TangMaRu in Anmore
Description
Privilege
Very authentic Korean restaurant. We really enjoyed the food.
Luckily I beat the lunch rush (Came here around 11:50am)Got sat right away and food came out fast!Their Pork Cutlet was fantastic, especially with their house made sauce!Definitely coming back for more!
Morenaengmyon is super good! (bibimnaengmyon). not really a fan of their pork cutlet. i recommend they have a small and large size to choose from. the only option is one with 2 cutlets and a very scoop of rice. im not a big pork eater....but preferred they had an option of 1 cutlet and 1 scoop of rice for say $12.99.
MoreTheres always a line up (~15 min waitaround dinner time, but its worth it. Nowadays, they started asking for your food orders before seating you, so look at the menu near the door and have an idea ready. The classic soups are all around $15. If you dont know what to order, try the spicy seafood tofu soup (filled with spicy seafood flavoror the ox bone soup (basic, light soup, where you add salt to taste). Those two are my go-tos!Once you sit down, get excited as the kimchi here is top tier (especially their radish kimchi)! Finally, if you care about getting your rice in a stone bowl, dont go an hour before closing (they stop serving rice in the stone bowls probably for how long those things take to clean if the customer doesnt soak it).Which, btw for the stone bowl rice: use the large (room tempwater jugs water to soak your stone bowls after you scoop out your rice (at the start of your meal). Soaking it like this makes it easier to clean, but also if you cover it and let it sit on the side, you get a simple rice porridge out of it.
MoreWas super busy when I went so there was a bit of a wait but it was super worth it! So delicious! Definitely hope to come back soon! They also took our order while we were waiting so the food was ready and came out quite quickly!
MoreWow, just really amazing food. The best seafood pancake Ive had by far.
One of my goto Korean restaurants when there are so many to choose from. Has gone a bit salty lately for my taste but still a great place to eat. All the menu items taste great, good portions, and cold noodles (neng-myunis the best during the hot days. They seem to have their own press for the noodles.
MoreI dont leave reviews often, but the authenticity and the flavors of the dishes here are amazing. The taste reminds me of home cooking. You really cant go wrong with the dishes here!Personal favorites are the tonkatsu, nangmyeon, seafood pancake
Moreauthentic korean food, really awesome beed soup!
I really wanted to visit this place as it was well known for pork katsu and pork bone soup. However, it turned out to be so-so to me. The best one among what I ordered was cold noodle. Pork bone soup had pork smell in a little bad way. And the portion of pork katsu was good but the taste was not extraordinary. Maybe I was not too starving on that day or the ingredients were less fresh. So I would like to visit again for pork bone soup if it is always the same quality as I had or better.
MoreIt’s rare to find 함흥냉면 (the thin grey noodleoutside of Korea so I was happy they had it here. The broth was a lot sweeter than I’m used to so that was the only downside.
MoreI always get the donkatsu here. Tastes like traditional Korean cutlet.
Food is really good but the service wasn’t good.Came around 4:15PM and the staff were on their lunch break. They seated us and told us that they’re still eating so they will take our order in 15 minutes.I understand the staff need break/lunch time but they should close the restaurant for that time if they’re not going to be operating. About 4 tables were just seated and waiting for the staff to finish eating.
MoreReally loved the flavor and all but I personally wish they wpuld have bit more meat in my dish and the dahng myun seemed cooked too long but other than that my family really enjoyed their food.
MoreGood taste. The kimchi is one of the best in all of Greater Vancouver. Would be nice if they didnt pester the customers to make an order even before sitting down and taking a look at the menu first.
MoreI always come back here for spicy cold noodle. Its so good
One of the Best Gook Bap(Soup and Riceplace in town! Rice comes with Stone hotpot, so, it’s extra delicious! Make sure you pour the rice into the separate bowl right away! My go to is Sulung Tang and Galbi Tang. My wife likes Yook Gae Jang. Enjoy!
MoreThis used to be my favourite restaurant and I had many 5-star visits. All of my recent visits were disappointing (poor quality and lack of customer serviceand I will not be going back.
MoreAuthentic Korean kitchen. We were hungry came in and this kind of food was perfect! Reasonable price too. Recommend.
MorePretty good place to get some korean food. We had the gamja tang and dolsot bibimbop. We saw lots of people have katsu and cold noodles too which looked good. Pretty busy place but high turnover. There was a small short line when we went midday on Sunday.
MoreGood parking place. We order Korean style.2.spicy cold noodles and 2.Bibim noodles for Lunch.Very delicious & Very good serving and economy price.
MoreWe ordered by phone. Apr 23. They told us wait outside until we call you to say that the food is ready for pickup. We waited from 6:45 to 7:30 nobody called. It was a busy day for them. We could see that all tables inside were taken. We were not sure what to do. Eventually couldnt wait any longer. One of us went inside to investigate another 15 minutes passed till he could get a hold of one of their crew. She asked for our phone number and found the order on their system. Without any explanation or apologizing for their terrible customer service, she simply brought up the credit card machine and asked for the payment. . . She couldnt speak English well . Our friend paid for the order and was told to wait another 10 minutes. Finally we got our food at 8pm . An hour and 15 minutes after we ordered. . . We took the expensive dinner home and just realized that they were really not fair with the amount of meat or seafood in stew or any one of our 6 orders. . . Everyone was hungry so they just wanted to have their dinner and not complain. . . I was the host and extremely disappointed and embarrassed. . . For example the seafood tofu soup was full of onion, tofu but almost no seafood. Only one small muscle, 4 tiny shrimp. That was all. . . I understand that any restaurant gets too busy or too quiet sometimes and its hard to predict how much food to prepare, . . but thats not an excuse to serve just a little food because you dont have enough for every order. Best solution is to Not Accept any more orders when you know that you wont have enough food left. . . We will never order from this place ever again. . . I think they should be ashamed and actually return our money because we were charged but they didnt provide. . . Extremely disappointed. . . . . .
MoreDelicious meal! Hope to try their 냉면 next time
Delish ! Just moved from NYC to BC and found this amazing Korean restaurant. Will go back.
MoreThey have the best kimchi here. Small menu but good all traditional Korean food. The ladies are always busy yet very friendly and caring. This place definitely will be my regular spot.
MoreOh my goodness. This is the place to come if you want that authentic simple Korean ox bone soup. I love the super simple menu and deep rich flavours of the broth. Definitely a great choice for a cold day!
More4 stars during lunch0 stars during dinnerLunch: - 4 starsTheir soups are now more watered down compared to few years ago. Not sure if this is to accommodate a wider audience, but its lost the authenticity of the Korean gam-ja tang , which should have plenty of chili oil in the soup andPerilla seeds , but both aspects are lacking compared to years ago. The soup/broth no longer has that deep spicy flavour. Rather it is more bland, perhaps this is better for people who are new to this dish, but it has lost its authentic taste. - 4 starsDinner - 1 starThey list their operating hours as closing at 9pm, but last call for food is 8pm and their signature stone-pot rice last call is at 7:15pm.Normally, every soup item is served with the stone-pot rice , however, when you order food past 7:15pm, you are served regular rice but still charged full menu price. On the menu, the stone-pot rice is indicated as few dollars more than the regular rice.If the owner is reading this, I suggest you change the hours of operation to be closing at 8pm not 9pm as it is hugely misleading. Also, if you are not serving the stone-pot rice from 7:15pm, you should make several written notices in the restaurant and on the menu that it is not being served past 7:15pm. Furthermore, orders that are placed during this time should receive a discount for the price difference between the stone-pot rice and the regular rice.
MoreFood is top notch and service is quick. The short rib soup and seafood pancake are must haves. It’s now part of our weekly take out rotation! You will not be disappointed 👍🏻
MoreWas craving Korean food and came here based on the reviews. We ordered the pork bone soup and pork cutlet. The broth was light, flavorful, had depth with a hint of spice. The pork cutlet was good but not as good as the pork bone soup.Make sure to come early as its a small space and gets busy fast.We recommend this place.
MoreTaste was 100% authentic and tasty! The soups were on point and the seafood pancake was perfectly crispy outside while still soft inside. Only slight downside was service was a bit lacking.
MoreHomey Korean flavours at Tangmaru in Port Moody.I was extremely sad when it temporarily shut its doors during COVID last year - not because it doesn’t get business… this spot is PACKED with customers during lunch and dinner, but because it’s our go to spot for 감자탕 or Pork Bone Stew 🍲.It’s such a great spot but it always slips our mind when we’re thinking of where to eat 🤣 glad to have went the other day.As always, we ordered their specialty, the Pork Bone Stew, and a Katsu as well. Notable mention goes to their KIMCHI. If y’all like young kimchi, this is for you. I prefer mine more aged but this was quite addicting.
MoreOur first visit after getting a recommendation from a friend.. service was quick and simple menu with great soup choices. We were lucky to get there early as there was a line up when we left.. will be back.
MoreCustomer service is excellent. Cleanliness is better than many other restaurants. The food is delicious and freshly prepared. One thing I like from the food is that "IT IS NOT SALTY" "IT IS HEALTHIER" than many other restaurants. Thank you for not putting salt. Wheelchair accessible. Bus stops near by.
MoreEvery time I miss Korean food (from Korea.. I go to Tang Maru. They have excellent traditional Korean food. The soups are always perfectly SIZZLING hot and the stone pot RICE is excellent as well! If you want some authentic hearty yummy Korean food at a decent price .. Tang Maru is the place to go. The interior may not be top notch but the food definitely makes up for it.
MoreNot a bad location for Korean stews. Service was excellent and extremely friendly. By far one of the best levels of service when considering the number of Korean food places that fail to do this properly. Would have to say its on par with wangama on north road that Ive been going to for the last 10 plus years. The stews are flavorful. The seafood pancake is full and crispy. Only dish that failed to meet a good level of acceptance and deliciousness was the tonkatsu. Wouldnt recommend this. The sauce is not quite right and the meat not as tender. The rice was warm to cold but the salad was fine. Their signature stew was excellent as was their everything stew. Will try their number 2 stew on the menu next time. Recommend a visit for sure.
MoreA cozy Korean restaurant serves delicious typical Korean food we like. Their beef short rib soup, pork bone soup, and seafood soup, seafood pancake all taste Tammy. Their rice is also cooked in the stone bowl that you can pour rice tea into . And the burned flavour of this rice is amazing.
MoreBest Korean soups you can get in the city. Taste is what you would get at a good restaurant in Korea. Cannot find a soup place that can even compare in the Lower Mainland.
MoreDelicious Korean food, almost feels like its homemade!Ive tried their 모듬 수육, 감자탕, 매운물냉면, and 돈까스, and they are all super delicious! I actually ended up coming here two weekends in a row.The servers are all super friendly as well.Because of the Covid situation, they are operating at only half the capacity (as of June 21, 2020), so you can expect a line-up if you go there for dinner past 6pm. I got there at 5:30pm and we had to wait 5 minutes.
MoreThis place is the best for gamjatang (pork bone soupone of Korean food. It is spicy (not for most Koreanand handful for eating meat in the bone.It was a little bit salty today that I cant give 5 stars.감자탕맛집
MoreHad the spicy cold noodle and donkatsu. Donkatsu sauce was too buttery for my taste, and cold noodle is descent. It may be the best cold noodle in the greater vancouver area.
MoreFood tastes good, little bit pricy but not bad.
This place, by far, has the best korean soups in all of Port Moody. When its a cold day, I usually take the family here to enjoy some beef bone soup. My go to dish is their pork back bone soup. The portion are hardly and they serve the rice in hot stone bowls. Once the rice is finished, you poor some water into it. The water boils with the rest of the crispy rice in the hot stone bowl. Once you are done with the meal, you can spoon up some remaining water/rice. Its a little drink called rice tea. Delicious!
MoreMediocre Korean food with a couple of good quality dishes, like their seafood pancake, while some others were rather bland for me. There were only one or two servers so service was a bit slow.
MoreTucked away outside of K-Town but a solid soup spot through and through. All the soups come with a stone pot rice and the usual side dishes (potatoes, kim chi, and bean sprouts). TangMaRu hits the sweet spot for both quality and value. It was empty when we got there at noon on the weekend but slowly filled up towards 1.
MoreGave them 3.5 star.Pork bone soup tasted good. Only 2 items of side dishes. Not worth for the Mix-rice.
MoreThey are my number one go to pork bone soup place. Soup is one of the best in the area. Their kimchi is super good too👏🏻👏🏻 The service is friendly but it could be slow for peak hours.
MoreI was there a few years ago when they opened and tried their Korean cold noodle (neng-myeunand it was just a perfect. When you looked at the dish you can tell they put good effort and they love to cook. I think last year original owner sold the place and the second owner took over this place.Menu stayed the same but seemed like recipe changed over time. Sadly portion and price has changed as well. Personally I eat a lot when it comes to noodle and this noodle costs somewhere around $11-12. I find portion got smaller and if I want to eat somewhat satisfying amount, now I have to order extra noodle which costs additional $6 which used to be the half price. Used to attract a lot of local koreans but after it expanded to other people, looks like they are trying to maximize their profit.I will probably go there for their cold noodle for its convenient location, not for the price :(
MoreI crave Korean pork bone soup when it’s cold and rainy outside! TangMaRu is our go to spot! The pork bone soup is delicious and spicy. The service at times can be slow but to us it’s all about the food!
MoreGreat authentic Korean food! I couldnt believe there is such a great Korean restaurant at this rural location :D Port Moody! We ordered seafood tofu soup with rice and spicy pork bone soup with rice as well as a seafood pancake. The seafood pancake was very crispy outside and soft inside. The best was the good flavour and it was not too greasy!! The seafood tofu soup was full of ingredients and the rice was cooked in a stone pot! The rice was very soft and chewy and some rice sticking on the stone pot was very crispy. The spicy pork bone soup was not super spicy which was good! The soup base was the hard part to make at home, so it was the best that we could eat here.We loved the food here and we wish we could come here to eat every day! Haha... the customer service was excellent! Servers were Korean ladies who were super polite and friendly. The only thing I didnt like was parking on a steep slope next to the complex. You might be able to find street parking on St. Johns street. It will be great if they have their parking stalls or a parking lot.
MoreDelicious food authentic Korean food. Received great meat to soup ratio for the pork bone soup.
