Tannery Falls - State park in Hancock, United States
Love this park. 2 rivers with falls to follow and enhoy
Beautiful even in a drought!!
These falls are in the middle of nowhere yet people still come from far away to see them. Its just a short walk down from the top of the falls to the base. There are a lot of stairs and it is very steep at some parts, with no railings to hold onto, at some parts very narrow, making it difficult for certain persons. There is a loop trail that continues on after the bottom of the falls.I brought my two large dogs (75lbs & 60 lbs), but I probably wouldnt bring them again because of the steep narrow stairs and all the people and other dogs. There was litter along the path down to the falls. Lindt truffle wrappers and large slushie cups, clearly not from the hikers.I made the mistake of going on the 4th of July weekend, thinking there will be less people as its not really a spot where you can picknic or swim or do anything related to the holiday. As soon as I got to the bottom I took my camera out of my bag, set up really quick, took a total of 2 test pictures of the falls, and a large group of people came in, completely ignoring my existence, walked right infront of the falls (and my cameraand just stood there looking around and taking pictures on their smartphones. Instead of asking them if I could just have another minute or two, since I drove about 50 minutes to photograph the waterfall, I instead figured I would step away and patiently wait for them to move on. They continued standing right under the falls, for quite awhile, a couple of them were scrolling social media! I continued to wait as long as I could and then they got snacks out so I decided to just come back another day. Please, if you see someone trying to take pictures, especially if they have professional photography equipment, please be courteous and let them have a minute or two to get what they came here for. Bonus: they ended up leaving shortly after I came back up to the top..Ill give this place another chance during a weekday, but from now on Ill stick to the places that are harder to access/you have to actually hike to, that generally lack rude and inconsiderate people. Ive had more positive experiences with people at crowded national parks!
This place is a hidden gem down a busted road. There are rarely people here during the week, and thats when you have the entire waterfall to yourself to enjoy. So peaceful and so much to explore. There are multiple trails, and Ive heard that there are spots to go fishing too!
Its so peaceful, and beautiful going through the trails. When with a group, it made the experience fantastic as it was all our first time, and we were like kids
Great falls, rated a 5/5 in the Waterfalls of New England book. There is an 80-footer with a more gradual drop and 60-footer with a more considerable drop... Being early Spring, we were told by others and saw firsthand hiking that the road to the trail had deep puddles and mud so I would advise during this time of year to have truck with AWD if you go directly to the Falls, but luckily we hiked in from a further parking lot with a better access road.
Absolutely AMAZING! A hidden gem for sure. Very rough drive down to parking lot but well worth it. Can just do a little walk but to see the full majestic of the falls you have to go to the bottom.
Kinda tricky to find but so worth the trip. The trail is moderate but steep with really decent steps, take your time and go to the bottom, those falls are incredible, maybe an 80 foot cascade. Really worth the effort.Check out the area, there are several waterfalls on the four or five different brooks that join here.
Beautiful falls, some nice trails. Dont miss the small sign to turn down a dirt road!
These are some nice falls. Its a little climb down to the base, wear your hiking shoes but its worth the trip. Beautiful falls with a nice view.
Nice walk down to see BOTH fallsBeautiful 😍
We loved the waterfalls!!
Photos dont do it justice. Just go hike it.
Great spot to explore an check out the waterfalls!!
My kids enjoyed the waterfall very much, not a long distance from parking area to the falls.
A moderate hike though worth the trek.
Truly a hidden gem! Totally surprised how awesome! A fairly easy hike down but NOT on an even trail. Many roots, stairs, and rocks to contend with but so so worth it. Wear good shoes with good tread.
Amazing place to visit! The road to get there is unpaved, bring an SUV.
Short hike with very peaceful views
Easy-Moderate hike. Pretty short, but can be steep in some parts. The whole trail has beautiful waterfall views and its overall very relaxing. I went in the afternoon and there were only a couple other groups there. There was parking at the trail head (a bit ahead of where google maps lands you)
Very nice area for hiking and biking, the waterfalls are big. Trail that goes down to the falls is decent and it has stairs in some spots. Theres a parking area too.
One of my favourite place. Two fals right next to each other very nice hike between two rivers , later on emerge in one. Best to see is in a spring or fall where is the lot of water good hiking shoes recommended.
A fantastic short hike that takes you along Ross Brook, and Tannery Brook down through a mossy forest to a point where the two brooks cascade down into a little glen joining together to continue to the cold river. Its a little steep in a short section, but infrastructure has been put in place to make the short hike down to the falls a rather easy, and managble experience even for people not as able to traverse rugged terrain.
Beautiful Falls, Easy hike in (decent shoes recommended)Definitely worth the trip
Great hike its pretty steep so be prepaid for sure legs
Nice hike to see the falls. Safety rails are set up near a gorge. They help to guide the path. The road getting there is unpaved and can be very rugged. Dont go in your low rider; you may bottom out. Lots of pretty nature photo opps.
Beautiful falls and forest. Nice trail to hike.
This is a beautiful place. A must see whenever you are in this town.
Nice view of the falls
Moderate hike. Beautiful area.
Gorgeous falls but the rock steps to get down to the falls can be a little slippery so watch your step :)
Short easy hike. Beautiful with 2 rivers. Places to explore. Enjoyed my time with daughters and well go back.
Beautiful place to visit for those who want to invest a little exercise into their hike.
Beautiful place...tricky to get there but worth it!
Very short hike to reach the falls, which are beautiful. A few streams coming together a handful of waterfalls and one breathtaking falls. Easy family hike with critters and water to enjoy. Great hidden gem.
I went on an April afternoon, road have to go off roading or walk the unmaintained road, when you get to the trail, it is amazing, just to see the falls, and sit and listen, thats what you came for, two falls, just amazing, to find this amazing nature, will give you a peaceful adventure
I’ve been to most of the waterfalls in MA. This one is the most remote, and I think the most rewarding of my waterfall trips. It’ll blow you away. This is a WILD place in all of the best ways.
Absolutely beautiful waterfall area. Highly recommend to allThere are so many spots to throw your swim suit on and just jump in and enjoy the water in the middle of summerBeautiful amazing place. Natural water holes to swim in
These woods where nothing short of out of a story book amazing rock and tree formations the natural trails on the hike down....just wow im addicted to hikes like these who knew there right here in massachusetts....cant wait for the next adventure out!
Savoy Mountain State Forest is an amazing Massachusetts treasure. Tannery Falls is just one of many reasons for that.
Great hiking area. fantastic scenery.
The road into Tannery Falls is not maintained. AWD or a nice walk will get you into the falls. This is a must experience escape for anyone seeking peace & serenity...
Amazing views, well maintained paths
One of those places I hate to recommend because more people will visit... and that would be selfish and self-defeating on my part. This is a beautiful place! A photographers joy. Wearing shoes suitable for hiking will keep you safer. Visit and enjoy. Oh, please, please, please, dont litter and if you see someone else has not respected the beauty, please pick up what you are able and take it away with you.
Great place for a hike. The hike down and up from the falls is not to bad. If you walk across the rocks the trail continues for a while and you can walk along the river
Beautiful hike. Fun for the kids. And its free.
It was a tough place to find but once you find it you park in the parking lot and then walk into the woods. The beginning part of the trail is hard to find... Just follow the flow of the water. There are 2 waterfalls in one location. There is a swimmung hole at the base of the 2nd waterfall. I do suggest water shoes and be very careful the moss on the rocks are extremely slippery. There are people that go skinny dipping there sometimes so beware.
Had a great time! Beautiful butterflies. 2 different falls. Nice place for a picnic lunch on the rocks.
Gave Tannery falls a 3 star because the hiking trail isnt well managed. There are down trees and branches. Over grown greenery on the blazed path and there isnt anything gravel or mulch on the areas that "flood" after a good rain. The drive up part is well managed as well as the small trail to the falls. Beautiful falls and not very crowded. Hopefully there is a better job of maintaining the hiking 4.5mil trail.
Love how in one little spot there are two different waterfalls. Nice trail
