Braunton Road, Barnstaple EX31 4AU, Barnstaple
Tarka Holiday Park - in Barnstaple, United Kingdom
Quiet clean site well looked after. My dog liked the secure field where she played with her 2 friends
Brilliant place to stay if you want to explore North Devon. Caravans spotless thanks to Lucy. Staff really helpful. Very quiet, no pool, no bar, no shop, but all that within easy reach.
We had a platinum lodge for a long weekend break really good accommodation 2 beds 2 walk in wardrobes 2 bathrooms one of which was en suite well equipped and clean, unable to purchase any WIFI not the end of the world though, info about local public transport would have been useful didnt know about the bus stop outside the gates until the last day
Nice quiet park, close to all the local places like Saunton sand, Croyde, Woolacombe and Westward Ho. No amenities on site but plenty of choice in nearby Braunton. Not allowed to leave pets unattended in lodge/caravan..
After booking a short notice weekend get away we booked Tarka. On arrival we were met with a lovely friendly greeting. The caravan we had was way nicer than we imagined, it was clean and spacious. The lack of entertainment and facilities on site wasnt an issue as we opted for a quiet site and thats exactly what it was. Our dog settled in nicely and enjoyed a morning and evening walk down to the dog exercise area which was clean and secure. We will definitely be returning to Tarka .
Highly recommended as the site is very quiet and really well maintained. Great as a base for our holiday. Small area for the kids to play and an area to walk your dogs.
We have been two years in a row. Always clean, always quiet. Kids welcome but its not a holiday park in the sense of activities for kids, but with a beach 5 mins away, who cares!Beds have been comfortable, caravan is spacious but lodges are a dream! Staff are helpful and friendly.Phone signal can be pants but they have WiFi at an extra cost.
Quiet place for a stay near to Barnstaple. Could do with a few facilities to improve the guest experience.
Good site, only one thing, and its not to do with the park. Getting to the Tarka trail, you have to take your car . Defeating the point of walking to the pub halfway along . No public footpath.
Just back from a week in Devon (25 - 29 Julystaying at Tarka Holiday Park and can only give a great review. Lovely clean site, friendly people, a great welcome and follow up check to see we were ok the morning after our arrival. The caravan was spotless and our tiny Chihuahua settled in well - she is very fussy!. Although no clubhouse, entertainment etc on site it is not far from pretty villages, sandy beaches and amenities and lovely and peaceful which is exactly what we wanted. Will definitely return.
Nice little get away, lots to do around the area ,nice clean caravan and site
Quiet & well maintained site & caravans. Great for days exploring.
Absolutely beautiful lodge never stayed in such a luxury home before. No amenities on the site but we new this, when we booked just a reception. Very quiet.
Friendly staff and great area especially with dogs. Lots of things in Devon to see.
Amazing little holiday park, very quite, clean and fantastic if you have dogs
Nice clean caravan and the park is kept clean. Not great for young children if not venturing out to site see, (knew this when booking though)the play area consists of 1 goal post amd 1 basketball net/hoop right next to the dog walk area which in all fairness was clean. The only reason for not giving the park the full 5 stars is because they have a strict no parking on the grass policy, our 6 berth caravan had only 1 space, so the extra car had to park either by the play area or down at reception, 1 late afternoon/evening we arrived back my parents parked their car on the drive, I tried by the play area but it had 3 vans parked in their(I think staff vehiclesand when I went down to reception all spaces taken, luckily I was able to squeeze my car sideways onto the drive infrastructure of my parents car so that non of us parked on the grass and got penalised for it.
Clean , generally quietly caravan park. Obviously aimed at the adult/ child free party.Unfortunately you can hear the noise from the road( depending on your position in the park, sometimes quite loud), but on the whole a good experience. The van was clean and tidy with beds made up and ready for use. Very good value for money short stay destination.Lots to see nearby.
Tarka park was clean and situated well for days out. You cant easily walk out from the park as there is a very busy dual carriageway right outside the entrance. Our caravan was lively, but the bed was the most uncomfortable we have ever slept in. I sent a message about ig while there but was never contacted.
ABSOLUTELY AWFUL COMPANY! visited the park before and was returning to visit family in north Devon, Due to falling seriously ill with covid I had the money aside in cash as it was a group booking ready to pay the balance but unfortunately as stated I couldn’t make the trip to the bank also the balance date fell to the back of my mind due to being Ill and had no prior warning than a cancellation email called up and was told the caravan we had booked had been resold. The lady’s attitude was very disgusting and rude! She told me ‘it isn’t our fault you have covid’ maybe it isn’t! But due to the pure rudeness they have definitely lost my custom in the future as a frequent booker with park holidays!!
lovely place to stay very quiet. the site is well maintained. the reception team you could not fault.one team member stood out was Charlotte so helpful well done team Tarka.
Staff are very helpful. lovely and peaceful site. Good dog play area.
Fabulous Location. From the minute we arrived and the friendly and helpful welcome we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay there. The Caravan was impeccably clean and everything was as we expected plus a few treats, compared with many similar sites this was just perfect as it was so quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Very few families staying which was a big bonus for us but there is a lovely play and picnic area there. We will definitely be coming back again very soon this year. Only a 10 minute drive to fantastic beaches and surf at Staunton and Croyde. Also great dog walks along dog friendly beaches at Crows. Can’t wait to come back. Also try the £5 bus rover ticket - covers a large area and saves on parking etc.
Accommodation was more than we had expected lots of space/clean seating area outside. We arrived late which was no problem the staff very helpful and friendly although first class,we had a great relaxing break
Lovely park we have been two years running and really enjoyed it. The staff are very friendly and helpful we didnt have a grill pan and asked for a new one and it arrived in ten minutes with no fuss . Its quiet and away from shops and pubs but its exactly what we enjoy. Saying that theres a lovely restaurant and pub just ten mins walk away and the shops are a ten minute car journey away so not a problem really. Lovely walks and beautiful scenery the tarka trail is a lovely walk around the estuary and woodland trail. Definitely recommend a visit.
Very nice quiet site. Some road noise but generally very good and clean. Had everything you would need for a family, but be aware the sharp knives are not sharp! Van was spotless when we arrived and check in was easy. One way system a little confusing at first. All in all great if you want a quiet base to see North Devon from.
Perfect stay. Wonderful accommodation. Beautiful beaches near by. The famous bike trail has the most amazing views. Perfect for couples and family that would like to explore North Devon. No entertainment, however this was perfect for me, as no late night party people waking you walking back from the bars. Dogs welcome, max of 2. Wonderful walking area for them too. Just Beautiful.
Just returned from a 4 night break in Devon staying at this conveniently located site. The staff were professional, organised, friendly and polite. The caravan was very clean and comfortable, it was nice to be there off-season when we could enjoy locations without so many tourists. Would definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys a quiet getaway!
Lovely site with great access to all of North Devons tourist highlights. The staff we met are all friendly and its possibly the best maintained site I have ever been too...All in a gold van with pets included for £180...Winner Winner chicken dinner
Lovely location but the mattress was dreadful. Hardly got any sleep, also got woken up by gunshots in the field next to us, but realise thats not the parks fault, spent the second night on the sofa cushions on the floor because that was our best bet to get a bit of sleep. I reckon it was 5 hours at best for both nights. Checked out a day early and went to Bath and checked in a lovely 5* Hotel for the night to catch up on our sleep 😂
Very poor customer focus, we booked a lodge, (mview 01 Everleigh), the premier lodge is stated on the website to be in prime location on the park, this is not the case, it is pushed in a corner up against uncut hedges, facing another unit that is used to live in (every 10 minutes they come out for cigarettesThe unit was not clean to high standard, dusty and finger marks, sand all over the table, lamps in bedroom not clean and full of dust, to top it all, the second bedroom as 2 single beds, only one made, the other not even a sheet put on it!! very poor lack of customer service. The park is on the busiest bypass in Devon, they say it goes quite, NO it does not.You can see from my pictures that the hedges are on the van, on windy nights these bang on the panels, it also makes the room very dark.We did have concerns over the lack of escape options in case of fire as this unit was so close to the hedges. The staff are unapproachable, all walk round with there head down, no contact. The site is just a base, it is not set up for anything else, luckily the weather was good, so we spent most of the time in Croyde Bay.On leaving, I passed my keys to reception, I was asked about my stay, I did say "not that impressed" infairness, I was given the opportunity to explain, I declined as wanted to get on.Once home I sent numerous emails, explaining my concerns, it took for ever for lack of responses, all defences, I even got one back from Terry quoting me the wildlife act (therefore tough that the caravan is touching the hedges). They love asking you if you have a dog (3 timesthe answer was still NOThey had a Covid parkway checking in system, not manned - confusion. In my opinion I would not touch this place, very poor customer service. They just want your money
Stayed on this site for 3years in a row, but showing signs of decline and greed into 2022. £3500+ for a 6 Bedroom lodge and thats with a 15% discount for 2weeks. Lodge had stains in carpets from dog wee although didnt smell, additional charge of £15 a week for broadband. Each to their own but really think before you book and ask how old the accomodation is before you book that you will be staying in.
Nice caravan park situated within minutes of beaches, RHS garden and National Trust sites. The small site itself has no entertainment nor restaurants so quiet and suitable as base-camp for sightseeing for our needs. Our caravan, although quite basic, was a two bedroom with en-suite - two loos, sinks and showers!
Everything about this park is perfectly run. Manicured lawns, tarmac roads, no litter, dog walking area. The caravan I stayed in had the wow factor. Large open plan design.
Positives: An extremely well kept and quiet static caravan park just three minutes drive from Barnstaple and another minutes drive to a large Asda. Excellent jumping off point for trips elsewhere. No noisy clubhouses etc. Caravans in excellent condition. Great!Negatives: Much made of nearby access to Tarka Trail (a metalled riverside cycle trackleading from Barnstaple to Braunton area, but from campsite demands crossing a busy dual carriageway TWICE and walking along an extremely narrow, nettle / bramble overgrown verge for a couple of hundred metres to reach a safe grass verge. No pathway at all. Only 200 metres....but VERY iffy for children / old / disabled. Dont try it wearing shorts!!!! They should do something about this. Not impressed! There are short footpaths to explore up the hill to Ashford village too......except theres no point, Ashford isnt a village anymore at all. Just a housing estate for the well-heeled. :-(
Very smart holiday park. Well kept grounds. Dog exercise area and little fairy trail walk. Our caravan was just right for our family. Not the Ritz but comfy and clean and in our budget. Very good.
We have had some our holidays here, and its a lovely place. Always happy with the caravans. Clean, tidy. Staff are friendly.
Been coming here since it opened. No shop or clubhouse just peace and quiet and safety for the young children. Very well run, spotless and the staff always helpful, courteous and welcoming. Highly recommended.
This was our second holiday here and used it as a base to explore North Devon. The staff were always there to help or recommend places to visit and they have a very good knowledge of the area. The park is well maintained and quiet. I would recommend this park.
Brilliant experience from start to finish, great value for the money,They even contact you a few days before your holiday to make sure everything is okay and ready for your arrival.Stayed in a gold plus caravan, parking space outside your accommodation, very clean inside and out, dog park is great,Second visit, will be definitely be back again, every where is easily accessible from Tarka Hoilday park, the local Chinese and Dominos pizza deliver to the park as well. Thanks again for a lovely break.
We had the most wonderful three night stay / long weekend during half term. We booked a platinum two bed lodge and it was a beautiful home away from home. Modern, perfectly clean, comfortable and luxurious, everything we needed for a wonderful and relaxing break. The park is well maintained, peaceful, everyone is friendly and Terry the Manager is on hand to welcome and recommend places to go and see with the kids.Admittedly when I first booked this park I assumed that their would be a restaurant on site but to be honest it didnt matter one bit that there wasnt as theres so much to do here. The location is the perfect spot to visit some of the UKs best and most beautiful beaches and we found some gems to eat at also including The Boathouse in Instow with gorgeous views, food and beach. The delicious pizza restaurant, The Pig and Olive in Westward Ho, 5 minutes away from go karting, crazy golf and other fun kids activities as well as the beach and arcades, we enjoyed a brilliant trip to Exmoor Zoo, had an amazing carvery at the Pier House with a table overlooking the ocean and cant forget the amazing cocktails and restaurant at the Sandy Cove Hotel with views to die for and gorgeous food.We had such a great time we have booked to return next month during the Summer Holidays and the kids are booked in for private surfing lessons at Woolacome Surf Centre another beautiful beach we cant wait to return to.All of the above is within a 20 min drive of Tarka Park and theres also a nice pub and restaurant within walking distance also. You are seriously spoilt for choice and I cant recommend it enough. If our holiday to Greece had not been cancelled wed never have found this beautiful park and part of the world, Im so grateful we did.Its the perfect place to get away and enjoy some quality time with your loved ones. Thanks for a great stay and we look forward to doing it all over again and seeing you all soon x
Warm and welcoming reception couldnt do enough for you. We are both key workers and enjoy the peaceful life here. The lodge we are staying in is very luxurious and clean as always and would definitely recommend if youre after a quite relaxing holiday. 10/10
Had the best lodge on site mv2 spotlessly clean, central heating was on when we arrived which took the chill from outside.the next day the accommodation manager came to see if everything was alright which was a nice touch. although the site has no club, swimming pool it was ideal for the lovely peace and hear the birds singing.my only gripe which has nothing to do with site, is busy main road no pavement unable to walk to town or to the tarka trail.
Lovely park, have visited numerous times over the years with family. Never had an issue until this year.Paid for our dog to come with us in our caravan as an extra fee, also booked a non dog caravan for other family members.Drove up, given both keys and folders by staff member, allocated our caravan. No problem - next morning Terry the manager bangs on our door at 8am telling us to leave the site (all guns blazing!!told us we had not declared our dog. Tried to explain we had and the staff member who signed us in even saw and stroked our dog (?!)I asked to speak to a higher member of staff, she stormed off telling us we have an hour to leave site (still in disbelief of how she’s spoken to us especially in front of my two small children).Eventually had an apology after going to reception and showing our folder and key- she’s realised we had in fact paid for our dog and it was their mistake for giving us a non dog caravan. Told us the reason she acted so out of hand was because she has had lots of holidaymakers sneaking dogs in.No apology to how she spoke to us or acted (it was truly shocking, at one point she told me I would be the reason someone would die if they had a severe pet allergy and stayed in this caravan)Still had three days left to stay so unfortunately after many years of staying at Tarka this has made us not want to come back. It’s a lovely park just a shame about the management and communication issue.
We arrived to be greeted by very courteous staff and nothing was a problem for them. Was directed to our caravan, which exceeded our expectations, even including an en-suite toilet in the bedroom. Looking forward to staying here for the next four nights 👍👍
Lovely basic caravan park which was exactly what we wanted. Staff were friendly and helpful. Caravan was in good condition, only qualm was it wasn’t particularly well equipped in the kitchen area however we could have reported this whilst there as confirmed on checkout. No quibbles, would definitely go back. Also beware the busy main road outside, it’s quite noisy even through the night so not great if you’re a light sleeper.
Understood there was nothing at this caravan park but its location and price was the draw. Amazing caravan/lodge everything you need ensuite, Bath room with bath, walk in wardrobe, washer dryer dishwasher and central heating which was hot. Park very clean and maintained really well. Had slight issue and dealt with straight away. Bus stop outside park or taxis £6 into Barnstaple. Loved the few days so much booked again this time in summer.
Excellent holiday park. Would certainly visit again if we happen to be back in North Devon. We had the top of the range caravan and was definitely an excellent value for money. The bed was slightly uncomfortable and the shower had a leak but it was bearable for us to which is why Im leaving a 5 star review. Thank you!
This is a really quiet site with no shop or facilities other than a launderette and thats all we needed so worked well for us. The only addition wed have benefited from is an outdoor tap so rinse wetsuits but perhaps there was one hidden somewhere. We stayed in an older style caravan which was quirky but comfortable and well equipped. The road outside is busy so pets and kids will need to be closely watched hut we noticed no road noise at our caravan.
Visited my son and wife who were there on holiday. The site looks a lot nicer than it used to, well set out and clean. They had a nice cabin type accommodation. Good place to stay with good access to surrounding amenities. Not really a child orientated site "not a bad thing if you like peace and quiet"😉
Excellent and professional service. Very high standard equipment of the caravan. Very good catwalk for dogs without a lead. Very well maintained and clean area. We felt a lot of privacy. Together with my daughters I spent a great time.
