Before we did the tour, we honestly thought this couldve been something out of our comfort zone, as none of us 3 has ever been this close to the nature. We had imagined we would miss the internet and other modern comforts. But oh...we were completely wrong! The klotok boat is basic, but is very comfortable and kept very clean by our amazing crew. Our crew consists of: Eko (a very fun, flexible, helpful and capable guide. He speaks both Indonesian and English ), Ibu Nur (a gentle cook who spoiled us with delicious meals and snacks), Pak Adi (capable and amazing captain), Pak Jen (the hardworking assistant who never stops working to make things run smoothly on the boat). The crew made this tour an absolute success with all their hard work taking care of us at all times and catering to our wishes. What do you get on a klotok boat:1. Good food: 3 main meals/day, with fresh ingredients and good varieties, and in more than enough quantities. We also appreciate it a lot that they always provided us with afternoon snacks (fried bananas, sweet cold tea,....after a long day activity. There were also some big gallons of mineral drinking water we could use all the time. They also observe your dietary wishes.2. Western toilet and shower: in spite of lack of hot water, the shower works really well, and there was enough clean water for our daily showers. The bathroom is very basic, but is kept very clean. Bring your own toiletries though. However they provide enough toilet paper rolls.3. Sofa bed : our beds were basically a pile of sofa cushions used as matrasses at night, under a mosquito net. Not the best matrasses, but certainly good enough in the context. They also provide a blanket and pillow.4. No airconditioning, but lots of fresh natural breeze and jungle noises: trust us, youd sleep very well with these!5. No signal for your mobile: not for a call, nor for the internet! We were worried about this, but we were proven very wrong. Our activities were such fun, that we didnt miss the external world at all. It was in fact very relaxing to be disconnected.6. Possibility to charge your phones: to prevent phone damage due to some generator peaks, youd better charge the power bank instead of directly charging the phone.7. Lots of possibilities to see wildlife in the jungle: we were blessed by many possibilities to see various wildlife. Why were happy weve chosen the 4D/3N Local Guide Orangutan Tour:1. Smooth and efficient communication: we booked the tour initially in 2020, but due to the pandemics, we had to re-schedule it. The Local Guide was always very efficient, flexible and honest in their handling of this rescheduling. Our contact persons (Sal and Nur Haryantowere always available to handle the administration and answer our questions per e-mails or Whatsapp messages.2. Capable caring honest crew: lets be honest, if youre in the jungle of Kalimantan, far from the outside world, youd want to be surrounded by good people you can trust completely to take care of your needs and safety. Well, the crew we had, fulfilled this outstandingly! They were also very flexible about the itineraries: they adapted everything, where possible of course.3. Smooth handling of administration: once youve made your booking, youll get clear instructions about the (down)payment (via paypal, and then on site at arrival), local contact person,....4. Cost is all included: the tour payment you pay is all included. No other (hiddencost. Whether you leave some tip for the crew, is up to your decision.5. If you can, please book at least the 4D/3N tour, as 2 full days are very comfortable to be able to arrange the activities. Dont forget to calculate the possibility of bad weather, because youre gonna be in a rainforest!

A nice tour on a boat close to nature, beware that you do sleep out on deck (not for everyone). Amazing encounter with orang outangs, the fireflies is just magical and the food on the boat is delicious. If you are not into close contact with nature, this is not for you.

For us it was all about the Orangutans and Tanjung Puting really delivered! We flew from Jakarta to Borneo, rented a boat for three days and two nights to take us up river to Camp Leaky. The boat was comfortable, the crew was very friendly and helpful. The meals, fresh fruit and snacks provided were plentiful. The journey up river and back was very peaceful and relaxing. Our boat was equipped with basic shower and plumbing for our personal use.We slept on deck on a comfy mattress under a mosquito net and enjoyed the sounds of the jungle at night. The jungle walks were pretty easy to do, the bugs not too bad considering where you are but make sure to bring insect repellent. The highlight, of course, was the orangutans. We were amazed and delighted by these wonderful, innocent creatures. One large, powerful male came crashing through the trees from out of nowhere, landed right behind us then casually walked past us, within 1 meter of my wife, ignoring us completely, went to feed. What a thrill!Be prepared for a shock though. As we flew in to and back out of Borneo we were blown away by the huge areas of deforestation and palm oil plantations which appeared to be very close to the park.

This location will appeal to people who truly enjoy wildlife in the wild. No it is NOT fancy; this location is for the animals and people who want to see what the rainforest on the island of Borneo looked like many decades ago. There are not food stands, so I did not rate this a 5. This isnt a zoo and thank heavens it isnt a circus. The trip to get here will most likely be arduous. If you expect every place in the world to be "like at home" or you only like 5 star American standards, dont go. Leave this for those of us who like the feeling of being in the wilderness and marvel at seeing wild orangutans in the trees.

Beautiful national park and orangutan sanctuary. Took a 3-day/2-night boat trip with Orangutan Applause (Excellent Boat & People!!!up the river to Camp Leakey with stops at orangutan feeding stations each day. Easily saw 15+ orangutans each day in the sanctuary (and a few outside protected areasplus proboscis monkeys lining the trees near the river at certain times/places. Crocodiles, kingfishers, and plenty of other wildlife is easy to find once you get used to looking.

What an amazing experience I got here! I stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights, and managed to see a lot of things that happened in the jungle. The trip from sekonyer river to the jungle was a little bit challenging since the speed boat I rode on was having a little problem. It stopped for a couple times in the middle of the river, but the tour guide managed to fix it so we continued our trip without having a trouble anymore. The cottage I went to stay was really comfortable too! I got to put a hammock between trees in front of the house and sometimes when I was chilling on the hammock, some of the orangutans who live in the forest came to the cottage and asked for a food. It was a really great experience to see orangutans really close and got to feed them closely! And what I gained after I went to Tanjung Puting National Park is that not only I got to see orangutans, but I got to see another wild animal too such owa-owa, honey bears, monkeys, and wild boars.

I took 1 day trip using a speed boat for 5 people. At first the speed boat was so terrible because it stop for a couple times in the middle of the river and it made my team had to hitchhike another boat. but the nature is really something. idk maybe because i love the nature so I could forgive and forget the terrible things with the boat. actually the government need to manage and fix their tourism

Excellent experience. Just rent a 2 nights trip to there in a long boat with a captain guide cooker and crew. Although the boat is a bit like camping (small toilets, cold shower with generator etc...it is still an experience to make. You will see orang outan, bear pig, lots of different monkeys. Worth the price

Be warned its hot! And the insects are huge.Still so worth it to see orangutans, monkeys and gibbons up close. We met a few tourists complaining about the walking, the heat and the waiting around. Its the jungle in Borneo! Its not going to be the ideal holiday for everyone but if you like wildlife and can just accept a few days of discomfort, go.

A great place to see the Orangutans and support the preservation of a little but of Borneos remaining pristine rainforest. The board are comfortable and the scenery is spectacular as you watch birds monkeys and butterflies plaing in the jungle as you. Cruise by. Sleeping near the trees full of fireflies is a spectacular experience as well.

Fantastic! Natural wildlife, you just take a flight to Iskandar airport of Pangkal bun, go to river Port near Kumai port to take a boat to Taman National Tanjung Puting. Its take 1 hour using speedboat or 3 hours using ordinary boat. You will follow natural river and can see crocodiles, birds and monkeys on the forest. There some orang utans at feeding point during the feeding time start at 1.00 PM. Beware if you bring your kids or some small bag, the devil monkey could steal.

Really nice experience! Visiting the park with a klotok driven by local people was really awesome. And the rainforest was just sublime!! Do not hesitate to come here during your journey to Indonesia.Just dont forget to protect yourself from the mosquitos, specially during the night and when walking through the rainforest. Also, ask your klotok driver to sleep at a fireflight spot on your way back to Kumai. Its a very beatiful experience.

After doing extensive research on Tanjung Puting National Park I found that you must enter the park with a tour guide. You will have to choose a guide company and they will purchase all permits needed for you to enter the park. Thank God for our guide (Deny), we wouldnt have been able to have the experience we did without his knowledge. We booked a 3 day 2 night boat tour through Tanjung Puting National Park through Jenie Subaru (whom we found on several traveler sites, and the Lonely Planet guide book). We flew into Jakarta International Airport and had to take a smaller plane to Pangkalan Bun where we took a taxi to Kumai to get out our boat to enter Tanjung Puting National Park.Once our tour of Tanjung Puting started our guide Deny immediately started pointing out wildlife along the river also educating us on how Palm Oil and illegal logging is continuing to destroy Tanjung National Park, but that a group called The Orangutan Green team was buying land in efforts to preserve the Park and Wildlife living there. Before reaching the first of the three orangutan feeding stations set up by Tanjung Puting National Park we saw Proboscis monkeys (only found in Borneo), Macaques, Silver Langer,  and several birds that I cannot recall but our guide was more than knowledgeable about.Upon arriving at the first feeding station I was excited to see orangutans for the first time. The second feeding station was closer than the first aid more orangutans showed up to the feeding site. Deny (our guidebrought us to see the inner forest and orangutans in their natural environment after each feeding site. Camp leaky was the last station and by far my favorite. The hike after the feeding station at Camping Leeky was the most beautiful. We saw the beautiful nature of the forest, plants (which Deny pointed out, named, and knew backgrounds about, beautiful moss, snakes, snake holes, and also even got to see some orangutans in their natural environment just hanging out in trees doing normal orangutan stuff which is precisely what we wanted to see. I couldnt have been happier. We skipped any night hiking to see the nocturnal wildlife in the park because honestly I was far too exhausting from the day adventures but next time Ill go!We slept on a mattress on the top of the boat under a provided mosquito net! Listening to the sounds of the wildlife before falling asleep was amazing and being woken up by a Rhinoceros Hornbill flying over head and opening my eyes to see a troop of Proboscis monkeys in the trees above was pretty epic. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made us feel safe. There were also several park workers at every feeding station. All and all the Park is amazing and Id definitely recommend seeing this before you no longer have the ability to. Id also recommend booking your tour of Tanjung National Park through Jenie Subaru and requesting Deny as your guide simply because he made our trip perfect.
