Taqah Castle - Archaeological site in Salalah, Oman
Thank you so much for the Government for giving great efforts to maintain and to preserve historic places like this. Its an absolute joy for me. ❤️
A part is being renovated, other parts are available for a visit, old omani defensive constructions, worth seeing.
Very nice
The place is under rénovation but the guy Who was working let us take a tour incident this little castle with a good view on the city
Trip in 2016. Oman is so beautiful.
It was closed unfortunately but you can still walk up the stairs and enjoy the incredible view over taqah
Well maintained castle and includes a small museum with ancient items The castle provides a glimpse of the Dhofar region. From the top, one can have a wider view overlooking the city. One has to climb more than 100 steps from the front side, but the car can almost reach the top if one reach from other end at the back.
amazing view from up there.. You can see the whole area and capture lovely pictures 😍
Pretty beautiful place to visit, when you are done with everything in Salalah, it is a small castle, but it can still tell you a lot about the old times building abilities and talent, as it is still standing till today
Well curated artifacts, maintained in good condition. It gives a glimpse of history of the Darfour region. A good museum to spend couple of hours to look through various rooms.
This palace is like a museum, some old product placed in it related to royal family of oman
Its a beautiful place to visit while on your way to Wadi Darbat from Salalah city.Unfortunately it was closed on Eids day.
Fantastic place and peas fully
Just passed by this place for quick pics. It looks very special and old. It is not huge as I thought but still glad I saw it.Ticket Fee (Adult - 500, Children - 200 Baisas)
Very simple and beautifully displayed Onani culture
Nice small castle. Definitely good enough for a little stop. Located quite central and right into the city. The castle give the visitor a nice impression of the history of the building. Some areas were under construction so it should be even better when all areas are accessible
It was a good place to visit. History and tradition of Oman and Dhofar region was given prominence. Best thing was the frankincense tree in the middle of the castle and smells awesome.
We really enjoyed this small fort/castle. Price is very affordable for entrance. I really like that they had the rooms outfitted with some furniture and decorations to help visualize their uses. I also liked the frankincense tree in the courtyard. We didnt go up to the fort higher up the hill because it was hot, and we were tired. Maybe next time...
Located about half an hour from Salalah city, this old town of Taqah has beautiful beaches, a hilltop castle (closedand another Castle (open to publicThe rooms of this castle has been all labeled and designed in such way that it brings out the best of the past history and culture of Oman. Many Omani Walis (Governorsinhabited this castle until as early as 1984. Castle was restored and opened to public a decade later. Ticket per Adult is nominal 500 Baiza (1.3 USD/ 1 EURChildren entry is free. Toilet facility within the castle.
Beautiful castle..
One of the beautiful places in Salalah.
You can view the whole town from top as soldiers do in previous days... Nice view of sea and bunch of coconut trees and walking up the stairs gives you physical excercise..
Its a unique like a old City 💞
Nice museum and castle to visit (castle cannot be entered).
Just like thousands other castle to visit in Oman. But the reception person was extremely Nice. He greeted us pleasently and explained about castle visit. His politeness and friendliness made us visit inside the castle. Thank you Man
Small from out side but is beautiful from inside. Offers a view into the olden times👌
Small castle but well maintained with ancient items
Nothing special, nice views from top but you cant go inside the castle
A grait historical place. The tikit price is half riyal for adult. A small activity that can be added to day plan in salalah.
Really interesting.Shows how interesting a small, plain museum can be when well set up and maintained. Also interesting to see how an entire (although smallsociety could be set in such a narrow place.
Closed though advertised as open. Surrounded by rubbish left by lazy dirty people. Nice panoramic views of Taqah and the coastline.
Its a beautiful historic place for the people who have great interest in history and architecture. The route to it absolutely beautiful aswell.
The architecture !! Its a quaint little castle but very beautifully laid out, dont be fooled by the outside. If you have the time you must stop by. You should expect to spend about 30-45 min here.
A nice place to take in a bit of the history! Must visit!
In terms of taking a few pics, seeing the Castle itself (from the outside onlyand having a view from up there over-looking the mini town.. Thats all good and just about it.Nothing to read, like the history of the Castle and no way to see the inside of it.Bit disappointed by that, but guess its a way of preserving it and keeping it authentic.Also... Brace yourselves for a 139-step walk up to the Castle.
Reached here at 3pm but found it closed. May be have different timings for Ramadhan
Taqah Castle is located in the region of Dhofar in the South of Oman and at the east of Salalah. It was built in the 19th century and became the property of the government in the first half of the 20th century. The castle is having very narrow stairs and includes a lot of exhibits illustrating the old Omani way of life, also the late mother of Sultan Qaboos is also buried next to the castle.
Very nice historical place. I liked it very much. It showcase all the household items which were used in the past. Its a small cozy place where you can witness the glory of old Omani culture.
Historic site, worth a visit. Two very small forts, one atop a hill and the other at the base. Easily reachable by car. Friday the fort is open only in morning from 8AM to 11AM
The smallest, but most interesting castle we have visited on our trip thru Oman. Nice staff and the rooms are decorated with things from daily life to make it an authentic place. We even got free entry on Christmas Eve. Totally recommended to go there!
Food Castle for Arab standards. Small but well restored. Worth a visit if anyway around.
Taqah Castle was built in the 19th century. This makes it a relatively new castle in comparison to forts and castles found in the north of Oman, such as the forts in Nizwa, Bahla, and Nakhal, which are hundreds, if not thousands, years old. Taqah Castle is also different from other landmark castles in Oman in the fact that it used to be a private residence for a tribal leader, Sheikh Ali bin Taman Al Ma’shani – the grandfather of the mother of Sultan Qaboos. Taqah Castle became the property of the government in the first half of the 20th century during the times of Sultan Said bin Taimur, the father of Sultan Qaboos. During the 1960s the castle was expanded by adding the outer wall and its four towers. The castle was more recently renovated during the times of Sultan Qaboos and reopened as a museum in 1994.
we went to the top of Taqa Castle..amazing view and place is very close to Taqa beach
Enter ticket is 500 baisa (1000 baisa=1 rial). Well maintained and like a time capsule. The castle has two parts, one is the main building which has ticket box which open to public , and another one locates on the top of small hills within walking distance that can visit outdoor only. On the way here is a little bit lost due to some constructions are going nearby. Just look for any castle structure on the top of hill first, then should be able to see the main structure on the bottom of the hill.
The castle maintained clean for the tourist attraction. Worth visiting in the city. Need some clear road signs to facilitate the tourists. The display of the ancient things are the attraction. People all over the world will like to visit such places, when it is maintained well and the route map is clear.
Friday is holiday. Other days its open. Has a castle and some old exhibits inside a nearby building
👍Just for historic person, the entry fees is 1 rial. Guidance and history will be explained by the incharge. Good to see but just for one time. If your coming for salalah tour then this place is included in the list.👌
Historical place well maintained in its heritage identity , Recommended for history lovers . NK
Interesting history and was a pleasant visit. The staff was very welcoming, very friendly and eager to teach you about the history of the Castle.
My wife and I have been to Tarqa several times and finally stopped in. We loved this renovated castle/museum. Its small but represents the history well.
