crafting and dyeing classes on offer.
MoreHighly priced wool the surrounds were good but very hard to find
Well worth a visit. Important part of Australias history and still owned and run by the original family.
MoreA special place to drool over wool for the crafty crowd. Warm welcoming hospitality.
MoreHad a work break up in the old cider shed was great. Beautiful buildings and great atmosphere. Good hosts.
MoreFantastic 2 bedroom cottage near Colac on a historic working farm. All the modern conveniences and lovely rustic flair. Well Worth the stay.
MoreThe Workers Cottage was an absolute delight. Set in the middle of a working farmstead with its period features, furniture and detailing done to a T. We couldnt ask or expect anything more. The host Tom was extremely welcoming, warm and accommodating. 4.5 Stars would visit again.
