Upmarket restaurant serving southern Chinese dishes, with private karaoke and function rooms.
I have been to Tao Tao Ju many times. The service is not amazing, they are very busy so you need to expect a fast service and sometimes not extremely friendly, but the food is very good. They have a large room at the back of the restaurant that can accommodate a big group of people.
Great food & service! We ordered mostly dimsum and it was all so tasty! I suggest getting the Bamboo Set because you get to try a lot of dimsum for just £26, cheaper especially if your share with another person. Really enjoyed my visit here and would definitely come back!
After a long walk in Piccadilly Square and neighborhood, we were looking for a Chinese restaurant. We found Tao Tao Ju.About 30 minutes of wait time - I must say that this was worth a wait.Delicious 😋 food served hot and quick. All dishes were well cooked.Feedback -1. The chicken in Sweet & Sour Chicken 🐔 was way over cooked, very hard and chewy. I hope they fix this.2. Would have been nice if they hadnt charged me "50 P" for a glass of hot drinking water 💦.Would love to visit this place again ☺.
The place is really nice, and so is the foodBut they have fees added on in subtle ways: such as £15 minimum spend per customer - (they wrote this in small at the bottom of the menu.)Along with a £7 service fee they add on at the end of the bill, without telling you. Its just not worth all the money for the *same* food which you can get in the restaurants next door for way cheaper.
A cut above other spots in the area. Friendly service, reasonable prices, and the food is great - we had the set dim sum basket - all of which seemed handmade, and really good quality. Standout were the shanghai dumplings, crispy duck pancakes, and the char sui pork buns and pork puffs. Will definitely be back!
Taste: 5 out of 5. Cantonese food with good flavors.Service: 5 out of 5. Staff are friendly and supportive:I came to the restaurant around 10:20pm after my meetings. They quickly helped me to place the order and brought the food over.Price: reasonable and affordable.Location: In the Soho area (ChinatownVery convenient.Recommend if you want to eat something with good flavor and diversity.
Had lunch with a friend, we had 7 plates of dim sum, 2 glasses of wine(we ordered the cheapest £5.20 per glassand a pot of Chinese tea, it was £65 in total, I would say it was a bit expensive, service was really slow and average. There are lots of choices in China town serving similar food, I don’t think I will go again, sorry.
Dined out with a friend.Spring rolls well done, as well as the chicken and veg noodles 😋Prices are fair, maybe the staff should not be there staring at tables almost all the time as they do.Despite this, wide range of choice of Chinese dishes. You should give it a try
Good Chinese in Soho. Compared to other options is not expensive a acceptable quality. Probably some dishes lack more flavour. Fast service.
As a Chinese American who frequently goes back to China, I know good, authentic Chinese food. I was excited to find London had a Chinatown and happened to stop by. Very pleased and upscale atmosphere- relaxing classical music and overall nice atmosphere. Workers dressed with a tie, does a proper wine service. You don’t experience that in China OR the USA. Very interesting twist. Food exceeded my expectations. Was not sure what to expect but it was savory and had authentic flavors. Reminded me of home! (China). I was freaking out because I couldn’t remember what this restaurant was called and was worried because I wanted to come back tomorrow before my flight home. Wait staff was also very courteous and polite. It was busy so they didn’t check up on me almost at all, so i had to wait to get their attention. That would be my only “suggestion” if any. Excellent food, courteous staff, great atmosphere. What else could you ask for?
We ordered on Deliveroo and it was really good! Things were still warm, good quantity and had a lot of flavour. We loved the prawn dumplings, the chicken with black bean sauce and the roasted pork char siu buns. Would not order the pork dumplings again. It was a little pricy bit there was discount on Deliveroo so that worked out well. We will order again for sure!
Great Chinese restaurant. Dim sum was excellent. Beef and noodles were perfect. Nice service too.
Great service, staff were friendly and welcoming. They have a great selection of food whether you are a vegetarian, like meat or fish, like noodles or rice dishes. They also have a large selection of different dumplings you will definitely find something you can eat. was delicious. We had Chinese tea but they also have beer, wine or a selection of soft drinks or juices. I found the food delicious and will definitely come back
We ordered some dishes (not including dim sumfrom Tao Tao Ju via Deliveroo. The food came from a dark kitchen based near Bethnal Green. The food generally tasted good, but two of the four items were very different from how they were described on the menu. If I received these in a restaurant I would have to send them back to the kitchen (imagine if someone in the group had an allergy, getting the wrong dish would be a disaster).1. The Malaysian style Ho Fun had the wrong type of noodle - a char kuay teow noodle instead of ho fun noodle. It also did not match the Deliveroo app menu item which had a photo showing a typical beef ho fun type of dish that you would get in a dim sum restaurant.2. The chicken hot pot dish was supposed to be chicken cooked with soy sauce and rice wine. What we got was chicken that had been battered and stir fried in a sweet sauce.I recommend the following remedial actions:1. Review and correct the Deliveroo menu based on the dishes that are actually being delivered. If a dish cannot be made as described it should not be sent out to the customer.2. Set up a Google listing for the dark kitchen. Then the bad reviews of the dark kitchen will not affect the rating of the restaurant, which is clearly doing much better.
One of the best dim sum we’ve had! Would recommend 😊
The male waiter was probably the rudest, highly emotional and impatient man weve met, my friend and I decided to sit outside to enjoy the sun and it would be easier as she was a wheelchair user as inside looked like it didnt accommodate any accessibility and he just looked at us like we were wasting his time, we wanted to get a vegan fried rice and he was scolding us telling us this is how fried rice is with egg, we had to insist. We quickly ate and left, the other waitresses came out to have a gawk at us and waved us goodbye. It was the most unpleasant dining out experience weve had. Will definitely not recommend.
bloody good all day dim sum - highly recommend the xo turnip cakes and peanut butter and hoisin rice noodle rolls. Service is efficient but isn’t overly friendly as is typical for this area
The crispy duck is absolutely delicous and the steamed and grilled dumplings, among the best Ive ever tasted. The service is even a bit less stiff and hurried than in other neighbouring restaurants, with complimentary jasmine tea served to my 15-year-old daughter, for her to try it. Chinese cuisine as we all like it: simple, tasty, without the fuss and the unnecessary salty sauces. 🙂
We got the set menu 2, very tasty food. Nice selection of starters and friendly staff.
Favourite Chinese restaurant in Chinatown London. The food is excellent, not cheap, but there again its in the centre of London.Wine menu is limited but good value. Just beware 12.5 %service charge is added to your bill.
Had a great time at Tao Tao Ju. Huge selection of different meat dishes in different sauces as well as classic dishes such as dim sum and duck pancakes. Friendly staff and good value
A good experience of Saturday dim sum. Cosy, spacious interior and decent dim sum at reasonable price. This restaurant is located conveniently in China Town. We had about 8 dishes to share among 4 of us. It’s good portion and it costed us ~£20 per person.Likely to visit again in the future!
Its a very cute and fancy place definitely! Amazing food and extremely friendly staff❤️ definitely worth a visit!💯
A friend took me here to have dinner for the first time.Nice food, friendly staff and quick service.I really suggest to take their dim sum, their so good! We tried also the duck and some other dishes. Everything was tasty. Prices are ok for the food we had, should try again
Enjoyed the vegan set menu which was £25pp, food was absolutely gorgeous. The only dish that probably could have done with some more flavour was the Singapore noodle but everything else was amazing. We did have to wait a while before the staff came over to take our orders (30 minutes).
Google search for the best Chinese brought me here - and WHAT a delight! Service very fast and efficient, and the food was delicious. The hot and sour soup was simply the best I’ve had. It’s by no means the world’s cheapest, but we cleared our plates. Lovely!
We were a party of three, waited a few minutes for a table to be available. My father had the pad-tai, prepared as vegetarian, with veggies and bean curd. My wife had the chicken corn soup, sweet & sour chicken and steamed rice. I ordered the vegetarian spring rolls and rice with vegetables. We all enjoyed the food as we did the service - they were both very good. I can definitely recommend this place for those in search of good Chinese food.
very disappointed fried rice. no seasoning and dry. shrimp they use not very good quality. 11£ for this small portion. would not come back.
Nice place to have dim sum! The food and the service was great especially the fried prawn wonton and the stir fry beef noodle.
We ordered Tao Tao Ju from Deliveroo. The food was prepared and came from one of their kitchens outside of central London (near Acton?).The dim sum were of good portions and tasted good. Loved the chicken wings and fried custard buns. The Singapore style vermicelli was a little spicy but was a nice balanced mouthful. The fujian fried rice is always nice. The food came in this really nice recyclable delivery bags.
Craving Dim Sum, we came here. Most Chinatowns Ive been to around the world, you cant go wrong with any place you eat at. Normally the food is cheap and delicious. The case wasnt the same here. This place is overpriced and the dim sum are the smallest Ive ever had and the chicken soup is not even enough for one person (very small). Although the dim sum had a decent flavor, we have had better and honestly we left really disappointed and still hungry. For the price we paid, we wont be coming back due to the price and the mediocre food.
So far one of the best Dim Sum places Ive tried in Chinatown. Loved all my usual dim sum staples - hargau, siumai, char siu pao, and liu sha bao. Bonus surprise cheung fun with doughsticks on the inside - Ive only every had that in Hong Kong and I was pleasantly surprised to find it here.
Absolutely amazing food. Definitely recommend going there. Thoroughly enjoyed the dim sum.
Probably one of the best restaurants in London Chinatown. If you want to have quality food relatively inexpensive then Tao Tao Ju will be a great choice for Chinese food. I recommend trying the bao buns. Sometimes there is a queue and the waiting time will be around 20-40 minutes depending on the time and the day. The Weekends during dinner time is usually the most crowded period.
Jaw droppingly delicious dumplings 🥟🦐 - it was like tasting what a prawn har gau dumpling should actually taste like! So plump and fresh! The char sui bao was full of delectable pork chunks with that sweet salty sauce and a fluffy cloud-like dough. Such quality ingredients. The crispy duck was also good - crisp and crunchy - but a wee bit dry. Lacking succulence- the hoisin sauce wasn’t to my taste - I mean I like it thicker and probably way less artisan 😅 I recommend getting ALL the dumplings! They are just so beautiful!
We ordered a takeaway (twice so farfor delivery. Fresh and tasty dim sum. Very good. Only criticism would be the portion of squid was a little smaller than I would expect for the price and the Pad thai was did not taste as expected (ie not very ‘Thai’, but more ‘Chinese’but was still good.
Amazing food. We had delivery off Deliveroo. Arrived on time, packaging was amazing and veggie and meat dishes were super tasty!
I was super excited for this restaurant to open in my neighborhood and be available on Deliveroo. However, I was incredibly disappointed with the portion sizes. We had a half full container of crispy beef floss, coated in batter that cost £13! The other items that we ordered were overly sweet and tasted very one dimensional. We ordered two different kinds of noodles they both tasted pretty much the same and lacked flavor. Incredibly disappointing and overpriced. The portions are tiny.I think the money that youre paying is going towards packaging. The food arrived hot and in an insulated bag. Everything was packaged well. I just wish it tasted as good as it looked.
Really good dim sum (served all day! and fantastic service. Star dish was the fried turnip cake with XO sauce - order this It was so tasty. Cannot wait to re visit - next time we will be taking friends so we can order more from the menu. I want to eat everything. Gung Bao chicken was also great; loved the celery in this..new one for us!
Ordered the Special Roast Platter (Three Kindsfrom Deliveroo for £14.90. Ended up with a tiny portion of meat, probably about what you would get if youd ordered it on rice. Five small pieces of duck, two of which were just skin and bone, and small pieces of pork. Sauce was also lacking in taste.
What’s your must eat item in Yum Cha?My cousin came from Newcastle to visit me. I asked him what he wanted for lunch. He said ‘Let’s go to Yum Cha coz’ we can eat slowly and have more time to chat’. As we planned to go to British museum after lunch, we went to @tao which located in Chinatown.WHAT WE GOT🥟Prawn & Spinach Dumpling with Crab Meat🥟Prawn Dumpling (Har Gow)🥟Prawn Dumpling (Wontonin Spicy Soup🐔Chicken Claws in Black Bean Sauce🥬Monk Vegetable Cheung Fun🌶Fried Turnip Paste with XO sauce🍖3 Kinds of Roasted Meat with RicePrawn Dumpling (Har Gowwas filled with king prawns and bamboo shoot. Translucent skin with perfect folds. It’s defo authentic and classic dim sum. Love it😍😍😍Prawn Dumpling in Spicy Soup used wonton which wrapped with prawns and pork. The wrapper was slippery and thin while the filling was flavourful & juicy. Together with the spicy soup was perfect for winter♥️♥️♥️Chicken Claws in Black Bean Sauce is also one of the classic dim sum in Hong Kong. The chicken claw was soft and tender. Really great selection, short wait but well worth it. Dim sum was fantastic and a wide selection of other dishes too.
Great place, it’s a very efficient place. They cater to everything you require whilst serving everyone else. The dim sum is amazing and the crab was extraordinary. I would definitely recommend this place as the go to dim sum in China town! I will be back here!
Very good Chinese restaurant to go to. We went to try the dim sum and it was freshAnd they had a good range of dim sum, rice dishes and noodles. Maybe the dim sum could be a bit larger but it did the job, between three people it was about 85 pounds total. The staff were fast and efficient. You got a large sheet with details of the dim sum in English describing the dim sum with the names. It made it easy to fill in. The fried custard buns were great.
Delicious food but the service from the staff was poor, ordering and service was way too rushed! I wanted the egg fried rice but couldn’t because the waiter was rushing around too much.
We had a lovely pre show meal in here Saturday evening. Lighr and airy dining room to the rear of the restaurant. Friendly staff, prompt service and delicious food. Would thoroughly recommend and definitely go again.Highly recommend the king prawn and scallops in XO Sauce!
We ordered a few veggie options from Tao Tao Ju. We enjoyed the meal, the vegetable dishes were tasty. Id try more food from this Chinese restaurant again. I loved the custard buns, yummy!
Really tasty dim sum and pleasant waiters, I had tried their take away which is really good and it is even better on site of course! Service was really quick and the bill was reasonable! We each took three dishes (3 or 4 pieces in a dishand shared them, and it was the perfect amount.I really recommend!
Easy to get to from the tube station and find on the Main Street with maps. Customer service was good, food arrived quickly. But the food nothing out of the extraordinary. Pricing was average pricing for dinner, we got 2 dishes to share and it came with prawn crackers too. I would go again, but would probably try somewhere new.
The meal was fantastic! High quality Chinese food at a good price point. We were able to try a large variety of items while sitting outside and enjoyed everything. We were especially fond of the jasmine tea, black chili chicken, shredded beef, and fried rice, pictured below. We will be back the next time we are in London!
